- In the 1950s, Drew moved to Spain to teach English and learn Spanish and flamenco guitar. His interest in folk music began at the age of 19. When he returned to Ireland, he performed in the Gate Theatre with John Molloy and soon went into the music business full-time, after holding a number of short-term jobs-including one at Dublin's telephone exchange.
Drew left the Dubliners in 1974. He rejoined in 1979, but then left for good in 1995, though he did reunite with the group in 2002 for a 40th anniversary celebration. He made several television appearances with the group between 2002-05.
On 22 August 2006, Drew was honoured in a ceremony where his hand prints were added to the "Walk of Fame" outside Dublins Gaiety Theater
In September 2006, Drew was reported to be in ill health after being admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, to undergo tests for suspected cancer.
On 25 October 2007, Drew-now bald and beardless-appeared on Ryan Confidential on RTÉ 1 to give an interview about his role in The Dubliners, his life since leaving the band and being diagnosed with throat cancer. Later in 2007, he again appeared on The Late Late Show, where he spoke some more about the death of his wife and his ongoing treatment for cancer.
Drew died in St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin on 16 August 2008, following his long illness. He was buried three days later in Redford Cemetery in Greystones.

Yes that's exactly how I felt, so much thought into beautiful headstones, verses and flowers ❤
Love this , I have not heard of this artist, have learn a lot , very nice resting place 💕
Thanks Regina, he was a great man and very sick towards the end, the dubliners were a great group ❤
This cemetery is amazing! It is very well cared for, and the headstones 🪦 are beautiful! I never heard of Ronnie before, well, living in the United States 🇺🇸. But I have heard of the Dubliners, I have actually heard their music 🎶 before, so I imagine that was Ronnie I heard singing lead. Good group. What you said about parents burying their children, struck home to me; My sister has lost two of her four children in the last six years. Her middle son in 2017, ( he actually died on my birthday, believe it or not. ) her youngest son died three months ago. These experiences have really changed her. Thank you very much, Sue and GV, for a great video, and for telling Ronnie's story, may he rest in peace 🙏.
Ahh God Bless your sister, that is such an sad part of life. I strongly believe no parent should bury their child. I'm always amazed by the strenght in parents to carry on in life but they are changed, they are broken. All my love to you all for enduring such heartache 💔
@Serenity Sue Thank you very much for your kindness Sue, you have no idea how much that means to me. May God bless you and your entire family as well! You now have a place in my prayers 🙏 Take care.
Hi Sue. Sorry, I missed. Thought I'd be home in time. Having a Christmas Eve get together with my little family. Interesting finds in the cemetery. It was good to see all the activity with flowers and such. Love Ronnie Drew's music and the Dubliner's. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with New Adventures.

