The TCL 6 Series is a very good 4k TV for a wide range of different usages. In this review, we compare it to 4 other popular models.
Full review: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl...
The 6 Series is a budget TV which performs well in both dark and bright rooms. It has a high native contrast ratio and decent local dimming, enabling it to produce deep and detailed dark scenes. It also has great peak brightness for producing bright HDR highlights or overcoming glare in a bright room. It is impressive for gaming due to the low input lag and good motion handling, with the addition of a black frame insertion feature to clear up fast motion.
Model tested: 55” (55R617)
Should also be valid for the other 55” (55R615) and 65" (65R615, 65R617) models. Note that the R615 variants including a different remote.
Compare the TCL R617 and Sony X900F

Note: Some annotations in the video are swapped for the color volume and gamut. The TCL 5 and TCL 6 numbers are actually from the Samsung NU8000 and MU6300 respectively instead. The good values should be instead: TCL 6 Series (83.9%, 88.57%) and TCL 5 Series (72.5%, 90.13%). You can find the full table of measurements here: www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/wide-color-gamut-rec-709-dci-p3-rec-2020 . Also, the annotations numbers of the TCL 5 Series shown in this video are instead of the Samsung MU6300. Our next video of the TCL 5 Series will have the correct numbers, and you can also see all of them in our review here: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/5-series-2018-s517 .

Rtings.com I'm interesting in buying a Sharp Smart TV LC-43Q7000U. I've searched for reviews. But, I haven't found any. Please, make a review of this TV
have you noticed your contrast AND LOCAL DIMMING - which 5 series lacks? - where in vid 5 series is much more uniform, much higher contrast and the least cloudy and least light bloom around the square by far. Are we sure your 5 and 6 aren't reversed in video for those? One buys local dimming to eliminate what the 6 is showing horribly.
Joel Moreno, I certainly hope you didn't buy a TCL. Garbage products, complete garbage.
I've had this tv for 3 years now and the picture quality is really good. The only issue we sometimes experience is that the tv will occasionally turn off by itself. This usually happens 4-5 times a week. We never took the tv in to get it looked at, because we didn't want to not have a tv for a period of time. 4K movies look great, which is why we bought it.
Been waiting for this guys, glad the video is up. Good stuff.
The one video I've been waiting for this TV.
Thanks! Best and most comprehensive review I have seen on these models.
Finally i been dying to see your riview for this tv, THANK YOU!
Im so glad I found rtings.com, I have only seen such in depth reviews for pc monitors.
This was super informative. Thank you!
Great videos guys , probably the only one i really listen too
These reviews are impressive. Good work!
Got my 55" 5 days ago and love it so far.Color is great
Been waiting for this video. Can’t wait for the Vizio P series review too
I hope your guys channel and website pick up a lot more with all these reviews. Theyre really good and informative. Unbiased to what i can tell as well which is great
Damn, you guys are on point with your reviews.
I gotta look into this tcl brand all i see is amazing reviews about these TVs the last few years
I love these comparison shots where you can see all tv calibrated in comparison :D
Problem is.....99.9999% of humans don't calibrate (especially professionally) a 600 dollar or even a 1500 dollar TV. Let alone a 5000 dollar one. Maybe .00001% of TVs are professionally calibrated today. So, out of the box and Rtings provides a guide to self calibration on most TVd they review. All TVs differ so.....it's a limited guide.
Good video, great job guys, I showed how you can invert the legs in my review but people still think it doesn't really work, maybe now they can be sure it works.
Slava Aliev yes hes the one with the best buy videos
I back you up 😉
90sG@mer Hi, turn off, I think its called action smoothing, to get rid of SOE.
Hello Joelster G4K. Since you have used the legs inverted, what is the minimum width size table this TV can *_SAFELY_* be placed on with inverted legs? Thank you.
Gergel70 The TV stand measures 28.5" with legs inverted, so anything larger than 30" width should be fine.
You can see my review here.

Best online reviews you guys are true pro
You cannot forget about the Dolby vision support on the 6 series
Thank you for the review i was going to buy the Sony X900E but decided to go with the TCL 65R615 Best Buy model of the 65R617. Save a few hounded bucks and get a few more inches as well.
Great review... Don't stop
UNREAL REVIEW.
phenomenal review
Great review!
Getting this TV soon, really hoping that I get a good panel. I'm pretty stoked about it.
thank you guys.
