Been there, done that, not just once. At times, to manage my autoimmune diseases, I have tried countless medications, met countless healers and doctors, experimenting on myself even to this day. You would be surprised how desperation can change a person completely
This is one of the most realistic analog horrors I have ever seen. No music, no glitch effects, no creepy images jumping out at you, nothing "weird" at all. This looks exactly like a real health documentary, and that's what makes it so good.
One thing that really unnerved me about the Tangi virus is how it emotionally toyed with Julia. The virus didn't just have her killed/disappeared when she started to piece things together, it gave her false hope that she could change things make her believe that she's not alone, that others have figured it out, and then not only does it infect her, it let's her know it's infected her and seemingly takes pleasure in her horror at the realization and afterwards makes no further moves against her and lets her poison herself almost to death trying to delay its takeover of her mind and lets her suffer in pain for almost an entire year. The virus isn't just acting in according to its nature to infect and reproduce, it is sadistic and willing to not just get rid of potential threats but outright torture them. It makes me wonder what it would've done to Dr. Stevens if it managed to get its hands on him for trying to stop it with Oracle. On the flipside it seems as though letting her experiment on herself for 11 months gave the Oracle the means to complete their cure on time, which means that their sadism backfired on them in the long term.
If it's sentient and sadistic in a way that it doesn't make any further moves to Julia, then that means you can trick your body into thinking you're poisoning yourself so the virus, or parasite thinks that you're desperate trying to cure yourself
The wine bottle must've been infected. I think we all must've instantly been able to tell "Jim", "Jay" whatever were kinda suspicious... and the "welcome to the family" thing.
I think the scariest part of this one is that Tangipahoa Parish isn't just some generic small riverside town in the midwestern United States; It's a real place, located in Louisiana.
The ending was perfect, the "monster" could have been the virus that took over some alligator and the fact that the water was being sold everywhere was scary as hell
The wine thing was incredibly obvious and the moment it was brought up I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. But the line "how could I be so gullible?" *broke me.* All Dr Williams wanted was someone to see what she was seeing, to react to the situation with her same sense of urgency, and when she finally got that, the relief was so potent she wasn't thinking to keep her guard up against infection. It was a mistake I probably would have made in that situation. And her horror, regret, and futility is felt so well through such a simple line. The smallest oversight and for it she paid the highest price. THAT is good writing.
The part where she said "oh god, I am infected with the tangi virus" just that sudden character break from official report tone into visible terror and despair was enough to send shivers down my spine.
For real, even though it's like a robotic TTS voice, dude was able to give off emotion in that voice so damn well at the perfect time. The first time watching this was amazing. I had a feeling there was something up in the time leading up to it and started having this sense in the back of my head that she was infected, yet I still couldn't prepare for the impact of the revelation.
The thing that makes this scary/creepy to me is that I live in Louisiana and virus/bacteria being in the water is a somewhat common occurrence here. It feels like every few years some kid jumps into the water and gets his brain eaten by some microscopic organism.
I'm at the mouth of the Mississippi In southern plaquemines, we rarely have boil alerts but hear of them a lot in other parishes, its either some creature/virus/bacteria or what I've heard recently of a leaking sewer line in the tap water for an extended period of time. Majority of people in the surrounding area end up with cancer and lesions covering the body. To sit there and know you're dying and wonder for months what could've caused it then to find out its sheer negligence that could've been simply prevented. Don't trust those in charge of water, don't drink from the tap. Water is life. It shouldn't cause death.
I want to give Julia a hug. She tried incredibly hard, and found a temporary way to help people (boiling the water) but she still died in the end, and people are still suffering. The resignation in her voice after her realization is really depressing and adds a lot to the video. Well done on it!
