    This place is like heaven to me. I went there after wanting to get there for 2 years and my expectations were sky high and somehow still surpassed. What an amazing park.

    One of the most unique parks out there. There is just something so distinctive about the designs of their rides, that you really can say something is "Efteling". This is what I miss in most of the other theme parks in Europe. If I go to Europa Park for example, I see a nice park with a lot of theming, good operations and just a great overall resort. But if you were to ask me about something distinctively "Europa Park", I just wouldn't know.
    That's what I Iike about Efteling and that's also something that I think they don't get enough credit for. It's too easy to write some of their rides and designs of as weird, just because they're different and unconventional. And still, because it's so different, I can understand why some people don't really like or really connect with the park on a first visit. It doesn't really have any of the "standard" theme park tropes , like areas themed to specifically one theme.
    This is my favourite park in Europe, just because there is no other place like it, and that's a massive compliment in a world where basically everything has already been done once.
    I wish more parks had such a distinctive style and would take more risks and challenge themselves more at building rides, because it can lead to great things.

      theexplodingchicken You should visit Tripsdrill, its exactly what you're looking for. No different themed areas, just a unique theme i've never heared of another themepark!
      Anyways, Efteling is my favourite park in europa too. I just love how you could walk around for hours without even riding anything and still be amazed.
      Symbolica is absolutely beautiful! I personally prefer spiderman and transformers slightly, but symbolica just blew me away, the level of theming is outstanding!
      Loved the vlog

      The biggest difference between a normal amusement park and the Efteling are the artists. There is a word in Dutch called "knutselen". It basically means handcrafting something you love with just basic materials, there's no rush, it's done when you say it's done. Efteling has a long tradition of handcrafting and theming, much longer than designing actual attractions. They came later on in the parks history. The stories and handcrafted beauty is central to the Efteling. It's an actual Themed nature park with some attractions. The other European theme parks might have superieur rides. They will never get a glimpse of the soul of the Efteling.

      And it's a non-profit company, give the forest a good destination is there startingpoint.
      Did you know that only 10% of the Efteling is Themepark and the rest can be pull to the park in the future. They own already the area.

    • @theexplodingchicken8340
      @theexplodingchicken8340 7 лет назад +8

      I am Dutch myself and I know a lot of the history of Efteling. I think their creative designers deserve much more attention in the theme park community. While visiting other theme parks, I learned to appreciate Efteling even more, and some of the major parks in Europe, like Phantasialand, didn't live up to my expectations as an overall park experience, despite a lot of people saying it's better than Efteling ( don't get me wrong I still like Phantasialand). I even get the feeling that Efteling doesn't get enough appreciation in the Dutch theme park community. The design for Symbolica for example got bashed on forums before the ride was even finished. I still think Efteling has the greatest designers out of any park in Europe, from the 1950's all the way up to today. It all displays an insane amount of skill, quality and thinking out of the box.

    That dark ride was phenomenal. Seriously, if that was in a Disney park, I wouldn't even think twice. Those animatronics are truly something to behold, especially when Disney seems to have a monopoly on insane-looking animatronics.

    The statue of the old lady with the sticks in her hand is called "Het ballonnenvrouwtje" or in englisch "The balloonlady". Its a verry old statue dated from arround 1960. (nobody seems to know how realy old she is). On the sticks in her hands they are somethimes hanging heliumballoons to sell. If you saw her in Europapark, thats a copy of her. A gift from the Efteling. There are more parks in the world with statues from the efteling.

    Shawn you wil appreciate the efteling more when you have childeren of your own. Efteling is all about a good magical day out with the whole family young and old all together, thats whats efteling all about. For now enjoy your rides on big coasters like taron but you will not make youre young kids happy in a thrill seeker park like phantasialand and thats why disney and efteling has a huge number of visitors.

    All the big coasters are in that corner of the park, because that area is called "Ruigrijk". Basically it means that all the 'rough' (ruig) attractions are in that 'area' (rijk). When Python was build, people didn't like the idea of such a big thrilling ride in a fairytale park like the Efteling. That's why they decided to locate the coaster all the way in the furthest corner of the park, so it wouldn't have any influence on the fairytale feeling. Many people protested against Python, and the construction of Python even stopped for a while. Though, when it opened it was a hit and almost everyone's first inversion in the Netherlands was on Python 😉.

