@@provostparkpass to asnwer your question regarding the culture thing about waving out of the train and people stare at you. Don't take it personally. The Dutch are not used to this. We are known to be (sometimes very) direct and be really down to earth. So we tend to be more closed to ourselves or less spontanious. The best way to describe it is by a famous Dutch saying "Just act normal, than you'll act crazy enough" The people who stare at you while you were waving, they just thought to themselves "Who's that? I don't know him, so why is he waving at me? What did I do?".
Anton Pieck designed the Efteling. He was an artist and made illustrations in a Dickins style. You can still buy artwork on calendars and postcards from his hand. That same style he used in the Efteling. Like many Dutch people, I have happy childhood memories from the Efteling.❣️
He did only part of it.. the rest is done by other designers and artists (e.g. Ton van de Ven, Sander de Bruijn), but in the same style as Anton used to do.
Dont know why i clicked on this video, as a dutchie i apparantly like watching foreingers enjoy my country. But after hearing what a wonderfull person you are i just had to leave a comment. Thanks for visiting and i hope you guys will return some day !!
As a Dutchman, it always surprises me how well Efteling is received in the world. Not that I find Efteling bad, it is great, but I never realized how great.
There were no cheap screen effects as at Universal Orlando. Eftling has so many trees which are allowed to grow tall and cast shade. Children seem to walk in this immense park. More and more kids in Orlando demand to be in huge strollers. very sad and embarrassing.
@@keouineThe Efteling is literally built in a forrest. The Efteling still owns an enormous forested area around the park that can be used for future extensions.
Dutch kids grow up with it, so we take it for granted. But in terms of style and dressing, there's absolutely nothing that comes close. No other theme park has so much theme and so much park. They may have more, bigger and faster roller coasters, but they will never be de Efteling.
Eating pancakes with your hands is perfectly acceptable in The Netherlands. When we make them at home we roll them up kinda like a burrito and either cut them in smaller rolls or just pick it up! So don't worry about that :)
ha yeah honestly, i think lot of people use cutlery mainly not to get your hands greasy or sticky from stroop or sugar or so :p If your not literally stuffing your face in some weird way just take bites, i doubt anyone would be bothered :) If i make them at home and take them, one hundred percent eat them by hand haha
@@Sinjinator Allowed? Of course. People are just not used to it and have to process what you're expecting of them. By the time they realize you're just waving and greeting people for fun, the train has passed and they lost the moment.
Yeah, in the Netherlands eating with hands is pretty normal with many types of foods. For example if youve bought a chickendrum just eat it with your hands. Kluiven it's called. In restaurants this is usually also done, as its respectful for the restaurant owner to eat it up and to the animal that died.
Thank you for visiting our local little park. The Efteling has grown organically. In 1952 it was no more than 10 fairytales a playground and a restaurant. I wont bore you with the full history of how the Efteling became the Efteling. The Efteling list somewhere between 30 and 35 attractions and places to see next to all the small thing that are not listed and needs to be discovered by the visitor. They have one major rule for planning what the do and where. Only 11% may be build up. 89% needs to return to nature. In essence the Efteling is a nature park. That is the main reason for so much nature and small wildlife in the park. The Efteling has no shareholders and does not need to produce profit. Most of what the make goes back into the park. They also do not use outside money to grow. The Efteling is huge. It hold a lot more ground then the park itself. At the moment there are plans to double the size of the Efteling Park. They do already have permission to expand the park to the east and west.
So weird to see there are so many rollercoasters now. I remember going there and there was only 1. I was more into the attractions anyway, don't care about rollercoasters at all.
Really? I thought they were struggling with the permissions. Because of the people who live around the park are complaining alot. (Zeikstralen, vind ik het. Ga dan niet naast een pret park wonen, jeetje...)
@@Kimo0tJJ The fences around the eastside of the park have allready been moved, so there is actually progress. The biggest problem with permissions that the Efteling faces is;....that it isn't allowed to grow in number of visitors; which is a max of 5000000 visitors a year. If they go above that, the Efteling needs to pay a fine for each visitor above that ammount. This is due to European laws regarding the enviroment.
@@halomaster116 Yes, I know this. And they have been trying to get permission to up that number to 6 mil. but because of the people living around the Efteling, it's hard to get that permission.
Every Dutch person of 70 years old and younger has been to the Efteling multiple times. I remember school trips where you were so happy you were going to the Efteling, first only the old fairytale forest and I the 80's they built the Python, the first real roller coaster in the Netherlands by Vekoma tja became a really good Rollercoaster builder worldwide. Happy memories I now share with my kids now that I'm 50.
@@BartKrap That´s not true! The Python was the first coaster with 4 inversions in Europe, but steel coasters were being built in Italy and Germany since the mid-1960`s.