She wanted to meet someone, to give and feel true love and to have a family one day, but she never got the chance. She died alone knowing there was no hope. Imagine what it's like to be in such a hopeless situation, to know you'll never fulfill any of you dreams. And what really kills me is that nobody was there for her when she killed herself. Completely alone. Afraid. With tears in her eyes and hopless regret in her mind, she pulled the trigger.
This was chilling. The way the automated voice dropped at “I have the tangi virus” gave me goosebumps, and I loved the constant back and forth with the boil water/drink water messages on the tv. The perfect ending, too, with the water being sold everywhere. “It changes you” (goodness that’s terrifying)
12:32 I immediately identified that stock footage as an experiment where a researcher managed to keep a decapitated dog head alive through the use of electricity. I'd honestly go so far as to say the real experiment was only slightly less horrific than the narrative seen here.
"You might even find you'll never want to leave. But if you do, we'll be happy to send a piece of our community home with you!" and "Tangi Water: It'll Change You" is such a secretive, sinister ending to this. Like, damn right it'll change me, by giving me a terrifying and deadly virus. This is so well made, so genuinely interesting, and also terrifying. Incredible job with this
the fact that the dingbat they use as their trade mark under the river looks exactly like a cell in the telophase stage of mitosis ie the same symbol vintage eight uses but turned 90 degrees was just perfect
For some reason, one of the creepiest parts to me is that after the boiling advisory got lifted, they kept repeating that it was lifted, and drink water straight from your tap everything is fine! And the ending line. That got me good.
Edit: wrote this before I had finished the video, sorry Honestly? I’m not personally convinced the boiling is enough. At that stage of her infection, she could have been too far gone. She paused before she continued, her word choice may well have been overridden
I've watched a lot of analogue horror. I've watched bigger creators and smaller creators. But nothing else has given me a bigger sense of Dread than this film! Especially when William's voice drops in the tapes and she says "oh god. I am infected with the tangi virus." Literally sent chills down my spine. You sir are amazing at this. Keep up the good work, and I hope to see more from you soon.
I love the idea of this "silent media war" where FPTV and those who saw Dr William's message are quietly fighting back against the contaminated parish government through TV ads, great stuff!
I don’t know why but the “Now I’ll never do anything.” being slightly more quiet than everything else, getting slightly deeper at the end, was just so upsetting. It sounds so defeated. Knowing your demise could’ve been avoided, knowing your end and the process of it being so painful. It’s literally so melancholy good GOD
This is absolutely bone chilling, I symphathize with Julia in the tangi virus situation, her trying to warn everybody but no one listening to her plead until they all got infected when the parasite took full control of the workers was so despair inducing. My jaw dropped when she said she started drugging herself while she was trying to fight off the virus and the parasites telling her to "consider them as children" filled me with dread. But besides all the horror, this analog horror has been executed very well, props to you vintage for producing this.
The best part of the Tangi Virus is when he said "It's Tangin time" and he Tangied all over the screen Why did this stupid comment get this many likes 😭 appreciate it though I don't deserve it
Dr. Williams virus endured from February to October, That being 9 months. Her pure panic as she quite literally destroys her body to prevent the Tangi virus from overtaking her. The icing on the cake being her shattered dream of wishing for someone to have a family with. The line. “Now I’ll never do anything” being so heavy impacting by the thought of someone who wanted something so badly to be taken away from them by being too friendly with someone.
Honestly, given how your pfp is a purple version of the Black Mesa Research Facility logo im assuming youve played Portal or at least know of it, it's a lot like Caroline. She wanted to just do science, but Cave Johnson abused and manipulated her into being his pet. She was forced to become GLaDOS. She was forced to give up a normal life.
Her despair at realizing that she has the virus and seeing her say how much she misses her family and how she wished to grow old, meet someone and have a family is really heartbreaking. And then knowing that in the end her efforts were in vain? I love this and oracle so much. Ya'll did so good at delivering the dread and horror!

