    OMG I've done the "stopping in 3rd gear" and the gearbox won't shift down 😀 and now the lights are changing 🫢😆
    You are using all your hands and feet, as well as looking around, and balancing, all at the same time. And feeling a bit vulnerable too, is the car behind me going to stop.
    You're being honest about it. This makes your videos endearing and relatable. And this is why in some countries there's a lot of motorcycle training. Did you know in Europe you have to be 21/24 before you're allowed to ride a full sized unrestricted motorcycle? Because it's hard.
    On the higher power bikes it's possible to pull away so quickly that the tyre breaks traction and loses grip and the bike slides out from under you, if the tyres are brand new and still have that terrible slippy shiny stuff on them. I found that out myself. Embarrassing and a few hundred to replace the scratched fairings.
    You're doing great.

      (late reply lol)
      Thank you so much!💜🙈
      I have gotten many comments about how relaxed the laws are here and it is crazy! I am so glad I didn't get an even bigger bike... with how little I knew when getting this one... Luckily the guy at the dealership was not trying to oversell me on a 600 or something. The 320cc is mooore than enough haha.

    You’re doing well,mate . With more seat time comes more confidence. Remember, “eyes up”, alway look where you want to go. 8:52 I recon your arm is sore because ya fingers are “covering” the clutch and brake ( this is a good technique for car park situations with lots of traffic, not for open road riding, cause in an emergency situation you’ll grab both clutch and brake and you’ll end up on the ground.) If you relax ya hands on the grips, it’ll be far more comfortable and not tiring. 🇦🇺🤙🏼

    • @gaabbiio
      @gaabbiio  8 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Dude it is so hard to break the habit, I just feel so much more comfortable and prepared with a couple of fingers on the levers. I have heard mixed things about this as well. A lot of people say it's bad to hover the brake because you could accidentally yank on it, some say it is safe because it decreases the reaction time when needing to brake. so many things to think about lol but I will continue to try both ways.
      And yeah I have been learning to relax my grip and it is helping so much! thanks✌️

    i just wanna give you all the love and support, your content is so honest and wholesome. very very inspiring for new riders to watch that no one is perfect and everyone has to start somewhere, keep up the good work!!!!!! little tip from an experienced rider, i know higher gears can seem scary but shifting sooner and riding around in a higher gear is more forgiving on the throttle and will help not be so sensitive worst case you always have the clutch in a break worrie about downshifting later. best of luck!!!!!

    The drone scenes were so nice. As a newbie fellow rider I'd like to say that we should be comfortable with our mistakes, no one does anything perfect as soon as they do it for the first time. In my first week of non-parking lot riding I have stalled, I have been afraid of cars and started waiting them from miles away, forgot to get into 1st before stopping etc. and this is all normal. Proud to see another starter getting comfortable, keep the vlogs coming.

    • @gaabbiio
      @gaabbiio  10 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you! That was the first time we took the drone out so hopefully we get better with more practice. I also noticed it was really dark and I should have done more post-processing but oh well lol.

    I love your authenticity. I have been riding since I bought my first bike in 1985. Keep getting out and challenging yourself. You are doing great! Always remember to find an empty lot now and then and practice your low speed skills. That's the one thing that people seem to forget about. But those skills are use it or lose it type. By the way I am teaching my wife to ride right now and she has been watching your videos. Have fun and stay safe.

      Aw thanks so much for the sweet comment. It is always nice to hear from seasoned riders, as a new rider we usually just get bombarded with horror stories.
      And that is a great tip! I think I need to go to a big parking lot and practice emergency braking at different speeds next. I think one of the main reasons it is so scary to go 35-50 is because I don't have much experience coming to a quick stop at those speeds.
      Hi to your wife!! Thanks for watching. Good luck on your riding journey!

    But TWO major tips!
    Nr.1 Tip for every motorcycle enthousiast ever: GET HEARING PROTECTION, tinnitus is NO JOKE. Nr.2 Get a decent pair of boots, preferrably supporting your ankles when you fall, stumble or for whatever reason had to lay her down.

