Great video and information. My TC failed at 82K miles and shredded my transmission. Fortunately for me my 2014 was still under its 100k mile powertrain warranty so I had it repaired for free though it took two and a half weeks. My transmission was so trashed I actually got a new one and not a reman. I also got the upgraded TC installed as well at no cost to me.
im at 113K miles on my 2016 Sierra and i think my TC and tans are toast, I was able to get a trans off a 2018 silverado LT with 5K miles on it (same 6L80 trans). The truck was totaled but trans still good. planning on doing the swap in a week. my questions are: do you think any programming/relearn is required for the whole trans swap? secondly, while its down should i upgrade the torque converter or just use the OEM?
@@utrocker7 I would definitely upgrade the TC. That's what caused my trans to fail. As for the programming, my guess is it will need to be reprogrammed or at least a relearn for sure.
Confirmed! My TCC failed with 108k on the clock in my '17. Went with a reman trans. It is my belief that the AFM operation makes the TCC work much harder and thus reduces its already short life.
I believe that as well. Also contributes to the known cylinder misfire due to stuck lifter issue. I bought a $60 device to plug in the OBD port that disables the AFM and man does it ever respond better.
I've been a professional mechanic for over 40 years. I would never replace a torque converter without first replacing the torque converter seal. The seal has got over 100k mikes on it. It's going be running on a new surface. It is 10 times more work to replace it after it's all put back together.
Do you have the OEM part number for that on the 6l80? Think I screwed myself, potentially. Didn’t replace the seal and I’m having to add a ton of pressure to get the converter to stay locked. It either locks smoothly but slips with applied throttle, or locks super harshly and doesn’t slip as often. Thoughts on if it’s that seal, as well as the part number, if you know it?
Great video. I had that same issue of transmission shudder in my 2017 Sierra at 30K miles. The dealer replaced the fluid. It happened again at 57K miles and this time they replaced the torque converter. I was glad I purchased the 100K power train warranty when I bought the truck, I have 10 months left on it!
The common problem with these transmission is the failure of the main pressure regulator valve in the pump, which drops the line pressure on these unit. In the early model the output shaft had a design where it also cleaned the fluids by catching debris with centrifugal force as you drove the vehicle around. Early unit use to go up to 200k miles with very little service. Then gm change the design of the out put shaft and more metal shaving (practical's) from the planetary sets started to float around in the fluid. So it is paramount to change the fluid on these units every 25 to 30k miles. Changing fluids on these units will help prolong the life of these tranny. Please do a complete transmission fluid service as you are installing a brand new Converter. Hope this helps and most likely you have done the oil change on it.
@@davidouradnik7925 No it does not set a code for a worn pressure regulator valve. Most of the time it will pick up a clutch pack is slipping code or solonied performance.
I have a shudder and no codes. I'd like to just change the torque converter but everyone says it won't work or it won't last. Never overheated it or burnt the fluid, and the fluid has been changed several times and looks good.
The ZL1 converter has a dual disc lockup clutch, and should have a slightly higher stall speed. Pop a new seal in the front of your trans since you are there! Pack the seal lip with grease, apply some lube to the torque converter shaft OD, and let er' rip. Thanks for the vid.
I got 195,099 miles out of mine. But it went full self destruct within 15 miles…. Started to feel a little bit of a slip.. then started up a pretty good grade and it literally started screaming, and I lost all but 1 st gear. Luckily I was only a few miles from home and limped into the driveway… replacing it with an updated L6-80 C-5… apparently this is a better option for replacement.
Good to know that it failed that early. I am planning to swap to a billet converter around 200K miles which would be around 92K miles total. Sitting at 136K roughly right now but maybe I will change it earlier.
Love your videos man. I plan to do the same DOD/AFM delete to my truck by following along your videos. Definitely going to look into a torque converter swap now too
Thank you for this video - have a 6L90E in mine, but mileage is quite low so far. Am surprised you didn't change out the front main seal of the transmission - it's right there, and super cheap and convenient at that stage =)
Generally you don't mess with rear mains unless they're leaking. Better off keeping it sealed because it's hard to get a good seal replacing it. We do that with Allison builds. If the rear main is good, it stays
my truck is at 180k still no failures knock on wood, 2014 5.3 420hp with tune and running e 85- just did a transmission fluid change and didn't see any metal on the magnet really. looked pretty clean compared to what iv seen. but looking into maybe changing the converter while everything is still working as it should
Not sure how the ZL1/CTS-V 6L90 converter holds up (haven't seen any get replaced at work yet) but the 6L90 HD truck converters seem to the same crap as the 6L80 truck ones. We've put converters or worse in plenty 2014-2018 model year trucks. Sad. 07-13 trucks I don't think we've done all of one or two of them at most.
@@andresneira9745 Are you talking the Mobil 1 HP fluid? That's only for the 8 speed transmissions. The 6 speed just run any good Dexron 6 ATF so GM, Amsoil, Mobil, etc. Dexron 6 for the 6 speeds, Mobil LV ATF HP Blue Label for 8 speed.
@@andresneira9745 Changing it will put fresh fluid in which will replace and replenish the additives used to regulate clutch slippage so changing it is still good to do. Every 40-50K, especially if you tow.