    • @QDude24
      @QDude24 7 лет назад

      It wasn't the first inversion coaster in the Netherlands, Looping star in Slagharen was first

    • @ThemeParkNetYT
      @ThemeParkNetYT 7 лет назад +1

      ''almost everyone's first inversion in the Netherlands was on Python'' I never said it was the first coaster with an inversion. For many people Python was the first time they went upside down in a coaster.

    This is the vlog I've been most looking forward to - what a gorgeous park! Symbolica is the sort of dark ride I've been dreaming about since I was little and now it's a reality, crazy!

  • @guidohilgy2505
    @guidohilgy2505 7 лет назад +11

    The Python is not only getting closed for "some" work. They are going to rebuild the whole ride. They only leave the station and lifthill in its original state. but first they are going to use the ride to test some sort of fastpass system on it. after that(2 months), the work on it will start. The expectation is that this will happen during the winterefteling. So the next time you're in the efteling you can get into a completely new python. I hope you visit on your second day "Het volk van laaf", The Bobsled and The fairy tale forest, especially the Indian water lilies. Keep in mind that that little show is from 1966. and its still beautiful. Btw I loved the vlog. :)

      After rumors for years about Python being taken down, I guess they weren't wrong haha. Glad to see Efteling doing some real maintenance to keep one of their classics going strong, instead of doing the easy thing to remove it completely.

      Kan me haast niet voorstellen dat ze het station niet gaan thematiseren. Volgens mij zullen ze de hele omgeving rondom de python aanpakken. Durf mijn hand daarvoor in het vuur steken!

      Haal maar vast wat hout en aanmaakblokjes. Ik denk het niet, maar hoop het natuurlijk wel. Al zou ik niet weten hoe. Ik hoop nog altijd op een pythonplus-achtige oplossing. misschien dat t daarom wel zo lang is uitgesteld ..

    You know, the thing about rides like de Baron 1898 is that the carts itself are so heavy, you can't really make anything more spectacular in the ride. Otherwise it wouldn't be safe anymore. But that's kind of what de Efteling stands for: the intros, the full entrance to the ride and the experience you get from it and the stories they're telling. They're trying to give you the feeling you are in that one specific world itself and I think that's beautiful.
    *Great video, love that the vlog is so long also!*

    Love this video ones again. I saw all of your videos in the Netherlands September 2018.
    Waarbeek, Slagharen, Duinrell, Toverland, Efteling, Wildlands and Walibi Holland, love all your trips!! 😘😍❤💓 Thank you so much, Shawn, Charlotte, Martin and Leah! ❤
    Fun fact for the people outside The World of the Efteling is: the actors of Ravelelijn show come from the French historical amusement park 'Puy du Fou' and are therefore French. And the memics are the dutch voices. The Efteling has been working with 'Puy du Fou' for years. Only the father in this show is Dutch, also the stage assistants, horse assistants, bird trainers are from 'Puy du Fou.' So why their mimics is clear.
    I hope to welcome you again in 2020 with Toverland and then the finished 'Fenix' dark ride section but also the 'Hotel and hopefully with a full ETF dark ride (rumour). Slagharen expansion and the Efteling with their new coaster. Then by that time Walibi Holland with the RMC. And that you are going to make a nice tour in the Netherlands again.
    Cool to know that Toverland has already won 4 prizes in the past 2 days in 2018. And earlier this year also for Troy 2018.😃 5 prizes in 1 year is really super. This can be found on: 'Toverland fansite. I link it and hopefully it can also be read in English. Toverland fansite: www.toverlandfansite.nl/persberichten/toverland-wint-european-star-award-voor-best-attractiepark Toverland fanssite Facebook: facebook.com/519346181439225/posts/2385929978114160/ I hope for you that you can translate it in engelish.😉

    Having ridden both the classic Villa Volta and Hex, I think the preshows on Hex are more time consuming than Volta. I'm with Martin on this one. Great Vlog as always

