This is such wholesome content. I consider myself an advanced sport bike rider and it is wonderful to see new riders starting their motorcycle journey. Less and less people want to ride it seems so its great to see you out here learning and posting content for others to learn from and get motivated by. Sorta jealous that you have so much to learn and explore. After many years riding I get "numb" to it sometimes. This type of videos are what renew my inner child. Thank you for this.

This is so sweet. Thank you so much. I honestly didn't think anyone was even going to watch this, but I am grateful that it could bring back some memories! The grass is always greener it seems because I can't wait for the day that I feel comfortable and confident lol. I guess it could be a good reminder to enjoy where we are at in our journeys! Wish you all the best! happy riding :)

Never lose that fun and child-like approach to biking. So many people pretend it's serious and macho with the biggest and loudest bikes. We ride bikes because it's fun and silly and it's like we're kids again playing on our push bikes.

It’s pretty serious lmao the injury possibility from low speeds is severe.

1:57 saying what you see, looking ahead. This is what the teach on advanced training. It's great you're already doing this because it means you plan ahead and it will give you more time. At first it is tough to go but after a while it really gives you more time.

"I felt very cool, even if I sucked" yup, me to! One of my first rides to an actual place was to a coffee place near my daughters school to meet up with her. My daughter had apparently been telling her whole school her dad got a motorcycle and one of the teachers was going through the drive-thru and literally said "oh, this must be the father we have heard so much about! Nice motorcycle!" meanwhile I am still a waddling my bike in backwards to the parking spot... so much emotional pain...

LOL no that is so awesome! Your daughter is so proud of you! and nothing wrong with waddling the bike around hahah

    Couple points from me:
    1. You want to get your gear changes done while the bike is still rolling. It's fine to keep the clutch in until you're ready to go. The bits in the gearbox need to be moving so the bits in the gearbox can move. Otherwise it'll just lock up and it'll break before it gets into gear. If you're stationary and in neutral, let the clutch out. That'll keep bits moving until bits need to move to get you into 1st.
    2. Practice emergency braking. With the bike upright, a SMALL front wheel slide or a stoppie will have no ill effects. Both are corrected by easing off the brake. You're not going for any particular standard, just exploring your bike's capabilities, so start small and build up to the hard braking. In all cases the technique is the same. Instructors at my nearby school call it "kiss & squeeze" - take up the slack, and *smoothly* add pressure. You'll be surprised by how well your bike can stop. As you gain confidence in your ability to brake, you'll naturally tend to not stop early for things. You'll become more comfortable with speed too, knowing stopping isn't an issue.
    Have fun! 😊

I just found your videos, and it certainly brings back memories. I started riding in high school, and when you mentioned how it felt riding at speed...although it's been a number of years, that feeling (or rather the memory of that feeling) stays with you. It's something else entirely, and hard to explain to someone that doesn't ride. Really enjoying the content!

@@gaabbiioOMG you feel it so much more than inside a car. You feel the wind pressure, the hot, the cold, the noises are louder, the wind pushes you about on your arms, head, torso.
When you go really fast there's a wind effect where it's actually pushing you on your back to go forward, just a little bit. You can see this when people ride just wearing a T-shirt. It gets lifted up their back, above their skin, so it's not even touching them. I expected to need to be really strong to hold on when going fast, but the air pocket/bubble effect means it's actually ok going quick (70 to 100 mph).
Up at 150 mph the wind actually shakes quickly the helmet causing vision to blur a little at times. Moving into a better position helps solve this. At least that's what I found.
Video creator, your videos just bring back so many memories and feelings. I keep having those "oh yeah I remember this feeling" and smiling to myself while watching you have that moment in real time.

    Great stuff. Right on girl!
You bring back a lot of memories for a lot of us!
Ride for a year as much as you can, then as crazy as it sounds.
Take some track day classes. Where you will learn about the apex, corner entry speed and exit, engine breaking and so much more.
It will boost your confidence and squash a lot of phantom fears.
If there is anything I would tell you to keep foremost in your mind is,
"Don't look where you are going. Look where you want to go!"
That simple statement has saved me from a few potential "situations."
Above all, enjoy and have tons of fun.😄

One one hand its heartwarming to see new riders learn...
...on the other hand its a bit sad to see US folk dont get riding school.

    Good job, good video.
Great to see newer riders enjoying the ride.
I have been riding around 15 years and still use an abundance of caution.
My opinion is never get so confident that you become dangerous.
I will never forget my first ride on the real streets.
I couldn't understand how ppl rode over 35-40 mph and not have a full panic attack.
It just takes time and instructions from experienced riders that you trust. And always wear your gear.

