My, how cities and cultures change in a mere two and a half decades. I was very fortunate to visit Austin for five days in 1993 and see some great music: Marcia Ball with the great Jesse 'Guitar' Taylor at La Zona Rosas, a Derek O'Brien fundraiser at Antones with Austin blues royalty showing up including Jimmie Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall Sr., Junior Brown, Sue Foley (a Canuck), Lou-Ann Barton, Charlie Sexton, Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton ... what a night! And, sadly, an era long past. Thank you for this great video.
Thanks for posting this - loved VH1 as a kid back in the early 90s and this documentary was really interesting, especially knowing more in depth about music now.
Don Healy and Kris Kristopherson is from Texas get out here oh my goodness... all the greatest are from Texas geee ohh my God something in the Texan water for sure 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼🇦🇺
The story of Buddy Holly and Waylon Jennings when buddy holly died is crazy, if im not mistaken Waylon traded or gave up his seat on the plane for buddy holly then it crashed
A little disappointed in Jimmy Vaughn, he knows he's from Dallas. Him and Stevie went to Oak Cliff High School. They both went to Austin later, because that is where the music is.
My brother jokenly said he wanted to drive his pregnant wife from Tucson to El Paso so his son would be born on Texas soil to ensure he would be a great guitar picker.
Oak Cliff in Dallas County right ? Jimmie moved out of his parents house and went to Austin Texas soon after so did his lil brother Stevie ray Vaughn. When i signed up to be a member of the eagles bar and club, they asked if i believed in a higher power. I wrote down Stevie Ray Vaughn ;)
We use to load up from Houston and head to Austin in the late 70's for the weekend to go to 6 th street and now I do not go to that California leftest liberal town, they ruined it.
im planning on getting a band together and touring, im 20 now and have been playing guitar for 12 years, my plan is to move out of my quite town and start gigging, I heard theres no where better then texas and hearing that Austin is fucked now, think you guys could recommend the best towns for live bands to make it? Im planning on playing hard rock blues and want a crowd whos looking for the same
PB this is what I do with my life now. If you really want it you can make it happen, but it’s not for the faint of heart. also if you do a lot of drugs/alcohol already, you’re fked, forget it

Glad I got to ride the Austin wave through the center of this period. I was raised in NY, but I only feel a connection to the heart of Texas!
Well said!
Everybody from Texas is proud to be Texan. I love Texas and I`m from SC.
Wonderful. I'm from Norway, live in New Mexico. I love New Mexico and Texas
Johnny Winter brought a tear to my eye..: Love him. The greatest guitarist ever
So sad he did not get more recognition when he was alive. He is a criminally underrated legend.
I'm the biggest zztop fan ever honestly. but when I think of Texas I think willie nelson and johnny winter
There is no one greatest guitar player, the greatest player is the one YOU like best.
I just knew Johnny had to be in here. Fantastic guitar player and he kept the blues alive throughout his life. He is missed.
GREAT MUSICIANS FOREVER.🧡🥰
Very cool about Austin Texas and all the people of Texas who play music. Great talent shop, what ever it is you can find it there.

Jimmie Vaughan is from Oak Cliff
Jimmie Lawrence Vaughan was born on March 20, 1951 in Dallas County, Texas

Born and raised in Austin from 93 and i'm always torn, I love this place but hate what it's become. I just wish I was born a decade earlier.
🤣
