PREVIOUS DESCRITION:
In this video, we will go over the results so far from our two ongoing burn-in tests.
Our current stance is that if you vary your content and don’t display static areas then you’re unlikely to experience any issues. If you do plan to watch a lot of static content with bright, saturated colors, then an OLED TV probably isn’t for you. There has been no appreciable change to the brightness or color gamut of these OLED TVs which is great.

3:46 I think that figure burned into the screen is actually the soul of the TV trying to escape after being subjected to nonstop cable news for so long.
Like that horror movie The Ring ?
lmao
These panels do use organic materials, so wouldn't surprise me haha.
ahhaahah oh my God, you should go be a comedian if you're not already yet.

I cannot express enough how thankful I am for channels like Rtings that honestly review consumer products to better inform the buyer. THANK YOU.
Yeah dude, too many youtubers in niches these days get paid to promote things. I was looking for bedding recently and my GOD that industry is corrupt. All the youtube channels and websites that review bedding are paid by, and sometimes are OWNED by, big bedding companies
oled is great,i never go back to normal lcd,but i dont watch cable . the lcds with local dimming are also great, but people coplain about blooming for no reason
It's because of people like you guys that big companies are forced to improve their shitty quality. Thank you so much for what you do!
Maybe some shitty quality, but also the newest state of the art tech that will most definitely have drawbacks in it's infancy. Most every benefit has a drawback associated. It's just a matter of mitigating those drawbacks.
4:50 "and have been running them for 20 hours continuously each day, which doesn't correspond to anybody's normal usage" oh I, umm, absolutely agree.
Gotta love normal people and their mundane usage patterns, ey? :))

Great job, guys! So generally trying to avoid any live news will help both your OLED TV as well as you mental health 😎A win-win situation

Really appreciate this top-notch work. You approach these tests with good rigor, and I appreciate when you plainly state the limitations of the conclusions you can draw with your tests (as with the 100 TV longevity test).

This is what has always worried me about OLED panels. It's obvious they are better sets in terms of picture but the TV's in general seem to have a shorter lifespan. If I find a great TV I tend to stick with it until a jump in technology or an upgrade is needed, so OLED has always worried me because of burn in since I keep my TV's for a while.
I would love to see this done again with newer panels that have burn in prevention software built in to see whether or not it works.
These videos are great and super informational.
Exactly this....Do you know of reputable RUclips channels that have done it?

@@Remy.- Great idea. I await your test results!
Wow! These tests must have been expensive $$$. You guys are really serious about reviewing televisions. You really helped me make up my mind. I'm not getting an OLED.
Impressive work and attention to detail. Your channel is fast becoming the go to source for product and technology reviews. Well done.
Would love to see this with current technology. Great channel guys!!
Please keep these units running into the future for continued analysis! After YEARS of use I'd love to see you directly compare them to the same unused models, and not in regards to specific burn in spots, but rather their overall loss of brightness and function. If burn-in is really just a result of pixels losing their mojo by being on too long and bright in certain areas at one time, then doesn't that mean ALL diodes lose their juice over time?? If so, you'd conclude that all OLED tvs degrade over time uniformly (minus the user 'errors' of specific burn in), and basically your tv is downgrading itself from its original state from which you bought it?
I like how this guy wasn’t concerned with shaving or combing his hair. It shows an unwavering dedication to OLED burn testing, and absolutely nothing else.
Wow there aren't a lot of channels that are so dedicated in testing . Great video! Thanks a lot ! ^^
I reached out to LG- and they replaced my OLED C8 panel free of charge... one time... my OLED was out of warranty so I salute LG for this replacement. Thanks

I have an LG OLED C7 and I always go to settings and then Screen Off when I am away just to avoid burns when I am playing games. Also I play games with the HUD off. My t.v. still amazes me and I take care of it like a child. Thank you LG for making me take care of my t.v. I wish the Screen Off be conveniently placed as a button on the remote. 👍

I would love to see this test re-run with the panels from the last couple of years including EVO, QD and standard OLEDs.
This is something we've been discussing internally for quite some time. While we'd absolutely love to do this, it takes up a huge amount of time and resources. So, if we do run this sort of testing again, we want to make sure were doing it the right way and providing value to users. All this to say, even though we don't have any current plans to do this, we'll continue to keep it in mind for future consideration!
Great content. And, Daniel, your speaking has greatly improved since then :)
Thank you 1,000 times. This was comprehensive and scientific. My $300 LG 65" that I bought 10 months ago has turns of permanent burn in and in general brightness and resolution are failing. I think I got a bad luck situation as you mentioned since up until about a month ago, I had none of these problems and never leave a static image on my screen for more than 20 minutes at time (when used as a pc monitor and even this is rare).
My 2012 plasma has no burn-in. It all depends on how you use it.
@@toriless of course, if that plasma was always off then there's no burn in

