Thank you for this video. I want to change the shift linkage on my bike and my husband thinks I should just take have the mechanic do it. Now I know I can do it myself. I didn’t think it was that complicated!
To adjust the shifter linkage, you simply loosen the small lock nuts on each end of the linkage rod and rotate the the linkage and it raises or lowers your shifter pedal, It works like a tie rod. You don't have to take the shifter off the shaft and move it another slot.
The year is 2024 now and I went to Amazon as well and it looks just like a Harley shift linkage,I’m gettin ready for a trip down to Myrtle Beach the second week of May for Spring Bike Week and all the videos I’ve seen about the oritlinkage had me concerned,it looks great and it shifts well too, safe rides to everyone 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Good vid. I need to replace my shifter linkage...I never liked that stock one on my Road Glide. Good move on the axle nut covers. 7/5/21 UPDATE: I just installed a similar shift linkage on my 2013 road Glide. One thing different is that on models with a straight transmission shift arm (your's is J-shaped,) you must install the front of the shift linkage on the OUTSIDE of the front shift arm. If installed on the inside the bolt will impact your cylinder. My stock arm was also installed on the outside unlike your's.
I Like the shift linkage upgrade. Will definitely get one of them from your Amazon link. Good price. Thanks. We had a stock one break on a trip. A tip is use some electrical tape to hold the joint together until you can get somewhere to replace.
I know this an older video, just wanted to say when they chrome something they use either brass or copper under the chrome because it bonds to most metals better than the chrome so it gets used as a sort of primer so the chrome sticks. Just some random info for ya lol.
I just saw your video on Amazon parts. I see that the shifter linkage chrome is peeling; however is it still working well? I have yet to put mine on. Wisconsin weather not cooperating. BTW if you still like it and it works well you could have it bead blasted and rechromed or powder coated.
Cool video, but on my Heritage that nut on back of shifter is kind of grazing the housing, idk why but I don’t think it’s good that it’s that close, I have to see why it’s happening.
Sandy maybe you can make you a little harley-davidson stencil like on the front of the Arlen Ness air sucker and spray paint the center of the new linkage red like you did the tops of the calipers
Sandy, I got hooked on your channel via John's Cyclefantix channel.....GOt to say (don't tell John, I've watched more of your vids than his!!!) Anyway...I liked this video so I just ordered that shifter linkage thanks to your great review of it. Great videos you've got here....the one of the holy city was very informative, thanks for posting it. Silly Question, how did you & John cross paths? Viewers wanna know. Be well and keep up the vids my friend.
Those axel nut covers gotta go. I got similar ones in a contrast cut black / aluminum. Looks much better. Everything else looks rally good. Glad I got to see the transformation so far, from the day you got the bike.
Looking good brother! But now you have to get the chrome slotted billet shift lever. I purchased my set from harley.same one much cheaper after market. This will make you upgrade the shift peg too 🙂
@@HOLYSHIFT That's right lol. If you could only see the stack of receipts I spent on my electraglide ultra classic. Keep it up. Bike is looking damn good.
@@HOLYSHIFT ok thanks for the reply. I probably need to replace it. I took another look and the rattling is coming from the extra play in the bearing that u mentioned in your video. Nothing is loose otherwise. Great video!🤙🏽

As you’ve seen - easy.
The wink when you said ‘I’m going to torque it down to specks of course” was hilarious!
The black air filter badge cover looks much better!!
I like it better too !
I love watching you and John interact. Just got done watching John’s video.
It’s like a soap opera one episode after the other. LOL.
I love that you find affordable ways to do your upgrades!

Very true! But the initial setup needs to be positioned so you have options to move the linkage to both sides so you can it either up or down.

Good call on the air cleaner insert
Yeah I agree
Liked them so much I just ordered them. You are correct, looks as good as Harley but cost much less!
I have bought several things for my 2015 Fatboy from Amazon and eBay. Because' I'm not paying the price for parts just because it's from Harley.
Had an 01 Dyna this happened to, An 8 in boot laces will get you home.
Shifter linkage and air filter cover are cool picks looks great!👊🇺🇸😎
I have done both those upgrades but I did HD ones because I kept the look I wanted.
Really nice!! I got one on eBay for 130.00 less than the original Harley one that pitted really bad on my CVO!!
They are called heim joints… for future reference.
Harley does make good chrome that doesn’t pit or rust like aftermarket. The word is “Ball Joints”. 😎
heim joint

Electrical tape is the solution for almost everything in cases of emergency 👍🏻 😆 LOL 👍🏻

Didn’t know - thanks 🙏🏻
Sandy: just purchased the same shifter linkage only in gloss black. Will put on when weather warms up. BTW how is the chrome finish holding up?
Still shining! ⚡️

@@frankhabib5748 -sure it still works . Just the look of the chrome is blemished a bit - that’s all
Thanks Sandy.

Copper plating is the first plating step for chrome plating.

What if the linkage breaks behind the primary can you fix that without having to remove the primary ?
Yes

I love your channel you guys are awesome !!!!!
Nice upgrades Sandy!
Good job professor keep the videos coming plz

Good choice of not putting those cap covers on. Everything else is dope & clean Sandy 🤙🏾
Appreciate it!! yeah those covers looked bad..haha

Cover doesn’t work for me,,,,,,

You got me with the lawnmower guy. Lmao.
You gotta get a chrome primary cover now. Your can of worms has been opened, now you have to chrome everything!! Lol
Hey, does your shift linkage rattle when the motor is running? I seem to have that problem with the same aftermarket linkage.
No rattling here...Shouldn’t be...something isn’t right there.

As one of your “Blue Loc-tite” crew I applaud you!!
Nooooooooooooooooooooo. Get your money back or, like you said, bathroom/shower knobs 👻👻👻👻👻
