- We do a first drive and technical interview with Honda Engineers about the new Prologue co-developed with GM. We discuss what's different and why this car exists in a world of first-generation EVs. The Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Mustang Mach-e, and Nissa Ariya are others to consider.

I feel sorry for this engineer having to be an apologist for the decision to partner with GM.
I hope he gets a big fat bonus check for selling his soul on this one.
That's the impression I got.
Chevys ev crap is really unreliable. Good luck Honda
Not really anything to do with GM if Honda isn't able to do it solo. No Japanese brand is in the game yet really so it will all be compromise.
He literally said the hardware is GM, thats not good.
I'm really glad they made the rear view window so small. I hate being able to see anything behind me.
Never look back!
ya, really.
vision is SO over=rated
And the engineer had the gall to claim that you'd know it was a honda by the excellent visibility...
When the band Boston came up with the song “Don’t Look Back,” it they were foretelling this vehicle
This is obviously a positive and you don't really need one. Tailgaters won't bother you, and you can just back up until you hear a thunk/screams and feel resistance. Less glass also means more safety and a quieter ride.
It's interesting how history repeats itself. When SUVs were emerging in the 90s, Honda hadn't done any meaningful R&D on their own SUV platform, so they borrowed one from GM (Isuzu) and called it the Passport. Here were are again, just replace SUV with EV.
Except the Isuzu Trooper was a great off-roader. It was a very solid vehicle…and being honest, Honda simply rebadged it.
Not sure about this GM thing.
@@user-vx7vi3vq1c my thoughts exactly, gm quality is not the same as isuzu quality
@@user-vx7vi3vq1c Except Trooper was not Passport, it was the Rodeo.
Honda traded Isuzu the first generation Odyssey (to be sold as the Isuzu Oasis) for the Rodeo (Passport) and Trooper (Acura SLX)
The two above me have no idea about how bad the Passport/Rodeo and SLX/Trooper were for Honda in the 90s. Isuzu engines were EXTREMELY prone to oil leaks, the bodies rusted at a higher rate than their Honda built counterparts, and they got ZERO support from Honda once the 2000s hit. There is a very big reason why you still see 4Runners and even Pathfinders and Monteros, rather than seeing Rodeos and Troopers and their Honda rebadges. That same misguidedness is what will cause this to fail. EVs are already not selling and sitting on lots, these will pile up on lots and the few who do buy them will suffer for it. Everyone I worked with at Acura quit right before this thing came out, including the master technician trained for it who had been with the dealer almost 20 years. That should tell you something...
In memory of Mark, this needed way more passive agressive energy.
In memory? Is he dead?
And more PIANO BLACK, too. As Christopher Walken says, “I want more PIANO BLACK!”
I hope not!! @@batitsogtsaikhan469

That should work out for Honda…

All for the low price of $50,000.00
Yep. It’s STILL a GM product with Honda skin. This is atrocious.
Wait for fire recalls lol
Honda: Our customers don't cross shop with GM.
Honda: Okay lets work with GM on our new EV SUV. 🤨
that makes total sense
And it looks like absolute garbage and costs too much.
One time went to a honda dealer to buy an accord and they told me that they don't compete with toyota when I told them that I don't like their price and will go to toyota.
Makes sense because both brands releasing the same suv won’t result in a cannibalization of sales for either

Nope, it's not even close to being laid out like a Honda, it's laid out like an Blazer EV, all the controls are not where Honda normally puts them, it's where GM put them. This vehicle was a total waste of resources for Honda.