Apparently, you don't have a wife who dozes off while browsing through a TV listing schedule.
Good information. I bought an LG 65 inch C8 almost a year ago, and it's still going strong. Totally satisfied. I don't bother with CNN though.
You guys doing awesome job, very thorough!
Still one of the best if not THE best coverage of OLED burn in.
Linus sent me here to watch his OLED assertions for PC use be totally shown up.
Hi, I have an LG55C7V, I’ve never had burn in due to content watched, but I have had an issue where bright sunlight on the screen has caused a burnt in image of plants from outside.
The black spots on LED could be a result of micro dust that collects between panel layers due to constant air convection there. Usually it appear as darkened lower left/right corners though. In many cases it can be cleaned if that is the case. Or alternatively it could be light-reflecting layer deforming under constant heat. Still a reminder that LCD are not perfect either
Very interesting to see the test results of burn-in so far.
Great video! I'm actually looking into getting a 77" LG C1 to replace a 2016 LG. Ironically, it's actually the same LG @ 5:40, the UJ6300 with the same LED failure with them turning blue.
I find the burn in related to subtitles most problematic.
Have you experienced burn in due to subtitles?
I always watch subtitled movies! Do you guys have problems of burn in because this??
For Netflix and Prime you can set more options for Subtitle style via the webpage user profile settings rather than just the in-TV app (wait a bit & restart the tv app to pick up the changes). I was originally trying to solve that the white subtitles were waaaay to bright and distracting in dark scenes but I think I’ve totally solved the burn in issue too. I added the black box surround to the text which normally annoyingly blocks too much of the scene but here is the trick; Set the *opacity* for both the text and the surround to low. Now the subtitles will be much more subtle yet very readable because of the contrast between surround and text. They don’t interfere much with the scene because they’re semi transparent. Burn in should be almost eliminated because the saturation is low due to the subs now being ‘blended’ with the scene by the transparency.
Aexoero V see my reply above, problem solved!
@@FearTheTaswegian thanks, good info! Problem is that i watch subtitled movies from other sources too and my media player doesn't let me adjust the subs too much except the position and size! What about movies with letterbox? Is letterbox a problem for OLED TV's?
I own monitor with LG IPS panel from ~2011 and it also has darkened areas. It was barely visible when I bought it, but after ~6 years it became much more pronounced.
Wow this is awesome test. You guys are very dedicated. Subscribed.
Really looking to upgrade my old school flat screen with the LG CX. What are your thoughts on the burn-in potential? Seems to be a hot topic regarding the LG OLEDs.
Did you carry on this test after 2 years? It would be great to see those results!
B7 3+ years of gaming and no burn-in on color slides. Very happy with this tv
I just bought the C1. I didn't really think much of burn in until I started seeing damaged OLEDs. Can you let me know what games you play and if they have static HUDS that are always on the screen? I'm going to use mine for gaming almost exlusively. May watch some sports too. I'm a little worried now after spending 2k on this thing and mounting it lol
If you plan to play alot I wouldnt use an Oled. Im using a c7 and burn in started after 2,5years and degraded rather quickly. From slight burn in to highly visible (health bars, group member bars, chat box etc). I have been playing pretty much the same game for about 10000h over a 4year period and the TV is now going in the bin.
If you play different games on a casual scale you will probably be fine, but why risk it?
2500£ for a TV that lasted 4years. Not my best purchase.

Have you tested with any of the TV's burn reduction features enabled?
Great video as alway’s, I suffered really bad screen burn on my LG Oled after 11 months. Faulty technology, what is reasonable usage???
Interesting information I hope you guys do a similar test on the 2019 TVs as well to see if the issue has been fixed.

No matter what the situation is, regular use of any tv should not make it useless within a year.
Yeah, my current TV is 26 years old and cost around £2000 when it was new, thats the sort of life I want from a TV that costs as much as car, anything less than 5 years is insane. I'll probably just have to wait for Micro LED for that longer life span though.
@@VeyronBD that's why I won't pick the B8 oled for €960, but will go for xf900 for €1000. Q8dn costs the same but I prefer Sonys upscaling, motion options and more natural colors.
Yes and normal usage of OLED does not make it useless within a year. If you think watching CNN for 20 hrs/day is normal usage then IDK what to tell you.
I'd just rather not be paranoid of burning the screen on my super expensive tv all the time tbh.
@@VeyronBD I understand but coming from a plasma TV for 8 years the transition was pretty streamline. I spent this summer reselling clearance TVs many of which were the displays and I would try them out for a week to make sure they worked. It was hilarious to see my 8 year old 1080p plasma destroying LCDs left and right. Eventually I got a 65" C8 OLED for $700 and decided to keep it instead of reselling.
Are the TVs actually still up and running? I wonder how they look after 2 years.
the tv are burned after 3500h
Rtings had The tvs on for 20 hours a day for a whole year. That is 7300 hours already. With average use of average 3 hours a day that would give you 6+ years.

I hope MicroLED developement will finish soon... hate to fear Burn-In
stick with crt tv meanwhile
You'll be waiting a while.
Don't LEDs suffer over time as well, as shown by the extreme example with the three screens side by side (two LEDs one OLED)? The OLED screen looked much better than the one with the clouding backlight.
I hope your wallet is extremely heavy, because so will be the bill when you shop for it within the first 2 years of commercial release.
I think what this video shows is you have to be watching the same content for 5hrs straight for a year and really has to be something like a static logo to burn in. With normal varied use patterns it really shouldn't be a problem.
Imagine seeing the test for these tvs and seeing burn in on your screen lol
Great research we all needed to know.

This was really helpful. we watch with subtitles all the time and I did not consider that this could cause burn in
If you use them on youtube subtitle burn-in can be an issue, some playback devices shift then around.

Congratulations, great job! I would just like to see the addition of OLEDs used as computer monitors, as televisions are increasingly used for this function every day. Thanks a lot.
Lower the brightness users at over 60% have reported burn-in. Do not go over 40% I find the difference between 24% and 36% to be nothing with a slight tweak of the other settings.
