Preparing Solutions - Part 3: Dilutions from stock solutions
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2015
- This tutorial describes how dilutions are made from stock solutions, and how to calculate the volume of stock solution required for a given final concentration. The rules here apply equally whether concentrations are being expressed as molarity, %, mg/ml or other.

thanks for restoring my confidence, i was the most confused person in lab regarding calculations. again thank you so much Mam
same situation.
You're not alone 🙂
concentrations have always come so hard to me compared to other parts of chemistry, no idea why besides that i'm just less math oriented
This video has got me through my degree
This is hands down the clearest explanation ever! Better than any website!!!
I really need to thank you for this tutorial, a total of about 6 years in school and counting. I lost confidence in myself until I came across your video today. Thank you so much.
I usually forget these calculations again and again but I thank her because every time I knew where I need to learn it again when I do forget.
I'm currently doing my second year in Biomed, I suffer from dyscalculia. This video has saved my grades! I've never felt so comfortable in labs and exams working out buffers etc. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I've been searching for too long for how to do the dilution method and this helped me quite alot.
Thank you very much.. never knew how to do it before; never will forget how to do it from now on
Thankyou mam i have watched all three of your videos and my concepts are clear like never before thankyou so much v apprenticted your work now i am able to solve any type of sims
A very good step-wise presentation. Please, more its kind.
Thank you!!! Great explanations for all videos
Please keep making videos! Very helpful. :)
Just made my life so much simpler
Very well explained mam. very helpful video.thanks for sharing
The equation made my life much easier. Thank you
Thank you so much! The concept is clear for me now.
Thank you very much!!! incredibly useful
i should study in glasgow.. u made it so easy to understand, thanks alot !
It was very helpful. Thank you so much :)
Hi ma'am, very helpful thank you. Does this kind of dilution (ie. starting from a stock) count as serial dilution? Or is serial dilution only when you keep decreasing the concentration by a set factor.
Thanks in advance.
That was super useful, thanks.
so theoretically, if I wanted to pippet a sample in a lab of 5.56microL, I would use a P20 with a 055 reading but what about the remaining .01microL, or would a "pipet W/ bulb and cylinder " be the only way to accurately draw a measurement in the hundreds place?
So helpful, thanks alot
im in love. thank you sooo much for this
Thank you so much for your help!
amazing !!!
best ever..Thankyouu!!
Can you please do a video for serial dilutions please?
Excellent explanation
Can you please make more videos? I could listen to your voice all day
I am so glad to study in Glasgow Uni and waiting to meet you in person, I would like to know what is written in the board in the back side about Phd, this is what I am planning to do next step, Thanks a lot for your lovely explanation
brilliant video thank you
Thank you so much!
please help me out of this: I need to use 100ng/ml of activinA(26 kDa mol. wt ) in 40 ml media.
what concentration of activin A i need to use to make it?
Mam u teach sooooo welll thank u
i get it now. Thank you
Thanks you so much clear , and usefull
Great trick
thanks for explaination
thank you so much!!
Your videoi is made so simple,Thank u so much ma'am,Can you please help me with serial dilutions and back calculation
Please which University are you a professor at you are a good teacher keep up the good work
OMG, Sophie Marceau doing molecular biology!!!
Very helpful
Plz make more videos mam.don't stop
Thank you so much...
Many thanks
Hey, I still do not understand how can I apply this when for ex. I have to make a solution 1:1000 for 50 mikro M fiinal working solution, when I have no other information like volume.
thank you very much, best explanation ever
by the way you are so pretty
This triples your work. Use M1V1 = M2V2 and you'll solve these in less than 15 seconds.
Example: Stock solution of 70% ETOH. How to make 100 ml of 10% ETOH?
(70%) x (volume) = (10%) x (100 ml) --> Volume = ((10 x 100)/(70)) --> Volume = 14.3
Thanks so much
Thank you
Stock concentration of IL-1 beta = 25 ug/ml
Need to treat cells with 1ng/ml IL-beta
Each well of cells in a 96 well plate is treated with 100 ul of the IL-1beta solution
You need to make up sufficient volume to treat 6 wells, using cell medium as the diluent.
Questions
Q1: what total volume of IL-1beta solution do you need to make up
Q2: how much of the stock solution do you need?
Q3: how much of the cell medium do you need for the dilution?
CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN IT FOR TOMMOROW
Please explain the calculations for enzymatic digestion of dna
400ml to make 2%.
1 part in 5 = 200ml
Half of a part = 100ml
So to make 1.5% solution
I would need 300ml per 1000ml
I think.
You can do C1*V1=C2*V2 in doing so you get X*2%= 1.5%*1000ml and if you solve for x you get 750ml of 2% stock soln in 250 of water.
but according to this video you would want to divide (1.5%/2%)*1000ml= 750ml of 2% stock soln in 250 of water.
Solve That
0.01 M sodium phosphate buffer in 20% sucrose: dissolve 0.095 g of acid (NaH2PO4), 0.054 g of salt (Na2HPO4), and 20 g of sucrose and make volume up to 100 mL.
I am always afraid when it comes to calculations in biology 🥲
Babe.
Thanks so much
Thank you very much
