I've worn my Sinn 556A daily for five years now, and have received ONE comment complimenting it; recently, in a grocery store checkout line, the six-year-old daughter of the shopper in front of me (totally out of the blue) opined, "That's a nice watch!"... (Well, at least SOMEONE out there has refined taste!)
All the Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Nomos that have come and gone in my modest collection have never taken my Sinn556 ‘s crown of most loved watch. Even sitting next to the Tudor Black58 in the watchbox, the 556 is the one that sings to me. #Sinn556a 🙌🏻
I'm a designer and, indeed, I bought this watch as my first 'proper' watch for many of the reasons you list Peter. Number one, I am a big fan of modernist design and I love German design specifically. I find no watch brand at Sinn's price point (or even above for that matter) quite approaches Sinn's level of well thought out and timelessly designed dials. You'd have to jump to the IWC Mark or the Moonwatch to get something similarly on point design-wise... at 5 or 6 times the cost. Nearly every element is placed in JUST the right spot. Fonts, the style and length of the hands, and the length of the indices are all carefully considered on the 556A. It all just works in that simple, "boring" yet brilliant way as you point out. Whether you've been trained to pick up on these visual elements or it just 'feels right' to you - many watch lovers these days seem to be realising the silent brilliance of the 556 design. I also agree with you on the robust quality feel of the case and the watch as a whole. It feels overengineered and damn well indestructible. I'm personally a big fan of the Pilot watch aesthetic. There's just something about that simple, ultra clear and readable dial. It feels like the humble 556 is finally getting the recognition is deserves - especially the less talked about Arabic numbers version (556A). I bought mine in 2018 when there were very few RUclips videos about it. I almost talked myself out of it because it was so simple... glad I didn't. It has been a slowly building love affair since then. It's now my go-to, most worn watch. It's versatile and oh so satisfying to look at. Mine's been keeping an average +4 seconds a day measured in 4 positions on the timegrapher - a very respectable result in my opinion. In short, it's an amazing watch!
@@jermiazhang Also a good looking watch. The i achieves a more dressy look by being glossy black rather than matte. Also, it has greater simplicity with markers and hands only. The only text is the Sinn logo and the word Automatik. But this simplicity comes at a price (in my mind): there is more negative space on the dial. It looks like the hands are floating in a sea of black. The white markers run along the edge but there is a lot of black in the centre. This makes the dial look slightly bigger than on the 556A. By contrast, in the 556A the numbers take up more space on the dial, crowding it a little more and causing slightly less negative space. I prefer this look and find it a bit more balanced. I also happen to like numbers on watch dials - so that's personal preference too. The other difference between the 2 watches, of course, is the placement of the date window. On the i it's at 3 o'clock and on the A it's at 4:30. I don't mind the placement at 4:30 although I have to tell you the date is SO tiny it's almost useless to me (I am middle aged lol and my eyesight is not what it used to be). But at least it's subtle. Certainly the Sinn 556i is a stunner. Hope this has been helpful. I'd say go for the one that captures your heart more.
@@gentlmentlmngreat analysis, I might add that the 556A makes less noticeable the extremely short hands due to the less negative space. I had the 556i and changed It to the A only because of this, I could not stand those tiny hands, IMHO i think It is as if they were designed for the A diam
I love what you're doing with your watch review videos! The way you talk about not just the specs, the lume, etc. (like all the other watch reviewers), but also about the intangibles. The way watches make us feel. Great job! Thanks.
Hi, from Germany here.. Great you present a Sinn. Like the brand. Two downers: The bracelet (and clasp), and the price. 10, 20 years ago Sinn prices were moderate…. Cheers!
This is my first watch and thus the one that got me into watches. It's still my daily wear toolwatch. Bought it after my first €20.000+ job around give or take 15 years ago. I just delivered the finals to the agency and walked down the street, not really windowshopping but I was a man in bonis, when I saw that watch in the window. I knew nothing of watches but I had to have this one so I bought it. For exactly the reasons this video states. I knew nothing of watches but I do now. Thanks for this video Peter, it's so spot on.
