ronnie died today 16 august peace be with you ronnie you legend the ballad of ronnie drew sung on the late late show a lovely ballad to a legend of a man
This may be 8 years too late but Shane sang 'what's it to any man, whether or no, whether I'm easy or whether I'm true, as I lifted her petticoat easy and slow, and I tied up my sleeve for to buckle her shoe'
when i was 12 i went to see ronnie drew with my dad to a small gig,, only 50 people, , i was the only kid there and he sang a song for me :) i will never forget it and was so upset the day he died , , RIP ronnie drew , , i will miss you!!! xxx
i will never forget what ronnie and the DUBLINERS did in 1970. at the height of the 'TROUBLES' in belfast they came and played a free concert on the falls rd. i wll always remember the stage was scaffold and planks fom a local builder. after they came out of charlie gormleys pub ( 5 HOURS) they put on a great show. like to see u-2 do that. god bless ronnie and good night.
Ronnie Drew is the reason I listen to so much Irish music. He has such a rich deep voice that it captivates you right when you hear it, heres to you Ronnie Drew!
Seeing John, Barney, Eamon....I miss the dubs.........Ronnie and Luke.......tears, the voices of Ireland in the traditional way. Your ridiculous raw voice is missed Ronnie, see you in the fiddlers green I hope . I bring my pipes and you bring your friends and beard!:)
I like this song...because is for a great MAN that lived for music...and what Music...I love Ireland and Irish music...I know all the dubliners song and I play that with my guitar... this is a nice modern ballad...listen up and don't complain about who is singin and how...they are singin for ONE great person I loved his voice...and still do
oh yes i soooo agree with ye he was the best he os related to my dad and he was a great man i loved him i remember him singing to me when i was a child he touched my heart and i so loved his DUBLIN...Ronnie you will sooooo be missed love you R.I.P
It brought more tears to my eyes than I would care to admit, that it took me nearly 13 years to find it is a little embarrasing.. The only way they could make it MORE sentimental than watching the faces, was to have Shane sing those last words. The guy is incredible and such class.
It is a characteristic of the Irish to get drunk and sing songs of their homeland wherever they are, and the Dubliners are a true symbol of this. The sight of these eminent faces happily gathered together to mourn is also a symbol of the Irish people.
Ronnie Drew a true Dubliner a true legend Irish music shall never be the same again. I grew up listening to him and shed more than one tear when he died but he shall never be forgotten! As another legend put it "Ronnie has left his earthly tour for one of the heavens... they need him up there... it's a little too quiet and pious." Bono
Only found out Ronnie is no more ... and am well sad ... God bless you fella ... you bought laughter to my face ... and tears to my eyes with your voice ... Rest In Peace man
I love this song, full of inpiration for a great irish man, the selected voices are awesome it demonstrates how love and respect feel the irish musicians and irish people to Ronnie Drew blessed be. Regards from Bolivia
These musicians singing this on the Late Late! Only an Irish person would understand how awesome this is! The tingling you get from watching this, THAT'S WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE IRISH! Damn Proud!
There`ll never be another entertainer like Ronnie Drew. He is the soul of Dublin City. I met Ronnie a few times including a chat in his home at Greystones, County Wicklow. Ronnie will be missed by fans of The Dubliners and by all fans of Irish music. I`ll drink a toast to you Ronnie the next time I`m in O`Donoghues.
Here's to the Ronnie, the voice we adore Like coals from a coal-bucket Scraping the floor Sing out his praises in music and march And if you are not Irish That isn't your fault Raise up our voices like dogs in a pack Thankful for honest man, we never lack We got them by twenties, we got them by ones Them and their daughters And all of their sons Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey) Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey) Ronnie Drew (Hey! Ar Dheis De go raibh a Anam. God bless Ronnie, thanks for the wonderful music. I'm sure you're taking your seat beside Luke in the great O'Donoghue's in the sky. Have a pint for us..
As young bloke with an irish dad and many an irish uncle, cousin and aunties. I grew up listening to many an irish song by the Dubliners, Irish Rovers and it sad to see internationally and with within Dublin many bars/pubs using DJ when they should have bands. To the Dubliners your part of history that we all sadly miss and unsure how to get back.. Your memories will live in to all those who have gone and newest departure of Barney Mckenna RIP...
Ronnie Drew attended this. You can see him at 5:47 He's the one in the scarf. He lost his hair from the Kemo and looks nothing like himself. RIP Ronnie Drew
when i was12 i went to see a small gig with my dad and ronnie drew sang my favorite song for me weila weila waila because i was the only kid at the show, amazing experience that i will never forget! your sadly missed!! :(

