I love this song, full of inpiration for a great irish man, the selected voices are awesome it demonstrates how love and respect feel the irish musicians and irish people to Ronnie Drew blessed be. Regards from Bolivia
I sang this in August 2008 in Birmingham. I was in an Irish pub in a trad session when we heard the news that Ronnie Drew had passed so I started singing this before three other Irish lads joined in and soon every person in the pub was singing 'Here's to you Ronnie Drew'. Not bad since I was only twelve at the time. RIP Ronnie Drew. a true legend
Im Only 16 and Have Been Listening To The Dubliners and Ronnie Drew My Hole Life. Everyone Raise You'r Glasses To Ronnie Drew. He's An Insparation and A Real Irish Man.
Dear God, Was that Glen singin' on the phone? And it turned out the best of all of them. Ronnie was in Spiddal with my Dad and was full of life and mischief way back then. He's have loved this.
When Shane McGowan sang Easy and Slow...classic song. He may not have the same power as Ronnie did for it...but it's a great homage. I think it's safe to say that he's sorely missed. At least him and Luke Kelly are together - probably having a rare old session up in heaven. RIP Ronnie!
jesus christ, i shed a tear in the library at school. God bless you ronnie drew. RIP "if you're not irish, that isnt your fault" -thats me, a Swede touched by Mr. Drew througout my life
Tears running down my cheek Thanks for this Thanks for all the years and thank you Ronnie Drew for being Ronnie Drew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Party on with Luke Kelly See you at Heaven`s Pub
God speed Ronnie! Sadly missed... The funny thing... was walking home from the pub tonight singing Seven Drunken Nights... then I get home and check the net... Well, Heaven is havin' a session tonight... /K
I bet they distorted the sound deliberately so that we would purchase the song. Great idea if that's the case anyway, seeing as the money is going to charity. I'm definately buying it anyway! Here's to you Ronnie!
id love to know how they decided who sung the verses to this bono: ego prat shane: total legend christy: total legend damo dempsey: i could take or leavve him glen: total legend personally i woulda loved to of seen duke special and mick pyro sing a verse each and if bono wasnt so big headed they could've!
It had a very 'We are the World' (or whatever that song is called) feel to it, where celebs lock hands and sway back-and-forth. But, to agree with jimmieteemm, it was mostly Bono who ruined it... and, as you point out, the chorus. Still, it's nice to see people honoring such a fine man as Ronnie.
Bono did not write it. Lyrics were written by the late Robert Hunter, the guy who wrote all those legendary songs on American Beauty and Workingman's Dead. Had to laugh at the sly reference to St Stephen. Possibly the most brilliant lyricist of all time.
I just wonder, most of the other artists who did this were folk-related, but Bono and U2 are anything but.....so does Bono get all the attention and credit?
That's it! I was humming the Hallelujah chorus for the last few minutes, but just couldn't think of the song. It's a total rip off. Ps: Leonard Cohen wrote it originally, although you can't really beat Jeff Buckley's version.
Man, I LOVE Ronnie, but this song was just too bad to be a tribute. It was a handful of tired old fame-mongers peacocking their faces. The tune itself sounded cheap, whereas Ronnie's songs were gruff, "working class", and tinged with strange nostalgia. As the old saying goes, "wherever there is Bono, there is shit nearby."

REST IN PEACE
Just got word of his passing over here in CA at the moment. Brought joy to many.
When Shane McGowan sang Easy and Slow...classic song. He may not have the same power as Ronnie did for it...but it's a great homage. I think it's safe to say that he's sorely missed. At least him and Luke Kelly are together - probably having a rare old session up in heaven. RIP Ronnie!
Oh Ronnie...rest in peace. I got upset as I heard that you had passed away. But I hope you are in a better place now. Rest in peace.

Joe Elliot of Def Leppard was there, He's English but lives in Ireland.
id love to know how they decided who sung the verses to this
bono: ego prat
shane: total legend
christy: total legend
damo dempsey: i could take or leavve him
glen: total legend
personally i woulda loved to of seen duke special and mick pyro sing a verse each and if bono wasnt so big headed they could've!
Yes is is :)
he's gotta be the greatest legend there
Ronnie Drew: The king of Ireland.
Que en paz descanse Ronnie Drew!
damos verse has 2 be the best
Im from Costa Rica I dont know who was Ronnie Drew(im going to look in internet) but that song sounds great
It had a very 'We are the World' (or whatever that song is called) feel to it, where celebs lock hands and sway back-and-forth.

@WalterWonka FUCK YESSS!!!
RIP
Fantastic song, loving the singing from Shane MacGowan.
Big U2 fan here, but not really Bono's scene. He didn't have much in common with ol' Ronnie.
thanks for posting that...the video is a bit out of sync i think
@SGRollingStone That's Christy Moore
Ronnie :(
He's singing it because he wrote it! You may not like him, but he still wrote the song, so he can sing it.
Bono did not write it. Lyrics were written by the late Robert Hunter, the guy who wrote all those legendary songs on American Beauty and Workingman's Dead. Had to laugh at the sly reference to St Stephen. Possibly the most brilliant lyricist of all time.
i stil think that this song didnt get the rcognition that it shud of Got... after all... Its a tribute to a legend!
...wow, offspring of a knack?
Who is that at 1:52?
Nice little tribute to Ronnie Drew by U2 and a few Irish folks such as the remaining Dubliners
I just wonder, most of the other artists who did this were folk-related, but Bono and U2 are anything but.....so does Bono get all the attention and credit?
I don't mean any disrespect to the man, it's sad that he's gone but isn't this song shit?
@SGRollingStone Damien Dempsey :)
who is fergal hunter? lol
Bono was the only one who cheapend it
Shane MacGowan FTW
are u speakin basque
estas hablando vasco perdón no sé pero creo que es vasco porque no puede ser catalan ni Gallego
Edge is Welsh, actually.
im not a fan either but his is the best and most powerful bit
that would be Christy Moore
fuckin hell nobody can have an opinion anymore
and by the way i am not alone in my opinions of bono
@StoliDassah Christy moore
If you're not Irish that isn't your fault!
That's it! I was humming the Hallelujah chorus for the last few minutes, but just couldn't think of the song. It's a total rip off.
Ps: Leonard Cohen wrote it originally, although you can't really beat Jeff Buckley's version.
cathel give over about the wolfe tones lol, i dont think bono likes them or Ronnie for that matter so why would they be invited.
And if you're not Irish that isn't your fault
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam !
from Holland this Cloggy drank 2 U a double Jameson, to you all you Paddies : Dia dhuit & Go n-éirí on bóthar leat !
yeah i kinda agree with horseflu on that way, it sounds a bit cheesy, i mean i loved ronnie drew but i was kinda cringing during the chorus!!
This song brings corny to a new level.
Man, I LOVE Ronnie, but this song was just too bad to be a tribute. It was a handful of tired old fame-mongers peacocking their faces. The tune itself sounded cheap, whereas Ronnie's songs were gruff, "working class", and tinged with strange nostalgia.