Good review! I was all set to buy the P series on the strength of my BIL’s research and experience. Then just as I was going to pull the trigger I figured I’d make s google and sure enough, the 6 series was about to drop. So I waited a month or so and ordered our 55R617 on 4.26. I guess I got lucky as it arrived via prime on 4.30 with no QC or picture issues. A few adjustment to factory settings based on Joelster, TechnoDad and CNET did resolve some haloing and dirty screen effect that had me worried. Google “CNET TCL 6 series settings for a quick take. I’m a happy camper this far.
Did you get the dirty gray screen?
Only thing I notice is on black background with viewing credits there is white bloom around lettering to the zones like mentioned. Otherwise the t.v. is quite amazing for gaming
Still have this TV in the 75 size and it's a monster. It even is better now with all of the firmware updates it's received in the past 4 years or so. One thing I can say it's very bright with the right picture settings.
I got a nice uniform panel which is great since I bought online. I also inverted the legs and it still sits quite stable though I always have a strap to the wall here in earthquake country. No negatives from me, I think it was a good choice for the money and imo looks as good as some tv's that cost 1 - 1.2k dollars.
You guys gunna do a review of the Hisense short throw projector tv?
Thank you for showing us the hockey game in this one, I wish more of the videos had that. I'm trying to find the right- hockey tv. And this one- doesn't appear to be it.
Is the drag in the hockey game a result of the dirty screen effect?
I know you have the top 10 TVs article for sport, but what are suggestions for a $500 budget or so?
I'm looking at the Vizio M558-G1, and maybe something from Samsung like the Q7R...
Any good recommendations out there for hockey or general sports?
Great video and a great deal on
I have the rainbow effect on my TCL P605. What would be this cause of this? Ive noticed it since day 1. Reminded me exactly of the DLP rainbow effect.
i have had my 6 Series tv for a few weeks, and initially there was some uniformity issues, but after a few days of using the tv only thing i see is in the corners a little darkness, rest of the screen has really leveled out very nicely for me
i have no complaints or problems so far with my tv, i use netflix, plex and ps4 pro and have my PC hooked to it as well
i use yamaha sound bar so i can't speak to the speaker quality on the tv
Looking forward to receiving my 65" 65r617
How well does this tv do as a computer monitor? I've heard of subpixel issues
I picked one up a couple weeks ago and managed to get a good one. It's definitely worth the money if you don't have the issues.
reviews on amazon state a vertical bars issue when viewing white colors. good to know when buying a used one of these on offerup!
Can we update the P Series 2017 firmware so we have new features like 6 Series 2018 such as motion interpolation and black frame insertion as well?
I'd love to see a review on the TCL x4 65" QLED (and/or 55"), do you guys plan on doing one?
As someone who sells TV's, there is very little to no information about this panel out there aside from the standard manufacturer specs and typical training videos. I've messed around with the panel in store and it holds up pretty well, but I can't do comprehensive testing like you guys can.
From what I saw of CES though, it looks as though TCL are pulling out the big boy gloves and jumping into the fray with Samsung and LG. So it'll be interesting to see how well they hold up against other QLED's for the much cheaper price tag.
anyone know if this comes with the m6 16mm screws needed for the vesa mounting im having trouble finding them online
Curious... So the P series only allowed audio played on phones/tablets only if you use the tvs apps. Using an external input, it'd disable it entirely. Wonder if the 6 series fixes that.
Seems like a brighter, slightly bulkier tv than my 55p605. But! Roughly 7ms more input lag. Which, 17-20ms is still awesome. But 12ms on the p605 and a pc mouse, was almost an eye opening experience coming from 34ms.
I gonna buy it today 😊
What kind of TV stand is that? Looks cheap, wide, and sturdy. Exactly what I need.
Is this TV available in Europe? Because I can't find it on my Amazon
I'm probably going to wait for HDMI 2.1, VRR amd eARC. But if I were buying a TV today, I would probably buy this one.
I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. 55in r615, the picture is outstanding and I have no screen issues. I originally went with a Samsung 7 series but it kept dropping internet connection. Found out that's a big problem with Samsung TVs. Exchanged it for the r615, exact same price. As soon as I hooked the tcl up I noticed the picture was immediately way sharper and brighter than the Samsung. I have a 2k PC monitor and tend to think an eye for detail. Then found out about Dolby vision and dang, what ever you are watching looks like it's living inside your screen. The details, color and contrast are insane. Even regular HD TV shows are better on the tcl. Samsung doesn't even offer Dolby vision on their TVs. I am 100% sold on tcl and look forward to see what their new 6 and 8 series offer. All the reviews are right, best 4k TV under 1,000$ period!