This video made me so happy! I have so many happy Efteling memories: pretty sure I´ve gone every year for the past 40 years - except in 2020. Watching someone else enjoy it for the first time actually made me tear up a little.
I am not Dutch but i moved to NL in my 30ties... when I saw Efteling I cried like a little girl from so many emotions and the beauty of that place.. i love fantasy and magic and stories.. this was a feeling I am home..
Efteling is my second most favorite theme park in the world after Disneyland. It’s just an absolute treasure, standing toe to toe with Disneyland for pure charm and emotional power. It is also so heartwarming how much the Dutch love Efteling and know that it is a jewel to show off. A huge piece of my heart belongs to Efteling after my visit from the United States last summer.
If it were in the US, it would be trashed by now. Not to mention the horrible people in the US at these parks. I noticed how wonderfully everyone was dressed and wonderful manners. Not in US
@@Wisdom-Nuggets-Tid-Bits I dunno, Disney parks are still very clean and hold up well. Sure, Americans in general can be kinda weird in this time in their history... I've been to Disney parks in the USA many times, never notice people "dressed bad" . Maybe not the best focus?
@@6688ragnar "..in general can be kinda (kind of) weird"?? Americans for the very most part are very selfish and wasteful and trash places they go! Disney parks look fairly clean because there are people working there CONSTANTLY picking up the trash people drop. What is "dunno"? It IS the focus because when I have gone to Europe, people dress much better than Americans. Just look at Americans in these parks - they look like they just crawled out of bed!
Having been to both each have their pro's and con's... But i prefer the more classic fairytale oriented thempark over the Disney one. Disney is a bit too much after visitors money imho. But tbh the Efteling is much much older then Disney (it's 72 years old) so we had generations going there. And the Efteling is besides theme park also a nature reserve.
My grandparents came from the Netherlands to Utah after the war. We would always roll our Dutch pancakes also put chocolade hagelslag (usually goes on toast). My favorite Dutch treat is oliebollen, soooo good!
For the Dutch the Efteling runs through our veins. Many of us went there as a toddler, as a kid, as a teen, in our twenties, as a parent and as a grandparent and all those age stages play their part every time we revisit. And even when we reach the age where only rollercoasters count, we still treasure and won’t forget to pay a visit to Fairytale Forest, listening to the musical fly agarics playing Bach like when we were 3.
I’m from the Netherlands and I can honestly say; Efteling is the most beautiful, cohesive, magical park I’ve ever been to. The details, the background music everywhere, the food (which isn’t anything spectacular; but very typical Dutch)… it all just makes sense together. As a Dutchie; I’m VERY proud of having de Efteling here! And all the fairytales in de Efteling; we actually grew up on in The Netherlands. Guess that’s why we’re all a bit stern; we’ve learned from a very young age that fairytales don’t always have a happy ending!!!!
Don't forget that the American fairy tales are based on ancient European ones. Disney however took off the 'sharp' parts. We have visited a lot of parts in the US, 15, European and Japan but we think Efteling is the cosiest and nicest. And even when you count all the rides it's also one of the larger ones especially when you compare with Paris. Because you have Disney but you have to pay for the MGM's. (same in USA)
The park actually started a very long time ago as a nature and sports park to help improve the health of the workers in the area. Then in the 50's it added the fairytale forest and the Efteling was born. Its still run by a foundation, so its not corporately owned and it has in its articles of association that 70% or something of the total area has to be reserved for nature to keep the park in its original intended state. This foundation also closely guards the overall feel and theming of the park. So you wont find large advertisements or commercial IP's and that sort of things. Also, because of this, its essentially a non-profit operation and all the money they make is directly invested back in to the park.
@@qifrey2472 sure kids, i would not let my kids eat with their hands. But thats not the point. She claims the netherlands eat it with their hands like its common. No we dont do that.
Due to Holle Bolle Gijs, the sucking, talking trash bin. For some reason it just works. Nobody litters because everyone sticks their trash in their pockets to feed the speaking bins when they come across them. And on the rare occasion some one doesn't care about Gijs and drops a piece of paper, some kid will snatch it up so they can feed it to Gijs. I know because I was that 8 year old kid who ran to pick up a piece of paper :)
The park is usually clean, but there's still a problem with cleanliness sometimes. When the weather is bad people tend to eat at the indoor restaurants and they get overcrowded really quickly which sometimes leads to circumstances where trash is just everywhere. It is still the Netherlands, not Japan.
@@aurawilming6047 Also: Basically in most of the areas there is ALWAYS a trashbin in sightline (slightly covert but still noticeable, including in the queues). So they really require you to be super extra lazy to even consider littering. The talking ones are great, but they are in a significant minority.