Absolutely spot on, got the same watch but with the red seconds hand and it is never leaving the collection, it just has something about it, it's pure engineering excellence
The 556A has by far the best legibility of all my watches. I visited the Sinn factory in Frankfurt shortly after I bought the watch in 2018. Bang-for-buck wise, I think Sinn makes the best tool watches. Plus the best, super-informative catalogues! 👍
Love this video Pete. So refreshing. Boring can be beautiful. I been told my daily (Certina DS1 Chronometer, you've reviewed it) is monochrome and boring and that is just fine with me. For me, it's the perfect watch. Not everything has to be stand out unique or desperate for attention. It can be simple, strait forward, do the intended job and be beautifully boring. So nice to see someone else is with me on this. Cheers.
I love simple, pure design. There is a pleasing symmetry with this watch, love symmetry, very few watches have this, especially those with a date window!
Check out the Sinn 105 w/ a date-only complication at 6:00 🤤 I'm big on symmetery also, and that one is calling to me... But I got the 104 instead bc I like the dial and handset better. 556i RS is next. But here's to the symmetrical dials 🥂
I have the 556ib (indices in blue) and (for me) it’s beautiful and there’s nothing boring about it. In fact, it catches peoples’ eyes because of the remarkably clear crystal, the stunning blue dial, and the gorgeous applied indices. And yeah, it’s straightforward and simple but far from boring.
Peter this one in on my short list for sure. As much as I try to diversify my collection, I keep coming back to these versatile everyday watches. This one has it all, im a huge fan of the size, quality and this Explorer like aesthetic.
I’m pretty sure I’ve commented on this video before somewhere on the thread, but having watched this again, and having watched 100s likely 1000s of watch reviews - this is the best of the lot!
Sinn’s customer warranty is also excellent. My broken clasp was replaced no questions asked, shipping included. It’s nice to know they personally back up their products.
Fantastic video made by an obvious Sinn fan. I have the 556i. It feels sometimes chunky on the bracelet but it is compact. It is the quintessential Sinn. Its dimensions are in between a Tudor Black Bay 36 and Black Bay 41. So, if you wanted a high quality tool watch that isn't obviously copying another watch , this may be a nice choice.
Love it , support the Sinn brand and the quality of their timepieces. Solid and built like a tank. The 556 with the H-link as well as the 104 st. I also like 240 gz with the beautiful case and blue dial. I am definitely a fan of Sinn, simple, solid and done right. Thanks PK for expressing all of what I respect about the Sinn brand. Great video ! Hopefully I’ll be able to add a 556 to the collection while sticking to some sort of budget :)
It is not a divers-extension but a pilots jackets extension ;-) Great video and amazing watch. I own the 556 I RS with the red seconds hand. Love it. This little pop of color makes it so boringly interesting...
Thanks for the video. I also love my sinn 556i. I belive it is not a diver extension but a pilot extension! In old times pilot watches were on top of the clothing. (Revision - added a watches after pilot)
A few months ago my friend and I were talking about his super clone "Rolex" watch. The conversation turned to what my favourite watch is. So I grabbed the Sinn catalog (more like a book TBH) I happend to have. I showed him the 656 I have been lusting after. Later that evening I saw that I had ordered said catalog in 2007. I have been looking at that 656 for over 14 years... With the 656 being discontinued for some years and having the funds needed, I bought myself a 556A. No regrets whatsoever, what a brilliant watch. I love the high contrast dial/hands combination and the total lack of superfluous clutter. The date is there when you need it but it draws no attention to it. It's bold and very legible. Boring is good with this watch.
Beautiful. I don’t have a Sinn yet. I really like the large Arabic numerals and the subtle little date window. I do love German watches. I absolutely love my Laco. One day I’ll own a Sinn.
I was between this and the Damasko DS30. I went DS30 3 years ago but after adding a few more watches to my collection, here I am. Back wanting the 556a
I have a newly purchased 556i and it's an absolute beauty. Actually, although I own quite a few cool watches, this one get more attention than others. I do think that the glossy black dial and the perfect AR-coated crystal, makes it so attractive.
Thanks Peter , great video. I have a Daytona, I have an Explorer, but my favorite watch is my Sinn 856 with tegminet steel bracelet. Was 3 times on 6000m peaks - scratch-resistance par exelence.
I had the 656 the 556i the 856 utc the the 556a on finelink bracelet. They were all sold to acquire flashier watches but I keep coming back to Sinn. The 556A and 856 UTC are two of my all time favourites.