IDK how much the factory gm converter is, but you can find aftermarket billet cover stock stall single disc lock-up converters now for around $500. I went with a unit sold by trans star. Iirc these units are made by a company out of ohio and sold through trans star.
@johnnybobgoldstein2823 all 10 I've installed are still on the road with 0 issues. They also had the afm and pwm tc lockup turned off via tune. I have over 175k on my personal with this exact converter.
@The Sundae Drive, thank you very much for this & your other instructional videos, very helpful!! I have a 6L80 transmission in my 2010 Chevy Avalanche 5.3L, but my TC hasn't failed yet (~130K). Questions: 1) Do you know how much of a different a billet makes - and is your answer based on what you're driving/towing, or overall longevity? 2) RockAuto suggests for me: TC Remfg. B85JMBX (Standard), HDB85JMBX (Heavy-Duty Billet), or B85JMBXF (Flanged Hub). I was considering one of those, but after referring to your 6L80/6L90 article, sounds like I probably shouldn't consider those for replacements? 3) I saw another guy suggests getting a L6-80 (made for Corvette C5) - did you ever look into that? (I'm basically wondering what sold you on the GM 6L90 (24242552)? Thanks!!
In the last 2 weeks, my 2014 GMC Sierra sle (131k miles) with the 5.3L started to shift in and out a bit randomly, also occasionally makes a rumble strip feeling at highway speeds when going up hills with just a bit of throttle applied. I just had the dealership do a transmission flush and it is better but not fixed. Dealership said it could just be the torque converter but recommended a full transmission replacement anyways at $5,200 and change. I’m considering my options. I’m handy and have tools, but more carpenter than mechanic. Do I try to save the $1,000 and drop the transmission and replace torque converter to see if it works before spending $5,200 on a replacement?
If the flush made it better in my opinion there is a good chance the transmission is ok and the torque converter may be starting to disintegrate and clog the lines. To me it's worth a shot because the torque converter will need to be replaced regardless. Is the transmission slipping at all? The sooner you replace it, the better chance you have of saving it if that is the issue. That is just my opinion tho as it is hard to know for sure without opening it up
I haven’t noticed it slipping at all. How difficult is it to replace? Easier to pull the tranny out to get at it or the motor? I think the dealer was thinking that if replacing the torque converter, may as well switch the tranny too since it would be out.
Easier to pull the transmission for sure. If you are doing the labor I'd only do the transfer case. A good shop can probably do it in 6 hours or less I would imagine. I've never pulled the trans myself so not positive.
The thing like rumble strips is the torque converter clutch starting to fail. It is random slippage of the clutch that shakes the torque converter. It is commonly referred to as torque converter shudder.
You are lucky! I would pre-emptively change it before it happens again. Normally they last 80-120K from what I've seen. If you tow a low you'll probably be on the lower end of that range.
The 6l80e torque converter is constantly slipping that's why they fail. Get the 80 tuned to only lock in 5th and 6th. Raise the pressure and they are good
As I sit at the dealer watching this video. 130k. Just started feeling some irregularities. Dealer is doing some diagnostics for me. The tech mentioned tc failures. Will know more shortly. Ive watched a few videos and they all seam to be well done. Feel like I’ll be watching more soon. 🤦🏻♂️
@@TheSundaeDrive worst news. Tc failure, transmission failing. Got a quote. I think I’m going to call and make arrangements tomorrow. Just a bit out of my capabilities. Enjoy watching your videos though.
Be careful when you tighten the fill and drain plugs, they are tapered plugs and if you over tighten them you can crack the transfer case at the holes.... Lesson learned the hard way, don't make my mistake!!
I bought my 11 Sierra LC9 from an elderly local Guy who's a life long GM buyer. He babied the truck as youd expect with all services at the dealership I bought her from. Making the records as easy as it gets for me. I'm a builder so I'm hard on the truck but that's why we buy trucks right? We have the heaviest available package for the 03' year in the 2500hd 6.0 for the severe pulls/loads and she's bulletproof. However!! 3 years ago I pulled out 6'-10' dump trailer with my half ton! Just to get 3 yards of 3/4" gravel for my own house needed for a walk way. Told the guy out in the local yard what I wanted he said no problem so I figure great I'm heading in to pay as he knew his shit and how to properly load......I come out of the office and he says you're all set man the 3yrads of gravels loaded I said thanks and see you around.... Fckn guy didn't know that the new Bobcat wasn't equipped with the same half yard bucket oh no it had a yard bucket so his SIX FULL BUCKETS almost filled our dump trailer so I'm looking at it like WTF!?? I double checked that's only 3 yards man you're sure and he replied ya man I've been doing this almost as long as youve been alive, what's wrong....so I go back to me truck fire her up and put it in 4wd full on as both axles on the dump were showing a load to put it mildly. The 11' HALF TON! in tow haul got that load moving very easy, but I have no electric brake control in the truck as we have a real full on work horse for that lol and stopping that load was very hard. Knowing something is way off I pulled it to the shop and hooked the work truck to her. It was 6 yards at 3000 pounds plus the dump about 2000 pounds the truck pulled up some long steady grades to get to the shop. So that is legitimately 20,000 pounds my HALF TON was forced to pull and to stop! Honestly she impressed me so much easily pulling the load I was double guessing that old timer way overloaded it, but trying to stop that load took every skill I had so I knew it was over. At the shop I rolled the mesh cover up and inspected the load myself closely this time. I was extremely pissed off as one clear look even a city boy could tell that's way more than 3 fckn yards man. Had no choice but to pull her to the shop once I left. Between being very disappointed with myself for trusting the old timer down there so much as it is ultimately my responsibility for what I pull with my truck, yet at the same time I, along with all the guys there were absolutely blown away the half ton Sierra pulled that 20,000 plus pound load so easily. They all witnessed me completely stop on the slight grade so a couple trucks could move outta my way, then have to get all that weight rolling again and it did make all 8 cylinders work but she had power to spare! The 2500hd equipped with the heaviest possible setup/package even offered by GM actually had abit harder time getting the load moving even with 4.11 ring&pinion....but the random dumps brakes made all the difference so I decided to pull her all the way home a half hr drive purely uphill by taking all the back roads going slow an easy allowing anyone behind me to pass. That load was thousands of pounds above even the HD work truck built for it capacity, but the way that 11' LC9 with the 6L80 and 3.52 (I can't remember exact ratio but close enough) ring& pinion pulled that load making it so effortlessly even the Ford guys with diesel were the first to say that's beyond impressive. Absolutely STUPID! A combination of mistakes/stupidity lead to that. I am telling the truth entirely and ya it's embarrassing as it gets to admit that even tho I know better I STILL pulled off that drop dead stupid move, yet the truck took it. That gravel was moist as hell but doesn't hold water like sand, still the 3000 pounds per yard is a conservative figure, and there was a full 6 yards in that 1ton dump (rated to haul 4 tons itself) That's pushing as hard as a guy can to break his truck or have problems of some sort, yet our trucks stepped up, took that ass whippin and just carried on. I definitely got LUCKY and would never allow it to happen again, but the fact remains that the 2011 Sierra 1500 LC9-6L80 3.52 R&P pulled over 20,000LBs off the fckn hitch (rated 10,000LBs max) mostly uphill. Well done GM👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸🤯

