This makes even more sense when you consider that you're fighting him inside the planet, yet somehow you're all suspended in a kaleidoscope sky void.

I remember reading somewhere that Supernova is essentially the same as the summons, a type of magical illusion that imposes itself on reality so completely that it can effect the material world. Should this happen, and I'm considering the possibility that the remake actually gets completed, it will probably be like a countdown. If we don't take down Safer Sephiroth within a time limit, the blast will TPK and bring a game over screen. Being optimistic, past certain time brackets, the Super Nova animations would happen, so it would build up tension for the newcomers and bring up nostalgia for those who have seen the attack before. But of course, it won't happen. I don't know a single episodic game that got to the end.
The Japanese one is him creating a big exploration in space. This is the intentional animation. That's why I always dismiss it when people try to power scale sephy to characters like Kefka or Ultimecia.

Supernova takes you down to critical health, as well as casting essentially every status effect on you randomly when it hits. Depending on your protection, you can end up a frog, while confused, petrified, and slowed down, etc.
I use him as my cover/counter meatshield. I now know that other characters like Barrett have more defensive stats, but I don't care. This is my first playthrough of FF7, I've grown attatched to him, and I'm using him against Sephiroth now.

There should have been a timer on this boss fight and then he uses Supernova when it reaches 0. Taking not just a Life Energy of your planet but also the Sun and every other planet in system.
The entire second half of the game is the world under threat of Meteor but a spell that Destroys the entire solar system with a comet, including the sun somehow has a minimal effect on the players and the planet.

That attack really should've been a FFX Giga Graviton situation, in that basically you are dead once he casted it, but the very long animation was just rubbing salt into the wound, it would've avoided the pretty dumb situation of him casting it multiple times and forcing you to sit through the heat death of the Universe in length just to play the game again.
You have high def models and texture moving like early 3D animation, it's just jarring. And good lord, that heavy meatl one-winged angel, somebody has to have a talk with you.
Sephiroth basically has the same type of attack as Saint Seiya's Galaxian Explosion done by Gemini Saga, and Tezuka's dinosaur extinction move from Prince of Tennis, only on a larger scale :p
