Yep, only bourbon. Was there a few years ago. When they were owned by Seagrams they made lower end whiskey but even then I think it was only whiskey, mostly destined for export, a lot to Japan. Four Roses was not very good back in the 80’s and 90’s. Always have it in house now.
I'm disappointed there was no mention of the non-chill filtered label on the neck of the bottle. That's where the heavy mouth feel is coming from Rex was talking about. Also, this is probably why a little bit of water causes a big reaction and change in flavor.
Just picked one of these up today. My first liqour purchase, and I'd say I'm pretty happy with it lol. Not an easy sipper, but it's still satisfying. A glass or two and I'm set 👌
A couple weeks ago I had a really nice gift given to me by Fiancee it was Wild Turkey's Rare Breed Bourbon 58.4% and I have to say it was one the best Bourbons I've had the pleasure of tasting, very smooth for high proof bourbon and it had a very clear and distinguishable caramel sweet note along with brown sugar finish, very aromatic and flavorful and very simple cherry note on the pallet..I've been expanding my pallet with whiskeys and I'm very very fond of the Bourbons and it's thanks to this channel, thanks guys
Just opened a bottle of this today. Nice vanilla with some spice and, as rex described it, "jammy" note. I'll probably buy this as a yearly release. Which from my understanding, is the case. Very much enjoy this. Single barrel is one of my favorite go-to's.
I am just joined the Tribe and during this time I after draining my last of Buffalo Trace I went to try Four Roses since you have reviewed it several times and seems to be a favorite. They only one they had as the Small Batch Select and it is great but it does have a heat and spice to it I was not expecting. Being able to see and hear the flavors you taste helps me experience them as well and put a name to the flavors which is so helpful. I am happy I chanced upon your channels.
Mrs just got me a bottle for V day & an eagle rare. Never been a roses fan for the high rye, but this on a large rock is absolutely delicious!!! Candied cherry front note with vanilla and dark brown sugar, then heavy tannins that leaves your pallet feeling like it’s coated with velvet. I like it!!! The proof doesn’t affect its sip ability the least way and it really transitions from heavy tannins back to a sweet bourbon!
This new 4 Roses Small Batch Select is non-chill filtered. I wish more Bourbons did this. It's coming around, though. Bottle it at high proof, drink it neat, and don't leave it sitting around too long and you'll never have a need for chill filtration.
All the regular single barrels are OBSV mashbill, unless it's a private selection/barrel pick, then you can get one of the other 9 mashbills. The private selections are also barrel proof, which is a bonus. I am always on the lookout for them when traveling.
I'm gonna nominate Four Roses to be in consideration for the back wall of representative whiskey. Maybe not this exact small batch select, but the widely available small batch or single barrel. I feel like it meets all the criteria for the back wall. Consult with the almighty bunghole and get back to me on this.
@@24binky The single barrel is fking delicious, one of my fav bourbons as of now. I do have an unopened bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed, that might make it run for its money

Four Roses has become one of the go to bottles I buy once their Single Barrel release shows up, glad to see you guys review the small batch as it is one I hope to keep in my collection for whiskey science reasons. *I might drink with whiskey ghosts too*
I really enjoyed this release. Most of the special release small batches in October are 55% or less. Every once in a while you get a 60% single barrel but usually in the OB recipes.
I just had some for the first time. I was amazed that this bourbon had ZERO flavor to me. I mean, NONE. Then I did add a very tiny amount of water and the flavor came out, which amazed me, because I had added so little water. However, I did not find the flavor to be anything exceptional. Crap, I now let it sit for a while and the flavor is coming out more. I will let you all know later what I think. BTW I also tried Woodford Double Oak before that and I think it was pretty incredible. Someone please explain to me what happens to the bourbon when you add water. And, does the mash bill of the bourbon determine whether you should add water or not? Have to admit, I have never done the adding a little water to bourbon to effect flavor.
Brother in law Spends big money on Tequila and somehow made him realize Whiskey is where its at. He bought this and made my night. Such a fabulous drink. Over ice this is dangerous. Much love.
Today, I took my last part of the CPA exam. Thinking of getting a whiskey to celebrate with or drown my sorrows with pending the exam outcome. Any recommendation?