What do you think about the difference in size? I really love the shiny black dial of the 556i, but it could be a tiny bit bigger 😬 But I think, I really do prefer the looks of the brushed steel over the tegimented Matt finish of the bigger 856...
What a great start to my Sunday. Thanks Pete! Next year is a milestone birthday for me. This could be the one! Also eying off the Nivada Gretchen Super Antarctic in black.
Wow...I hope they were what you expected Stephen, I try my best to describe the watches in emotive detail as well as the technical aspects Enjoy them brother 👍
I'm really surprised they don't get more attention than they do I love most of thier designs and the quality goes without saying it just like your content Thanks for sharing My Friend 👍
You’d have to have absolutely f’ing rocks in your head if you would choose this Sinn over an Explorer. Those two watches are leagues apart. The movement and bracelet are far superior on the Rolex.
Good evening, really a superb watch. I felt the exact same thing when I put my first Sinn on my hand. Peter, you managed very well to convey in the video what you feel. All the best!
Just bought the exact model used for 900$ at that price i feel like its a good deal, on the bracelet too. Just couldnt pass up that deal, since ive been drooling over Sinn for the longest time.
That’s why I like my Movado Luno Sport, The most simple time teller doesn’t even have a second hand. After my Fitbit blaze craziness and insanity, I was relieved to get it, just simple.
Movado Luno Sport might be beautiful stylishly, but it is not a good watch functionally. It has no indices, little to none water resistance, and has a quartz watch movement, and not to mention a horrible price tag. Thanks for mentioning it, it reminded us not to buy this movado watch in any given circumtances. Might be a harsh comment here but i have watched enough of Peter’s videos to understand what feature is still necessary in a watch. Do enjoy wearing it in great health.
@@erwinl1007 oh spare me! You think this is my only watch? Takes about three days to learn how to read a Movado watch. Anyone with half a brain can do it and that includes you. I don’t need some condescending watch snob telling me what I should buy, It’s subjective so don’t go around telling other people what to do! I don’t go around telling you what kind of car to buy or what to name your kids. I saw your list of favourite watches and for your information there’s other types of watches that are not all dive watches, they all have a purpose. So don’t be so single minded. So basically don’t be a troll dissing somebody’s opinion or choice and then apologize thinking that makes it OK, And then you hide behind the fact you “learned enough from Peter” to know what a good watch is. I don’t think Peter would recommend going around dissing on other peoples watch choice purchases in here!! I have heard him say 1 million times the word “subjective.” So you are not the be-all end all. “Functionally,” it has been flawless. Just because YOU need hour markers to help you figure out the time doesn’t mean other people can’t read it, it’s the cleanest dial known to man. “Oh I’m so sorry to be harsh but that’s my opinion” “No video content” created by you, yeah that tells me everything. If you want to fight so bad go to Ukraine or become a politician. I would never pay full retail on a $1050 watch Cdn price! But THANK YOU for being so CONCERNED ABOUT MY FINANCES! So if you don’t know something, don’t speculate and diss man not cool. OH NO ITS A QUARTZ WATCH!!!!! I wanted a quartz for a quick “grab and go” but you never bothered to ask me about that did you!? When I want your opinion I will give it to you.
Thank you for your excellent and intelligent review. I own the 556a with the bracelet, too. I debated getting the 556i, which I also like, but this was the look I wanted. The satinized finish gives the watch a toolish, yet attractive quality, and it fits great on my 6 1/2 inch wrist. Importantly, it keeps great time, too, approx +3 per day. As for the small date, I know where to find it, and I find it when I need it. I like that it doesn't dominate the dial. Also, as you said, the legibility is among the best to be found, and that's important to me. The 556 series (and other Sinns) are very well built watches, so it would be hard to go wrong with whichever Sinn one might choose.
It's great fun hearing you talk about this so passionately. This time, with respect and appreciation for all your arguments, especially the things regarding the industrial aesthetic, reliability, utility and practicality, for me, as a graphical design piece, it is mainly just big and brash. And because there is little visual appeal on the dial and the emphasised all-metal look is rather monothetic in its continuous satin surface, I'll also grant you the boring! In fact the diminutive date is one of the more interesting things about it, but I don't find it effective or appealing. You refer to the chocolate dial Sinn, and on that model I am convinced of the utilitarian elegance. Most of all though, my remarks here just reveal that where I appreciate sports watches, I always sit on the dressier side of the fence. I'm not sure if I'd ever be in a situation where I feel that need my watch to be that much of a tool.
