A truly special baby seal rescue: instead of biting his rescuers and running away like most other rescued seals, this baby seal was very relaxed and comfortable when Antoine and Naude from Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN) managed to catch and release him.
They spotted him at Pelican Point, close to Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, during their usual morning patrol to look for entangled seals. This one was caught in a big ball of commercial fishing line, which was probably thrown overboard a fishing vessel.
Human impact on our wild life is immense. Ghost fishing nets are a huge portion or our ocean rubbish and plastic pollution, sustainability is not regarded as important. This injured baby seal was lucky, he was found soon before it would have taken his life due to starvation or suffocation.
Our animals deserve better.
After this rescue, Naude and Tony quickly caught and released two more seals - it was good day for OCN and our seals. 🦭

Wrong. 😑 we need less people interacting with animals and trying to save them. There is to much of it halting their evolution process. These seals look more like they are heading towards the 4 legged type evolution process on land or possibly bipedal. The human interaction on a lot of animals on the planet is halting all these types of animals. By not letting them just process and let it be. Regardless that was so cute though 🥰

Who's trash is there? It's all of our trash, even these guys trying to save some seals. You think just because they save seals they don't use oil? The longer you do seal rescues, the more the seals get used to your presence. I wouldn’t be surprised to see smart ones coming to you for help. Especially if you rescued them before, and they understand what you do.

One seal had a small shark with a 4"- 6" barb stuck in it's neck! Much respect to these amazing people working so hard to improve and save the lives of these wonderful creatures.
I love the way the guys talk to the seals to try and calm them. One of my favourite parts of the rescue :)

These guys have earned my respect. They do so much for these seals.
I came here after reading your newsletter #11. I was very touched by all you said. I volunteer for a cat rescue and know full well the joys and the pain of loving and helping. The joys make up for the pain, but the pain exists nevertheless. I'm also very passionate about the effect of man's negligence on those we share the planet with. I just wanted to thank you all for everything that you're doing. It truly is amazing and inspiring.

Bless you guys, I really think the world needs to take a hard look at the fishing industry. What's currently being done in the oceans are appalling.
The number of videos on this channel is uncomfortably high. Why is there not a ban on fishing around this breeding ground? Watching some of these videos and the pain that these animals have to insure in unacceptable. There should be a marine protected area declared to protect against this abuse

I remember driving back from Cape Columbine NR with a cub on my lap all the way to the Aquarium in Waterfront Cape Town. The cub had been knocked off in a storm and was too young to be in the freezing Atlantic Ocean. I'm not sure who adopted who, but it was a long night feeding the cub with the help of a conservationist. That cub cried when I put it in the arms of the waiting crew... it had so bonded with me, even sitting on my lap staring out as I drove. Gorgeous, beautiful souls ❤ 💖

@JT it's also to be noted that "evolved" countries pays "poor countries" like India and so on to send their plastic to them and unload it to the ocean, because "evolved" countries have strict laws about that and only criminal organizations can do that while in India is still allowed without too much of a hassle
