    Versa tube is fully customizable. It's a 30x30 with a 16 ft pitch. I ordered my building with the door opening on the side. They also delivered the building for me to build. A word of caution it is overwhelming to put a building of large size together, and when I noticed that I could not/ had a hard time in TN to find someone to build it for a reasonable cost. But the Versa tube building is really Nice!

      I appreciate it a lot. Mostly gettin called a class act … but subscribing is a serious help to the channel, so thank you. I am glad it’s helpful. I would encourage you to read the comments on the video. I had a great experience with Carolina ( and I am in no way sponsored by either). But it seemed that people that have contracted with them more recently have had trouble. This building was installed in 2015-2016. Installed on time and had held up great. Best of luck on getting yours up and running soon

    This video is so helpful. I have the same dilemma on my property. I have an existing building with the same footprint. my building has a wooden substructure that absorbs too much headspace for my liking. Based on your video and information, I believe my best option would be to take the existing building down, add to my existing 20x20 slab, with another 20x20 slab, and then contact Carolina carport to complete the project. My goal was to have an enclosed woodshop with an open barbeque shed connected. Thanks for the information. I have been considering both companies and I have the same design problem. Thank you much.

    Thanks brother. This video really helped me make the decision. My skill level is like a 2 when it comes to working on anything construction related. I was dreading the pain, frustration, and tears I knew I would experience with Versatube, but at the same time I couldn't fork out $20k for a local company to build me a standard metal building. I was going to suck it up and prepare for many nights and weekends of hardship. When I saw Alan's Factory Outlet I thought it was some cheap gimmick. This video has me ready to click the purchase button. Gotta get my shop bad built first :) Much thanks again

    Great video! Very informative. I live in Arizona. I agree, the Carolina looks like the better option with the design, ceiling height, cost and the no brainer part - that they erect it as part of the cost. Does Carolina ship and install all over the US, or only the east coast?

      thanks man... i have no stake in any of these companies but it seems in my research that alans, Carolina and carports and more all sell a similar if not identical product. maybe one of them is in your area if Carolina doesn't deliver there... but they might too

  • @confidentlocal8600
    @confidentlocal8600 Год назад

    What about the bracing in the upper corners? I've looked at similar buildings locally (they all seem to use the same designs), and they're just held in by two machine screws at each end, which will be in shear during a high wind event. Seems like they should be fastened better.

    • @betweenthesharksgarage
      @betweenthesharksgarage  Год назад +1

      Not exactly sure about the engineering of that but the sleeves fit pretty tight together. So you really would need a directly vertical lift to get them out. While shearing the screws at the same time. I would expect that under very very heavy wind conditions. The nailing schedule on the roof panels would fail first and it would roll open like a sardine can rather than tearing the framing structure apart, or lifting it like sail.
      We do have some pretty substantial storms in the southeast nothing compared to Midwest weather, but whatever the math or luck is, is holding up

    Do they have an option that allows the roof panels to run the right direction?

    • @betweenthesharksgarage
      @betweenthesharksgarage  2 года назад

      well... yes... versatube calls that their "pinnacle series" and Carolina has a vertical roof option. However they are additional cost option. It seems to me that the majority of manufactures use the 5 rib roofing as a structural component to tie the "trusses" together. So the vertical roof requires extra framing structure to catch the 3' Ribbed panels as the trusses are spaced every 5'. In addition you need a ridge cap where as with the horizontal roofing the piece at the ridge folds over both sides. Personally the horizontal roof may be slightly less advantageous when it comes to watershed, however the stuctural gains are immense. i think that taking advantage of the fact that the 5 rib roofing is very strong in the horizontal orientation is the way to go.

    Do you think that welding the pieces together vs using the sheet metal screws is a better idea or does the building need to flex????

    • @betweenthesharksgarage
      @betweenthesharksgarage  2 года назад +1

      No I don’t think it needs to be welded. If I am being totally honest it was for my sanity. It requires driving many hundreds of screws and the screws they supply are cheap coated screws so one out of three would not self drill. So I had to predrill… it was a pain. I knew I could weld it well and it was faster. It was so exhausting to put up I knew then and there I would never take it apart to move it. The savings would not be with the labor in my mind

    After watching the video, I wanted to make sure you said that with Carolina, the cost of the foundation (about 19:00 into video) was included with the price (the cost for setting up the concrete pad)? I've been looking to do a garage and am trying to come up with costs. Thanks

    • @betweenthesharksgarage
      @betweenthesharksgarage  2 года назад

      no sorry, it was indeed not included. Concrete costs are significant and vary greatly depending on your location and the codes associated with footing depths etc ... I had a contractor pour the concrete as I ordered the building to fit

    • @jfj794
      @jfj794 Год назад +2

      When you price a monolithic pad with footers, you will pass out. Probably double what the building cost. Put it on the ground, add rock or ROC and come back later when inflation comes down or pour the pad yourself in sections as you go. My suggestions l, which nobody ever listens to, especially my children. lol

    Glad to see it completed. Yeah, not sure why Versa Tube or Carolina doesn't offer a 'side drive in' option on the rake wall. I wanted to be able to store 3 old Packard parts cars in the dry so I ended up going with another company that I understand outsources to Carolina Carport. I went with the 24x25 with the gable ends open, but I see that would not work in connecting your situation. Is that a '50's Merc?

    • @betweenthesharksgarage
      @betweenthesharksgarage  2 года назад +1

      I have no issues with condensation in either building despite high humidity and common 25 degree temperature changes in a day. Not sure why... maybe because they both have vapor barriers? Maybe because neither building is well sealed? The carolina building allows air in at the corners and the soffits as the installers did not install anything to close the v grooves in the sheet metal at the ends of the building. not sure if this is common practice to leave them open, maybe it helps keep it stable... dont know

      Look at reviews on them. They stole $7000 from us. They didn't give the correct foundation specifications and lied several times about doing so. Even when giving them proof, they denied doing so and stopped communicating altogether. The salesman blames the manufacturer, which are not related companies. The installers are 3rd party and only put up what they are given. In my case that was nothing. What they wanted to supply would not work because all toilet and shower drains would have ended up in the wall. We tried to work with them with no luck at all.