31:30 _"Enchanted castle "Symbolica"_ For The Efteling, I filmed the making off, of this trackless ride. I remember the first shooting day, where they removed the first stones from the Efteling's central square. At that time it was all a big secret. I had to go there almost every week, for over a year. Sometimes I had to be there at 5 am, to film the unloading of trucks. But it was defiantly no punishment. For lunch I usually went to that pancake restaurant you visited. But I asked them to slow down their pancake machine a bit… I just like them a bit more cooked. And sometimes they did. The Efteling is amazing. It has been a long time ago, since my last (work related) visit. But their sense of theming still amazes me.
Efteling is on my bucket list of theme parks. I was diagnosed with cancer at 20 years young just a few years ago, really made me realize how short life is, so once I (thankfully) started to recover from treatment I started booking travel plans. first time out of the country for me since 2018 will be this september where I plan to go on a cruise with my family and girlfriend (whom I plan on proposing to while on the ship)
Waving to people is definitely a cultural difference. Dutch are just really direct. They wave to you if they want to and if they are in the same "zone". They dont mean to be impolite. Just see it like this : Americans say when they meet people in an exagerated way "how are you doing? " Even if the dont mean it. Dutch people will not do that so easily. Only if they really want to know it. And Dutch have the saying (iĺl try to translate it to English) "Just act naturally, that is allready crazy enough" But it's not impoliteness, they are just not used to be so extravert. Most Europeans have that. Btw being Dutch, i like your videos and your enthousiasm! 😃
Yeah thats a good explanation. It probably wouldve been worse if he did it in Denmark, since doing that up here would be like drawing attention and elevating yourself above the crowd like "Oh hey you look at me, wave at me in response to me waving at you", which in the eyes of a Dane would just be considered selfish and rude.
As a fellow Dutchman I'd say that's true. I would wave back though, because it's in an amusement park and you can see people having fun, why not wave back and make it even better? But in normal life it would indeed raise a lot of questions, is this guy a bit crazy, does he think he knows me?? And yes, if you ask a Dutchman "How are you?", be prepared to hear his life story and how much is little toe is hurting lately. We hear it as a genuine question, not just politeness :)
I would say, some European kids can be a little more extrovert waving, unless the parents say different. Most don't though. Like you say, we keep to ourself more.
It depends in witch part of the Netherlands you are. I live in the north were it is more common to great strangers. I lived in The Hague for a few years and people never great back😢
awesome that you liked the pancakes. it is perfectly normal to eat a pancake with your hands. it is just a bit more difficult if there is a lot of stuff on it
As a Dutch person I love it when people that are not Dutch visit the Efteling. It’s so beautiful. Also the reason why the Efteling looks and feels so much like Disney is because Walt Disney actually came to the Efteling and took inspiration from the park. They key DigiD that Disney is sadly a lot more capitalistic and more focused on making you spend money, while the Efteling focuses a lot more on authenticity. Also all the money you spend at the park goes right back into it instead of the investors
[] ... Walt Disney actually came to the Efteling and took inspiration from the park. No! He did not. That is an urban myth. He did visit "Tivoli" in Copenhagen however.
Quick summary of the horse show's story origin: it goes back to the Eighty Years' War (Dutch Revolt against the Spanish). The 'bad guy' is wearing a Spanish 'cabasset' helmet. The Dutch defeated the Spanish by flooding the battle fields with water from the rivers (depicted at the end of the show). Results: Peace of Münster -Spain recognizes the independence of the Dutch Republic (Protestant) -Spain retains the Southern Netherlands (Catholic) -Dutch overseas expansion starting in the 17th century, which mainly affected the Portuguese colonial empire (incl Japan. Small reference in the current popular show "Shogun" ep.1)
hope you had a great time at the efteling! The efteling has got a lot of rules with the forest and that is why it so green. a fun fact, the efteling just became 72 years old. Love to see you had a great time at this amazing park (I work at Efteling as a proud employee of this beautiful park).
@@ninaw3748 most of the original theme design was done by anton pieck ,who already had an idea of a fairytale forest himself as a park, that's how it started out too he did a lot of christmas cards too, the man was great at painting an idyllic fantasy picture, he was considered kitschy and frumpy by many, but hey but when it comes to designing theme parks, you want it to be over the top, and really drive home the theme across the board, right? :D the perfect man for the job, he had the complete vision to really create his fantasy world of fairy tale nostalgia
Seems like you had a great day! Your son being greeted as the king is so wholesome, he must've been so happy :) And it's so nice to hear you had that little interaction with the lady at Polle's Kitchen! She's absolutely right, most people from here have been to Efteling at least once in their lives and every Dutch person will always be so eager to tell you about their amazing memories there. Something you might like to look into is Anton Pieck, the very first designer of the Efteling and an amazing Dutch artist. He created the first ten fairytales in the fairytaleforest, back when the park was still a nature park. The park is located in a forest and as it started as a park to just take a walk in, and from time to time mysteriously discover some fairytales, taking good care of the nature has always been very important to Efteling. They even have their own landscape architects to decide on the most fitting plants for around every ride and fairytale! Anton Piecks style is still the guideline for every attraction. His use of colour, shape and detail is one of the things that make you integrate into the stories so much, it's like the buildings have already been there for thousands of years, and you just accidentally found them. But also music, everywhere you go, precisely created for every mood, makes you feel at home in the park. When Efteling started getting bigger, with more thrilling rides, the artists who designed them even worked on the rides after working hours, just for fun. They viewed upon Efteling as a "hobby that got out of hand", as their artwork, which they wanted to cherish. And you can still feel that today. They put in more work and details than is needed to get people to the park, not out of economic reasons, but out of their love for imagination. If you read my super long comment, you might've noticed I'm a huge Efteling nerd haha As someone who wants to study arts, the park fascinates me. And I have loved to see it fascinated you all too :) (Oh and by the way, as one of the other comments stated, we Efteling nerds indeed do love to answer questions about the park, so if you have any, ask away!)
