    Brand new compact pro purchased in 2021. Please watch till the end as I go over issues I have experienced owning this mower. This isn’t a loaner model to do a review, this is a mower I purchased with my own money. Gravely compact pro 34 inch zero turn lawn mower

    Bought mine used from marketplace, needed all the pulleys replaced because they were rusted to death, new motor and a belt... Knocked out two jobs before the old pulley sheared off. Already replaced it, already made half my money back within a week... Best investment ever. Living proof is M&D Lawn care youtube channel. They use this same thing and been using it forever. These are strong stout mowers and I love mine. Paid $3k for it

    I’ve had mine for 197 hours, not one issue. I’ve hit the deck hard mowing tall grass on stumps, not issue. I think you had a defective one? It’s my second compact and they’ve been a great asset for my business.

    I can't tell but it looks like instead of moving the bracket that you could adjust the rod that is fastened to the bracket.

    I've had the same problems with mine that's 2 years old, all in the first month....and then a few more you didn't mention. First, the real solution to the deck position being too far back is putting shorter rods in front where you said your dealer was going to have to bend forward. Don't bend or cut anything! Gravely will send your dealer shorter rods which positions the deck farther forward. On the deck getting stuck in the up position, there's a black metal U bracket inside that assembly that pivots to lock the deck in place, and it gets jammed underneath the red piece it's attached to sometimes. Take a screwdriver from the front, underneath the whole assembly and hammer that black U bracket backward to get it unjammed. My fuel gauges don't work so be prepared for that. Mine has never started on its own, but I always hear an electronic "beep" of some kind and I can't figure out where it comes from. It makes the sound just once in a while. Mine has 500 hours on it but just the other day the engine would surge at low idle, but was fine at high idle. At some point that day it stopped that symptom and I haven't been able to duplicate it since. I had to get my throttle assembly replaced because the lever wouldn't stay at full throttle. My starter bendix gear stopped retracting immediately a couple weeks ago and would grind on the engine for a second after starting. Solved that by spraying it down with wd40 followed by a good soaking of silicon spray. Still grinds on occasion but that helped dramatically. I've had the back upper-left red frame piece break 3 times now in exactly the same place just from regular vibration.....it's the piece with the fuses/relay attached to it. No doubt yours will do the same if it hasn't already. I've had a bunch of other little issues I'm just not remembering but those are the main issues. The good news is after 500hrs, besides the intermittent issues I mentioned, it still runs like new. I've had new belts on my shelf since the 200hr mark but still after 500hrs the belts look almost new. I have no idea how. I do take very good care of my mowers though, they get blown off everyday and blown out with a compressor every weekend......all the nooks and crannies along with the air filter. I do early oil changes because of the dust here, this is the desert:-) So the kawasaki engine and hydro-gear transmissions are great, and it honestly cuts great, but they didn't do enough testing on their design before putting it out there.

    Aren’t those a $6,000 mower? The prices for ZTR’s has climbed so much in 20 years.
    One of my biggest mistakes was messing up my credit in 1994/1995 making it impossible to get a loan for a new zero turn. I had a Toro 117 Groundsmaster with a 52” deck which worked fairly well. I wasn’t making much with my lawn service because I didn’t have my heart into it as a business, I just liked mowing grass and tinkering with mowers. I didn’t have any spare time as I delivered pizza in the evening so I quit the lawn service years ago.

      I would easily say 7000 after tax, interest on the loan, not to mention you have to do a oil change the first 25 hours and a hydro service at 100 hours, all that adds up, having credit is real important i would rather have good credit than a lot of money, running any type of business is a huge commitment, starting is easy it’s just the maintaining and building your customer base is the hard part, and the downtime around winter gets distracting from the goals your trying to achieve since it’s a lot harder to make money at that time, I had a couple of jobs before this and even worked in a office for a while, I just prefer to make my own schedule and run a business as hard as it gets sometimes I think it’s still worth it.

    That really sucks man. I was literly about to go buy one of these. I'm glad i didn't. I own a pro series 48 thought about switching to this model. I'm not going to after watching several different reveiw videos. Plus the hill disadvantage it has not to mention the handles actuly stick out further than the deck. So you will hit the fence with the handles. I don't like it. Man i hate that your having these issues. These things are very expensive

    • @LawnJohnSilver
      @LawnJohnSilver  4 месяца назад

      I think there was one more thing that happened after this video but that was it after that, haven’t had any crazy issues since, they should at least put these things through some sort of indoor test before sending these out and just run back the hours themselves at the factory, as I’m sure you know what a down mower can do to your schedule

      @@LawnJohnSilver i can not have a down mower lol. That's why i chose gravely. I have not had one issue with my pro series 48. I also owned a zthd 44 and that thing was a beast. I ran it for 3 seasons. Hard running in the summer 5 days a week and ran it hard nov-jan mulching leaves. 3 years!!! Never had a problem. I sold it 2 yrs augo and the fella i sold it to is still using it on his 10 acre home. I really think the newer ones are not built like the old one. Each year they try to change things. I mean if it ain't broke, don't fix it!! If you are ever looking for a cheaper one check out the ztd hd model. It has 85% of the pro series parts on it. Kawasaki engine as well. Only different is the air filter box and i think the transmission. But it's several thousands dollars cheaper and i beat it to the ground and it held up great