@@benjaminvis absolutely, thats the beauty fo this hobby. I am open to hearing others perspectives. It's not only educating and informative but also beneficial for others as well. Cheers
I have this watch and love almost everything about it. If I had to knit pick I feel like the print of the date is off center to the left from the window.
Wow great review Peter. I'm not really into military / field type watches, but this sinn looks fab on you. I think the bracelet design really makes this piece stand out. It oozes quality and refinement. Although it's vintage in style , it still looks modern , if that makes sense. Nice watch !!!
@@tonyxxx9463 I'm looking forward to receiving it, it'll be my first Sinn in collection. Congrats on yours as well! Have you had for awhile and no issues?
I like the dial styling but I never noticed the 430 date window before and I love a 430 date since it doesn't take away an hour marker. I also have a similar wrist size and love the 39mm give or take size depending on the lug to lug
Peter, very passionate review. I prefer the blue dial version, not for the colour but for the applied indices which gives the dial more depth versus the printed indices on the black dial. The cost of this watch with printed indices should be lower imho.
Appreciate the honest insight Peter. I know what you mean about the "boring" aspect. I own the 105 UTC and I love it. It's not going to light the world on fire but it does the job it's designed to do and does so without any flair.
Peter … excellent video again. Watching it today while wearing my 556i (coincidence that it came up to bat on the day I’m watching your vid). Your assessment of your piece and Sinn, in general, is spot on. I own a 104, U50 & U1 SE as well, and don’t know which of these is my favorite but am aware that while they all bring something different to the table … their DNA is the same. I will be chopping my collection hopefully in half very soon to find more wrist time for my Sinn’s (and other preferred German-made watches). In fact … all of my Sinn’s, Damasko’s, Nomos’, Stowa’s and Muhle Glasshutte … are staying put!!!
I've got two 556, the Mother of Pearl and the blue, and they are perfect daily, I love them, they are like jewels and competing easy with my other much more expensive watches. Unlike you, Peter, I don't like the H links bracelet, I find it too brutal, but i admit that your 556A fits better on this bracelet. Thus, I suggest you'd give a try on a rugged NATO strap, it's giving a new dimension to this model.
You’re up early for a Sunday Pete! This piece reminds me of the gauges on the classic Mercedes-Benz my old man used to collect. I've actually never been hands-on with Sinn, but that association makes me think no frills efficient quality and has put the 103 Chronograph on a pretty short 'will one day own' list.
Yeah for some reason I have been getting up early for the past few weeks..maybe my inner time clock has changed..whatever the case, time for a coffee 😊 PS love the gauges of those old Merc's..timeless Cheers Anthony, have a nice Sunday

@@anthonysmith2982 Hey bud, I remember what you told me and it's exactly what I thought was the reason for the radio silence mate. Can't wait to learn more. Likewise, I have lots of news as well regarding my watch collection 😁
I agree, beautiful. I'd prefer it a bit larger, but no watch is perfect as you say. Your reviews are quite interesting and different and you're in great form in this one. Kudos.
You say it so well mate. Beautiful simplicity in that one. Not really bothered about the luminescence. Since I purchased the opposite end of the spectrum in my Ball Engineer Marvelite Caring Edition everything else fades into insignificance…
I have the 556i RS. I like it better without the arabics. Added bonus is that the date is in a better position. The RS means it has a red second hand, and that is just the touch it needs to make it not-boring.
Well said and felt. I've owned 2 of the same Sinn 104i white dial. I keep thinking I will open another 104. I think besides your Sinn model family you presented here, if you could go with an extra feature such as a timing bezel, the 104 and U50 are excellent, as well, to be that easy to read purpose built tool watch. They are both 41mm, but they wear surprisingly smaller than started dimensions and does it very well. I do have a Sinn and it's that 103 Klassik 12 you featured on your channel not that long ago. It's a bit more beastly in scale compared to the other watches I've mentioned. But, it wears better than thickness dimensions may indicate. And, it definitely makes me feel like I have a handsome quality chronograph from Sinn.
