Probably the best explanation of calibrating settings I’ve seen
Facts
I first watched this helpful vid in Oct 2018 and haven't looked back. The C8 is just the most awesome TV I've ever owned.
Thank you so much! You not only helped me pick out the best TV for my needs & budget thanks to your comparison charts (LG B8 OLED 55"), but also helped me set it up! Thanks a TON! I use it with my PC so getting that response rate as fast as possible is a must!
Your video helped me to decide on the LGC8 and now this video helped me set it up. The great thing abt ur videos is how you explain the techinal terms in simple layman's term that makes so much sense. Thank you and keep up the great service you are doing to all consumers worldwide
Excellent detailed explanation of picture settings! Thank you!
This is the first time I've seen the calman charts overlaid on a video to show what each option does. Bravo, excellent.
Thanks Daniel.......I just bought an LG B8 and would have been totally messing with the settings for days!!!
You have the greatest web site for TV analysis of all time!! Thanks for everything you do!!
Im waiting on my b8 to be delivered.. hows that picture? You feel happy with the money spent?
Wow i see your new calibration video jump to next level,i like the way you showed us color change in diagram, well done guys
Love the new more detailed video format! keep it up!
I am so glad I subscribed to this channel your presentation has given me the confidence to explore my settings, 'finally'!
This is a great video!👍👍 LG should hire these people to help all of their customers. Further, I think the cadence, attention to detail, and pleasant personality of the presenter, are all first class. I'm bookmarking this video for future reference. Well done guys, and thank you very much.👍😊

A fantastic explanation. Thank you.
Informative & helpful instructions. Some portions were difficult to follow but repeating helped clarify the menu options discussed.
A summary list showing recommended settings for average home use for CINEMA watching and game playing will be a plus to this video..
Thankyou
This was an amazing and informative settings video, and this guy's voice is so great I would pay hard-earned cash to listen to him read a phone book.
Great video as always. Thank you!
This video was so so well done. Very impressive
Great detailed explanation, thank you so much!
Thanks for explaining everything
You guys are so helpful
Excellent information. Full explanations, and you don't "over tweak" the settings. These TV's have some of the best settings out of the box and your provide just the right adjustments to improve them. Thanks!!
Excellent job- thank you from Australia
Your videos are very good and very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks you guys are the best.
JOB WELL DONE GUYS!
This is what i needed to accurately calibrate the C8 i intend to get a few days. Thanks Guys! 😎
Very helpful! Thank you!
Just ordered B8 :) will have it tomorrow
Fab ... just got a C8 your video was very helpful thank you
Excellent. Clear. Helpful.
Ok, let me just say this upfront. You guys ROCK! I just purchased a LG C9 tv and was having some issues. I also use this tv for a computer monitor. Not just gaming but for web browsing, youtube, editing and 3d modeling. While watching netflix and blu rays the tv is fine. Works like any other tv I have owned, other than it looks better. I normally get 500 dollar budget tvs. The C9 was a big step up for me, other than the old plasma I had years ago. With web browsing and certain programs this tv has issues with auto dimming. ABL and ASBL I guess its called? I called LG support and after doing a bunch of stuff they suggested that didn't work they told me the tv was defective and needed serviced. I said I don't think its broke. I think it is supposed to do this, I just don't like it and want to shut that feature off. I asked to talk to a technician and they told me no. WTF! I started doing some poking around on forums and discovered this is an issue with this tv, and other oleds and it isn't broke. I got some advice and tried it and it made it better. Like turning off TCP in the instart menu.
Then I found some of your videos and your website on suggested settings. Wow, that helped a lot. Learning what modes to use for what, what settings to choose and how adjustments effect things. This isn't my first rodeo with setting up tvs, I am in my 50's, I have owned a few lol. However from the looks of it the oleds work a little different. I wasn't sure what to do with the oled light thing to be honest. I just set it to where it looked good and didn't blind me lol. I assume its similar to the backlight setting on a LCD tv.
I had all my devices connected to my AVR and all running into my tv via the HDMI 1 port. Thanks to you people I discovered this probably isn't the best option because of how this tv handles things and does automatic picture mode switching depending on the signal. So I re did everything and ran all the hdmi cables to the tv instead and used the optical out for the sound. I set the HDMI port for my computer to computer you like you suggest and it automatically popped into game mode dissabling a bunch of stuff. Made the adjustment you suggest and it looks pretty good now. It still does a little auto dimming but nothing like it was doing before. It was throwing a fit on web pages before lol. The bright to dim swings were pretty extreme, even with oled light set to 50. It still does it, but its not as crazy and more controlled.