Looking so much better and you have good observations. Always do a shoulder check if you're changing lanes and keep everything smooth like the sound of your voice😁. It's really unsafe to hold the clutch in unless you're at a stop. When you coast on the clutch you have very little control. Your shifting sounds good for how little you had been riding. Nerves will always be a hinderence to newer riders but they will pass as you continue to improve. When looking to pull out onto a road try to look for longer rather glance many times. This will give you less of a rushed feeling and give you more time to assess whether you have time to pull out and get up to speed without impeding other vehicles. There's alot to learn and the good riders never stop regardless of how many years they've been riding or how many miles they've stacked up. Keep practising, keep safe and keep having fun.

@@gaabbiio there is so much it can be overwhelming but take your time. There's a few good channels like motojitsu and dandanthefireman that will help you with proper technique and also teach you how to avoid being involved in a crash. And take courses if you can. Ridden bikes all my life. Best advice I've ever received is to ride with a finger covering the front brake. If you ever get into a panic braking situation you will tense up and only stomp the rear brake. Also, with the finger already there, I have grabbed it subconsciously before I could even think about it in an emergency situation. It is uncomfortable and throttle control is harder but worth learning. You're doing great! Be safe and always ride your own pace.

    • @gaabbiio
      @gaabbiio  10 месяцев назад

I ride with a couple fingers resting on the front brake! I just found this was most natural and comfortable for me:) I have gotten a few comments telling me to NOT do this, so it seems a little controversial lol. I’m just going to keep doing what feels natural. Maybe on a longer ride I wouldn’t..so my throttle hand doesn’t get as tired? But idk
I think they tell new riders to not do this because they don’t trust them enough to not panic and pull the front brake but I’m not sure?
      Thank you!

You have a nice self deprecating way of sharing your experience. If I can offer one bit of advice it would be to be more confident. Reminds me of my first time out on the road, though I live right next to a gas station, so the ride wasn't exactly long.
It really does trip you out when you start to go faster on a bike. I had to work up some courage at the 50+ mph marks, and it took a few times out on the street before I was comfortable going 70. The first time I went 70, it really hit me how much harder it is to turn the bike than even 50 or 55, so I didn't feel like I had as much control as I liked when I first started going that fast.
Keep taking it easy, ride your own ride. If you feel unsafe doing something, don't do it and build yourself up until you're comfortable.

Enjoying the vids, you're doing great, dont know how it works in the states but in the UK those hexagonal Stop signs, You must come to a stop behind the line even if the coast is clear, and on a bike test if I remember correctly, they judge your stopping by means of seeing you put your gear shift foot on the floor, while preesing the rear brake with right foot, if you then find you haven't got it back into 1st already then you have to have to do a switch around with the feet, but keep maintain the brake light on using the front brake, but that probs sounds a bit confusing right now but the main point I think is het into the habit of actuality stopping completely at stop signs as I suspect thats the rules in the states also, stop means stop right!? 💁‍♂️🤷‍♂️😅 ...I use spongebob waiting interval cards in some of my vids too, its funny how spongebob has soo many RUclips vids using them because they are fun, ps I think it took longer than 12 seconds to pump gas pay the clark and glove up, lol! 😅

Nothing wrong with being observant, and thinking no one can see you. To be honest, they probably don't! Biking is all about defensive riding, expecting the unexpected. One thing I did to remember to turn the signal light off, was just getting into a habit of pushing the turn signal off button every so often. Eventually you will will just instinctively signal and turn it off. The great thing about this vlog is you will be able to see how much you grow and progress. Enjoy the journey, the adventure, and the freedom! Great bike to learn on, keep it up!

I've only been riding for six months, and all these things you spoke about in the video are all things I either used to be concerned about or am still concerned about.
I used to race cars. Nothing major, just BMW Club racing, but I do consider myself an advanced car driver. I can tell that my muscle memory is still not anywhere close to where it is in a car. It seems like it's going to take a few years and 10s of thousands of miles before I begin to feel as comfortable on a bike as I do in a car. I'm not frustrated about it at all. I just look at it as a challenge. Your journey looks exactly like mine, just behind by six months.
P.S. I find that wearing ear plugs makes it a lot less chaotic.

Came from cars to bikes as well, but i have ridden dirt bikes and quads as a kid so the motorcycle skills came on pretty fast for me i think. I did scca autocross, drifting, HPDE track days, but bikes are way more exhilarating for sure. I am 8 months in and am getting ready for my first track day soon. Both of you two probably understand by now that there's nothing like the feeling of hopping on your bike and going somewhere, just to experience the "going there" part of it. Motorcycles are awesome!

