I was at this concert too. I was only 11 years old with my sister who was 20. I’d like to thank the people around us that day who insisted I be taken over the barriers before the concert even began. I cannot remember much, but I was worried about how I was going to find my sister after the concert. RIP Bernadette, I remember your name to this day, RIP David 🙏🏼

I was at the White City Concert as well, I wasn’t in the grass area. Her parents never blamed David and they were the most wonderful people to meet. I met Bernadette’s parents a year after she’s passed.

Oh wow Catherine. That's awesome that you were at that concert. I'd love to hear more about your experience. How were you able to meet Bernadette's parents? I do a tribute event every April. It would be lovely to have you join virtually and share your story with other fans.

I was at that concert. In the front where the crush happened. So many bodies with no seating or barriers - the crowd went crazy as David came on stage, impossible to control where your body went - I was at a 30° angle to the floor with both feet off it just in a crush of swaying bodies. So frightening - I still can’t be in a crowd to this day without a panic attack. Lost my shoe and friend. Managed to fight my way out to the side - knew I would not survive if I didn’t get out of the crowd. Poor David, the fault lay with the organisers - should’ve been seating or barriers to control the crowd. RIP Bernadette & David. 💙

I was there too, pulled over the barrier and walked around the white wall to the back and sat on the grass and watched him. The stage was 20ft high. A day to remember. XX Bless them RIP...

This accident affected DC so closely that it had a lasting impact on him and he decied to quitt with all the hype and the so-called "Cassidymania" only a little later . Respect for that! RIP for Bernadette and for DC.

I was at David's Glasgow concert, travelled down to London the next day and went to White City the following. There were problems with crowd control before and during the show and if you listen to the 'Cassidy Live' album, you can hear David shouting " Push back" a couple of times during a song. He said that he really wanted to attend young Bernadette's funeral but he spoke with her parents and decided to stay away, as he didn't want it turned into a circus. David never got over her death.

David was literally inconsolable when he got home. He just wanted to be left alone, locked away in his room in the dark for days at end. All we could do was give him his space and be there for him when he was ready. When he did come out, we retreated to Hawaii for a good long rest and reevaluation of what he wanted to do. He started drinking and didn't sing again for 11 years. Then he wanted to get sober and went through rehab and spent 5 years in therapy. He was a good man 💕

I still can't bear to watch this all these years' later, it absolutely broke my heart at the time to see this interview with David, naturally, so upset about this tragedy. He went to sing songs at a concert and make people happy, he certainly couldn't have imagined such a thing happening. It was those who had arranged and managed the event who were responsible for the safety of everyone. David never fully got over this event (this was obvious in his behaviour at concerts in later years). I was in that crowd at White City that night and you can only know what it was like if you were there, so difficult to describe the atmosphere. For myself I was distraught as I thought this would be the last time I would ever see David, the love of my life as he had announced his retirement a couple of days beforehand. It was a scorching hot day, warm evening, (thinking about it, none of us had had anything to eat or drink for hours, so a mix of dehydration, heatstroke, emotion for David who was incredible and so sexy, no, he was more than that, but it was such an incredible, intense experience. We could never have imagined his story would end so tragically. David will always be in my heart.

Wow Christine, so awesome you were there to experience that memorable day in David's life. I know there aren't words to describe it fully. Did you take pictures. I'd love to see them. So sad for him he had to carry that agony of someone dying because they came to see him perform.

I was also at the Manchester Concert on the 28th May 1974, and the crowd control was bad, myself and three friends had to get over this huge wall to safety, police told fans to push back but there were too many fans in the car park already.we traveled down from London.