@@TheSundaeDrive it's crazy what we do at times, but the fact we know better in the first place is the funny part in the end. If we damage our trucks being that stupid then we man up, complain as we're lowering the tranny down and out but after a week or 2 we laugh. The times we get LUCKY we also know enough that it's nothing to brag about lol I love the 78' GM trucks as an example, but a 78 half ton had no chance of pulling that 20,000lb trailer man let's face it a dam 3/4 ton of the era would be extremely sketchy. But our new trucks we curse out when say a tank pressure sensor goes bad dropping that 5volt circuit putting the truck in limp mode, the truck screaming at us turn off engine immediately as there's no oil pressure! But we know there is. So we gotta hook up the volt meter to the battery ground, other terminal to the grey wire on the MAP sensor watching the meter as we unplug 1 sensor at a time until the 5 volts comes back......but at the end of the day they really have come incredibly far. Fckn 1500 now is equal if not stronger than the old 3/4's an there on up I guess it's the beauty of such a competitive market 👍🇺🇸
Always replace the o-ring on the splined shaft, you should also have the transmission tuned to not allow TCC clutch to slip so much. I use Hptuners and bluecat software. And dont ever buy a reman converter unless you want to do the job twice.
Thanks for the information! Got an 07 Yukon Denali at 181k. Transmission is acting up a bit and suspecting the torque converter is on the way out. Going to install a billet TC from Circle D and replace a rear main seal. Wish me luck!
@@brandon367011 Yeah, both worked great. The leak was primarily the rear main seal, but also a leak in the plenium cover. The new torque conver also workes great! I am curious that since the 6l90 converter is heavier, more mass, does it affect revving quickness or milagage?? It would be nice to hear from people who have done this mod and not just speculation, Thanks!
Old comment, but my dad's 2012 just got a new 6L90 after his transmission died at 187k. It mostly drives the same in terms of "quickness", but the transmission feels a lot heavier when it shifts which honestly is better than the sloppy feeling of the 6L80s. My dad likes it more than when it was stock.
My 2015 Silverado had this issue at 55k miles. It was still under warranty but the whole transmission had to be rebuilt. It got debris and wouldn't move once that debris clogged it up. If I let the truck sit for awhile then start it, it would move for a few minutes but then it would stop. All fixed under warranty though.
that stinks man - you were fortunate it occurred while under warranty. Can't believe it failed with such low mileage - most of the failures we have heard about were at 80K and above.
@@TheSundaeDrive i believe it was the torque converter at least. It's been a few years. I'd have to find the report from the dealer but I know it said they found debris that was clogging it up. The truck is at 85k now and I haven't had any issues!
My 2015 is doing it, just turned 50k. What makes no sense to me is that I purposely had the truck tuned by Diablew to prevent (delay) any future transmission issues. Didn’t really start doing it until after I tuned it and driving it on the interstate more instead of short back road trips. I’m thinking of doing a flush/filter since it’s probably never had one done. But I have a feeling I’m going to be doing a converter here soon. 🤨 tempted to go ahead and fork over the money to do a proper DOD delete with a small cam and a 6l90 converter since I like the stock stall for any future towing needs/keeping torque down low in the power band for my larger all terrain tires. Also thinking of putting an aux cooler and a deeper pan on it to help save the trans.