I'm so glad you liked the pancake house and read my comment! Glad to see you had such a great time as well. Hopefully we will run into you when we will be visiting Disneyland Anaheim next month!
Just got back from my own trip to the Efteling, and just wanted to indulge in some more of the joy it brings because for me this park feels almost like a second home, I've been very often and know it by heart. Even though I know all there is to do and to see, it stays fun to repeat time and time again. But what I've discovered is that watching people experience it for the first time without knowing at all what to expect is so touching to me for some reason, it's like you're feeling what I was feeling when I was 7 years old, it's wonderful! I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your trip! As a Dutch person I can confidently say that this park is indeed a huge pride to me! Thank you for visiting and sharing your experience with us!
I am soo happy that you are one of the people who immediately „get“ the special magic of the Efteling! Not everyone does. It is for me as well the most beautiful theme park in the world and in my top 3 altogether. I hope you continue to have such a wonderful time in the Efteling and in Europe!
So glad you did the pedal trains. I'm now in my fifties and have photo's of me being 1 year old on those trains. They are doing such a good job keeping some of those old treasures around, while also having to go along with the times. And doing the train 3 times is the rule! Good job!
Efteling was (Disney Legend & head of Imagineering) Marty Sklar’s favorite non-Disney park, and for good reason. It’s big, beautiful, well maintained, and has excellent dark rides. The two sections of the park where you walk thru the forest coming across various fairy tale tableaux are unlike any other theme park lands. Just an all-around wonderful park.
Thank-you @ProvostParkPass I couldn't wipe this grin off my face the whole time watching this video ! Chris you Amanda and Miles even though you didn't speak the language had the best time possible! You guys are so positive .Never a complaint from your family! I wish more people could be like you! 🥰
im a big big efteling fan and i can tell you, you were right about the forest being here first! it started as a nature park, then after they added the fairytales, starting with only 10. and they continued adding more extravagant and thrilling attractions as the park grew in popularity and also to keep up with the times and gain a bigger target audience. they are actually legally bound to keep the park 89% nature! they are not allowed to build on more than 11% of the park. and as of now it is a nature/theme/attraction park. and i think that along with the extreme amount of detail and immersion, this is what makes the park so unique and beautiful. another fun fact is that they even coordinate the nature with certain attractions and areas for a more immersive experience! pretty much every person involved in creating the magic is genuinely passionate about it all and that’s what makes it so much more enjoyable for many people :)
A trick if you get sick in Villa Volta: look at the mirrors of the... gondola I guess? The mirrors on the ends of the room stay horizontal, so you always have a reference point.
These video's are the best ones to watch when you grew up with Efteling. For us it's something we got to know from a young age and visited every year. Now we even go mostly 2 times a month. Seeing people visit this amazing park for the first time is so much fun. We had the chance to visit Efteling with people that never did a few times and thats such a special experience! Thanks for this amazing vlog of your visit to the park.
It makes me so proud as a Dutchie to see everyone love the Efteling as much as I do. For me, it is only a 45 minute drive to go there. Grow up with it, and can't wait to show it to my own children one day!❤
i love the efteling, because the focus of the rides are not the ride itself but the story surrounding it, like the myths, legends and fairytales of our country. It is difficult to understand because so many rides are dutch, we had to softly explain/translate it to my Belgium friend when we went, but it makes me so happy that you got the gist of the story told and could enjoy the ride without knowing the language, which is so cool!!
My husband and I have been watching you for at least 5 years now. I even met you quick in Disneyland. I want you to know we have been making a habit to now watch you on our TV as we are loving all of the Parks you are now doing and man, all the work you did at Disney world. That was an eye opener . I have a hard time with the humidity and get sick when I do Disneyworld. I related to your sickness when I watched you years ago when you got sick at Disneyworld. I too get yucky there.