Does anyone know what’s the difference of the 55R613 from Costco?
Is this the same T.V as the TCL DP648 range which is released here next week? We have different model numbers here in the uk and it's so confusing as to whether these TV's have the same specs.
Do you know what the stand footprint of the 65 inch model is if the legs are inverted? Thanks.
I've bought this exact one it's great for hdr like he said. Quality control is the only issue. Had to bring mine back, would shut off every few minutes
Hi would the TCL 6 series be the same as European TCL P6? but without the Dolby Vision and Roku, there aren't enough reviews on RUclips or on Google for this TV in the Uk, at the moment i have a LG tv but the blacks don't really look good you can see the vertical LED lights it's quite annoying I've tried everything to fix it, any help would be appreciated thank you very much.
Black levels on my 2018 Roku Series 6 are not good for actors of color and for viewing darker films like recent batman films. What settings will fix this please?.
Is TCL updating the 6 series line later this year? I heard some murmur during CES but I’m not sure whether to buy one now or wait a couple of months to see if an update is coming?
Really like the TCL but wanting to see the New Vizio P comparison before I purchase one
Do a comparison between the TCL and the Hisense H9E Plus that just dropped at best buy
Great video. Wish there would have been more comparisons between the p607/605 since its closer than the 5 series. But from what I have seen, I am glad I have the P605. The grey uniformity is even worse on the 6 series. While I notice the Dirty Screen Effect about 20% of my total viewing experience, it's only on scenes that are one solid color or big sky scenes that move otherwise you don't notice it at all with most viewing. The input lag is also better on the the P series which is a plus for me. As for HDR/DV content, it's plenty bright. I run full brightness on SDR content so I am used to the whole screen being bright and I think most people are. What a lot of people don't understand is that the brightness is controlled by the meta data of the movie. Even full brightness may seem dark, but it's what the director intended and I am getting used to it more and more with each HDR/DV show/movie I watch.
Not buying a new TV until HDMI 2.1 is released and variable refresh rate is fully implemented on 120Hz panels. But in the mean time I got a very cheap TCL (S405) and it's working amazingly well for the price. So if they can offer something good in the 49" size in a couple of years from now then I'll give it a try, otherwise I'm getting a Sony.

Can you guys make a first halve 2018 best models video?
Just got the 55" a week ago. Mostly happy with it. I do now have an audio sync problem when playing Blu-ray discs. The player is connected to a Pioneer receiver, which then connects to the TCL (all HDMI). Now dialogue is off between the movement on screen and the audio through the speakers. I can tweak this through the receiver to try and correct it but I haven't gotten it perfect yet and it's driving me crazy. This wasn't a problem with my previous TV (LCD, no 4K). Anybody got an idea why this is now a problem? Sure would appreciate some input! Thanks!
Can't understand... Is the tcl DP600 a 6 series tcl? Like the one in this review?
Where I am the only have the TCL 55C2US Pro. Is this the same model in the vid? better worse ?
My TV has flickering on lighter colors when dynamic contrast is on. Anyone else have this issue?
How does this compare to the 2018 M Series from Vizio? Seems like the Vizio would perform better?
When are you going to do the Hisense H9E Plus???
I bought the 6 series to replace my 900e and save over the 900f. No regrets as I use it specifically for gaming
I ended up picking up the 65 inch TCL6 series at Best Buy on Black Friday weekend. I have very small uniformity issues. Looks like a faint checkerboard (might not be using a big enough diffuser between the backlight) more apparent on a bright white surface, but in movies, games, daily use, I never notice it, I could not be happier with my purchase! Amazing black levels, and astonishing highlights! Very good Peak brightness!
How much $$$ was it on black friday
@@alexfernandez8083 $899 ($70 off)
@@JamesHryb thanks👍
Do a review on the license h8f. It's basically the same but I heard it crushed black and it's not that bright either
If iam afan of watching movies tcl r6 better or Samsung nu7100 or u have another option iam waiting ur answer and thanks for ur nice review
I love this TV, my only regret is that I didn't buy the 65" version. It was $400 more but I could have afford it.