How is that 6l90 torque converter holding up. I have a 2013 Silverado with 160,000 mi. When I shifted into gear and hold the brake I can feel the torque converter. I meant off the break and for 2 seconds it's still there but after that it's gone. I thought it was the brakes but I turned and put new brake pads. It's a very light Rumble in the brake pedal but I'm pretty sure it's the torque converter. The reason why is because I had a LS that the transmission was jacked up wrong and it needed a new torque converter. And it feels like the same Rumble you never forget. What's your thoughts
No issues with my 6l90 transmissions so far. I have about 22K miles on it. I do plant to change it out when I hit 200K miles (90K on the converter) to a billet just to be safe.
My 2016 6l80 went bad at 110.000 the welds cause the converter to warp so i put a billet converter in it plus a rebuild its works like a champ now i have a fuel leak at top of the gas tank it needs a fuel pump and line
Why wouldn't you change the 2 seals? Also, if one of the pump nubs is at 10 o'clock then the other is at 4 o'clock seeing as they are 180 degrees from each other
I have a bullet converter I’m installing into my 6L80. The bell housing is rubbing on initial install. Once it’s mounted to the engine will it then slide far enough away that the bell housing won’t rub?
Instead of hoping that the 90 torque C holds up, might as well put a good after market converter like a circle D and be done and have piece of mind! Thx for the videos!
Great point! I actually spoke to them tho and they did not have any with a low stall like factory. they said going with 6L90 was best for my application
I’ve got a two-part question is there anything you can do to prolong your torque converter/transmissions lifecycle? Also, is there any upgraded tour converters that you can install instead of the AC Delco one? I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado Z 71 4 x 4
You should stay with the stock stall then most likely. Talk to the shop you are buying the torque converter from and they will be able to provide more insight. Circle d makes good torque converters from what I have heard.
My 2011 Silverado had the torque converter go out and trash the trans at 105k. My 2017 Tahoe had the same issue at 75k. I drove the Silverado way harder than the Tahoe so... I'd say yes.