this series hit me differently. i've watched a lot of AH, but this one stood out with some of the only ones that made me feel queasy. the line "i can feel them scratching at my skull" gave me chills.
Okay so from what i understand, her supervisor made her think that she is not alone and that they believe her, then made her drink some wine that's infected with the virus, then she got infected, since then he said "welcome to the family" and that her co-workers were infected too right? honestly i loved this video
But dang... Her supervisor knew that the virus was severe because other co-workers had it, he was there for her, and for him to turn on her and deliberately infect her with the virus? All of that eventually leading to Williams' suicide? That's giving me so many chills
@@MoonlightMirage They were all infected all along. Her supervisor was one of the first to be infected. This is why the samples were never send to the CDC. It was the virus that tried to keep its existence under wraps.
this is easily my fav analog horror. the desperate attempts julia makes in order to keep herself human and sane is just so sad, she trusted people and it led to her demise. whats truly scary about this story is the realism of it, and unknown parasite in the water is quite a real threat. you did an amazing job with this and managed to make me have immense sympathy for a character i didn’t even see or hear her actual voice.
Exactly bro like the jump scares is pretty cheap for horror. I need more of this where I think about it for days on end how amazing it was to be utterly terrified watching. 😂😂
Man, you can tell that this series had the budget of a length of string and a paperclip, but damn if it ain't higher quality than it has any right to be despite that. This is really good work. I love this, but one improvement i'd make in terms of realism would be the naming right off the bat of "The Tangi Virus". Other analog horror/traditional horror movies have written them to be like catchy things, but as someone who, like many of us, watched from the recent pandemic, they usually arent given a name like that right off the bat. For example, Swine Flu was initially known as "H1N1" as it's a strain of the influenza virus, Covid was initially "CoV-SARS-19" as its a strain of the SARS virus identified in 2019. An added touch of realism (and a method of gradually building suspense) would be to more gradually bring in the terminology and common name of the virus as the saga/series continued.
Here is my take… i don’t know if Williams would have given it that type of name. It didn’t fit into any category of virus she recognized. Plus, she was told by her supervisors that it was giardia. She wouldn’t have had the resources to give it any other classification other than unknown or nickname it. She would’ve needed the cdc or the WHO to determine that degree of classification. Also if you really want to be realistic, there is no organisms in the kindom of animalia (parasitic worms) that are smaller then a virus. The smalles worn known is Greeffiella which can be as small as 80 micrometer long which is 80000 nanometers. The biggest virus known to man is the mimivirus which is about 500-700 nanometers. A parasitic worm cannot possibly come out of a virus, its simply imposible.
@@adriancalisto3409 I think for something creepypasta-esque like that you've gotta suspend your disbelief a little bit. Although I can think of some more plausible (and also creepy) explainations. Of course if that were the case it would have made more sense as a lysogenic virus instead of a lytic one. That way an explanation of the worms being essentially re-engineered from human cells that had a pro-virus integrated into their genome could lead to some very creepy vibes. The virus is of alien origin, but the worms themselves are... human... Anyways, as a biomajor the lack of PPE in the microscope footage for a potentially hazardous pathogen seemed a little silly, but the rest of the story was intriguing!
@@blungus9574 same, the lack of ppe was very foolish even if you are considering that it is taking place in 1988. This lab seems at most a bsl 1 lab and even then this is kind of neglectful to just leaves the pipette containing hazardous fluids on the table while handling it wiith bare hands😑. Although you would at least expect a bsl-3 lab considering its an unknown and potentially dangerous pathogen.
@@adriancalisto3409 Yeah, I mean... at least wear gloves? Especially if you don't know the exact route of transmission yet. I've only ever been in bsl 2 before, but even working with benign cell cultures you typically take a lot of care not to touch anything. I imagine a lot of this was carefully found stock footage though? It's also more compelling storywise if you see people take the correct precautions and it *still* gets out.
I used to love AH horror so much as it was sort of untapped. But then it got very popular which made me happy at first but after awhile the flaws started showing. People just hopping on the trend and not doing a good job at it they just throw a static filter and text on the screen and that's about it. This is really good and fresh, you can tell tons of effort was put into this and it feels authentic and makes me investing in watching it to the end, all I have to say is you did a great job at analog horror here.
I have to disagree, it's literally every cliche and what you mentioned except for the tapes getting progressively distorted in the series, which I do have to give it credit for.