One of my favourite watches I don’t own…yet! 🤣 The only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on this piece is, it’s so close in looks to my Rolex Explorer 36mm. But I’m sure I’ll end up getting one in the near future. For me you hit the nail squarely on the head with this review. I totally agree it’s a boring watch, not unlike my Explorer to be honest. But simple and boring can also be beautiful. Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧
I currently own a 556a and it's absolutely one of my favourite watches. The case finishing, case dimensions, plain dial and perfectly disguised date window are executed perfectly. It's also the only watch that has ever been noticed on my wrist. The clasp on the bracelet is probably the only downside. Sinn know how to make great watches.
As another proud 556a owner i totally agree with all the feelings you've described. But would disagree about the lume not long lasting: the deep black background compensates for not the brightest lume. So C1-lume turned out to be not as big of a problem, as i initially thought. It easily lasted though the darkest nights and even the dimmest moonlight is plenty enough to distinguish the sterile white markers and all three hands. Perhaps this watch would only benefit, if the second hand was coated like Stowa and Laco fliegers tend to have... I've seen some Sinn enthusiasts modded their 556's that way.
Agree with everything you said! I've owned one for a couple of years and it's perfect. I find it's one of those rare watches that you might not be able to understand it's appeal until you have it in hand and try it on. I also have just finally got my hands on the new 2021 Speedmaster and was planning on selling the 556a to put the funds towards that.....but I find myself unable to let go of the Sinn, and might even enjoy wearing that a tad more than the Speedie. What is going on!? Ps. Without a bezel, 38.5mm is the ultimate size for a sports watch
I was just about to put this on the chopping board, as brutally perfect a tool as it is, the boring nature of it I found slightly soulless. Listening to you talk about it has actually enlivened the benefits in the piece.
I’m torn between this and the 556i. I still have to save up so I have a couple of months to decide but it is a tough one. I’ve also been considering the Damasko DS30, the formex 39, and Oris pro pilot 41 but I’m always drawn back to Sinn
Outstanding content - that’s how a watch should be reviewed, with a personal touch. It’s such a subjective hobby that approaching reviews subjectively makes total sense. As a brief aside - it’s not a divers extension, but rather a flight suit extension. I’ve used the extension on mine (556i on h-Link) to pop it over my jacket sleeve when hiking in cold temps. Saves using a nato which I’m not a massive fan of.
I Love my Sinn ,it is built like a tank and has perfect dimensions . There is one exception … the clasp does not go with bracelet it’s to thick and large . The clasp if a trade off for an otherwise excellent watch
I find the "1" on the "2" a fraction too thin. Now that I see that, I can't unsee it. Anyway, this is the current generation's Rolex Explorer (not the Explorer II GMT but the original). Without a doubt.
I think you nailed it with this one, a simple but well executed watch is the "perfect" watch for daily use. I personally went with Damasko DS30 rather than Sinn 556i(it was a tough decision), for essentially the same reasons you mentioned for the 556a.
Thanks Peter. I'm a relative newbie, except ... for my 50th in 2013 I brought my first nice watch a Sinn 356 with a bronze dial. I love that watch and for some unknown, and apparently shared reasons, I ... like you, ... have an affinity for Sinn. I am a pilot, so I tend towards the GMT/UTC function. I already have a clever and very functional Longines Conquest VHP GMT for the that purpose, ... although thinking of swapping that out for a GS SBGN005. Sorry, ... distracted. Back to the Sinn. I was considered the 856 UTC, ... but I keep coming back to the simplicity and everyday use of this 556. Perhaps a GMT/UTC and the 556 as an everyday? That's rhetorical. For me, ... unlike you, ... I dislike metal bracelets, so will most likely go with a black leather strap. 1. Should I purchase a 556 with the bracelet for possible resale considerations? 2. Red second hand or not? Does it reduce the magnificent simplicity you refer to? Maybe, ... although I do love red and black. Thanks. Love your work. Current watches: Sinn 356 Bronze dial Longines Conquest VHP GMT Rolex Explorer II (replica) Alpina Alpiner GMT Considering: Sinn 556 A Grand Seiko SBGN005 Grand Seiko SBGM221

Been loving mine for the past two years.
I have the 556i, used it for the last year took it to Greece on a tropical, but I love the bracelet and it is the perfect everyday tool watch !

Haha Thanks David 🙏
Simple and pure, a no frills watch that never make people turning head but singing in your heart 💜.
