When Billy sings it, you believe every word of it! 🥲❤
Although this song was written by Bob Dylan, Billy Joel was the 1st one to record this in 1997...The Bob Dylan version was released two months later after Billy Joel's recording.
I knew that Bob Dylan penned this song and Billy Joel sang it first, but I thought this came out in 1986 when I first heard it.
@@mach6893 Not being a dick but the song was not around in 1986.
@@seanscanlon9067 True, it came out in '97. You're not being mean at all. If anything, you were being very nice. Here's a thumbs up. Good day sir! ^_^
The drumming on this song is beyond brilliant .....listen for that tasty hesitation
His percussionist is amazing too. I've seen her with him a few times
The hesitation was just perfect
The best version ever!
Thanks to Bob Dylan for writing this, Billy Joel for giving the best rendition, and Adele for introducing newer generations to it
agreed
Garth Brooks actually has the best rendition by far....
@@robbylafont You are entitled to your opinion but the "by far" is a bit of a stretch, even if you personally think it is the best version.
I like Garth but in my opinion it is not even the best version (by far or otherwise) in his own household. His wife Trisha Yearwood does a version too.
The best by far is Bob...the rest is like renting a car...everyone has their own way of driving
Billy Joel’s version of this song is the most epic; echoing the instrumental sound of Dylan’s 60s albums with an almost Springsteen-like vocal, this is the version you play at a wedding or a funeral, a public statement of a lifetime of love and heartbreak and experience shouted to the ocean and the heavens.
Dylan’s own version, on the other hand, is as private as it gets, the one you listen to by yourself at 3 am as you ponder your life choices. Dylan sings like he knows he will never get the girl but he has to sing this to her anyway because his love for her is all he’s got.
Garth Brooks substitutes poetry for drama. His is the Platonic ideal interpretation, connecting the song to the ancient troubadours and balladeers. It’s the version to listen to if you just want to admire the song as a work of art; it showcases Dylan’s craft without any distractions.
Adele combines elements of all three approaches while making it relatable for people other than men of a certain age (like myself.) It deserves its success, but I hope people who like it are inspired to seek out the other versions. And it is too bad that Billy Joel’s version has been almost forgotten since it’s at least as good as any of the others (though my personal favorite remains Dylan’s.)
Billy Joel can sing his ass off still today!! I have loved this man since 1984! He is amazing!!
This man is the greatest song writer on the planet, he even makes covers the best, what more can I say,,, pure genius,,, never will be matched , not a chance,,, Joel is the whole of the soul, ♥️🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bob Dylan wrote this song.
This is the best version of this song! My husband and I danced to this at our wedding. Loved it then and now.
🙏🏽❤
It was my first dance but the adele version ❤
Our wedding, too.
It was our wedding song too . The best!
Nice version from Billy Joel! Bryan Ferry did a hauntingly beautiful version of this song on his album Dylanesque!
No one beats Billy Joel. He touches parts of your soul that you never knew were there
I agree-It's All About Soul- Billy's leitmotive, everything he does..
❤❤❤
Billy always hits it just right!
This rendition is piercing. Billy can move anyone with his performance without even trying.
It's all about soul
The Hammond, the Harmonica, the Piano, and a very nice vocal really makes this a great cover. I've loved Billy's version for a very long time.
Agree! You've pointed out all the great parts that I love from this version.
Oh yeah, plus my personal favorit: Billy's watch ⌚
I personally think Billy Joel’s version sounds much better than Bob Dylan.
, just listen to Taps Mugadza's version ! ❤
Disagree..... The Billy Joel version doesn't seem to play a correct bass line or change key at the correct places.
The harmonica and drums in this version is what makes it stand out better than the others
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
I feel it too
Love Billy he can do no wrong xx
my mom likes Billy, i remember hearing him some of my earliest memories.
now its 2020 and life is hard, i just remember her singing this to me as shed rock me to sleep.
didn't plan on being sentimental but here i am....