Thank you so much for all the hard work you all do and putting the information out for us to use. I also like your realistic reviews and how you compare different tvs to each other.
Definately going to print out the page aswell so i can always have it next to the sofa hehe :D
Best video in comparison to others trying to explain the same thing but they fall short compared to this
This is really helpfull, especially also with other TVs than those LG OLED ones, as I'm now capable to understand what all the settings and some of those fancy names mean! Thank you!
I'm going to rewatch this video and try to make an excel spreadsheet to note which settings affect which image properties.
Game mode is interesting as I want to reduce input lag as much as possible (by reducing the internal image processing which adds lag) and the various cinema options are great, because I want to watch my content in the intendet color gamuts, contrast and screen brightness settings.
Also I'm a fan of vivid colors, I want to see how I can combine all my mentioned desires.
Thank you for this informative video
just bought this TV....awesome tutorial
Rtings and HDTV Test are setting the benchmark time and again.
Never use someone elses settings. Its not calibration.
Is the dude from rtings gay?
@@User0815-OG what does that matter?
@@User0815-OG Yeah seems pretty happy to me?
@@User0815-OG ..you are ?
Have found your channel to be most useful and detailed reviews on tech.
Please if you get a chance do size comparisons or review of tv which are 80 plus.
Thanks.
I calibrated my hdr settings for movies under the vivid picture setting for the c8, best by far
You are a legend.
Great vid, I'm just glad I got trumotion out of the way 👍🏻
Great info!
Thanks this gave me an idea to lower oled and brightness to 0 on a HDMI port where I connected a new DVD player which was showing an almost completely white screen whilst playing audio CD's, in order to avoid the OLED from burning in !
Also worth noting that you can enabled 1:1 Pixel Mapping for 1080p content on a 4K screen by turning on Just Scan in the Aspect Ratio settings. This will only work for a device that is outputting the native resolution of 1080p, like a game console or movie player, and will not work for digital apps like RUclips and Netflix.
What about the E8 review? Is it coming soon ?
Thank you for your great reviews it very helpful! 🙏
You are life saver. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the awesome tutorial!! I just picked up the 2019 55" C9. Should I follow this video for my settings on the C9? Thank you again...... very much appreciated. Ray 👍😊
Very good. Thumbs up
REALLY helpful video this, I just got my brand new 65c8 this week and I've been playing around with the settings to get the best picture from it all week.
I'll watch this again a few more times to get a grip on what each setting actually means☺☺
For HDR modes, are adjustments recommended to the default mode settings? E.g. DV cinema home mode has mpeg/noise reduction set to low. Should these reflect your SDR setting and be changed to off?
Thanks for this video, you explained a lot of things I was confused about or mistakes I made.
I have one question, when I use the Netflix app through my B8 the HDR logo doesn't appear for content, but when I use the Netflix app through my UBK90, the Dolby Vision logo appears when viewing content. Shouldn't HDR become available through the Netflix app or do I need to enable it somehow?
Kinda a weird question, but the UBK90 doesn't seem to let me disable HDR DEEP COLOR for Netflix content. Is this normal or it doesn't matter?
Thanks
Very good video, though a might too fast. It would be terrific to have a print transcription of all of this as a download. Thanks for the great info!
great video. Just a question. How is colorimetry in game mode? Many people say that it is ugly and that the pictures also in this mode.
Just got my B8 55" . I adjusted the setting as you suggested. I might slightly tweak it. I see a slight screen flicker using an antenna and cable. Any suggestions? Also B&W tv shows look slightly green compared to my old 13 year old TV. You video is awesome!
thank you.
Amazing video , what are the best picture settings for Philips 55OLED754/12? Please help , is my first oled tv
Thank you.
Apart from the rest of the great advice.
Changing the icon to PC mode corrected a SCALING issue I had with my 55" C8.
I couldn't see anything to correct it. Not even Google searching (I missed something somewhere).
Thank you so so much!!!
My hero 😊
Hi, if you want to fix scaling issue without that helpful PC Icon, you have to go to Picture settings > Aspect Ratio > Just Scan and set it to ON.
@@StanTrnik Thanks Stan!
Nice
Thank!
Hi there, I am used to watching videos including Netflix on my PC at a greater speed (x1.8 or x2.0): is there a way to do so on a B8, please?