Will there be a 50" version of the 6 series in the future? any ideas?
Also, I am looking at Samsung NU8000 49"...the price is higher, it seems to be very nice, but then again I just watch Netflix and some free channels and need a 49-50" size...so idk what to do
I just bought the TCL 55r615 and this tv is beyond awesome in picture quality. I have the 65x900f, 75z9f and the tcl guys. The TCL has the sharpest and clearest picture of the 3. It’s 60 hertz but is just as smooth as a 120 hertz compared two my two SONY TVs. At 449.99 it can’t be beat.
right about the viewing angle anything beyond say 10-12 degrees and the color fades ..but from front it is great
Just received the TCL 55" R617 yesterday and was messing with the settings. Have you guys experienced a glow whenever there's white text on the screen? Are there any settings on this TV to help remedy this issue. Otherwise, I am pretty happy with this TV.
What about an update for the 75 in variant
Does this tv sells in Europe? If so what is the model name , cant find anything with R letter.
I don't really understand TCL's naming and models, here in the UK the TCL 43P617K is meant to be a new release for July 2021. So is this a different TV to the R617 that was released in the States in 2018 or is it just an old TV that has recently been released in the UK making it 'new for 2021'??
I can't put a link in or it gets deleted but if you go the the UK Amazon site and search for 'TCL 43P617K' then this is what I am talking about.
What's the cost of the 65 and 55 inch models?
Hi Danial, I would like to buy the TCL series 6 R617 in Canada. Is this possible ? Also is this TV in Canada the same model number ? What stores can I buy it from. Thank you.
would you be able to review TCL C6us pleaseeee
Hi i am looking for this model in france but i dont find maybe it is in other reference ? Could you help me please 😉
Does this tv rgb and if it does what is the range on ps4 should i use full or limited
Do you think the TCL6 or the Samsung Q6FN is better and why?
I considered this model until I saw complaints about dirty screen effect, or vertical bands on picture where its all one color, . ie: blue sky, hockey rink, etc.
Good review. It's a fair review but it can't be understated that there's a strong chance of getting a bad panel. If you get a good panel, then this review applies. I bought the R615 65 inch and occasionally notice significant corner shadows, so am thinking about returning it and getting a Samsung NU8000 for about $200 more. I wanted a Samsung QLED but it's a little outside my price range. I feel that Samsung and other big names have better quality control as well as panel uniformity (as mentioned in this video). Thoughts?
So... what’s the difference between the R615 and R617 models?
Will the Roku functionality work if I import this to the Philippines? TCL is selling a stripped down version of this here using Linux OS.
You need to test the 65" version. Uniformity is worse than on the 55" model. Corner vignetting also wasn't mentioned here and can be quite significant.
Common Quantum, make my day. 🤪
So I finally got around to building a gaming PC for the living room and I have discovered that you cannot run 1440p at 60hz on this display. I assume it's because it takes too much processing power since 1080p and 4k work just fine at 60hz. In the Rtings review on their website they show 1440p 60hz response times. Is there something I'm missing here? I tried creating a custom resolution and the display hits a wall at 2560x1440 @36hz. Anyone else having this issue?
how the hell does this site only have 100k subs???????????????????
Tcl r617 or Sony x900e? I have the 900e but I wanna get another tv at my dad's house, will I notice the difference? Need an honest recommendation no bs
this was a awesome TV for the year it was released. it's even better with the firmware updates it's received recently.
Glad you're happy with it!
@@RTINGSdotcom yes it's true if someone buys a tv and they are happy with the TV then that should be what matters most of all We all would love to have the perfect tv but if a TV gives me 90 percent of what I'm expecting then I'm satisfied.
I have the newest TCL 55R617. I also have a 4 year old TCL 48FS4610R 48-Inch 1080p . The 4 year old tv seems to do way better with motion blur than the new TCL 55R617 when watching the World Cup on the Fox Sports app. I've already returned one 55R617 unit and the second unit does the same thing. Any suggestions or tips on how to fix the issue before I decide to return the 2nd unit?
Just bought the 65” 65R615
I think you guys should put the real-time sound quality tests on future videos, just like your headphones and earphones reviews vids.

the brand Philips on TV ?
Does the 55" look grainy to you?
How is the 55R617-CA compared to the nu8000.