I owned this exact watch and gave it to my son. I just hope he stumbles across this video at some point..
I have the 856 And it’s my after work, weekend tool watch. I love it!!
Sinn’s customer warranty is also excellent. My broken clasp was replaced no questions asked, shipping included. It’s nice to know they personally back up their products.
Very nice Sinn, Peter, I didn't even see the date window until you mentioned it.
I bought one last summer directly at Sinn Headquarters in Frankfurt. It is very legible, high quality and accurate. Love it!
Solid
and built like a tank.
Im sure anyone you choose will be a delight 👍
This watch is one of the greatest for swapping straps. Looks great on suede, nato, dress leather, etc
That divers extension is there as people may wear over gloves, in some manufacture processes or industrial settings.
😂
It is not a divers-extension but a pilots jackets extension ;-) Great video and amazing watch. I own the 556 I RS with the red seconds hand. Love it. This little pop of color makes it so boringly interesting...
Thanks for the video. I also love my sinn 556i.
I belive it is not a diver extension but a pilot extension! In old times pilot watches were on top of the clothing.
(Revision - added a watches after pilot)
That makes sense about the extension..thanks for sharing David
cheers
Such a great review of this watch. Really didn't want to subscribe to another watch tok as it's taken over my algorithm but you earned it
Welcome to the channel
Back wanting the 556a
One of my must/will-have-buy-eventually watches. That avionics instrument look just resonates with me. If only it had on-the-fly micro adjustments…
Nothing wrong with the 856, very cool and well made
Enjoy 👍
I had the 656 the 556i the 856 utc the the 556a on finelink bracelet. They were all sold to acquire flashier watches but I keep coming back to Sinn. The 556A and 856 UTC are two of my all time favourites.
What do you think about the difference in size?
I really love the shiny black dial of the 556i, but it could be a tiny bit bigger 😬
But I think, I really do prefer the looks of the brushed steel over the tegimented Matt finish of the bigger 856...
High-qualitative review as always, thank for that Peter!
Cheers Erik
What a great start to my Sunday. Thanks Pete! Next year is a milestone birthday for me. This could be the one! Also eying off the Nivada Gretchen Super Antarctic in black.
I have bought 4 watches you beautifully presented on your channel.. Thanks Peter.
Wow...I hope they were what you expected Stephen, I try my best to describe the watches in emotive detail as well as the technical aspects
Enjoy them brother 👍
@@PeterKotsa i do and enjoy the emotional level of your descriptions. The Sinn is one of those.
I'm really surprised they don't get more attention than they do I love most of thier designs and the quality goes without saying it just like your content Thanks for sharing My Friend 👍
I would definitely choose this over an explorer. At least it wouldn't be covered in scratches after a couple of months .
Not to mention the $10K savings.
“Oh I’m so sorry to be harsh but that’s my opinion”
“No video content” created by you, yeah that tells me everything.
Many of your descriptions also apply to my favorite Eichi II. I still almost wear it everyday even after 2.5 years.
👍
Great pure aesthetics. Love this Sinn. Clean, simple yet beautiful (at least for me) 😍
As always a great video, and yes Peter the Sinn 556 is an amazing watch.
Thanks for elaborating Benjamin 👍
@@PeterKotsa I'm glad you take it in the good spirit in which it was intended!
@@benjaminvis absolutely, thats the beauty fo this hobby. I am open to hearing others perspectives.
It's not only educating and informative but also beneficial for others as well.
Cheers
Peter- all dial watch is a very good saying, and clean - so reduced. Get going 🚀
The diver extension is actually a plus for us with huge hands and small wrists. Helps getting it on and off. Love it on mine.
True, never saw it that way 👍
I have this watch and love almost everything about it.
Nice watch !!!
cheers Martin
Have the 556i rs coming next week. Love the 104 A as well but prefer the case finish on the 556 line. Cheers!
@@tonyxxx9463
I'm looking forward to receiving it, it'll be my first Sinn in collection. Congrats on yours as well! Have you had for awhile and no issues?
I loved my 104 St Sa I and gave it some well love, 556A made me itch so badly for couple of months, i want it.