The King Of Folk Music is dead. He died at the same day as Elvis. R.I.P. Ronnie Drew, we´ll never forget you. Enjoy the heaven there together with your wife, Luke, Ciarán and - Elvis... My prayers are with his family... BK (Germany)
strike up the music, the more we sing....and understand....Ronnie Drew gave the world so much. I love irish music and know of many in Canada who do love it also. Ronnie made it so, the message that gives peace to the world, the performance that speaks volumes of goodness!
I'm not a big Dubliners fan but i'll never forget Ronnie Drew's voice in the Pogues/Dubliners,Irish Rover back in the eighties and recently the Dropkick Murpheys, Flannigan's Ball. He had such a distinctive voice.
musicians like Ronnie Drew will never truly dei alsong as people listen to and enjoy their music, which will be forever if I have any say in it. God Bless you Ronnie, we will miss you
Goodbye Ronnie, and I'm glad you can finally see Deidre again. I pray you watch over all of Ireland's children, at home and abroad, and help us all as your music helped me through hard times. Good Bye Ronnie, King of Ireland.
I don't necessarily like Bono more than the next guy, but the fakt of the matter is that he's making a tribute for a man he likes and respects and i take my hat off for that (R.I.P. Ronnie)
Very few people admit they know nothing about a subject, then offer an opinion anyway. Bono/U2 wrote the Ballad of Ronnie Drew. Drew was in the audience of the Late Late Show that night; all of the musicians were emotional. Bono is a brilliant lyricist, frontman of the greatest rock band ever and a monumental humanitarian. To pick on a man like that, particularly on a tribute video/song, is poor taste at best and just plain ugly at worst. "Ronnie Drew" is on the U2 CD "Duals." Bless U2 & Eire!
Rest in peace good ol' Ronnie. You were the greatest irish singer in the whole world! Slainte, for the last time. And slainte to you all too...Tonight,as I did yesterday, lift your glasses in the air yelling only one thing "TO RONNIE DREW!"
i love the dubliners.. the greatest band in the world.. I was 14 when i first heard Dirty Old Town and now i am 23 and i am a really big fan of the dubliners and damn proud of it
shane mcgowen.. didnt understand a word he said but god i love that man :)
Im amazed hes even alive after all the drink and drugs he was on for years
This may be 8 years too late but Shane sang 'what's it to any man, whether or no, whether I'm easy or whether I'm true, as I lifted her petticoat easy and slow, and I tied up my sleeve for to buckle her shoe'
RIP. Came hear soon after hearing the news.

That must've been some gig. Would like to hear more of people's reminiscences about this.
i love how they ended it with Shane... class act... he is by far the best among them, and the closest to ronnie
And the dubs
Hi, I am a 15 Year old boy, but i must say that ronnie drew is for me one of the best singers at world.
Rest in Piece Ronnie

So pleased to know there is a ballad to Ronnie Drew: he dod so much to spread the music. Love you, Ronnie.
Shane really showed respect for Ronnie when he took of his hat
Shane and Ronnie were very close since they met in 1985
Shane is a living legend!
Shane McGowan kicks ass!! I didn't understand a word either but I understood the general vibe!!!
every life comes to an end - beggar or king!
Ronnie made people happy with his and for that alone thank you.