Merry Christmas Sue to you and your family. Another lovely video thanks for sharing. I loved the headstones with the glass and the signatures so unique the angels too. A friend has aunts that lived in Greystones. I was looking at photos of that road in Wexford it had been washed away. Stay safe.
Oh we got it bad in wexford, not sure of surrounding counties
He is the most Irish looking man i've ever set eyes on. ❤❤❤
He is and this is what you call an Irish voice, grit, sadness with a story to tell
What a real treasure was Ronnie...Thank you, Sue.
He sure was Jen, with his distinctive beard and blue eyes and of course that voice ❤❤
So beautiful amazing
Thank you ❤️ 😊
What a beautiful cemetery. It is sooo well kept. I like the graves which don't have surrounds.
Thanks Elizabeth it was stunning, those headstone were fantastic ❤
So well kept xxx
Thanks Tom happy Christmas ❤
On one since it's sad to see all the holiday decorations on Graves but more sad to see when one is no longer visited and may Ronnie and the rest there rest in peace
Yes Larry that's exactly it, so many of us feel sad for the loss of loved ones, even more so at Christmas ❤
Thank you Sue! Beautiful cemetery indeed…sad to see babies and kids graves…but if I can say I really liked the “sunrise” and “sunset” instead of birth and death…for that baby…🙏🥰❤️💔
Ahhh me too, it's so very sad little babies and children ❤
@@SerenitySueGraveyards it’s very hard…but souls choose they path…I believe…💔
Ahh wow, I love those words ❤❤
Another wonderful program. Thank you for your work. Love Ronnie Drew. "The Auld Triangle". Ever go to The Clancy Brothers?
No, was looking into them and to luke Kelly's too, hopefully I'll get there too ❤❤
Thank you sue stay safe and have a happy new year
Thanks Hazel, right back at you ❤❤
I love the Irish Rover with the pogues, it’s funny if you really watch it
Thanks Emma
Hi Sue! Many of Australia's folk musicians are people of Celtic descent so there's plenty of influence that's been handed down. I haven't seen headstones with translucent glass inserts before. They look very effective but I wonder how well they will fare over time. Some cemeteries here have both 'enclosed' and 'unenclosed' graves depending on the section. The unenclosed graves tend to be more recent (to allow for lawn mowing etc). 🇦🇺 🇮🇪
Yes you're right this was a newer area, mmm I wonder how it will fare too now you say it 🤔 they were so nice and to find two the very same but with the glass slightly different, thanks a million ❤
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I've been to a few cemeteries this year. I tend to avoid the large general cemeteries with their rows upon rows of headstones because I feel lost in them. I'd rather go to the smaller, 'God's acre' type graveyards that are (or were) associated with a church. 🇦🇺 🇮🇪
❤❤❤❤
So much love they have for the loved ones it's something that stays with us till we meet again
Ahh that's lovely ❤❤
Stunning Cemetery
I agree ❤
I love Irish Music so much 💕🥰💋🥰💞‼️
We have a group The Murphy Brothers 🥰💋
Thanks so much ❤
Ronnie helped carry my hero's coffin to his final resting place as a pallbearer, Rory Gallagher, his friend of many years time. At Rory's church service, Ronnie read from The Book Of Wisdom. Rory would have been honored to know this.
Wow, I did not know this, I hope to visit Rory's final resting place too ❤❤
Merry Christmas Sue
Many happy returns ❤
Babies always get me 💞😣😔💕🙏
Oh my too, so sad 💔
I absolutely love this wonderful man. I’m actually related to Paddy Reilly who was with them for years. Never met him. Great show.
Ahh that's really cool ❤
@@SerenitySueGraveyards grand job lovely

Fucking absolute whiskey, concrete slurry, gravel voiced singer. God bless you Ronnie.
He was and now we've lost Shane, they were the perfect pair to sing together
Such legendary voices and representatives of Ireland. @@SerenitySueGraveyards
Interesting cemetery. I noticed tombstones back to to back facing opposite directions. Kind of unusual.
Yes very unusual, I wonder if it's a mixture of Catholic and Protestant graves?
that si sad 3 little ones
Very sad ❤❤
Julie's Cat looks quite lifelike
❤❤❤❤
WOW very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work. Beautiful cemetery well taken care of,, God is cruel I beleave
I love this cemetery, so beautiful, 😍
I see this video Wednesday I go today Saturday
Did you find his grave ?
Im sorry to ask such a stupid question but I'm from the states. Some of those headstones have 4 names on them in 1 plot. They must've been cremated right? Those 2 little kids at the end, looks like no one has been to see them in a while. Sad to see. RIP Little angels
It's not uncommon here to have numerous people in a burial plot dig deep one on top of each other or side by side ❤
Ye are very wrong to ride on the back on Ronnie drew. Ye didn't show his grave at all. That was my 2nd cousin
I most certainly did show his final resting place and I think I did a nice tribute for him. Lots of people had asked me to visit him as they are not able to..I visit others too not just the famous, as for riding on the back of Ronnie, that's not a very nice thing to say as I remember others too in here, it's a stunning cemetery ..God Bless
H! How very sad .l HONESTLY thought it was our great Ronnie Drew. It was still a lovely stone and a very well kept graveyard .Your cousin certainly had a