About the train 'incident': As a North American (which I'm assuming you are, correct me if I'm wrong) you may be used to train trips feeling like a special adventure. Here in the Netherlands, trains are a very normal part of everyday life. For example, it's one of the most popular transport methods for daily cummute. That's most likely why, even in a thempark like the Efteling, we are so used to trains that it's not special enough to wave to each other.
Fantastic video! I go to Efteling every week (also for RUclips videos) and as Dutch people we are really proud of this beautiful park. It's great to see how you experience Efteling for the first time! It's a shame I had to work that day because I would have loved to meet you. Keep up the great (Disney) videos, you're amazing! ✨
Walt Disney visited the Efteling before opening the first Disney theme park and loved the vibe and the themes behind everything. He took some inspiration with him to the states.
This is why I really want to guide foreigners or non Dutch speaking people through our park. I really love seeing you guys blind reactions but i also want to know your reactions when you walk through everything knowing what it means and what it stands for. Hope you had a wonderfull stay in the Netherlands, and hope to see you soon in the park
Holle Bolle Gijs (the talking trashcans) are legendary, I always take a photo with one every time I go to the Efteling. It's been 10 years ago for me, so I really have to go again
I think trains are way more common in the Netherlands and therefor waving is not really a thing. Waving doesnt make you rude, nor does it make the Dutch rude. There is also a cultural diff. When Americans feel happy they express it, while Europeans can be happy without feeling the need to express it. Lov ya vid
It’s on my bucket list maybe when I cash out my retirement. I’m so glad you got to experience this amazing place with the family Chris. You deserve this and thanks for sharing with us in your channel.
i am from the netherlands, and that waving is not rude or something. if i am in the eftelinf train, i also do it. but sometimes people do wave back. and you had only people that were not having there best day!
Thank you for taking me along with you! Enjoyed this park with you, Amanda and Miles. Will be watching everyday you film. Thanks again. Love you guys!!!!
At 43:50, when I saw Chris at Disneyland last year, I finally had the guts to say hi and you were literally the nicest person and I'm extremelyyyyy shy. I was so happy that you took a photo with me and my fiance jokes that that was the most memorable part of the trip XP. (For context: my finace proposed on that trip in front of the Disney Christmas castle haha) It's all jokes but I was definitely on a high after meeting you XP
What an amazing park! I had no idea this park existed, the level of detail almost looks Disney level! The rides look really great too! Anyway, thanks for the shoutout, Chris! Again, i appreciate you and the work you put in! You are on the creators that inspired our channel. I hope the rest of your trip goes well! Can’t wait to see the rest of the content 😊
Comparing Disneyland or MK and Efteling is a bit hard,...Disney is more pristine,...Efteling tries to make everything look more authentic and worn out. It's both immersive in their own way. There is no better in this case imho just different approach in theming. I think you can compare Animal Kingdom the best with Efteling in the sense of authentic immersiveness. :)
Honestly there are better parks if you're seeking thrills, but efteling is unmatched when it comes to ambiance and production. I've never seen anything like it.
Just now finding this video (always like to see people react to my fav amusement park) at 7:43 it does indeed mean fire, not firework. firework is vuurwerk (might edit more in the future for more fun facts or other things) at 12:31 that bird has a worlrecord as the largest bird (statue) in the world, efteling has a bunch more worldrecords, for example the oldest still working caroussel is also in the Efteling, and the pancakehouse once made the largest stack of pancakes that could stand on it's own. at 13:16 the story of Vogel Rok (aka Bird Rok) is one of the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, a middle eastern folktale. the attractions around it (minus carnaval festival) are also themed after his stories. also at 13:48 you go into a giant snake mouth, not a bird beak (as part of the story was that Sinbad was attacked by snakes) at 18:31 the band of robbers called the goat riders (de bokkenrijders) actually excisted, they were so good at robbing places and getting away, that people made up mythical stories about them, which inspired the ride. 21:47 for the Merlin's castle ride they had to give permission to Walibi, cause the one at Efteling was the very first type of this ride, I think these days everybody can use it, but Efteling was the first. at 39:13 nobody knows what he says, he's not speaking Dutch either, just babbeling. you have 3 results you can get, a positive one (he laughs a lot), a negative one (he shakes his head and makes tssk tssk sounds) and a neutral one (where he is just babbeling to himself) 1:07:03 it is definatly not rude to wave, I would love it if more people would do it, and often people do wave back (I guess you got unlucky) people here tend to be more in their own bubble, and don't tend to wave to strangers, which is something I would love to see change, I love waving and talking to people about the Efteling (as you might notice from this long comment) really loved this video and your reactions, gonna watch the next one probably tomorrow, if you are ever interested in more fun facts about the Efteling and the specific attractions, feel free to ask, as I said, I love talking about it (so much I am making a video series about it)
I went to Efteling 50 years ago on a school field trip. I remember fearing Snow-white was dead and being relieved to see her chest go up and down, indicating that she was breathing 😅. I love your review!