I have a little theory about how the Tangi virus works. Sometimes viruses insert parts of their genome into the genome of their host(notably, one of the ways antibiotic resistance can spread through a population of bacteria is via viruses that infect said bacteria aka bacteriophages). What if the Tangi virus is a sort of reproductive “cell” for the parasitic worms. The viruses carry part of the worm’s genome into a host cell, and combines the two genomes in such a way to make the complete worm genome(then the worms would be a specific mixture of viral and host genetic material). It could explain the tumors, if the combination goes wrong it produces a cancer cell. And wouldn’t it be scary if a virus literally turned your cells into little parasitic worms
i started watching this genre with local58 and it has been growing a lot recently, but that means now theres a lot of attempts or clones of other series out there that are just "okay". This is different. That first part, the way it was told and presented, the voice and script, along with visuals, was fantastic. It gave me a sense of despair and chills that I haven't felt in the genre for a while. Absolutely loved the first part, and the rest of it was still amazing. Good job, this was a fascinating experience.
Gemini Home Entertainment is also a good one if you like the Eldritch cosmic entities beyond human understanding like local58, and if you like disease/viruses that force you to experience life in spectator mode while still feeling pain.

As someone whose experiences with mental health had me believing that my chance at a "normal" life was ruined beyond repair, Julia's _"Now I'll never do anything"_ hits slightly too hard. 15/10, I haven't been this scared of hydration since seeing _A Cure For Wellness_ and the 2019 version of _The Color Out Of Space._
Agreed that contaminated water is an excellent horror device when executed well! Because everyone needs water to survive, and yet when people are oddly and aggressively insistent that you drink it or you witness a contamination coverup unfolding, your situation becomes increasingly desperate, as you can either drink the poison or die of dehydration.
imo they dropped the "aliens" thing too soon, it sort sort of killed some of the tension by removing the mystery behind it. that's the kind of reveal you save for the end, or just keep it open ended to keep things scary. part of what makes this format so effective is it's good at making it unclear what's causing the problems and if you up and reveal that it's from space early on, it sort of defangs the sense of unknown that's making it so scary.

By the way, I've always loved the parts with the live people, like when the Parrish President was speaking standing next to the Tangi River, or being interviewed, the voices, environments and music alike really made it feel genuinely from that time period, which you don't see much at all in the AH genre. If the footage was really from the 90s or not, it still felt very genuine and added a lot to the ambience of the series. Seriously underrated! Great work!

I mean, we basically already have brain eating amoebas in humans and chronic wasting disease in deer. Brain controlling worms? It isn’t so far fetched. The Biohazard warning actually gave me goosebumps. I didn't expect it at all, had had an impression that everyone is gonna be a bunch of mind-controlled slaves propagating the virus; the resistance bit is really freaking cool and unnerving.
I love this, because it just completely breaks out of the whole "oh the plot has to be a virus that melts people's faces" stereotype that was set. Plus the idea the virus is actually controlling people, not just making them go insane is amazing. And the cherry on top was the amazing execution of it all. Truly one of the best analog horrors.
this is the stereotype though. an alien virus that magically has the biological tools to infect humans and animals with the same strand and can pass the blood brain barrier and magically has the ability to control humans. this shit is so unrealistic and stupid
this is absolutely insane, the amount of imagery and all of the voices make the story so much more realistic. i love the analog horror category but lately they’ve all been the same. jump-scares, boring flashes, etc. but this one is different, it’s just so real. it makes you feel as if you ARE in the story. the worms, pictures, vintage filter and everything about this just seems so so real. the fact that tangipahoa is an actual place makes it equally as terrifying. love this, keep up the good work !
I really, really love this. However, the “aliens-from-outer-space-eat-your-brains” has been done several times, but this was presented in an unique way that it felt like a completely new experience. Aliens do not frighten me as much as what already exists in our planet, both known and unknown. Although I understand the goal of this project was not to frighten, it would have been interesting to see the virus originate from subterranean cave systems, where life has already been proven to exist, but we don’t research enough about.
I'm pretty sure it was les the meaning "Alien" as in "Alien from outer space" and more the meaning "Alien" As something that is from unknown origin and seemingly other worldly compared to other things we've seen. I agree about the cave systems thing, that would have been really interesting, another idea could have been (Since its water based) It came from the deep ocean, where we cannot explore.
Oh I love seeing new blood in Analog Horror- please keep up the great work this had such a perfect sense of dread. No show of monsters and excellent use of footage- now I’m wondering what some of the original sources were and how much was voice acted. An amazing watch I’m gonna put on once and awhile!
Only watched until 7:11 and it already reminds me of the equally horrifying, REAL Naegleria fowleri (the brain-eating amoeba found in freshwater, both of these are reminders to NOT swim in freshwater, resort to pools or oceans. Just because you haven't got anything doesn't mean you won't eventually.)
I’ve swam in freshwater my entire life and have never had this issue. Pretty sure I never will because it’s common sense to know these things. I also don’t inhale water into my mouth and nose while in freshwater and try to avoid getting any in my ears too.
Well…this is a hell of a bombshell. Back when I first saw the Boil Advisory compilation, I speculated that it was just a mundane water contamination problem, and that while the whistleblower had good intentions, they were over exaggerating. Now? They were right. And if the later parts are any indication, it’s too late to stop it. Congrats on the Cosmic Horror stuff.
the tangi water advert at the end is honestly an amazing sendoff. the logo looks like a worm as well as a river, and the cryptic "it'll change you!" slogan is just unsettling in every right. best 40 minutes ive ever spent, hand-down

My only qualm with the story was the voice acting of Lt. Gary Davis. It was especially the worst at 34:07 when what was supposed to be a scream of terror sounded more like a scream of excitement. Otherwise, a very very great story and I absolutely loved the weird yellow filter on the night time footage, because it reminded me of this pair of binoculars I had as a kid that had a yellow filter on them for "night vision" and it always scared the crap out of me.