What a phenomenal voice. This is Mr. Joel @ the height of his interpretive powers. Kudos to Mr. Dylan. What gorgeous lyrics... This is a truly inspired version of a beautiful song.
What Billy does in his version which,to me, puts it above the other covers is that he somehow deepens and draws out the melody of the song and embeds the lyrics which are beautiful in a beautiful melody as well.
@Joel Billy thank you for responding to my comment. It's still true, four years later.
@Joel Billy quite surprised. Unfortunately, now I am also suspicious. I doubt the really Billy Joel has time to reply to my comments. LOL. And so it goes........
The “other covers”?
This isn’t a cover Billy was the first person to perform this song
Fact. Look it up if you don’t believe me
@@matts5247He was the first to perform it live. Dylan, who wrote it, recorded it first.
@@kevinm6790 that’s exactly what I just said
Billy Joel would NEVER WANT anyone to forget this is a Bob Dylan original as he knows Bob personally. It's certainly much more likely that he was channeling the passion of Dylan's lyrics to bring Bob more honor. This is just as when many perform Billy's own works to bring him honor and please listeners. People might squabble over who's done those works best.I've heard several do "Shameless", "New York State of Mind" and a lot of others.Matter of fact he's so well respected and loved there's been a national award show of people doing a generous portion of Joel's book.Craftsmen are remembered for their artifice. Some cut diamonds, some sculpt pieces, others dance magnificently.Should people denigrate the performance of a Buxtehude piece because they prefer Bach or another great writer/performer? Hardly. When people perform a masterpiece that my ancestor crafted at our nation's inception commonly referred to as the "Give me liberty or give me death" speech I begrudge none of them as they bring honor to one of his great speeches-would that people might demonstrate more depth of his total service and greatness. How about instead we just shut up and concentrate on what was being said or sung for its depth of humanity and discuss the implications and allusions that spurred it?
This version is my wedding song. We danced to it again on our 10th anniversary and it was even more special.
Never heard Billy singing this before...and I've got loads of his Albums. But just watched Adele singing it on a BBC TV special, and it came up that Bob Dylan wrote it. Googled it...and listened to it. Three totally different versions of the same song...all brilliant 😍😍😍
Me too! Merry Christmas 🎄
And Garth brooks.
Bob Dylan could not given this to a better artist to release this song to the world than Billy Joel. This version has set the standard for this song, and very few have managed to surpass it
A very fitting song for my firstborn, my beautiful daughter..I will cherish the lyrics of this song forever!
It certainly is a perfect lullaby. Good on you, singing it to your little girl!
None of these cover songs would even exist, had it not been for Bob Dylan!🥰
You mean because Dylan WROTE IT? When was that in dispute ? Same with All Along the Watchtower.
Great song by Bob Dylan. There have been many good covers of this song, but to my ears, Billy’s is easily the best.
"BEAUTIFUL,"
you can feel true feelings in Billy's voice with the sound of love from all the instruments, along with pain, of love.
Are there any bad versions of this song??? Thanks, Dylan, for writing it❤
You have to had lived, loved, and experienced pain to sing like Billy Joel. Amazing
I remember watching Billy Joel do this version on Letterman when it aired the first time. I was blown away. But then Dylan’s own version came out two months later and this version was quickly forgotten. And then a couple of years later Garth and Trisha claimed this as a country song, and then almost a decade later Adele made it into a pop hit. All great versions but Billy Joel’s deserves to be remembered along with the rest.
Billy tends to get the short end of.the stick. Most people only know him for Piano Man... not even his best.
Dylan wrote this song. It has become one of his most covered songs.
tristan flynn One of the rare times I will agree with the unspoken "under-appreciated" and under-rated comments people too ignorantly throw about. I've been a career long Billy admirer even before he became world known and yet have music friends who disrespect him. I don't know for sure but it might have something to do with the Piano Man/minstrel type of delivery he got typecast into. I love those amongst his others and lord knows he's had huge success yet....short end of the stick as you say.
he is highly underrated as a singer .I've heard all versions but because I heard Billy's first his of course is the best !!!