Wow so cool that you're visiting the Efteling. I think litteraly every kid in NL has ever been there. I'm 38 and been there at least 10 times. Lucky for you guys you were there on a quiet day. Sometimes you're standing in line for an hour. Best park for all ages ❤
I have only gotten to the Vogel Rok part of the video, but just want to say that that was the first rollercoaster I’ve been on, at age 18. All graduating classes at my school went to De Efteling for a day, on a normal school day. We arrived early, right after the park opened, and for much of the day it was as if we had the entire park for ourselves. That day we did Vogel Rok once or twice, Joris en de Draak twice, De Vliegende Hollander once, and that was enough rollercoaster excitement for a day for me. It’s been 10 years since I last visited, but seeing this video is bringing back many memories, from going there as a young child with my parents to going there with friends as a teenager. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. :)
Regarding pancakes, my personal opinion: home you can eat with your hands, in restaurants you generally use utensils or roll it up like a burrito, at De Efteling you can be your inner child and use your hands. Growing up when my mum made pancakes I generally ate them by rolling them up and eating them with my hands, except for the more savoury ones with bacon or apple, as those are difficult to roll up. Those I ate with fork and knife.
At the annual global theme park awards, the one for best landscaping always goes to either Efteling or Bush Gardens. Have you been to that one? Any thoughts on it compated to Efteling?
As a person who goes multiple times a month to the park it is really fun to see it through the eyes of someone who is new to the Efteling. I hope you had a fantastic day at the park and understood the story telling of the attractions because that makes the rides complete. The story telling and theming makes the Efteling what is it!
Seen quite a few vlogs about The Efteling... this one is one of the best in my opinion!! Always great to see someone from another country enjoying this great place!!! 😊😊😊
Went to Efteling in Feb and loved it, can't wait to go back when Danse Macabre opens. I really do think there is some weight in rumours that Walt visited before he opened Disneyland, especially when you compare the Enchanted Forest to the Storybook Boats and even the whole of Fantasyland. Its a stunning park, so glad you enjoyed it as much as we did ❤
His main (documented) inspiration comes from "Tivoli" in Copenhagen and "Madurodam" in .......the Netherlands. It is however well known that Disney Company asked and received help from "Efteling" when designing their Paris park. It is also not like Walt and their park designers lived in an isolated bubble. So a healthy exchange of plans, designs and ideas has taken place over the years.
Hi King Miles and Minions. Thank you for bringing us along to this Amazing Park. Everything looks incredibly Awesome. Stay Safe and keep having Fun on your Euro-Adventure.
Growing up in holland as a kid we’d always eat the pannekoeken with our hands. We put syrup on it roll it up and eat it like a sandwich! Love that you guys visited De Efteling it is truly a magical place!
Another amazing video!!! Way to go miles - I mean KING!! That was amazing so special! My husband and I are going to miss seeing your videos everyday. We love you and your family. Thank you ❤️
Netherlands here, you eat that pancake however you want honey! Fork, hands, its all good!! And yes, the Efteling is not just a theme park, it takes you away from everything for a day!
I can't believe how beautiful Efteling is. It really does look magical. So fun to experience something I've never heard of before. Loved Miles as the King, so cute! Can't wait to see what's next on your journey. 😁💗
So, I actuaĺly work at Efteling for like 14 years. I loved watching your video and hope to meet and welcome you soon in the holiday park of Efteling (called Bosrijk). Keep making these video's, youre doing a great job! Greetings from the Netherlands ❤
Going to a theme park is a day of rollercoasters..going to the Efteling is a day being away from reality.
Yes.
The best way to describe it is by a famous Dutch saying "Just act normal, than you'll act crazy enough"
The people who stare at you while you were waving, they just thought to themselves "Who's that? I don't know him, so why is he waving at me? What did I do?".
I could not have said it better. Should be the parks tag line :p
@@Spiritus_Invictus Totally agree on that part, very direct we are, but mostly with the truth😂
Oh get real. Efteling is meh at best.
@@mr_don_key you are forgetting one of the driving forces behind the enigneering, Henk Smulders.
Famously Walt Disney took his inspirations of his theme park from the Efteling and Anton Pieck
He illustrated the Dutch edition of the Grimm tales. What you see in the fairy tale wood, is the same as his illustrations.

So don't worry about that :)
ha yeah honestly, i think lot of people use cutlery mainly not to get your hands greasy or sticky from stroop or sugar or so :p
If your not literally stuffing your face in some weird way just take bites, i doubt anyone would be bothered :)
If i make them at home and take them, one hundred percent eat them by hand haha
But is waving from a train allowed?