My first transmission failed in my 16’ Denali at 32,000 miles and now at 58,000 finally did a service on the tranny and the torque converter is crap in the new replacement:
What is the stock stall of the 6l80 vs 6l90 - you mention this is practically a bolt-on replacement - no tuned needed- is this 100% accurate and is the only difference between the 2 tc is the beefer internals?
Aftermarket for sure. Just need to find one that has a good stall rating for your application. I haven't looked into aftermarket options too much yet tho but I will when I start getting near 200K miles in a few years
Is it abnormal for a break In Period to occur after a transmission rebuild and an upgraded torque converter? I am having shudder and rough shifts that has gotten better, but still occurs 200 miles after the new tc.
@TheSundaeDrive thank you for getting back to me I did some research and from of what I have seen it looks like they will bolt on but their was no mention in changing torque converters etc.
when you got done do you have a converter lock-up issue? i did the swap and now at 40 mph rpms jump from 1000 1200 and back to 1000 every sec. put my truck converter back in and it was ok. so i had the dealer parts warranty it and the 2nd on does the same.
Does the transmission retain the Lock Up after swapping the Torque converter? The clutch-like feeling that engages after 40mph to be able to drive at low RPMs without the Converter Slipping
I have a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado V6 4.3 and I been told to replace the torque converter but I was told to get a heavy duty torque converter what do you recommend?
Im wandering after install how long it took before the front seal to start leaking. And that o-ring in the unput shaft for lock up. They are usually junk.
Question for the group for those of you that went the rebuild route with the upgraded TC. What was the cost because im getting quoted a little over 8k for a remanufactured.
That seems a little steep but probably how much it goes for. The Torque converter itself runs around $1000-$1500 or so from circle D if you go with the billet option.
@@TheSundaeDrive Yes but rebuilt it anyway because it was out. All Raybestos stage 1 clutches, updated pistons, Sonax zip kit and a Circle D twin disk truck converter. It is working flawlessly. lol this comment was exactly 10 months ago. Hopefully you are having no issues
Your DOD delete video series and other videos related to that truck have helped greatly. Thank you for taking time to make helpful content
Very welcome!
Really nice to see you guys getting the truck back together after all this time.
Getting there! Definitely took a lot longer than planned
My 6L90 TQ from a 2017 Silverado HD 6.0, lasted 75,000 miles. I hope your upgrade last longer than mine did.
Good to know that it failed that early. I am planning to swap to a billet converter around 200K miles which would be around 92K miles total. Sitting at 136K roughly right now but maybe I will change it earlier.
My TC in 2017 2500 with 80k grenaded the tranny dropped 5800 for new trans
Thank u for the video. About to do my first converter change. Went out at about 160k miles. Gonna use the amsoil as well.
Glad it helped! Good luck with the swap
Did you just swap in a new converter or did you do a full trans rebuild too?
Great video! Thanks for this solution. My 6L80 blew at 138,000. Thanks GM 👊
That stinks 😔

After seeing this video me too. I’m pulling my 5.3 in a few months and I will definitely be replacing that torque converter while the motor is out.
Definitely a good idea. If you want even stronger, go with a billet converter.

Awesome video I wish I’ve seen this a few months back bc my trans took a shit
Glad to help! Hopefully it will help prevent another failure for you!
My torque coverter failed right after you did this video and destroyed my transmission ☹️. Cost me $5k for a reman. My truck is at 163k miles though.
Aww man, that stinks. You made it pretty far on the stock one atleast. Seems like it should almost be standard 100K mile maintenance item
@TheSundaeDrive what do you think?
Should replace the green turbine shaft seal also.
Wouldn't hurt!
great video, do you know what the difference in the stall speeds are between the 2?
Ask for high carbon clutches because even though that converter is a dual clutch it’s carbon fiber which frays (clogs the lines) use raybestos
This clutch configuration is like the 2015 f-250-150
my truck is at 180k still no failures knock on wood, 2014 5.3 420hp with tune and running e 85- just did a transmission fluid change and didn't see any metal on the magnet really. looked pretty clean compared to what iv seen. but looking into maybe changing the converter while everything is still working as it should
Not sure how the ZL1/CTS-V 6L90 converter holds up (haven't seen any get replaced at work yet) but the 6L90 HD truck converters seem to the same crap as the 6L80 truck ones. We've put converters or worse in plenty 2014-2018 model year trucks. Sad. 07-13 trucks I don't think we've done all of one or two of them at most.