*one
When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
Oh, I hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I will never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong
I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue
And I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet
I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of this Earth for you
To make you feel my love, oh yes
To make you feel my love
Oh Mr. Joel…simply beautiful ❤️‼️
Who coudn't fall in love with the man, who sang a song like this heart over floating one? I'm sorry...too much wine this evening. 💖
Fell in love with His version of this song ! He just puts his all into it 👌💕💝
This is a song which has been performed by numerous well known artists. As always, people have a favorite rendition. I'm an older woman, and I've heard them all. To date, Garth's version is my favorite.
I am a fan of Garth's but his version is not even the best in his own household and his wife, Trisha Yearwood's version is better.
@@seanscanlon9067 as I said, everyone has their favorite rendition.
It's a shame that the best versions like this are grossly overlooked.
I dont think its one of the best, for me adele's version its better
@@7SAVANK you're free to be wrong.
@@RyanMonty im curious, why do you like more this vertion?
Genius of Dylan
It’s not the best but it definitely deserves to be much better known than it is
I can't get enough of your rendition Billy Joel - stratospheric!
He is so Awesome! 👍🍁🍂🍁🦃🍁🍂🍁
This song reminds me of some really hard times I've had. During my years of distress I heard this song a lot on the radio and it always gave me hope, even when the whole world was in my case and I just wanted to be left alone. A great song from a great singer ❤️
Adele version is way better
God often minsters to us through songs when we need it! When we're weak it's than that HE carries us & He is strong;; Footprints 👣 🙏🏽❤
I just discovered (on my own) that the base riff of this song was ripped from a small 12 seconds of Chopin's Nocturne op. 9 no. 2. About at the 2 min mark of Chopin's, you can cleary hear it. So, thank you also to Chopin!
you've touched my soul❤
It kills me to see 15 millions on Adel´s version, and only 40 thousand on Billy´s best version of this song !!
this is SO MUCH BETTER
BobsArtGallery Why? it's not a competition
I'll be honest, I've just done a cover of the song and this is literally the moment I discovered that it wasn't an Adele original 8-/
im a huge billy joel fan..much more than adele. But adele's version is better.
The best version is Dylan's one
Lovely lovely lovely...Billy Joel thanks so much!! I hope your family is doing well🙏🤩
Why does hardly anyone acknowledge this version?
not ready to be found please let me know what you think of my new cover of this song 🎸🎤😊
U like? Me its different" thats okay just listen harmonica greatanytime.
Because it was written by a short Jewish guy and now sung by this one. . THAT'S WHY...Anti Semistism
@@Robmcdonald86 terrible
Meg Wilton It's my favorite
This is a goosebump song. Billy only does justice to his own songs. Adele and Teddy Swims both give you goosebumps when they perform this Bob Dylan classic. “Oh, tell me why... Judy why.”
Do not disturb, genius at work!
This is a man who knows love!
Confounds! I just sat on my monocle!
Fie!
Ummmm written by best and sang by many Billy kills it 💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥

I need you in my life. 😢😢😢😢😢
They way they used this in the movie, 'Will You be There' made me cry. I had never heard this version, and the scene, it was so perfect and emotional. This is one of my favorite things to listen to now. I highly recommend that movie as well.
To have so many greats cover this song is a true testiment.
The very best version of this song !!...Love Billy Joel.
The Master himself Mr Dylan with the genius mind could give us this timeless masterpiece that any good singer can deliver it !!!
Dylan and Joel were master's of life's poetry.. I still go way deep listening to this song. I dedicated this to my daughter ...
Ain't nobody forget Billy Joel, but he did a cover of a Dylan song. Get this. Name off all the Bob Dylan songs you can remember. Now, name all the Billy Joel songs. Understand?
Not really no, and not saying that in a dickish way but I just do not get what you are saying.
Timeless, it's a song that just gets a hold on you and won't let go!!
Liberty completes the song!