@@Sinjinator Allowed? Of course. People are just not used to it and have to process what you're expecting of them. By the time they realize you're just waving and greeting people for fun, the train has passed and they lost the moment.
@@Sinjinator Waving at people from boats is where its at though
Our local little Parc? 😮
My boomer parents have never been.. but they're still under 70 so there's still hope..
Not only in The Netherlands, The Python is the first steel rollercoaster on mainland Europe.

I'm happy for you to have experienced such a strong connection. Your comment made me smile.
I understand you, every time I visit it I feel like a young kid again
Aw, that’s so wholesome.
Fun fact , the Efteling is where Walt Disney got his inspiration from to build Disneyland etc . He was here in the 50/60’s apparently
Real Quick “Vuur” is literally Fire! “Vuurwerk” is fireworks! Great Video, we Love “de Efteling” went there a thousand times as a child ❤
It’s videos like this that make me feel really proud to be Dutch.
Love the Netherlands!😇🙏🎠🎡🎉
My grandparents came from the Netherlands to Utah after the war. We would always roll our Dutch pancakes also put chocolade hagelslag (usually goes on toast). My favorite Dutch treat is oliebollen, soooo good!
Lekker! 😋
Lots of Dutch people in Utah, aren't there?
Oliebollen met poedersuiker!!😋
For the Dutch the Efteling runs through our veins. Many of us went there as a toddler, as a kid, as a teen, in our twenties, as a parent and as a grandparent and all those age stages play their part every time we revisit. And even when we reach the age where only rollercoasters count, we still treasure and won’t forget to pay a visit to Fairytale Forest, listening to the musical fly agarics playing Bach like when we were 3.
40 now, been there twice. couldn't care less about the Efteling really.
Hi, I am Dutch. Being tired 24/7 I thank you for taking me to the Efteling. Feels like I was there myself. Nice day out. ❤
Oh we do eat pannekoeken with our hand, you did good.
Usealy we eat them at home and we role it up and eat them 🤗

I thing I noticed at both parks is how clean everything is. Not a single piece of trash anywhere!
@@aurawilming6047 Or the cannon. dont forget the cannon in the fairytail forest.
@@DBZVelena 8-year old me was scared of the cannon :) But you are right, my brother loved the cannon.

For The Efteling, I filmed the making off, of this trackless ride.
That’s terrifying, I’m glad you’re okay now, enjoy your travels 🙏🏻💞♥️
Good to hear your on your road to recovery , enjoy your travels...
I hope you get the chance to visit Efteling. And get cancer free one day.
I really hope you get the chance to go one day. And I hope you recover soon. Good luck on your proposal!!
Life is indeed short, hope you get to see it once
Waving to people is definitely a cultural difference. Dutch are just really direct. They wave to you if they want to and if they are in the same "zone". They dont mean to be impolite. Just see it like this : Americans say when they meet people in an exagerated way "how are you doing? " Even if the dont mean it. Dutch people will not do that so easily. Only if they really want to know it.
And Dutch have the saying (iĺl try to translate it to English) "Just act naturally, that is allready crazy enough"
But it's not impoliteness, they are just not used to be so extravert. Most Europeans have that.
Btw being Dutch, i like your videos and your enthousiasm!
😃
Thank you for taking the time to explain the cultural differences regarding waving and other greetings!
I adore the Efteling, but the story about Walt Disney taking inspiration from the park isn't true

Efteling definitely put the Park in Theme Park!
And the most definitely put theme in it too 😂 In all their rides, the queues, the toilets, the restaurants, theming everywhere
@@ninaw3748 most of the original theme design was done by anton pieck ,who already had an idea of a fairytale forest himself as a park, that's how it started out too
he did a lot of christmas cards too, the man was great at painting an idyllic fantasy picture, he was considered kitschy and frumpy by many, but hey but when it comes to designing theme parks, you want it to be over the top, and really drive home the theme across the board, right? :D
the perfect man for the job, he had the complete vision to really create his fantasy world of fairy tale nostalgia
My favorite thing is watching the kids and teens waving at the camera! It’s the cutest!

And I have loved to see it fascinated you all too :)

Wow, so it's the most beautiful theme park in the world, but also in the top 3!
Yep, Disneyland, DisneySea and the Efteling all share my top spot. But when it comes to natural beauty, nothing can beat the Efteling.😊

The efteling once started out as a nature park and they do their best to keep as much nature as possible
im a big big efteling fan and i can tell you, you were right about the forest being here first! it started as a nature park, then after they added the fairytales, starting with only 10. and they continued adding more extravagant and thrilling attractions as the park grew in popularity and also to keep up with the times and gain a bigger target audience. they are actually legally bound to keep the park 89% nature! they are not allowed to build on more than 11% of the park. and as of now it is a nature/theme/attraction park. and i think that along with the extreme amount of detail and immersion, this is what makes the park so unique and beautiful. another fun fact is that they even coordinate the nature with certain attractions and areas for a more immersive experience! pretty much every person involved in creating the magic is genuinely passionate about it all and that’s what makes it so much more enjoyable for many people :)
A trick if you get sick in Villa Volta: look at the mirrors of the... gondola I guess? The mirrors on the ends of the room stay horizontal, so you always have a reference point.