My idea would be to install chrome or opera with the video speed controller app for example but will it work?
Thanks.
I’ve already calibrated video settings for my C8 + 4K Blu-ray player with customized Cinema mode (for Dolby Vision) & ISF Expert Dark Room (for HDR10). However, I can’t find any calibration settings online for best picture quality when using the TV’s built-in RUclips app. Any recommendations?
I hugely noticed pixel shift on. I was so confused why the bezel on one side of tv was thicker and realized it was just the stupid pixel shift. Glad it wasn't a defect like I originally thought
Ha,go figure 🤔
Without the pixel shift the screen would burn in fast.
I'm guessing your using the TV as a PC monitor, as I could then see you being able to tell. Otherwise with other inputs its almost impossible to tell. OLED and PC monitor use is where you have to be the most careful about burn in with static images, but damn does it ever look amazing at 120hz with G-sync enabled.......Such a dilemma otherwise I would also use my PC with my LG B9, but I'm not rich enough to expose it to high risk burn in and simply replace it if needed. I did try it out for about 10-15 min and ran a few games and damn did it look classy....
Wish I was a baller I would just buy a 2nd one for exclusive PC Monitor use....but I'm not R.I.P
Thank you :_)
Is this unchanged for the C9? Also, very good videos! You are a born instructor
Amazing video, perfect explanation just what I needed. LED user here, what about LED Local Dimming what do you recommend?
this is an OLED TV not an LED TV.... The OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes which ARE direct rear lit diodes, much faster to change and can go a deeper black and whiter white if set up properly.... An ordinary LED TV is not in the same league as an OLED.... if you can't see the difference go to Specsavers
Hi Would all these settings work on the Signature W8 as well?
Can you guys make new vid for the cx series
whats the input lag in PC Mode? cause i want to use that for consoles too as i hate how red texts look without 4:4:4
great video, is this also valid for c9?
Hi, I have bought a C8 yesterday, for cinema viewing it is amazingly great, however it is really terrible to watch fast moving images like a cricket ball or football. Can you please suggest how to fix it? I tried to increase the juddering level in user setting, but it does not help, neither in the smooth option.
What's the setting to get rid of the horrible clouding at all grey levels and the constant brightness adjustments (this is dependant on the scene) so does not occur all the time... Other then that it's great!
Hi, wondering.. My tv the one in this video. If I plug a cable box or blu ray inyo hdmi 2 (arc) port it works initially but after a while i just get a black screen. Menus still show but no picture??? Any ideas if its faulty or me doing something wrong???
Please make a Sony A8F too! 😃👍🏽
Does it mean for HDR/DV Content I should use Cinema (Home) Mode with its default settings, or with adjusted settings from this video?
do these also apply to C9 and CX panels ?
Great video. Just picked up the B8 yesterday.
How is looking to get one myself can get the 65 inch for £1.500
@@davidmoore1729 It's the best TV I have ever owned. I'm coming from a Samsung 55 KS8000(another really good TV). I bought it primarily for gaming and i'm just amazed. Movies, on this thing, especially running in Dolby Vision is so amazing. The TV blew my expectations out of the water.
Forgot to mention the motion on this thing. Almost no LAG and the motion is buttery smooth.
How is the out of the box picture settings did u need to do a calibration or not and wots the colour like does it get bright? Wot about screen burn!!!
@@davidmoore1729 The out of the box pictures were good. It was on the cold side, so I brought the color temp down to W40. It does get bright. Not super bright though. I think the QLED TVs are much brighter than it is. I've only had it for a few days so I'm not concerned about burn ins. Also if you use this TV properly you'll be fine.
I’m a AV Vet, And I have a E8 coming this week, I Run everything through my Denon Receiver, I have 3 4K players and a Sony Upscaling Player (not boasting just mentioning it you’ll read why) obviously the Sony player is not DV/HDR but it all goes through the Denon, So will the TV Know I have 2 kinds of sources of display as in HDR and a Upscaler ?
I like my 2nd HDMI to have the same settings as it’s the ‘Movie’ port from the Denon, I use HDMI 1 for my Satellite Box..
So all the switching is via the Denon.
Did lg learn how to manufacture these oled screens without vertical bands in 5% gray?
because I have an oled55b7p that in less than 2 years appeared a stain that is called a vignette, will switch to another panel and even the new one appears but on another lcal of the screen.
Has this microscopic manufacturing error been corrected?
