Im a 62 year old man, and the first and only time I ever shed tears over the loss of a celebrity when Dusty Hill 1/3 of ZZTOP left the building for that great venue in the sky. It broke my heart, ZZTOP, though ten years older than I, are my teenage years idols. I’ve been to so many of there shows OVER THE decades including the second to last show Dusty performed at (Soaring Eagle Casino) in Mt Pleasant MI. 7/17/21 I was lucky enough meet Billy Gibbons by chance at a L. A. Auto museum in the parking garage, in 2005, he pulled in right next to us to park and I get out and to him for a picture with him, he was so humble and gracious to entertain me a fan with his time, we talked 20 minutes about what I just was checking out in museum, his cars guitars n motorcycles that were on loan to museum. God Speed Dusty RIP #ZZTOPFOREVER
When you're 12 and TV and is on and you hear that Ford coupe revving up! Then your neck snaps when you hear them notes of Hard blues the horsepower ahh and the girls...ahh the girls. That is 1983! Sweet memories thank you Dusty RIP.
Same for me Bill. I was 12 getting my introduction to the Texas Blues Band . I remember the local kids playing the El Loco album and not having a clue …when Eliminator hit 💥 boom ! I couldn’t do anything but live that Texas sound .
I saw ZZ in Tucson 15 years ago and I realized that they are the coolest band ever. I knew they were cool before I saw them, but after that concert Holy Shit!
I been listening and learning licks from them since 1974.their first album and Rio Grande mud was all I played.still got them.wouldn't trade nothin for them.going to hand them down to gr.children too.part of my history of growing up.tuned me on to blues.Muddy waters,John Lee Hooker. and Freddy king.keep it real simple and fun.keep it up.
Yeahman. I must have been 12 or 13 when i started listening to them. Think i had one or two of their songs going, just by trying to follow the bass notes on an old classical guitar. Wouldn't have had a clue how Billy was doing all that then, but a few years later i started trying to learn that guitar.. and i guess something clicked cos i can play Fandango to Afterburner now. Love ZZTOP!
indeed, however if you have enough motivation to look for it, you can still find good music coming out (just independently released with no record label backing or promotion to support it)
In the early to mid 70's, my best friend lived pretty much right down the street from Billy Gibbons. You could often hear guitar music in the evening if you were outside, but it was some time before she told me that Billy Gibbons lived down there.
I remember growing up in Milwaukee, WI in the '70s and in s clear night I could pick up those cross border stations. I was 90 miles north of Chicago. I remember hearing Heard It On The X and...holy crap..I knew immediately what they were singing about once I found out that the X was one of those cross border stations I'd listen to as a kid and young teen.
Y’all had some kick ass stage shows in early 80’s El Loco will always be my favorite show out of close to 100 total. Most in The Greensboro Coliseum and venues in NC, SC, and VA… See y’all in NC in a few months
I live bout a 1 1/2 southeast of Florence and had no idea they recorded here. That awesome my fav band recorded in my state, I bet it was at the original fame studio since Rev Willie G said the sound shack
there are just some people out there that you expect to live forever like they're immortal the members of ZZTOP for me are those people becauae for me every song just made me smile
As a UK resident I first heard of ZZ Top when they played the legendary Channel 4 show The Tube in early 80s. Then they were everywhere with their vids of cars and girls, mainly playboy playmates. Remember learning to play Rough Boy with some mates in 86, 87 ish. Currently having another go at mastering Legs, but Billy's a hard act to master. What is there not to like about them? Thanks for posting.
I went to the Warehouse, to see ZZ Top, they came on about 10pm, we left the Warehouse at about 4, Top was still Jaming, I think I saw about 8 or 10 times at a Warehouse, they were Phenomenal, and played about 3 or 5 hours each time, we left cause I had to go to work, but I stayed all the other times for the full show, it was definitely a gas, gas, gas ¡😎¡
It is so awesome. El Diablo is my favorite ZZ Top tune and Tejas was my first album ever...I found it as a kid on the sidewalk in New Mexico all melted and warped but it still played. I got in trouble because of Tube Snake Boogie playing when my dad heard it but I had no idea at the time ... 🥺🥺🥺

MTV is why they changed it up. They cashed in big time but I never felt like they sold out. They are still one of my all time favorites. But you're right their first few albums are gold.