    • @theexplodingchicken8340
      @theexplodingchicken8340 7 лет назад

      With Villa Volta it depends if you like that kind of storytelling. The preshows are what make Villa Volta for me. I know the story by heart and I never get tired of listening to it. It's just so well told and there are some great voice actors in there, especially the actor that does Hugo. I really get involved in it. I think the narrator in Hex hams it up a bit and does kinda that "generic creepy and mysterious voice". The use of many voice actors in Villa Volta makes the story feel much grander, like all the villagers that get to do their saying in the first preshow. They might be long, but without the preshows Villa Volta would be a hollow shell for me, and definately not as memorable.

    Loved your vlog and I think you folk catched the "soul" of the Efteling, which is simply escaping into a fairytale-land...…...I already came here as a small child and I still love it till this day (I am 58 right now)…….It is NOT Disney, and I am happy about that, it is much more REAL fairytale, in the old European style, which I just love...……….And for the theming, don't under-estimate it, some of the most famous Dutch painters did participate, like Rien Poortvliet. Again, enjoyed your vlog and look forward to part 2, but that I will have to be tomorrow, keep on vlogging, and I clicked the thumbs up!

    Actually, I've explained this to other non-Dutchspeakers as well, 'cause it's something that's not often present in other languages: our diminitive suffixes. Highly present in the Efteling as well. Simply put: every [noun[ that ends in -je or technically -tje, -dje, -pje in standard Dutch means little [noun]. That's why a huisje is a little house. That's something we as Dutch speakers should be proud of. I love it.

    The previous woody wanst “small” it was a huge coaster. For people who like to know the name was “pegasus” after the legendary flying horse. The ride got old and uncomfy that why it was demolished. And the best part was the chopped up the coaster and sold wooden blocks of the coaster with it name branded in (i believe you can it that when you burn letters in wood). Pegasus was a fan favorite for some.

    Love the enthusiasm for my backyard park and also the vlogs are a joy to watch. I just "wasted" (in a good way) my evening and I don't regret any moment of it. And yeah the distribution of coasters depends a lot on neighbors, nature and other regulations. As well as aesthetics of course, all those coasters together makes for some great photo ops.

      Also today a serious number of changes have been implemented. Quite a few scenes have different lighting, they removed the interactive option of dancing in the final scene (it is now done automatically, probably because not a lot of people understood it) and new posters with information about the ride vehicles and the interactive dashboard have been placed in the queue line. Also the vehicles leave the rooms with mirrors forwards now and not backwards anymore (not sure why this was done).

    Just came back home from another great day at de Efteling, and I haven't had enough yet. So first thing I had to do when I came in was look up one of your vlogs of my favourite park. I'll be going back very soon, for the opening of their new fairytale the six swans. Can't wait to see that little swan ride in Sprookjesbos. And of course next year I'll be back to ride Max & Moritz.

    39:28 'Ethel' , as you call her and I think that's quite a good name for her, has been a staple in the Efteling since the early 1960's and was used at different locations to sell balloons...hence the two poles she's holding ( no...she's not practicing going on a ski holiday). The inspiration to this statue came from early 18th century women selling balloons on traveling fairs and fits in perfectly with the Anton Pieck images the older part of the park is designed in.
    And for all people from all over the world coming to this wonderful park: the talking bins are not for plastic/glass/dirt/pieces of fabric/leftover food or drinks...they are designed to take in paper and paper related trash only...hence the "Papier Hier (Paper Here) "
    1:02:45 You are on 'Gondoletta'...actually first laid out as a testing track for 'Fata Morgana' , but they just never took it down....
    I love that you love the 'Fata Morgana' soundtrack...I got it as my ringtone actually :-)
    Thank you for this awesome vlog...I love to see people from other parts of the world enjoy my second home ( especially my favorite theme park vlog channel)
    I really hope you'll be doing the fairy tail forest in your second vlog....THAAAANNNKKKSSS

      Master Knife The new rides like Baron1898 and Symbolica have English audio and text available. Enough to make you understand what is happening. Droomvlucht (dreamflight) Carnaval Festival and Fata Morgana don't have any language at all. It's just scenes to watch. All the older rides have multiple language signs explaining the story before you enter the ride. Even every fairytale in the fairytale forest has every story translated in English, French and German.