No Better choice
“Wherever he’s going, we’re wishing him well.” Beautiful stuff.
I had hoped that he would recover. He was truly the greatest traditional Irish singer who ever lived. R.I.P Ronnie Drew.
It is a characteristic of the Irish to get drunk and sing songs of their homeland wherever they are, and the Dubliners are a true symbol of this. The sight of these eminent faces happily gathered together to mourn is also a symbol of the Irish people.
The fear in everyone's face that Shane is going to miss his lines and then the relief when he nails them is classic. RIP Ronnie.
And now RIP Shane.
No way Shane was gonna mess that up, he had too much respect for Ronnie
great tribute song to a legend,i think bono and shane both put their heart and soul in it,why do some people have to hate everything.
Shane,legend...R.I.P. Ronnie,the great irish soul...Here's to you!
Thank you for everything Ronnie, love your Irish spirit. You'll never bee forgotten and may your music and great spirit live on forever!

As another legend put it "Ronnie has left his earthly tour for one of the heavens... they need him up there... it's a little too quiet and pious." Bono
Whats the difference between god and bono?
You never see god walkin the streets of dublin pretending to be bono
So you do see Bono walking the streets of Dublin pretending to be Bono?
@@machineman41 I think he means bobo walks around dublin pretending to be God...
Only found out Ronnie is no more ... and am well sad ... God bless you fella ... you bought laughter to my face ... and tears to my eyes with your voice ... Rest In Peace man
Am I the only person that comes back to this song, soooo good!.... Bono 👌💯
Absolutely brilliant 👏 👌 love from the Jersey channel Isl
At the end of the day, that is a truly beautiful melody.
Thanks for posting that! Great to see U2 and friends performing traditional Irish music!
I love some pop music. I love a lot of folk music. They should never mix. I appreciate the sentiment, so I watch.
R.I.P Ronnie...there's plenty across the pond that miss you too. Bless you, wherever you are. There'll never be another!
I love this song, full of inpiration for a great irish man, the selected voices are awesome it demonstrates how love and respect feel the irish musicians and irish people to Ronnie Drew blessed be.
Regards from Bolivia
Poor Shane, we'll never hear your voice live again...😢
and yet there was no one from the Dubliners singing a solo in this song.
They were too busy playing their instruments.
These musicians singing this on the Late Late! Only an Irish person would understand how awesome this is! The tingling you get from watching this, THAT'S WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE IRISH! Damn Proud!

Here's to the Ronnie, the voice we adore
Like coals from a coal-bucket
Scraping the floor
Sing out his praises in music and march
And if you are not Irish
That isn't your fault
Raise up our voices like dogs in a pack
Thankful for honest man, we never lack
We got them by twenties, we got them by ones
Them and their daughters
And all of their sons
Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey)
Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey)
Ronnie Drew
(Hey! Hey) , we love you, yes we do
Here's to you, Ronnie Drew, here's to you
I watched them plenty
Through right and 'er wrong
Whether I'm easy or whether I'm true
But as she lifted her petticoat easy and slow
I rolled up my sleeves for to buckle her shoe
Get up and work from five until five
When the whistle says better
We'll come back alive
He'll sing to the heavens
He's stormy as hell and wherever he goes
We'll be wishing him well
Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey)
(Hey) Here's to you (Hey) , Ronnie Drew (Hey)
Ronnie Drew (Hey) , we love you, yes we do
Here's to you, Ronnie Drew, here's to you
The dawn and the dusk, the unwise
The unjust gives and gets him gaze
The unheard, the unseen, the unwashed
And the clean where the
Streets all have names baggot Street
Meets the street right on
St stephen's Street lovers
And loners who can peer on your shoulders
The gods and the rapers
Immigrants and traders, sing about him
A man for a man and a hand for a hand
Trust in the music, strike up the band
The more that we sing, the less that we find
Time and again, this is brood to be right
Build you a statue on St stephen's Green
No fairer monument there to be seen
A statue of Ronnie Drew, holding the hand
Of a girl with her hair
In a black velvet band
Here's to you (No stranger to dare)
Ronnie Drew (Or angels to devil)
Here's to you
(A friend of a friend of a friend of a)
Ronnie Drew (A friend to you) ronnie Drew
(Ronnie Drew) , we love you, yes we do
Here's to you, Ronnie Drew, here's to you
Here's to you, Ronnie Drew, here's to you
(Ronnie Drew)
I watched them plenty
Through right and 'er wrong
Whether I'm easy or whether I'm true
But as she lifted her petticoat easy and slow
I rolled up my sleeves for to buckle her shoe