    Hey great job out there. You are improving well and gaining confidence. In regards to the wind, just embrace the tension it puts on your body. The more you expose yourself to it the more "numb" you will get to it blowing you around the road. Don't worry about the mistakes you make either. Those mistakes are a sign of courage and willingness to learn. I have crashed superbikes mid turn at 70mph before. Its just part of it. Keep having fun with it and realize every step along the way is to be cherished. Keep it up.

    Really great to see a blast from the not-so-far-away past. I've been riding for 4 years now and I am at a point where I'm sometimes too confident and comfortable on my bike for my relatively low experience, because I've become something of a speedy boy over the past year. 😀 Great to see someone experiencing and slowly clawing their way into the hobby again to put things like road safety and speed awareness into perspective. I'm from Germany and can therefore go full bore on my bike and go the 186 mph legally, which I occasionally do. I think you will also experience how quickly one gets used to higher speeds, but I'm not really sure what the highest legal speeds are in your area.
    Anyway, thank you for posting your journey. A few of my friends are thinking of getting into the hobby and I've linked your account so they can actually see the journey and what to expect from someone who is trying to take and slow and safe. They are kind of put off by the more scary and frankly insane bike content on RUclips. Also appreciate you showing the hickups along the way.

    I love this series and am now subbed! I forgot how exciting it is to ride for a new rider and is certainly nostalgic! One bit of advice: you mentioned your arms were getting tired because of the wind and holding on for dear life. Remember to always keep your arms loose on the controls. If your arms are stiff you may enter a negative feedback loop and start getting wobbles. You should be able to flap your elbows like a bird. Hold onto the bike with your knees/thighs and engage your core to adjust your angle for the wind.
    I look forward to watching your progress. It's already great so far!

    I just got recommend your first ep. today and watch all your videos back to back! It's so nice to see more beginner bike content FROM beginners on here :)
    I got my licence in august last year and did a small four day bike tour with my partner and my father in law like two weeks later 😂
    And its comforting to see that you struggled with similar things I did in the beginning as well. Sometimes I worried way to much about little things and ended up not taking opportunities to ride. But just riding a bunch was something that helped me alot, so keep at it as much you can and I'm sure you'll improve quickly 👍🏻

I also have a naked bike, im putting a little windscreen on it because its windy where i am and i get hammered, I did a 1 hour ride and later that night my neck and shoulders were so sore! A few things ive been told, bring your elbows closer, sit back a little bit and lean down when you feel like its too windy for the upright position. Even doing it slightly makes a big difference for me. When going over bumps, push your weight down on the pegs, that way it doesnt feel like your arse gets slammed into the seat lol.
    And youre right about not worrying what others think, i do what i consider stupid things too, accidently putting in neutral and then stalling at a giveway, stalled coming out my driveway and then when i was pulling out from being parked lol. I think that is mostly because i need to wear my gloves in a bit more as they are leather so i dont get that same movement i would with bare hands ya know, plus when its cold i need to remember to turn on my heated grips, makes a big difference in being able to feel my fingers properly.
    I say exactly the same things as you do every ride too, so its absolutely a beginner thing and not just a you thing

    In a car you are cooped up... you see everything through a unibody and panes of glass... on a motorcycle you may have a visor in front of your eyes but you, your body, are part of the scenery. You feel everything and it makes you more connected to what is going on around you. Nothing can prepare you for how visceral riding a motorcycle is.