i watched this a while ago and i still think about it. the moment when she says "i am infected with the tangi virus" was mind blowing and had my friends and i speechless. the fact they treated themselves with chemotherapy for dogs and other things to save herself reminds me of the gloria(?) case where she would take a sort of chemical in order to treat her cancer yet became a biohazard at the hospital
the ending of this is probably the scariest part of it. it's not too hard to piece together the facts -- the water is spreading the disease, and the parasites are desperate for new hosts. great work!
All the "Drink Water" ads are now an inside joke with my friends because we thought they were funny; the idea of a horrible virus able to control someone's mind like rabies deciding to infect Steve the local graphic artist to make TV notifications to encourage the small town residents to drink the water while fighting the notifications to not drink it is funny af 😂
It would be awesome if you could get a voice actress to read Julia's tapes now; I think having them read by an actual person would increase the immersion significantly

God hearing this bit right here “Life is a fragile gift that is delivered to us in pieces, in small moments and it only achieves it’s meaning as we cherish and blend the pieces, even the seemingly insignificant pieces into a full universal whole” always gives me chills because you could just sense how something seems off about it somehow, like the person saying all of this is within some kind of trance, brilliant.

man, a horror series set in my own home state!!! this was an incredible watch, thank you so much. i live in north louisiana near monroe, and the water here is awful. there's genuine fear of stuff being in the water that could hurt you, whether that be contaminants or microbes. but that's just louisiana for you. i also loved all the footage used. its nice to see home in a horror series!!

This was, so amazing. You really made me feel for Dr Williams. She was such a character , and there were so many lines that sent shivers down my spine and goosebumps down my arms. I will say, I can't tell where the series is meant to take place - Julia's accent sounds like she's from the UK & she mentions wanting to move to the States implying she isn't already there (if that's the case, her tapes should be marked as Day/Month/Year), but otherwise it's be in America. Unless I'm a dummy and missed a location switch.
I have utmost respect for your work!! I watched the Children Under the House cause the algorithm gave it to me and I don’t normally watch full horror series since I’m a bit of a wimp, especially for the silent static most analogue horror series have. But I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that series and now on Christmas Eve, me and my sister will be enjoying your whole catalogue!!!
Some people didn't like this because you explained too much or others complained about the pacing. I liked how you actually did explain things out. I don't always like guessing every little detail. Sometimes I like to just follow along. The pacing is great too. You did a really good job on this.
This analog horror heavily reminds me of the movie "The Bay" I'm glad more people are playing with the concept of contaminated rivers and irresponsible local governments
I love the human yet fake sounding voice it adds a whole new level of creepy to it, that and with the little tape lines you find on a VHS adds a whole new level of detail and I love it. Also that fact it gives off hints that this thing is Sentient gives me some amazing Into the Radius (it's a horror survival VR game) vibes. The detail in the thumbnail made me drop everything and think to myself "This shit looks interesting." Amazing work. Now make more of this before I blow up the bomb I have.

I really like the way this was organized. Exposing the plot a bit with the Williams tapes, yet leaving just a few details unknown, and then completing the picture with the broadcasts as we watch the disaster unfold.

This is one of the most realistic analog horrors I have ever seen. No music, no glitch effects, no creepy images jumping out at you, nothing "weird" at all. This looks exactly like a real health documentary, and that's what makes it so good.

One thing that really unnerved me about the Tangi virus is how it emotionally toyed with Julia. The virus didn't just have her killed/disappeared when she started to piece things together, it gave her false hope that she could change things make her believe that she's not alone, that others have figured it out, and then not only does it infect her, it let's her know it's infected her and seemingly takes pleasure in her horror at the realization and afterwards makes no further moves against her and lets her poison herself almost to death trying to delay its takeover of her mind and lets her suffer in pain for almost an entire year.
The virus isn't just acting in according to its nature to infect and reproduce, it is sadistic and willing to not just get rid of potential threats but outright torture them. It makes me wonder what it would've done to Dr. Stevens if it managed to get its hands on him for trying to stop it with Oracle.
On the flipside it seems as though letting her experiment on herself for 11 months gave the Oracle the means to complete their cure on time, which means that their sadism backfired on them in the long term.
If it's sentient and sadistic in a way that it doesn't make any further moves to Julia, then that means you can trick your body into thinking you're poisoning yourself so the virus, or parasite thinks that you're desperate trying to cure yourself

The wine thing was incredibly obvious and the moment it was brought up I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. But the line "how could I be so gullible?" *broke me.* All Dr Williams wanted was someone to see what she was seeing, to react to the situation with her same sense of urgency, and when she finally got that, the relief was so potent she wasn't thinking to keep her guard up against infection. It was a mistake I probably would have made in that situation. And her horror, regret, and futility is felt so well through such a simple line. The smallest oversight and for it she paid the highest price. THAT is good writing.

