- Here's an edition of the classic BBC game show Wipeout, presented by Paul Daniels. This edition comes from the first series from 1994. This was recorded from the Challenge repeats which unfortunately featured quite a lot of cuts to the original half hour show to fit in the ad breaks. Better than nothing I guess!
This needs to come back. Loved this
I agree. Not a bad quiz show. The jokey prizes are different
Loved Wipeout really wish they would bring this back.Used to watch this with my mum & we both loved it.RIP Paul Daniels ♥️
Aww thanks for this! I may not have been alive in 1994 but that doesn't stop me going back and checking these episodes out. Love this show a lot, whether it be this version or Bob Monkhouse's version. :)
I enjoyed watching this Classic BBC TV Programme alot when I was a kid and Paul Daniels is one of my top favourite TV Superstars growing up.
RIP Paul Daniels
I remember watching this in 94/95 eating McVities Gems from Tesco, at the age of 4/5. Even to this day, the wipeout sound fills me with this dread by nostalgic feeling, absolutely love it!
God you can tell these Challenge versions have been edited to within an inch of their life.
Such a shame Paul Daniels is not with us anymore
Cool video, sends kind of nostalgic vibes
The voiceover artist is Kara Noble, who was at the time a co-presenter on Capital FM's radio breakfast show.
Love The Gyroscope Effect With The Wipeout Logo
Wow this takes me back
20:59 "You've got a minute to win it it's not a lot of time, but you can still do it and remember every second counts ! "
Aw man, to get a clean cut of the endgame music...
Loved this show
A simple game concept but fun to watch and play as well, I would imagine. Paul did a fine job with this first iteration of the show
i wish they would bring this back
0:17 Please welcome your host on Wipeout, Paul Daniels!

Classic tv
That guy winning a frankfurter, GOLD
As Michael Rosen would say......"Noice! :B" LOL
Australia has it own version, but it was a children show
The US also had it with Peter tomarken where it originated from
21:53 "What have you got you've won the lot ! "
Also they removed the quick fire buzzers for no reason?
bbc bring it back

Looks somewhat like the 1989 USA version with former Press Your Luck host Peter Tomarken.
Another game show that flopped here in the US, but was a big hit across the pond, much like Catchphrase, Strike it Lucky/Rich and Every Second Counts.
No acknowledgement in the credits that this was based on America's Wipeout from 1988?
For me, this was the superior version of Wipeout. Fast and furious, right to the point and with some awesome sound and visuals. The Bob Monkhouse version was more sluggish. Actually, to be fair, it did give you a better chance to play along at home. The whizzy Paul Daniels version made it difficult to get a good look at the board and have a think. But the most annoying thing I found with the Bob Monkhouse version, and I'm sorry to criticise the master, was that he would always pre-empt the board and virtually tell you whether the answer was right or wrong, before it was actually revealed. It took away the suspense of the Wipeouts.
This exactly.
It feels so wrong to ever suggest that the Bob Monkhouse version of anything isn’t the definitive version, but when it comes to Wipeout the later version is inferior in pretty much every respect.
The only thing that was a slight improvement was the endgame, with the buttons being on the screens themselves rather then that white panel that some contestants never seemed to really understand.
But otherwise it’s like the whole production team made a decision to make it as boring as possible.
It seems fast and furious but perhaps it's because these Challenge TV versions have been edited to within an inch of their life - originally on BBC1 they would have run to about 27-28 minutes, but on Challenge they needed time for an ad-break, hence why it's down to 22:50.
