I love the fact they kept the body style. Saves me another $3-5K on accessories. Everything I own will fit this camera, so no need to start all over again buying accessories. To me, that was a brilliant choice. I make indie films (controlled sets and locations) so I have no use for auto focus or stabilization or all other stuff the mirrorless cameras offer. This is a cinema camera. Those that use it the way it was created DO NOT COMPLAIN. Only content creators, newbies and RUclipsrs complain and obsessed with the box shape, auto focus ,and so on. For what I do, the full frame makes this the perfect camera for indie films. Especially at it's price point. Thanks for sharing sir. Blessings.
I ordered mine today. For me, full frame was the only thing I was missing from my 6k pro. I only shoot narrative short films, and I needed more room indoor close environments, as well as being able to get shallower depth of field. Outside my 6k pro is perfect, so I hope the combo of the two will be perfect for me.
That's a good way to look at it and nice combo. The ability to get shallower depth of field indoors is a big reason for shooting full frame that no one seems to ever talk about. For me the extra height of the sensor would be handy for shooting hotel interiors, giving more options in post.
Great video, Jonathan. I just saw your channel-great stuff. I'm also a 6K Pro user, and since the BMD even I've been trying to breathe deeply to control myself and not make a very negative video about this camera, trying to see the positive sides of it..., not easy but, not easy. I agree with you. Thanks for your impud. Cheers from Italy
Im VERY INTERESTED in the Black magic Camera app with an iPhone 15 Pro. It covers all the bases for battery stabilization (with a mobile gimbal) and lens choice and output to Pto Res 4K.. This combo means I can shoot run ahd gun faster and still enjoy the BMD camera interface. BTW I own a 6K Pro and with a Sigms 18-35mm plus matte box us frickin gangly AF. Its like an adult version of a Fisher Price camera
I will hold my nose and tolerate the body design in order to have the advantages of BRAW open gate, and to have a Blackmagic camera which will integrate seamlessly with the Cloud Storage workflow as the firmware and infrastructure matures. I think my biggest concern is whether I will be able to access the CFExpress slot when the CC 6K is on a gimbal. There’s always going back to SSDs when rigged that way, but I think the USB-C port will be more useful for other purposes such as connecting to a cellphone or (big wishlist item) plugging into the Ronin RS3 Pro so it can feed LiDAR data to an autofocus L-mount lens. Now wouldn’t that be a cool upgrade! Beyond that, this is their first full frame system, and as usual they went with baby steps in the design and rollout. Still it sends the message that Blackmagic is paying attention to filmmaking trends and will support high res anamorphic recording in future hardware updates. I think this is a good place for them to start.
Anyone considering this camera should take a hard look at the Lumix S range. You get full-frame, 6K sensor, and L-mount, also without a built-in ND. Data rates up to 600 MBps and lovely Panasonic colour science. As a bonus you get full photographic features, two card slots, and a built-in EVF. Oh, and excellent stabilisation in the body. If you must have BRAW you can record it externally, which is the only thing these cameras give up to Blackmagic.
The thing that nobody seems to consider when they talk about dynamic range is how nearly every camera company lies about their dynamic range. When tested nearly all cameras score about 11.5 to 12.5 stops of usable dynamic range. The only company that has been honest with their numbers is ARRI. The only differences I have ever noticed is how pronounced the S-Curve is and where middle grey is.
@@Fedorevsky based on what I have seen from the chart data from the P4k and P6K I would expect the BMCC6K to have almost exactly 13 stops of usable dynamic range.
They claim 13,5 on the lower circuit up to 1000 iso but on the second circuit it falls little by little until it's as low as 10 something stops at the highest iso available. We'll just have to wait until Cide D or someone else tests it to be sure.@@BigBlobProductions
They should absolutely add H.264 or H.265 recording only. Sometimes I pick my S5 just for the lower data rates for projects that I simply don’t need raw latitude and data rate. Makes it easier and faster to transfer and store 😊
Oh im upgrading. The reason why i never got the 6k/6k pro is because of the ef mount. There is alot of camera lenses ditching ef for mirrorless including the lenses that have produced some of my fave shots. While it sucks that the body is the same meaning a continued crappy battery life. Ill deal as long as i can keep my fave lens brands. Continue to shoot in B raw AND set up the shutter to shutter angle instead of shutter speed. (That last one is why i had 0 intrest for the fx 3/30 cameras.
Sold all my pocket 6k and pro for red komodo x. No way i am gonna be stupid for the 3rd time in getting this new blackmagic 6k. I do not need to stress myself to rig it up for gimbal and drone works. Maybe one day they know how to make a box cine camera then only i might consider. But that just me.😊
yeah they could, I think a paid update would be the most logical option but I don't think they will do that, they very much want people to stick to the Blackmagic pipeline.
Very few people got their hands on this camera and sadly RUclips does not pay enough for me to just go out and buy the camera for testing and the algorithm means you've got to get reactions out while there's still hype. All the points I've made here don't require using the camera to conclude thoughts from.
true, maybe some sort of external version of the screen with a cableless attachment. What would have been cool is a two versions of the camera, a mirrorless body and a box body version.
@@JonathanPalfrey Shocking the lack of imagination. Either put the screen on top, like the new Z Cam or build it into the side of the camera like the Ursa.