For real, even though it's like a robotic TTS voice, dude was able to give off emotion in that voice so damn well at the perfect time. The first time watching this was amazing. I had a feeling there was something up in the time leading up to it and started having this sense in the back of my head that she was infected, yet I still couldn't prepare for the impact of the revelation.
The thing that makes this scary/creepy to me is that I live in Louisiana and virus/bacteria being in the water is a somewhat common occurrence here. It feels like every few years some kid jumps into the water and gets his brain eaten by some microscopic organism.
That legit terrifies me.

In southern plaquemines, we rarely have boil alerts but hear of them a lot in other parishes, its either some creature/virus/bacteria or what I've heard recently of a leaking sewer line in the tap water for an extended period of time. Majority of people in the surrounding area end up with cancer and lesions covering the body. To sit there and know you're dying and wonder for months what could've caused it then to find out its sheer negligence that could've been simply prevented. Don't trust those in charge of water, don't drink from the tap. Water is life. It shouldn't cause death.

12:32 I immediately identified that stock footage as an experiment where a researcher managed to keep a decapitated dog head alive through the use of electricity. I'd honestly go so far as to say the real experiment was only slightly less horrific than the narrative seen here.

I don’t know why but the “Now I’ll never do anything.” being slightly more quiet than everything else, getting slightly deeper at the end, was just so upsetting. It sounds so defeated. Knowing your demise could’ve been avoided, knowing your end and the process of it being so painful. It’s literally so melancholy good GOD
This is absolutely bone chilling, I symphathize with Julia in the tangi virus situation, her trying to warn everybody but no one listening to her plead until they all got infected when the parasite took full control of the workers was so despair inducing. My jaw dropped when she said she started drugging herself while she was trying to fight off the virus and the parasites telling her to "consider them as children" filled me with dread. But besides all the horror, this analog horror has been executed very well, props to you vintage for producing this.

Dr. Williams virus endured from February to October, That being 9 months. Her pure panic as she quite literally destroys her body to prevent the Tangi virus from overtaking her. The icing on the cake being her shattered dream of wishing for someone to have a family with. The line. “Now I’ll never do anything” being so heavy impacting by the thought of someone who wanted something so badly to be taken away from them by being too friendly with someone.

this is easily my fav analog horror. the desperate attempts julia makes in order to keep herself human and sane is just so sad, she trusted people and it led to her demise. whats truly scary about this story is the realism of it, and unknown parasite in the water is quite a real threat. you did an amazing job with this and managed to make me have immense sympathy for a character i didn’t even see or hear her actual voice.
Finally, an analog horror with good writing and not polluted with jump scared or creepy images.

I love this, but one improvement i'd make in terms of realism would be the naming right off the bat of "The Tangi Virus". Other analog horror/traditional horror movies have written them to be like catchy things, but as someone who, like many of us, watched from the recent pandemic, they usually arent given a name like that right off the bat. For example, Swine Flu was initially known as "H1N1" as it's a strain of the influenza virus, Covid was initially "CoV-SARS-19" as its a strain of the SARS virus identified in 2019. An added touch of realism (and a method of gradually building suspense) would be to more gradually bring in the terminology and common name of the virus as the saga/series continued.
Here is my take… i don’t know if Williams would have given it that type of name. It didn’t fit into any category of virus she recognized. Plus, she was told by her supervisors that it was giardia. She wouldn’t have had the resources to give it any other classification other than unknown or nickname it. She would’ve needed the cdc or the WHO to determine that degree of classification.

Also if you really want to be realistic, there is no organisms in the kindom of animalia (parasitic worms) that are smaller then a virus. The smalles worn known is Greeffiella which can be as small as 80 micrometer long which is 80000 nanometers. The biggest virus known to man is the mimivirus which is about 500-700 nanometers. A parasitic worm cannot possibly come out of a virus, its simply imposible.
@@adriancalisto3409 I think for something creepypasta-esque like that you've gotta suspend your disbelief a little bit. Although I can think of some more plausible (and also creepy) explainations.
Of course if that were the case it would have made more sense as a lysogenic virus instead of a lytic one. That way an explanation of the worms being essentially re-engineered from human cells that had a pro-virus integrated into their genome could lead to some very creepy vibes.
The virus is of alien origin, but the worms themselves are... human...
Anyways, as a biomajor the lack of PPE in the microscope footage for a potentially hazardous pathogen seemed a little silly, but the rest of the story was intriguing!