They do have it, they said in another video that they filmed it, but hated it so much they didn't wanna release it.
Which sucks. I get wanting to preserve relationships with VW to continue getting test cars, but the bad ones are as important (if not more) than the glowing reviews
One of the most hilarious things I got from the development of this car, I read an article somewhere that Honda engineers were frustrated trying to make the vehicle NOT drive like a GM product.
DNA matters. And it is birthed in a GM factory. And given a GM price. And ultimately it’s the GM price that makes this a no from me. I need severe value for money, like an Accord LX.
Isn’t GM very good at suspension tuning though?
@@grantdillon1083 Not usually on on their "lower end" cars. Honda has a particular ride and handling mix they like and apparently GM stuff wasn't quite cutting it for them
I could imagine someone out there paying 48K very top trim for this, but 60k? Unreal.
EV’s cost about 10-20k more than similar ICE cars. So it’s kinda inline price wise.
@@MrMystang92 it's kinda INSANE that a vehicle that is mechanically so much simpler and takes little to no time to develop thanks to cross-vehicle platforms and universal underpinnings PLUS the fact that another company helped them develop it for even cheaper ***gasps for breath*** it should be LESS than usual. EV pricing is insane. It's a genre-wide problem. Frankly though, I wouldn't care at all because I'll never drive one again, EXCEPT for the fact that every EV in my state gets nearly 7 grand in grants from the state from MY taxes

It's as easy as saying milk comes from the grocery store.
@@THESLlCKthe government is funding OUR problems using OUR tax money. The problem being EVs.
@@THESLlCK Mechanically much simpler, but the supply chains are more complicated and the volume, variety, and cost of raw materials that go into EVs are significantly more than an ICE vehicle. So Honda was in charge of the stuff that doesn't really matter and GM was in charge of everything crucial like engineering and development. Great...😒. And yes, everything that the interviewed guy said means this thing is the pure definition of badge engineering.
You mean like the Toyota Matrix Pontiac Vibe or the Isuzu Trooper that became the Acura MDX or the first generation Honda Passport that was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo? I get it though from a financial risk standpoint, partnering with GM makes since, but based on the price it seems like your trying too hard to pay GM, Honda, and the dealership resulting in a car that's about $20K+ overpriced, just like all GM vehicles.
@@jefffaller8474the Trooper-based Acura SUV was called the SLX.
This interview hurts. Thank you GM fot letting Honda put your switches in a Honda position throughout the cab. You're so generous.
48-60k for this? As an enthusiast it’s mind-boggling to think someone would put that much money towards this.
Right? Lop 20k off each price and they'd be beating a path to the dealerships. But at this price, it's kind of nuts.
Welcome to US Greedflation. Where manufactures pushing shareholder value profits over people, and corporations remain clueless that the average American consumer wages have been stagnant since the 00s when you could get a new vehicle in the low $20s, in line with their salaries. Now the average new car is two-to-three times what they were in the 00s, but the wages are stuck there. It’s ridiculous.
@@colin-nekritz Don't forget wageflation as this is a UAW vehicle. EVs aren't exactly turning big profits right now.
@@colin-nekritz In Honda's defense, and as an actual Honda car owner, I can say that most of their lineup consists of extremely well made, reliable, and overall reasonably affordable cars, even considering the industry's crazy price increases of the past couple of years. This one just sticks out as "WAY too much money for too little actual value or even sizzle" IMO. You have other EVs in this price range that offer better range, more features (better AWD, etc.) or just more luxurious interiors for instance. It just feels very off-brand for Honda from a value perspective.
They'll probably have a discount before they get off the truck at the dealership; it's an EV in 2024 after all.

@@matthewmarshall5730 took a bright joe biden to catch it
Hard to make the math work on some of these EVs in my mind. It's ~$20k more expensive than a CRV, and $20k will buy you about 200,000 miles worth of gas at $3/gallon in a CRV. And if you want an EV just because you like the tech or for environmental reasons, why would you choose this?
Because after 200k miles, the EV will have emitted multiple times less emissions than an ICE vehicle
Please update your comparison logic (gas really?) its not 2013 anymore. I daily drive an EV and after 80K miles its cost me cheap electrons from my garage charger, tires, and a bottle of washer fluid. I don't miss the 16-18 oil changes, brake pads or any number of "flushes" or timing belt replacements at this point what so ever.
Solar panels on the roof of my home will give me a solar powered EV. Part of what I'm doing to fight climate change. Everyone has an excuse not to install solar panels and not to drive an EV, as the world heads into a climate change catastrophe. And you compare it to a CRV which is nonsense.
Remember this isn't the first GM and honda venture together who remembers the 2004-06 Saturn Vue with Honda's 3.5v6

Appreciate you guys maintaining a mature and professional tone over the elephant in the room here and not resorting to lame jokes and basest instinct snap judgements about GM.