Does the C8 stand hold the panel up higher than the b8 stand? Trying to figure out if a soundbar will fit in front of it
Just got my OLED and I've been playing "Sekiro: Shadows die Twice" and spawned in the "fountainhead Palace" area of the game to test the GAME setting for HDR mode. I've found no matter how much I try to calibrate it, the default settings on that mode make it look the best. I'll be trying other areas to see if I can get similar results, but if I'm wrong about it being the best way to experience things I'm happy to take advice.
HDR game mode is accurate out of the box, don't mess with the OLED light or contrast, all you should do is change the colour temperature to W40 for a more accurate picture. Apart from that enjoy!
Recently I have bought B9 oled. I have checked on rtings website and it shows that pre calibration settings is very poor on this TV and got a score of 4.9 only. So after using the settings in the video will I get that 9.5 rating of post calibration in b9?
Whats best settings for sports?
Thanks a lot for this video! I'm just wondering, do i keep the standard settings for HDR and Dolby Vision content besides the 100%/50% Oled Brightness? Or should i change the other settings too like you showed us for SDR content?
I'm also curious about this.
👆this! The video is great but I’m not 100% clear on this as well. Specifically the Contrast option which seem to be set at 100 by default for HDR10 (Cinema) and Dolby Vision (Cinema Home).
It’s not clear to me if contrast should be at 85 “to avoid clipping” or that only applies for SDR/non-HDR content.
Anyone?
They give more clear details on their website. I will give a quote here: "For HDR and DolbyVision - We recommend leaving these settings as-is, do not copy our SDR settings over. "
Thanks Rtings. I used similar settings for my C8 so your video was a good confirmation that I did everything right. Can u please tell me whether to use limited range or full range rgb settings on ps4 (pro)? With set to full I feel that there's a slight black crush and limited seems kinda washed out.
Full always!
Daniel R Just asset it to Auto.
When you use full you are literally adding about 12% more black (brightness setting) and white (contrast setting) levels. The original XB did not even output the complete limited range (16-235) let alone the full range (0-255). You need to change settings on the PS4 and the TV while using a brightness/contrast slide (aka black level/white level) and see how it looks. This will only help you for SDR content. For HDR game mode the TV defaults are correct: contrast 100, brightness 50, dynamic contrast low. Use OLED light to compensate for room 'brightness' (not the brightness setting!). This is the maximum quality output/the most detail/the most range. Some people have room or eye or sunlight issues or AVR's that won't pass 4k/HDR or just 'low quality' preferences (like "pop!") that make them love other settings.
Need one do lg cx
Some options like 'Aspect Ratio' and 'Black Level' are grayed out on my 65B8. How do I unlock them?
Do I have to turn off noise reduction and mpeg noise reduction in Dolby vision settings?
Hi, I have the LG 49 sm8600.
If a movie offer both Dolby Vision and HDR10, how do I choose in the tv one or the other?
The Tv take automatically Dolby Vision but I actually want to change in HDR10!
Many thanks
Please advise me on how to change the resolution on B8 to 720P to suit my karaoke component input. Thanks.
Interesting about manual pixel refresh not causing any issues if you run it frequently. Apparently Sony's refreher says you shouldn't run it more than once a year. But then their process might be different and more aggressive. Would be good to have this feature more thoroughly investigated on oled panels just to conclusively check it doesn't accelerate panel aging make uniformity issues worse or dim the screen by accelerating pixel degradation if used too frequently like I've heard touted around the industry on forums etc
Which TruMotion settings do you guys use for 24fps content?
I assume I can use these similar settings with a c9
Any CX owners here
So should I use Super Resolution for say, DVDRips?
please do a video for samsung q7fn and q8fn
Can you show the best Settings for the 2020 B9?
Hi. Please help me calibrate all the functions of my B8Pla TV. Thank you
What settings are best for TV viewing?
I'm a little confused. On your website you said for HDR to turn off dynamic time napping and warm 1 is best color setting. But in the video you don't go over that.
Hi I’m looking at purchasing the LG B8 55inch model and was wondering how to calibrate it yourself without having to pay for a professional
guys can you send your lg c8 dolby vison and hdr 10 white balance settingS,bc your sdr settings made my pciture look so good.
My issue is Netflix tends to automatically turn on HDR. Is their a way to set the tv to where it can detect HDR gaming vs HDR movies? Also is it okay to leave the tv on ifs dark room instead of game mode when gaming AND watching shows?
I am using a 4K hdmi cable from pc to my lg oled C8 tv . Some of the picture options are greyed out why is that ?