This lab seems at most a bsl 1 lab and even then this is kind of neglectful to just leaves the pipette containing hazardous fluids on the table while handling it wiith bare hands😑. Although you would at least expect a bsl-3 lab considering its an unknown and potentially dangerous pathogen.

I've only ever been in bsl 2 before, but even working with benign cell cultures you typically take a lot of care not to touch anything. It's also more compelling storywise if you see people take the correct precautions and it *still* gets out.
I used to love AH horror so much as it was sort of untapped. But then it got very popular which made me happy at first but after awhile the flaws started showing. People just hopping on the trend and not doing a good job at it they just throw a static filter and text on the screen and that's about it. This is really good and fresh, you can tell tons of effort was put into this and it feels authentic and makes me investing in watching it to the end, all I have to say is you did a great job at analog horror here.

I feel this has put more effort than many others, this actually feels like a documentary and not just cropped photos, it doesn’t rely on jumpscares, and builds atmosphere and has a genuine good story. I have a little theory about how the Tangi virus works. Sometimes viruses insert parts of their genome into the genome of their host(notably, one of the ways antibiotic resistance can spread through a population of bacteria is via viruses that infect said bacteria aka bacteriophages). What if the Tangi virus is a sort of reproductive “cell” for the parasitic worms. The viruses carry part of the worm’s genome into a host cell, and combines the two genomes in such a way to make the complete worm genome(then the worms would be a specific mixture of viral and host genetic material). It could explain the tumors, if the combination goes wrong it produces a cancer cell. And wouldn’t it be scary if a virus literally turned your cells into little parasitic worms

True. You know, one of the main reasons I wrote the sequel was to put a more positive spin on that character.
i started watching this genre with local58 and it has been growing a lot recently, but that means now theres a lot of attempts or clones of other series out there that are just "okay". This is different. That first part, the way it was told and presented, the voice and script, along with visuals, was fantastic. It gave me a sense of despair and chills that I haven't felt in the genre for a while. Absolutely loved the first part, and the rest of it was still amazing. Agreed that contaminated water is an excellent horror device when executed well! Because everyone needs water to survive, and yet when people are oddly and aggressively insistent that you drink it or you witness a contamination coverup unfolding, your situation becomes increasingly desperate, as you can either drink the poison or die of dehydration.
imo they dropped the "aliens" thing too soon, it sort sort of killed some of the tension by removing the mystery behind it. that's the kind of reveal you save for the end, or just keep it open ended to keep things scary. part of what makes this format so effective is it's good at making it unclear what's causing the problems and if you up and reveal that it's from space early on, it sort of defangs the sense of unknown that's making it so scary.

I’ve been dipping my toe into analog horror, and it’s always these sort of videos that frighten me the most. I mean, we basically already have brain eating amoebas in humans and chronic wasting disease in deer. Brain controlling worms? It isn’t so far fetched. I live in NW Ohio where there’s a lot of standing water and lakes, this sent a chill down my spine

I love how a new genre of horror has allowed everybody to create interesting stories at the cost of almost nothing.
The Biohazard warning actually gave me goosebumps. I didn't expect it at all, had had an impression that everyone is gonna be a bunch of mind-controlled slaves propagating the virus; the resistance bit is really freaking cool and unnerving.

I love this, because it just completely breaks out of the whole "oh the plot has to be a virus that melts people's faces" stereotype that was set. Plus the idea the virus is actually controlling people, not just making them go insane is amazing. And the cherry on top was the amazing execution of it all. Truly one of the best analog horrors.

this is the stereotype though. an alien virus that magically has the biological tools to infect humans and animals with the same strand and can pass the blood brain barrier and magically has the ability to control humans. this shit is so unrealistic and stupid
this is absolutely insane, the amount of imagery and all of the voices make the story so much more realistic. i love the analog horror category but lately they’ve all been the same. jump-scares, boring flashes, etc. but this one is different, it’s just so real. it makes you feel as if you ARE in the story. the worms, pictures, vintage filter and everything about this just seems so so real. the fact that tangipahoa is an actual place makes it equally as terrifying. love this, keep up the good work !

I really, really love this. However, the “aliens-from-outer-space-eat-your-brains” has been done several times, but this was presented in an unique way that it felt like a completely new experience.
Aliens do not frighten me as much as what already exists in our planet, both known and unknown. Although I understand the goal of this project was not to frighten, it would have been interesting to see the virus originate from subterranean cave systems, where life has already been proven to exist, but we don’t research enough about.

