I've pulled my transmission several times and am about to do it again for a rebuild. It always takes longer. I don't have a lift so I am stuck doing it on the ground which adds a lot of getting up and down off the ground. The standing up and laying down is the worst part of having to do it. I like the order you did the removal, so I will likely incorporate that into how I do it this weekend.
First, thank you. This is extremely helpful. Second, where do you find those slide in adapters for the transmission jack head that create those vertical standoffs for the oil pan bolt rail flange? I can't find them anywhere!
I rotate the engine in the direction it runs to prevent a water pump fails. You made it look easy and quick, i was watching to see what you did with big harness as it came down. I guess it stays with the fuel lines?
If you use the same Transmission control Module you don't have to reprogram it. If you get a new or different one you need to program it to the vehicle. It is inside the Transmission.
@@TonyG-z6i You need to find a mobile programmer or take it to the dealer. Your local Trans shop can point you in the right direction, mabey they can do it. We have a mobile programmer that comes and does ours.
Cheverlot has swapped my trans twice. 2nd time it was under warranty. The first time it was 3 days after an oil change which had me puzzled. It was working fine until that oil change. Now… 3 weeks after that transmission swap. 3 bolts have broken and my engine makes a weird noise. 3500 dollars. I need a bicycle.
When you put a brand new transmission in a 2015 Silverado 1500, does the new transmission have to be programmed to the vehicle? I heard someone say it does, but idk for sure. Reason for asking, my trans is going out and I wanna know ahead of time. Thanks in advance!
Yes. The TCM is inside the Transmission and will need to be programmed to the truck. If you are doing the job yourself make sure you also flush the transmission cooler. The most common problem with these is the torque converter fails. It then puts a bunch of metal in the cooler.
@@mechanicgray brother since ure so helpful and respond quick, can u gimme a tip where the vent hose end goes the one that goes up into the engine? Im installing mine rn, one hose onto tranny tube, second end just hanging off the transfer case, but where does the 3rd end go? Turned all internet upside down cant find answer.
@@jamesethan3749 One hose from the transfer case to the bracket on the top bell housing bolt. Second hose goes from Trans vent to a plastic tee. Then one end goes up to said bracket the other end usually goes the a clip on the crossmember.

I agree. Doing this on the ground is twice as hard. Good luck. 👍
Starting a pull on a '17 for a friend today. I'm going to do what you did. Thanks much!
Hope it helps. If you have questions put them here and I will respond. 🤘
thank you bro this helps me remove my 6.2 that seized at the crank.

Hey no problem. I'm not sure where we got them. I'll ask and let you know.
Perfect this is what im talking about great video!

Thank you so much for this video man
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
16:55 great uncut video of the trans, thank you. Question do you need to learn/read the old trans and write to the new one on the 6L 80?
Yes. If you change the transmission it needs to be programmed.
Ayyy farmers repair coming in clutch to aid in my install 🙌🏻 prolly be easier to have yall install my new one 😅
I like watching your video seems like I might be able to take mine out
Thanks 👍 Hope it helps

Damn that sucks. Don't think the oil change had to do with it. Sometimes stuff just happens at wired times.
Do you have a video of reinstalling this 6L80 or similar transmission?
I do not sorry. Same process just reverse.
Yo Yo. Ive got a install video going live at 4pm. Thought I'd let you know. 🤘
Does the truck have to be left in neutral to spin the motor and remove convertor bolts?
No. I do put it in neutral though to be able to turn the drive shaft so its easier to take the bolts out.
“Then I go get a buddy to help lower it down” 😂😂😂😂cuhmon buddy it’s like a 80 pound t case at most.
Im only 155. 80 is enough 😂😂😂
You can put a strap on it and over the torsion bar support and slowly let down by strap.
Is it possible to replace the plug in on the transmission?
Yes. It's part of the valve body harness that is located in the pan.

Was this a 5.3 or a 4.3 engine?
5.3L
2017 does it need to be programmed
It’s a manufactured transmission
Yes it will need to be programmed.
So I would need to take it to a dealership after the new manufacture transmission is installed