i love the efteling, because the focus of the rides are not the ride itself but the story surrounding it, like the myths, legends and fairytales of our country.
It is difficult to understand because so many rides are dutch, we had to softly explain/translate it to my Belgium friend when we went, but it makes me so happy that you got the gist of the story told and could enjoy the ride without knowing the language, which is so cool!!

I love that the Provost family is on this adventure ❤

I think trains are way more common in the Netherlands and therefor waving is not really a thing. Waving doesnt make you rude, nor does it make the Dutch rude. There is also a cultural diff. i am from the netherlands, and that waving is not rude or something. if i am in the eftelinf train, i also do it. but sometimes people do wave back. and you had only people that were not having there best day!
Great video😊. Love it when an adult can be as enthusiastic as child again. Keep that up👍😊. That’s the secret of life. Stay a child always
I'm visiting the Efteling at least twice a year from 1969, I just love it❤
It’s the little details for me and so clean 😊
You are amazing. 💙💚
I remember going there as a kid in the 90's!
Went there every year with my kids between them being 6 and 12/13. Always with friends tagging along. Great fun.
Honestly there are better parks if you're seeking thrills, but efteling is unmatched when it comes to ambiance and production. I've never seen anything like it.
Just now finding this video (always like to see people react to my fav amusement park)
at 7:43 it does indeed mean fire, not firework. firework is vuurwerk (might edit more in the future for more fun facts or other things)
at 12:31 that bird has a worlrecord as the largest bird (statue) in the world, efteling has a bunch more worldrecords, for example the oldest still working caroussel is also in the Efteling, and the pancakehouse once made the largest stack of pancakes that could stand on it's own.
at 13:16 the story of Vogel Rok (aka Bird Rok) is one of the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, a middle eastern folktale. the attractions around it (minus carnaval festival) are also themed after his stories. also at 13:48 you go into a giant snake mouth, not a bird beak (as part of the story was that Sinbad was attacked by snakes)
at 18:31 the band of robbers called the goat riders (de bokkenrijders) actually excisted, they were so good at robbing places and getting away, that people made up mythical stories about them, which inspired the ride.
21:47 for the Merlin's castle ride they had to give permission to Walibi, cause the one at Efteling was the very first type of this ride, I think these days everybody can use it, but Efteling was the first.
at 39:13 nobody knows what he says, he's not speaking Dutch either, just babbeling. you have 3 results you can get, a positive one (he laughs a lot), a negative one (he shakes his head and makes tssk tssk sounds) and a neutral one (where he is just babbeling to himself)
1:07:03 it is definatly not rude to wave, I would love it if more people would do it, and often people do wave back (I guess you got unlucky) people here tend to be more in their own bubble, and don't tend to wave to strangers, which is something I would love to see change, I love waving and talking to people about the Efteling (as you might notice from this long comment)
really loved this video and your reactions, gonna watch the next one probably tomorrow, if you are ever interested in more fun facts about the Efteling and the specific attractions, feel free to ask, as I said, I love talking about it (so much I am making a video series about it)
I went to Efteling 50 years ago on a school field trip.
28:30 Yes it's fine! A lot of people (okay usually only the kids) roll up their pancake and eat it with their hands.
Not only the kids....😇
@@Sjaan_Banaan Also people who don't care! And there should be more of those.
@@Timmmvs Absolutely! A real pancake tastes best when it's rolled up😁😍
As a person who goes multiple times a month to the park it is really fun to see it through the eyes of someone who is new to the Efteling. I hope you had a fantastic day at the park and understood the story telling of the attractions because that makes the rides complete. The story telling and theming makes the Efteling what is it!
Wow! Just wow! Thanks for taking us there! Really looking forward to tomorrow's video looking at the hotel and overview. Thanks!
The whole place is a fairytale. It never gets old. I love the Fairyforest the mist. Heaps of nostalgia.
🐌 Kermit is wrong. It’s always time for that kind of humor.
I got an Efteling annual pass. Love the park! Thanx for all the compliments!!!
Biggest mistake I ever made in my theme park life was doing efteling in one day and cramming it all in non stop
So proud to have grown up with Efteling. It has a special place in the hearts of us Dutch. Specially around the North Brabant area.
Love the energy you always have!
Thank you!!
I can't believe how beautiful Efteling is. It really does look magical. So fun to experience something I've never heard of before. Loved Miles as the King, so cute! Can't wait to see what's next on your journey. 😁💗