....This is a Poem written by a Poet lyric wise. We have one major Poet walking this earth once every century and Bob Dylan is one of the very few. No wonder why they wanted to reward him with the Nobel Prize, that he refused, but I guess that that Artist flies higher than awards, rewards and whatnot. This song was already over the top, but with this arrangement done by Mr. Joel, it set the bar higher. There are many Artists that covered this song but, in my personal opinion, this is my favourite version.
Bravo Mr. Joel because you took this tune to another level.
God bless you.
Carus Alambra 🙂
I've been a Billy Joel fan since I was 10, and I've never heard him sing this song. It's awesome! Like everything else he does.
He was the first person to perform it!
@@jdj830 in public. Bob dylan first recorded it.
The guy with the harmonica for the win
Give it all you got billy, you sang this song ,the best. Great song, singer. Thank you....❤
This is just an AMAZING version of this song!
In fact, I would say the best!
Mr. Billy Joel never fails I love the way you made it your style
I cherish this song. My dad sang this to my wife and I on the day of our wedding.
I am 72 yrs old and have been married 53 yrs to the same wonderful guy. If we ever had another wedding, this would have a place in our ceremony. We both love it. God bless you.
Richard McConnel lucky you!
wow that's so sweeet.....
Wow.. your father is so sweet.
My wife and me. Not my wife and I.
Love you, Mr. Joel. Wish I could see you soon. One day❤🤠
The one and only... Billy Joel!
Great song sung by a great man.
Billy Joel can sing just about anything and make it sound awesome ..... This song is a perfect example.....Love him!
Absolutely!!!
I had never heard Billy's version until today. Better late than never. Much better.
This moves me to tears, thinking of my lady xxx
An extraordinary singer performing an. Incredible song! Billy, you do it to me all the time! ♥️🎶🎤🎹
The very best of this song !!
😊Love Billy Joel💖❣💖
Billy, this is one of two of your best versions of this song (couldn’t find the right superlative). The band is so tight and your voice, thank you for this recording. 🥰🤭🙂
Best version,better than original❤️❤️
Gotta say. My favorite version. And I've seen a lot of them.
I have nobody to dry my tears 😢
I knew Bob Dylan wrote this and garth brooks recorded this for a movie in the 90s and Adele recorded this for newer people but I never knew about this version
I found out today for the first time that adele did a cover of this song... because my piano teacher asked if I wanted to learn "make you feel my love by Adele". And my first thought was "wait what? Adele? That doesn't seem right, I was sure it was a male artist" so I looked it up, and here I am.
Same!
Beautiful song 💕
I love this so much.
First, it is a great Bob Dylan song, but Billy Joel performed it so well.
Thank you ! Billy !!!
Love this version!
This is a Dylan song recorded in January of '97. Billy Joel is the ONLY one who gives it the best feeling. Billy Joel was the first one to release it commercially. The artist who also released it are; Adele, Garth Brooks, Bryan Ferry, Kelly Clarkson and Ane Brun.
So y'all think otherwise, look it up on Wikipedia, "Make You Feel My Love."
Trisha Yearwood's version is nice too.
Billy Joel is pure talent .... his rendition of this beautiful song proves it.
This song is perfect! When you are in love with someone the things you hope most is that they know you are and just how much!❤
In my opinion, Billy has the best version of this song, such conviction in his voice.
on voice alone in my opinion Adele owns this song.
I personally prefer the male version and the instrumental qualities in this performance.
Eric G No one owns a Dylan song but Dylan.
ED SHEERAN
Garth Brooks owns this song!
The best version ever...
Ok. Ready for that embrace that lasts a million years . . ❤
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love...🦋♥️
Amazing talent 😍🥰❤️
I just like every version of this song, Billie's version or Adele's. Both are stunning, just like every other rendition of it. Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter!
Your should try Garth Brooks' version. It's the best imo and I'm not even that into country music
Thank you kindly, Mr. Billy Joel 😢
Billy Joel fans will play the cd! Doh!
This was done almost 20 years ago and it stands the test of time. Dylan is genius but, Dylan also makes a buck or two off of covers. This is a really great version. Did you notice that Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals was playing the organ?
