The EPC light was probably a break in related thing, It didn't look like it had a ton of miles so it'll prevent you from stressing the engine while in the break in period. Great videos man, keep up the good work
I disagree. This engine I feel is fine below 60 mph. On the highway it gets up to 80 ok and at 80mph, who are you passing anyway? It handles great on back roads. You just have to get used to it and drive it the way it wants to be driven. I just test drove it and if I hated it I was going to buy a Civic with the CVT because there are no more manuals out there and there will be none made next year. I bought the Golf. I hate CVT transmissions. They rob hp. The Civic with 180hp and CVT is no faster than this 147 hp with the manual and much less fun. Something is wrong with world when nobody wants a stick.
I have a 2015 mk7. 1.8t with 6 speed auto. 91k. No major issues. Replaced tires and battery. Original brakes. Had all recommend maintenance done by VW. Fun little car. Plan to keep it another 2 years.
Nice video! I wish this car still had the 1.8. That engine was way more willing to rev and it didn’t have the rev-hang this one has. It also didn’t sound strained like this one at high rpms. But otherwise, I love the MK7 Golf!! It rides better than a lot of luxury cars!
@@DailyMotor The Golf with the 1.8L and manual transmission was like 6.8 secs 0-60 mph. With the 1.4L it is like 8 secs with the manual and 7.7 secs with the 8 speed auto. Kind of a step backwards with only slightly better mpg's.
The "Parcel Shelf" is the reason for two positions of the floor. You put the parcel just above the spare tire then put the floor back in the higher position.
I bought a 2019 Golf S manual, only 5500K miles...it was cheap and came with a huge warranty but after a few weeks I'm considering selling it, the rev hang and lack of power on freeway is no fun. I should've waited a little longer and saved for a GTI, tough lesson!!
I’m with you on the rev-hang. I hate it. My cobalt does the same thing and it’s extremely annoying. This is going in the cons section of my vehicle comparisons.
They made 2nd gear way too tall in this car, I don't know why in a 6 speed they couldn't have done more closely spaced gears for 1-4 and then left 5-6 as tall overdrives given the power these things make. You don't need 2nd to go to 73mph when you're making less than 150hp.
Is that a bad thing? I get companies doing it so second can do 60 (for performance figures) and yes, 73 is a bit excessive but what negatives come along with it? My 2010 golf 1.4 TSI will do about 60-65 in 2nd and close to 90 in third and I thought that was about standard for a 122bhp car.
@@tommolewis3105 It kills acceleration. I don't mind having a tall 5th or 6th gear for cruising on the expressway, but where I live the majority of my driving is between 20-50mph. The engine doesn't make much power until you're already going 40 so it feels like you're lugging it when you want to take off quickly. I feel like low power cars should have really closely spaced gears 1-4 or 5 for acceleration and high 5th and 6th or only 6th gear.
@@mcnoze1 Actually now you mention it my 2nd feels no quicker than my 3rd gear if I am flooring it. given my car isn't that powerful (122bph) as its my first but yeah second definitely doesn't feel as quick as I would expect. But yeah I recon companies do it to get their 0-60 times as impressive as they can as it skips a gear change into third.

Its so new. Only 8 years? I still have my 92 GTI. And a 2015 XB, now. I am sure I will keep it 20 years or so...
Bought this one and highly recommend it.
Chris just did a c8 last night I freaked! I love the car! Being blind, I love the sound that v8 makes more than anything!
An awesome and practical car! VW ❤️

Outstanding review. Any rattles or squeaks?
2018,no rattles,squeaks,or problems.
The Golf is a nice car. I would like to buy one.
I meant the cargo cover as you call it.
Is it turboed???
Yes
I sware you remind me of my boss! This is funny!
Nice review but it's not a 1.8 it's a 1.4.
*face palm* You're totally right, thank you!
Manual hand break!? In Europe is only electric

Is the 2021 made in Mexico ?
Yup, the german built ones are wayyy better but they only get those in europe
Some folks are snatching base ones new for under 13k. Super Tempting.
I am actually glad I bought a 15 Scion XB with manual. 13 thousand bucks. 34k miles. Lasts forever. Roomy. Made in Japan.
13k seems unlikely, you'd have to really try to get it that low
@@joespittle1 its been happening, with base stick shifts. 14k OTD.
@@djkenny1202 I'll have to give my local dealer a call, if the TSI is that cheap I wonder what they'll let a GTI go for

Such an insult vw to compare a centra to the golf. Show some respect!
New Sentra is really good, and VW isn't even bringing the MK8 Golf to the States. For all I'm concerned, they don't respect this market.
Will you take 5 dollars for this car? That rev hang is super annoying!
eres muy malo manejando cambio manual!!