    Hello gabi,
    I just watched your first video and this one.
    Welcome to motorcycling!
    You've made great progress!
    I love seeing new riders learn and progress so I got some tips for you:
    Check in your local area if there's a training program for motorcycle riders. You'll learn a lot in these courses.
    In your first video you hurt your knee and you can see how good of a job the helmet did.
    In a motorcycle accident or tip-over, most injuries happen at legs, hips and feet, then hands and arms.
    Luckily you chose the MT-03, which is a great beginner bike by the way. A heavier bike might've broke a bone or something.
    Most deadly accidents are because the rider didn't wear a helmet, was drunk, under the influence or very sleepy.
    Being scared of your motorcycle is normal in the beginning. It also comes back for the first couple times you ride a bigger bike.
    Adjust the levers on your bike to suit your ergonomics. It makes a huge difference.
    I had neck pain after riding for 2h. The source were brake and clutch levers being tilted upwards too much.
    Also I damaged my hamstrings from shifting. Adjusting the shift lever helped with that. After adjusting the levers I was able to ride for prolonged periods of up to 6h.
    Stalling is always embarrassing. Just laugh it off and continue.
    There's an awful lot to learn in motorcycling. Skill, Technique, Gear, Mechanics, Electronics, Fitness and Mentality.
    I'll never forget the joy of my first time riding. Stay safe gabi :)

      Thank you for the comment!
      1. I took the beginner course that is offered in my area which was a 2 day course to get my riding permit. I am looking forward to also taking the "advanced" riders course when I am ready to get my endorsement :)
      2.Thank goodness for the smaller bike. Glad I have more gear now too!
      3. Good to know!
      4. The butterflies are always there. It is *slightly* less scary now and more exciting
      5.I just adjusted the levers actually, and I think it made a big difference!! Will have to look at the shifter too. Good tips!
      6. 100%😂
      trying my best! thanks for the tips💜

    If you scoot back on the seat (like butt against the arch for the passenger seat or as far as you can get based on you height) it will put you at a very slight lean forward and it will help you use other muscles to absorb the wind. I ride a lot of different naked bikes and standards so I do this a lot if I'm going to be at speed for any length of time. It will help you use your core and back so you don't feel like you are getting blasted around like a sail.

    What size is a mt03 a 300 or a 125! Great fun on exploration ride, I dont know if you change gear by looking at revs bar or by listening to engine, but I think the engine would love you even more if changed up a bit sooner when cruising on the open roads also most gears seem closer together at the lower and of the gear box, reving it quite high is only really needed when you are racing or trying to get up to speed quite quickly!, but also when you might need more revs before changing is if you are going up a hill, but hills that get steeper as you go are a bit daunting when getting used to the gearbox, as you have to go down through thr gears to find the right one with enough power to keep you from losing your momentum, but anyway that comes with time and getting a feel for it, you are progressing at a good pace and you're loving the progress we can tell, You obviously have that spark for motorcycling and know what its all about, but I can't understand why those that aren't into bikes have no interest in figuring out what it is we het out of it!, I guess fisherman or soccer fans think that about me though! 💁‍♂️

    btw just want causally mention that you might be making a very (could be) deadly newbie mistake, which is you pull in the clutch way too early when coming to a stop, you are letting your bike slide into the stop. It is bad because 2 things: 1) when you do it your bike basically lose power and if anything happens you need to get react quickly and you dont have power. This could be the difference maker between getting out of danger, and not. 2) you are increasing your total stopping distance by not engaging engine brake. When you have good tractions good tires good brakes, it might matter less. But as soon as the road is slightly wet, this could mean rear ending something, going into an intersection unintentionally, or being able to stop safely.
    Please do not pull in the clutch until the last 3-5meters before you come to a complete stop.

    • @gaabbiio
      @gaabbiio  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for this comment!! I realized I started doing this because I didn’t like the jerkiness when engine braking/down shifting when I was first learning. I think I am better with the throttle control now so hopefully that will help..I will go practice this next time I ride! Gotta break all the bad habits early 🫣😬
      Appreciate it!