The clutch thing and going downhill and the bike going faster. I've seen you know about engineering and how to use a lathe, so i suggest watching a video showing what the clutch does.
Basically the clutch is 2 plates the size of a cup coaster. There's a spring pushing the 2 plates together. One plate is attached to the engine, the other plate is attached to the gearbox.
When you pull the clutch lever you are separating the 2 plates, and your fingers are pulling against that spring which pushes the 2 plates together.
So you pull the lever and tie means the gearbox clutch plate has distance from the engine clutch plate. This allows you to change gear. The engine clutch plate is spinning with the engine, so when you pull in the lever you move it away from the gearbox clutch plate.
When you let the clutch lever out you are joining the 2 plates together, and the engine is now connected to the gearbox. You know when you rev the engine the bike goes faster, you close the throttle and the bike slows.
Pulling the clutch lever separates the engine from the gearbox, which is why you go faster down a hill if you pull the clutch lever in. Because the engine is now distanced from the gearbox.
I had a driving instructor who actually made 2 little plates on a shaft with an electric motor on one side and a tire on the other. Just so learners could see it and know it.
An actual clutch has multiple layers of plates, but it's still 2 plates, 1 attached to the engine side, the other attached to the gearbox side.
You're smart, you're an engineer, I've no doubt you'll get this. So far you're doing great. And the fact that you're trying to solve this puzzle already shows you're putting the thinking time in.

Thank you I think others will find this explanation useful as well.
Honestly, I do have a basic understanding, I just had a habit of not wanting to engine brake? Lol
I am practicing engine braking and downshifting more now:)
at first I think it was hard for me because my throttle control wasn’t great..so engine braking was so jerky! Pulling in the clutch was my way of smoothing things out.

I think going on a really good way. For sure you should be aware and predict stuf so you get ready. Basicly ride on safe mode xD with the time you unconsciously start feelling your limits and stay there. For sure never forget your gear as well You probably already know all this so thats it. Btw the voice over sounds great so could be a way of content if you want.
Have a good time. Ride safe!

after a 30 year break I got back into the riding. Took the HD skills class (3 days quite good taught by NC Motorcycle police). Ive spent the first 120 miles around the neighborhood, then local church parking lots, a some 40MPH driving. One recent video said you should practice your first 500 miles local and not past 40 mph/3rd gear which is good advice. Im riding a new BMW r1250r which it perfect for me. Your Video is PERFECT and expresses my feelings to the letter. Well done Gabi, Although I had a TON of riding experience I needed the basic down pat.Well done.

I'm just finishing my driving lessons for A1 license (up to 125cc) and I really appreciate your videos and all the problems and fears that you talk about. I've been driving a car for more than 20 years, but only when I first got on a scooter did I feel how "fast" 40 km/h (20 mph) really is, how much colder it is, how much I can feel the wind... And after 90 minutes of riding through the city during the rush hour, with the 100% focus, I really feel exhausted and I need at least a day to rest properly and to be ready for another ride.
I also plan to start recording when I get my license and buy my own scooter, to make some kind of documentation of my beginnings (speaking about that, any tips about mounting a GoPro on a helmet are welcome 🙂).
Keep riding and stay safe! 🙂
    P.S.
As one guy from my country said: "I'm afraid of the motorcycles. That's why I've been successfully riding them for more than 20 years"

      Oh so cool!
It’s pretty sketchy where I’m at lol, you only have to take 2 short tests and you can go ride any bike. It’s crazy to me that people can start on huge bikes and hit the freeway instantly! It does feel so fast!
And I feel you on the fatigue, so far it’s been mostly mental. It’s hard to stay so focused.
As far as mounting, I just use some of the standard GoPro mounts and GoPro adhesive for a “chin mount”. I am looking to get a new camera set up in the future so maybe I’ll do a short video of that at some point.
Thanks for the nice comment! Good luck on your riding journey!! 😊

    • @gaabbiio

Exciting!🙈 I love the mt-03 as a beginner bike, I think it just depends on what you think your riding style will be! My friend got the rebel 500 because she is shorter and being able to flat foot the bike is really nice if you are just starting out! So it depends on how tall you are and if you can lift it lol. 500cc seems fine for a cruiser, but I think that’s a great idea to stay in the 250-400 range for a sportier bike.
My main recommendation is to just go sit on as many bikes as possible and see what feels right :)

    • @gaabbiio
      @gaabbiio  10 месяцев назад +3

it is safer to stay in first! You want to be ready at intersections/stops to take off if you need to…like if someone comes up really fast behind you.
It’s also good to not stop directly behind cars for this reason, stop to either side of the lane (whichever is best for seeing and being seen). That way you have a better escape path between lanes and don’t get smashed between two cars

By my count you were still at less than a month of doing this and first time really out on roadways trying to shift. hearing the sounds you were thinking the steps, roll off throttle, clutch in, shift gear, clutch out, roll on throttle. Almost as if I can hear you saying the step in your head as you are doing them. That hesitation is you thinking through it. It will start to become more fluid and your muscle memory will take over and you will soon do all five of those steps in under a second. I know you might find that hard to believe now, but it will happen.

Ah. no no, when you pull the clutch in, the bike loses any retardation, so it only feels like you're going faster. Just like letting go of the brakes. Haven't you done a motorcycle driving course yet? Seems not, as the instructors will explain stuff like that if you ask them. Good luck anyway.

Yeah I understand that now! Unfortunately the course that is offered here that I took did not go over engine braking (it might have been mentioned once, but not in detail) or riding on different elevations. Thanks!
