The audience are the gods that demand blood and the "film" to go a certain way with a final girl. The people running all of the stuff behind the scenes are the producers and crew that are just trying to appease the gods. Kinda cool if you think about it.

I mean even though the whole premise is already spoiled and done by the end of the first movie. A prequel of the first time they actually rig up these sort of horror movie death games would be kinda fun even as a short. We know how the sauce was made but knowing how the recipe was concocted would be a fun concept. Especially if its all done from the producer perspective figuring out what to do and experimenting with the different monsters all leading to the first test where we see the forst successful sacrifice begin with characters we dont have time to get attached to so we never want to see them win in some way. A bit against the original idea in audience is the god lore wise but an interesting premise @LeadrynMcKrotch

Only a prequel would kinda make sense, different group of people with similar horror tropes, a different horror enemy, and the final girl surviving, but also finding out about the whole "system" and deciding to join them to appease the gods, maybe like an origin story for Sigourney Weaver's character.

Was a old 80s anti-pot commercial about a dad grilling his son about the pot he found in his room. He kept asking
"Where did you learn to do this"
And the son finally breaks down and responds
"You, I learned it by watching you!"

The “I learned it from watching you!” bit in the scene that introduces the kids is a joke based on an old anti-drug public service announcement tv spot that used to play on Saturday morning cartoons in the 80’s and early 90’s.
The ad featured a father confronting his teenage son with his weed stash and demanding to know where he got it and “who taught you about this?”. The son exclaims that, “I learned it by watching you!” and runs off to leaving the dad in his feelings. The super serious voice over line at the end was about how your kids are always watching or something like that. The ad is probably the most famous of that kind that was so prolific at the time because it was kind of unintentionally funny, which kind of went on to be a tradition for anti drug ads aimed at kids.

If you freeze the screen when it's revealing all of the monsters in those glass cages, you can actually see some of the playable special-infected monsters from the game Left 4 Dead including the Witch, Boomer, Hunter, Charger, Tank, and Smoker. If I remember correctly, the reason why they put those as Easter Eggs in the movie was because they were going to make a map in the game based on this movie, but that never came to be. Still, that's something I always thought was cool since I loved playing L4D when I was younger.

One thing I think about the ending, is that it’s partially about ending corrupt systems. Like yes, in the literal sense at the end of the movie, the world ends. But I like to think of it as - if you have a world where some people have to be sacrificed and tortured for the world to keep turning, for the system to continue, then that system should be dismantled and replaced with something else because it’s never going to be a fair and just world like that. I didn’t just pull that out of a hat tho I can’t take full credit. I actually watched this movie for a class called Horror Fiction and Film and we talked about the political implications!! Best deconstruction of the horror genre since the original Scream. It's been 13 years since this movie came out and said "you're stale and unoriginal, horror genre" and we STILL get movies that commit every cliche and hit every archetype.
This whole movie is an allegory for horror movie _making_ and the "old gods" are a stand in for you and I, the audience watching. You already know what the gods look like, they look like you and me. That's why the specific characters need to be the ones to die, because it's what us, the audience, are expecting after decades of the same.
What Ellen Ripley said at the end really had me reconsidering the message of so many of these horror movies, where we're supposed to revel in these characters deaths for being... young and human. Horror movies used to have greater messages about personal or societal issues, and now it's "let's kill the promiscuous one because Jason did it."

I freaking LOVE your reactions man!
And your laugh is so contagious..! 🤣
I discovered your channel by randomness out of watching a hairspray movie video and it took me to your Hairspray reaction… I freaking lived for it. Then I started watching some other videos and subscribed to your channel.
Now, after 11 days I’ve watched 95% of your videos (some more than once…some I will never watch because I loathe those pictures sorry)
    You rock!

Great reaction Mellverse! I think the inspiration for the tall bald guy with the circular saw blade through his face was inspired by Pinhead. In which the monster gets pleasure out of causing pain to his victims. Also, the creature that was crawling on the ceiling is called a Reanimator they are by far the scariest monster in this movie... in my opinion. Once again, great reaction, Mellverse! Keep providing quality content!

I'm sure someone's already mentioned it but *we* are the gods demanding sacrifices. The horror movie audience are the ones that demand the jock, virgin, slut, geek, etc die in these movies. They've been to formulaic for decades. That's the meta layer. It's commentary on what horror fans demand in their movies.

Want another meta horror movie check out Behind The Mask : The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It's about a documentarian following a man planning a massacre to become a slasher killer like Freddy, Jason or Michael. They actually exist in that universe. Really solid movie.

I absolutely love this movie! The ending of it and the subplot are actually pretty hilarious. Talk about a dark comedy!😂 I think my favorite part about this movie was how it gained inspiration from every horror movie that came before! Love it!

It would be scary to watch it in 3D like imagine it smashes you. I wonder if they have like concept art of it.

If you’ve ever seen or remember the shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, this movie is kind of like what happens if they were to fail in fighting off the kinds of monsters, creatures, and beings you see in here. In fact, there are at least two familiar faces from both shows in here. This movie even has the same vibe as the later seasons of the Buffy and Angel shows.

This movie is what got Chris the role of Thor. It was filmed, then the company died, and the film was shelved. Then Joss W was talking to the Marvel folk, and they mentioned they were looking at this Liam Hemsworth for Thor. Joss was like, i just finished working with Chris Hemsworth, and he'd be great for Thor. Got the audition. Got the role. The two brothers didn't speak to each other for a couple of years after, if rumors the are to be believed.

Dude, Unicorns in History never where 'Innocent'. Virgin woman they lay their heads on their lap, but people like Knights Unicorns uses their horns(called Alicorn) to stab them to death. It is also written that Unicorns have powerfull hard hooves that can stomp almost anything. They are so fast, they can literally travel between dimensions. They are so magical, they are immune against poison, toxin and even can purify with their horns water.

Each monster, at the end, is a reference to a different horror movie. The guy with the chainsaw head is a Pinhead reference. I think the Unicorns are a reference to the movie Legend. Couldn’t be the animated movie The Last Unicorn. The Merman is a reference to the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

I've said it plenty of times, they should definitely turn The Cabin in the Woods into a TV series. Cabins could be located anywhere. They could do a different cabin each episode, or one cabin a season. For example, one cabin could be up in the mountains in the Winter, where the monster there is a Yeti or Abominable Snowman.