    • @dustcake2576
      @dustcake2576 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@gaabbiio yeah totally understandable 🫡 it is also easier admittedly because no need to worry about things letting the clutch out and stalling too.
      Yeah but as you get better, keep that in mind. Because you don't want to associate that action (pulling in the clutch early) with all types of stopping. You don't want that to become muscle memory. Imagine if you are riding and you have to do an emergency stop, and you go to your clutch and brake at the same time. Total stopping distance would be increased by quite a bit, in an emergency situation every inch matters. Stopping at a light is relatively ok (still not good) because you can simply start braking earlier but emergency stop? You can't.
      Stalling and stuff shouldn't be something we worry about when we are trying to perform an emergency stop. Stopping is top priority.
      So yeah better not develop that incorrect association and muscle memories

    When you were in the wrong gear at the trafficlight, did you see the dark discoloration in the center of the road? That's often oil and crud from cars and can be very slippery. When you ride, stay in the center of the lane. When you stop at a trafficlight, stay on the left side. Not only to stay out of the blindspot of the car infront of you, but also because the centre of the road at trafficlights can be slippery and it gives you a better escape path incase the car behind you isn't paying attention.

    I dont know how I got here, but Im glad I did. Curiously when I learned more than 15 years ago how to ride I got it pretty well, as I already knew it, maybe in past lives or maybe because I always loved bikes. But that feeling of experience made me do a lot of stupid shit on my bike, I had to sell it before I kill myself. 😂😂😂 I spent couple years without riding and a friend borrowed me his big bike, it was a adventure, really torky, really fast. Again I pulled the throtle too much and gosh that is so much FUN but also terrifying. I became afraid of riding Idk why I thought I wasnt good enough. But that was what made me respect bikes even more. Now everytime I got a new bike a treat it like I dont know how to ride. Go slow before and then go fast. I consider myself really responsible nowadays, I can assure you, you are on the perfect path. Start just using 2 fingers on the clutch, as they have plenty of strength and you can still hold the grip with confidence. Also you need to be changing gears quicker, the MT03 prime upshift window starts at 6k RPM. And as long as you get back on the throttle immediately there is no need to slowly let the clutch out, that's only necessary for takeoffs

    So, I accidentally went 100mph on the interstate the other day. I honestly didn't realize it. I went to pass a line of vehicles and gunned it in 6th gear, and by the time I passed them, I was doing the ton. I don't ride on the interstate very much (it's super boring), so I was surprised. Anyway, I honestly don't think there's that much wind difference between 80mph and 100mph. There's a huge difference between 60 and 80 though.
    Also, my beginner bike is right on the bleeding edge of what most would consider a beginner bike (Triumph T120 Bonneville), so 100mph for that thing didn't seem to phase it, which is one less thing to clue me in. Maybe I should have gone for the T100 instead.

      I wouldn't say you messed anything up, if you didn't crash then you did it right
      Take a look @1:22 and @1:58 watch your handle bars, your steering is very upright and consists of a couple jerks of the handle bars in the direction you are trying to go, even at those slow speeds a little lean and some counter steering will give you that flow through the turns that feels awesome.
      @2:08 you give it a little lean looks much better
      After @9:28 when you are past the gravel you really losen up at let the bike lean more
      @11:35 is pretty bad
      Leaning can be intimidating but in the grand scheme it makes things a lot easier and you won't feel like the bike is fighting against you
      It could also be the angle of the camera and I'm just not seeing it right

      @@Second_Opinion_2 thanks for the detailed reply! I will have to reanalyze!
      And LOL..I knew 11:35 was the worst. Quite embarrassing really. I almost cut it out of the video, but decided it was good to keep the “ugly” for a more honest representation of my progress 😅😂

      @@gaabbiioThe _ugly_ stuff is just as important as the _good_ stuff, maybe more.
      It allows people to give advice and might avoid potentially dangerous habits

      Just found your channel this morning. You’re doing great. You’ll always make mistakes - allow yourself to just learn from them and move on. The best advice I can give you is ALWAYS assume that you’re invisible. Cagers will look you dead in the eye and still pull out in front of you. Always be thinking “how should I react WHEN that person pulls out in front of me”. Otherwise, keep doing what you’re doing and keep learning.
      One farkle recommendation - a brake light modulator (if legal in your area). They flash 4 or 5 times before going solid. A flashing brake light is MUCH more likely to be seen by the person behind you, lessening the chance that you’ll get rear-ended at a stop or turn. Other than that, just ride the crap out of that bike and have fun!