I'm pretty sure it was les the meaning "Alien" as in "Alien from outer space" and more the meaning "Alien" As something that is from unknown origin and seemingly other worldly compared to other things we've seen.
I agree about the cave systems thing, that would have been really interesting, another idea could have been (Since its water based) It came from the deep ocean, where we cannot explore.

Only watched until 7:11 and it already reminds me of the equally horrifying, REAL Naegleria fowleri (the brain-eating amoeba found in freshwater, both of these are reminders to NOT swim in freshwater, resort to pools or oceans. Just because you haven't got anything doesn't mean you won't eventually.)

My take - a lot of areas in that particular river are slow moving. Also, it’s alien so the rules are bound to be different.
I’ve swam in freshwater my entire life and have never had this issue. Pretty sure I never will because it’s common sense to know these things. I also don’t inhale water into my mouth and nose while in freshwater and try to avoid getting any in my ears too.

Back when I first saw the Boil Advisory compilation, I speculated that it was just a mundane water contamination problem, and that while the whistleblower had good intentions, they were over exaggerating.
Now?
They were right. And if the later parts are any indication, it’s too late to stop it.

the tangi water advert at the end is honestly an amazing sendoff. the logo looks like a worm as well as a river, and the cryptic "it'll change you!" slogan is just unsettling in every right.

My only qualm with the story was the voice acting of Lt. Gary Davis. It was especially the worst at 34:07 when what was supposed to be a scream of terror sounded more like a scream of excitement. Otherwise, a very very great story and I absolutely loved the weird yellow filter on the night time footage, because it reminded me of this pair of binoculars I had as a kid that had a yellow filter on them for "night vision" and it always scared the crap out of me.

i watched this a while ago and i still think about it. the moment when she says "i am infected with the tangi virus" was mind blowing and had my friends and i speechless. the fact they treated themselves with chemotherapy for dogs and other things to save herself reminds me of the gloria(?) case where she would take a sort of chemical in order to treat her cancer yet became a biohazard at the hospital

Oh my lord. This is truely the best analog style horror I have seen. It doesn’t rely on cheap scares, and all through the video, you have an unshakable sense of unease.

man, a horror series set in my own home state!!! this was an incredible watch, thank you so much. i live in north louisiana near monroe, and the water here is awful. there's genuine fear of stuff being in the water that could hurt you, whether that be contaminants or microbes. but that's just louisiana for you.

This was, so amazing. You really made me feel for Dr Williams. She was such a character , and there were so many lines that sent shivers down my spine and goosebumps down my arms. "I feel them scratching at my skull." I let out a REAL gasp. This was so amazingly terrifying, when she died I almost shed a tear. She fought so hard to cure this thing and it was so gut wrenching. "How could i be so gullible?" SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD 😭i felt so BAD for her . So watching the sequel

every thing at the end was creepy, especially when the voice said “We’ll be happy to send a piece of are community home with you too.” With this being different from other analog horror and being more realistic and no random images showing up. nice job with this!

This is an amazing piece of art. It’s not like other analogue horror series where the danger is something far fetched. The idea a virus could do something like this seems quite real. This has gotta be one of my favorite ones in terms or analogue horror

I will say, I can't tell where the series is meant to take place - Julia's accent sounds like she's from the UK & she mentions wanting to move to the States implying she isn't already there (if that's the case, her tapes should be marked as Day/Month/Year), but otherwise it's be in America. Unless I'm a dummy and missed a location switch.

I watched the Children Under the House cause the algorithm gave it to me and I don’t normally watch full horror series since I’m a bit of a wimp, especially for the silent static most analogue horror series have. Some people didn't like this because you explained too much or others complained about the pacing. I liked how you actually did explain things out. I don't always like guessing every little detail. Sometimes I like to just follow along. The pacing is great too. You did a really good job on this.
This analog horror heavily reminds me of the movie "The Bay" I'm glad more people are playing with the concept of contaminated rivers and irresponsible local governments
I love the human yet fake sounding voice it adds a whole new level of creepy to it, that and with the little tape lines you find on a VHS adds a whole new level of detail and I love it. Also that fact it gives off hints that this thing is Sentient gives me some amazing Into the Radius (it's a horror survival VR game) vibes. The detail in the thumbnail made me drop everything and think to myself "This shit looks interesting." Amazing work. Now make more of this before I blow up the bomb I have.

I really like the way this was organized. Exposing the plot a bit with the Williams tapes, yet leaving just a few details unknown, and then completing the picture with the broadcasts as we watch the disaster unfold.