IDK how much the factory gm converter is, but you can find aftermarket billet cover stock stall single disc lock-up converters now for around $500. I went with a unit sold by trans star. Iirc these units are made by a company out of ohio and sold through trans star.
Good to know! I think this ran me around 400 or so but it's been awhile.
How’s it holding up?

@Fishermanjuice22 do you mean the rps fluctuating a few hundred rpms up and down whe the torque converter is locking up?
The thing like rumble strips is the torque converter clutch starting to fail. It is random slippage of the clutch that shakes the torque converter. It is commonly referred to as torque converter shudder.
Just got my truck back yesterday mine failed at 71000 miles luckily I was still a few days away from my warranty expiring.
You are lucky! I would pre-emptively change it before it happens again. Normally they last 80-120K from what I've seen. If you tow a low you'll probably be on the lower end of that range.
The TC just went on my '15 chevy express 3500 van with 6L90 at 121K. Wish I knew about this problem so I could replace it before failure
That stinks 😔 definitely recommend going with a billet transmission for the rebuild.
So you replace the TC or did it ruin the trans?
The 6l80e torque converter is constantly slipping that's why they fail. Get the 80 tuned to only lock in 5th and 6th. Raise the pressure and they are good
As I sit at the dealer watching this video. 130k. Just started feeling some irregularities. Dealer is doing some diagnostics for me. The tech mentioned tc failures. Will know more shortly. Ive watched a few videos and they all seam to be well done. Feel like I’ll be watching more soon. 🤦🏻♂️

That gravel was moist as hell but doesn't hold water like sand, still the 3000 pounds per yard is a conservative figure, and there was a full 6 yards in that 1ton dump (rated to haul 4 tons itself)
That's pushing as hard as a guy can to break his truck or have problems of some sort, yet our trucks stepped up, took that ass whippin and just carried on.

That's crazy, I accidentally told about 13K lbs with my 14 5.3 and it was good just couldn't go above 45-50mph
@@TheSundaeDrive it's crazy what we do at times, but the fact we know better in the first place is the funny part in the end. If we damage our trucks being that stupid then we man up, complain as we're lowering the tranny down and out but after a week or 2 we laugh.
The times we get LUCKY we also know enough that it's nothing to brag about lol
I love the 78' GM trucks as an example, but a 78 half ton had no chance of pulling that 20,000lb trailer man let's face it a dam 3/4 ton of the era would be extremely sketchy. Fckn 1500 now is equal if not stronger than the old 3/4's an there on up
I guess it's the beauty of such a competitive market 👍🇺🇸

Old comment, but my dad's 2012 just got a new 6L90 after his transmission died at 187k.
It probably was
My 2015 is doing it, just turned 50k.
My thoughts exactly. Preventative maintenance is key with these trucks.

In my '15 Silverado 1500 the torque converter started to fail at 135k miles.
Sounds about right. Were you able to catch it in time to save the transmission?
@@TheSundaeDrive Yes but rebuilt it anyway because it was out. All Raybestos stage 1 clutches, updated pistons, Sonax zip kit and a Circle D twin disk truck converter. It is working flawlessly. I have had it back in for about 2 weeks so it is still learning. It has had a little tcm tuning done to eliminate the lockup in gears 1-3 and eliminated the programmed in tcc slip. When it came apart there was some noticeable but not bad wear on the 2,6 clutches and in the 1,2,3,4 and 2,5,R clutches each had one clutch plate that had a small spot of material that flaked off. The L,R clutches looked basically new still.

If you have 6l80 transmission yes.
dose 6L90 fit 4.3 3rd gen Silverado 6L80 is dog water my tranny was at 240 fml
Will this work in a 16 Silverado 5.3 4x4???
The main issue is that the GM torque converters have welded tabs and are stamped from low quality steel. Save your transmission, install a billet converter.