    • @silversamm
      @silversamm 7 лет назад +9

      The only ride that suffers from some english translation is the Villa volta pre-show, but even if you speak Dutch it's long and not exciting. And like Ronny said other rides dont really have voice audio in it, or they are already throwing in some english lines.

    I was back tracking some of your videos. I happened upon the video of you showing your park memorabilia. I was quite surprised you haven't been to Cedar Point yet. It's not a theme park. 32:20 the coasters are in that part of the park because of the noise, there are people living on the other side of the park. Thats also why they are not allowed to build higher then 30 meters (except for pagoda).

LOVE THAT. I love that you guys do more rides than roller coasters as well. Keep those food reviews coming and more in depth please. It's just good to know how the food is, what places to go eat if we visit those parks. And even if you don't eat at that place show them anyway so we can see what kind of variety that is there.

    Hi, I live in the village where the Efteling is located (Kaatsheuvel). In your vlog you didn't knew why all the coasters are in the back of the park. That is because the coasters make a lot of sound when the wind is blowing into the direciton of the village. Because they are in the back of the park we don't hear them. I don't mind it, but we've got old people in the village who like their quietness.

  • @JoshuaHere

    Ruigrijk (literally translated Rough Realm) is the part with all the intense coasters. This is because the park neighbours the town of Kaatsheuvel on the other side of the park and they whine a lot about noise levels and visual pollution which also clarifies why no coaster surpasses the 30m height. The only attraction to surpass this height is the observation tower Pagode because I think it's build before rules were made that restricted the park.

    • @mario64remix
      @mario64remix 7 лет назад +2

      These rules have always been there. I believe they got permission to make an exception to the height restriction rule, since Pagode isn't a stationary building.

So hopefully we get a nice themed coaster that is a lil more extreme most coasters in the parc are family friendly.A nice themed log flume/watercoaster would be great too .I agree that the coasters are all in the same place.Maybe with the expending that will change.Great vlog Efteling for life greetings from The Netherlands

      Actually, it's the stunt actors who are French. The actors from opening & closing scene, the father & the 5 'kids' (too big to believe it), are Dutch. But they have a mini-mini-mini role in the show ... :-)

    • @Wig4
      @Wig4 6 лет назад

      "... are french, so they cant speak dutch."
      > Most of the actors from abroad, do speak Dutch at a basic level, some very well. Not too difficult to understand, as they actually do their long run job in the Netherlands... (as if Duch actors who work in France, would not speak some French, "because" they are Dutch :-) ... )
      What I know from the actors team is that (apart from the actual directorship which is in the hands of the Puy du Fou show training, since 2013) they get recuited from 'anywhere'. Even in Puy du Fou, not all their actors are 'French'. Actors, especially young stunt actors, move/travel much (and learn a lot of languages on the way :-) ) By the way, even before Puy du Fou was asked to bring a new overall directorship to the show, there were already French & other nationality actors working in it. Puy du Fou, however, has kind of a good stunt actors school. It attracts young people from far !

    The Python is getting retracked next year. It also kickstarted how the Efteling is now, (and is almost called " legendary" ) so its really an icon, and that's why it has no theming. See the " Magische Klok" video`s of the Efteling about the Python for this.

    You do realize (as a reaction on your reaction on the pre-shows of Villa Volta) that pre-shows are there to give you something while you wait. You are actually still in line, during these shows, it just seems like you're already in the main attraction. And yes, if you understand Dutch, those shows are a lot more entertaining. I used to be super scared of those shows in Villa Volta, so they are actually really good, if you're Dutch

    • @ThemeParkWorldwide

    • @clairehartmann5207
      @clairehartmann5207 5 лет назад

      Theme Park Worldwide you do realize that that would mean those shows will twice as long when they do so. But maybe they could put up screens with the translation, like in the Baron. Cause let’s be honest, it is also really focused on kids, so if everything is in English aswell, it might be confusing or long for the kids. Adult tourist can read while the story is told, right?
