  • This is a video that I put together for myself to view in 1991. It reviews much of what was Kings Dominion at the time as well as some of its past. This is part two of the video. Please realize that I made this from an old VHS recording. I used camcorder shots I had as well as photos on 35MM slide film. The music from this show was taken from a sound track album that I have that Kings Dominion sold of their show "Celebration." The show ran at the park in the mid 1980's. Part one of the review show is of the International Street and its attractions, followed by Hanna-Barbera Land and finally you will find the Lion Country Safari theme area of the park. Look for this section if you enjoy this. This section includes include Candy Apple Grove & Old Virginia. I will upload the final parts of this video soon which will show some of the parks entertainment with some slides I had taken of shows before I had a camcorder and finally in a 4th upload I will post much of what I have of rides that have been removed over the parks history. I know the quality of this recording is not the greatest but I hope you may enjoy living the memories of Kings Dominions past with me. Note: at the time I only have part 1, 3a and part 4 up as well. I have one more to post at some point.
    Please note: All on ride videos were taken at a time when the park did not have rules about not taking the cameras. I do not any longer do this on rides at this park.

    When I worked at this place, we'd get off shift and go ride the Grizzly a few times before going home. Rough coaster but arguably one of the best in the park. Thanks for posting.

      Aw, you should have come to see me at the Berzerker ride (Pirate Ship) in the summers of 1991 and '92. I came from Missouri to live in Richmond twice. I worked in the Rides Department on I-Street and also alternated as an Area Host until the park closed (C-Shift). Who knows, we might have seen each other.

    My reason for liking Kings Dominion today is the roller coasters. I wish they still had the train though.

    Agreed! This is a great place to be in the warmer parts of the year because of these two parks. I also understand some of the complaints I miss the "theme" part of the park I miss when Hanna Barbera and everybody's favorite "singing mushrooms" were at the park but I also liked what Paramount did with the movie themed rides. BG is the better looking park by far but BG doesn't hold a candle to KD just of the amount of rides/coasters and the waterpark

    The Galaxie Coaster and the King Kobra are shown in this video and neither of them were still there in 1991, I don't think. But it's a cool video and brings back great memories. :-)

    I don't know why people are bitching so much it's still a fantastic park. VA/DCers are lucky to have two great parks in KD and Busch so close to them.

      @jamesnelson7731 5 лет назад

      Yep. I live inside the beltway in Largo Md, and my family has KD season passes. We also go to BG at least once a yr., and also up to Hershey Pk. The only place I cant my wife to go to anymore is our local 6Flags. Its 20mins away and we haven't been in nearly 20 yr. before we were married. Everytime I mention that pk she looks at me like I'm crazy.

      @@jamesnelson7731 Same; I am in Rockville and go to KD all the time. Just went to Hershey last week. Haven't been to SFA in at least 20 years. Although I am going to give it another chance, possibly as soon as next week. Supposedly everything but the food service has improved greatly since their emergence from the arguably Dan Snyder-driven bankruptcy. That man ruins everything he touches.
      Is it just me, or is his removal from just about anything just about the best news possible?

      Yes, I remember the train would stop near the old wooden cottage, then the actors would perform a skit. I remember a shot gun wedding skit being done.

    I miss the 1980's a Kings Dominion. I miss the Apple Turnover, Lake Charles, King Cobra, Time Shaft, Sky Ride, Monster, etc. Even though I never experienced them.

  • @KDFanPre91
    @KDFanPre91  14 лет назад +2

    @TrainsitFan It is a shame, I so agree. Paramount ripped out the heart of Kings Dominion over its years in my view. With the removal of great family rides and shows. The train did not take you anywhere other then the same station. It was a trip that ran all back in the wooded areas of the park. The station was located where the sky coaster pay attraction is today. The train ride was built with things to see as you traveled. For a few years they had a show that was about a 20 minute event.

    @KDFanPre91 very true. That seems similar to the train ride at Dollywood. But still a leisure ride would be a nice thing for the park. at the end of the day I'd like something calm to ride after all the thrill rides.

      Yep, back then it was called WaterWorks though. Edit: it was actually called Hurricane Reef when it first opened. Then Paramount renamed it WaterWorks, soon after Cedar Fair renamed it Soak City, and now in 2020 it’s getting renamed to Coconut Shores

    You are right that both of those coasters were long gone by 91. The video is showing the park up till 1991. It was produced that year so it will not show anything after that time. Anything before the year 91 you may find in the videos.

    Thanks for preparing these great videos. The last time I visited KD was during the reign of Paramount (1993), and I swore never to visit again. I've made good on my promise. You're right, the heart and soul of KD was removed when Paramount took over. All of the wonderful, creative details (like the frontier town, the signing frog and mushrooms, the creative rides in the mountain) and land rides, replaced with stomach churning rollercoasters.

    • @itdbfrtwthm

    @Jackfins77 Before Paraomount, I went to KD 12 or more times every year. Today those visits go to Hersheypark, Busch Gardens and Dollywood. KD gets a short visit 2 or 3 times a year. Most time my wife does not want to stay more then an hour or 2 and the visit if from a return trip from Busch Gardens where we spent a full day. I do not understand why KD can not see they have lost so many people and make changes to get them back!

    Ah, Kings Dominion in the days when Jesus Christ Himself would have been proud to buy a season pass! I am a filthy atheist who denies the existence of the holy trinity, but each and every day, I go down on my god damned knees and pray to Black Jesus and His 18-inch circumference (just in case) that when I die, I go to the mid 1980s in Richmond, VA!