@@tonyxxx9463 good to know , thanks 👍
Remove the date function and it will be a fine tool watch. Thank you for a fine, informative review
I like the dial styling but I never noticed the 430 date window before and I love a 430 date since it doesn't take away an hour marker. I also have a similar wrist size and love the 39mm give or take size depending on the lug to lug
Love my Sinn 356, but this one is on my radar.
Peter, very passionate review. I prefer the blue dial version, not for the colour but for the applied indices which gives the dial more depth versus the printed indices on the black dial. The cost of this watch with printed indices should be lower imho.
Couldn’t agree more with every observation and comment! Kudos!
👍
Appreciate the honest insight Peter. I know what you mean about the "boring" aspect. I own the 105 UTC and I love it. It's not going to light the world on fire but it does the job it's designed to do and does so without any flair.
Very true Jason, well said
Peter … excellent video again.
You're right you know. It's boring and not exactly my style. But there's something about this one! ...Great video!
Yeah for some reason I have been getting up early for the past few weeks..maybe my inner time clock has changed..whatever the case, time for a coffee 😊
PS love the gauges of those old Merc's..timeless
Cheers Anthony, have a nice Sunday

Me too Pete… I‘ve been up before 6 most mornings. It's good to have the house to myself for a while before the crazies all get up!!
Kudos.
Cheers Marcelo
Awesome! Def a one watch collection 👍
Regards,
Dazza.
It's amazing how somebody else's opinion can sometimes change your own
Good video. I have been thinking about getting the 556 sterile dial.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. 👍👊🏼
I love simple watches … boring or not 🙂👍🏻
Thanks for sharing.
the berny version is great too
5:20 It can be for gloves, not just a diver extension.
I could buy one of those. It’s actually really nice.
Been wearing mine all week Peter.
Boringly beautiful indeed 👌
Love it on the five link bracelet!
Really beautiful. Wish Sinn created a new, micro adjustable clasp though
Ivs owned the U50 and 104 st sa. Ive eyed this over ths years, especially the I RS, but never pulled the trigger.
I’m torn between this and the 556i. I still have to save up so I have a couple of months to decide but it is a tough one. I’ve also been considering the Damasko DS30, the formex 39, and Oris pro pilot 41 but I’m always drawn back to Sinn
This model is sportier and more casual. The I model is a bit more dressy
I am torn between 556A and 556I as well, did you pick one ?
Wich one did you Pick?
What a great toolwatch from Germany. Enjoy.
Cheers Tobias
Outstanding content - that’s how a watch should be reviewed, with a personal touch. It’s such a subjective hobby that approaching reviews subjectively makes total sense. As a brief aside - it’s not a divers extension, but rather a flight suit extension. I’ve used the extension on mine (556i on h-Link) to pop it over my jacket sleeve when hiking in cold temps. Saves using a nato which I’m not a massive fan of.
🙏
I Love my Sinn ,it is built like a tank and has perfect dimensions . There is one exception … the clasp does not go with bracelet it’s to thick and large . The clasp if a trade off for an otherwise excellent watch
Funny things is I'm a strap guy too and I'm looking at this watch for one that I'll wear with a bracelet.
I find the "1" on the "2" a fraction too thin. Now that I see that, I can't unsee it. Anyway, this is the current generation's Rolex Explorer (not the Explorer II GMT but the original). Without a doubt.
Great review, I'm looking at one of these, cant decide between this one, the 556i RS or the 104 I HELP!
Good choice!..best of luck choosing 😊
I think you nailed it with this one, a simple but well executed watch is the "perfect" watch for daily use. I personally went with Damasko DS30 rather than Sinn 556i(it was a tough decision), for essentially the same reasons you mentioned for the 556a.
Can't go wrong with either Kristian, that Damasko is a killer watch, enjoy !!
I like this, and the bracelet looks great, but as an everyday watch I must have some on the fly adjustment, not a silly dive extension.
i prefer this watch with a dark leather strap and its also looks stunning
Current watches:
Sinn 356 Bronze dial
Longines Conquest VHP GMT
Rolex Explorer II (replica)
Alpina Alpiner GMT
Considering:
Sinn 556 A
Grand Seiko SBGN005
Grand Seiko SBGM221
A friend of mine has the 556 with the red seconds hand and loves it. The date on that model is also slightly bigger than mine, albeit it doesn't have arabics
At the end of the day, aesthetics are a personal choice YOU need to decide on
Cheers
