Hey! Shout out to Fairfield BJ's! Thanks for the review. I just picked up the panel from the same spot you were standing. Just unboxed and I am trying the banding / DSE tests now (hockey player test). Seems acceptable for $500.
That is awesome Brody!! Congratulations on your purchase and much love to Fairfield! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and please let me know how you like it👍
I have a TCL got it off walmart.com I have some dirty screen effect had it for 4 months. The dirty screen was manageable barely show up three lines running down the middle of the screen . Over time the dirty screen effect lessened by 95% I very rarely see it now. I notice it maybe once a month, month and 1/2 only because I know it's there. Very happy with the tv. Some blooming on movie credits on black backgrounds.
I got a 65" TCL, first big TV I've ever had and I've been trying to figure out what this issue is for a long time. It's pretty severe and in my case I notice it mostly as a green tint in certain colours and scenes very inconsistent across the panel, the right hand side is severely affected but the bottom left corner is okay, for example
Another great video Brian! I noticed that the model number was 613? what is the difference between that and the 615/17? off the top of my head from memory, didn't Rtings say TCL use a cheaper VA RGB panel substrate that lowers overall color gamut?
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Right, do you know what TCL have this year in any QLED capacity? considering the Chinese economic downturn? if Vizio can continue the good start with the Quantum, this could get interesting.
Great work Brian, I'm suffering severe vertical banding in my Samsung au7000, I noticed it when I connected my PS5 and the dashboard is kinda gray, so I begin to see this vertical light stripes, and it's more prevalent in gray and solid colors, it's driving me nuts I just can stand it and I can't play. Samsung won't change the tv cause they say it works fine, I'm starting to search for another TV without this. Cheers from Argentina!!
I am considering the 75 inch 6 series. I cant find any solid reviews on it. I'm wondering if it has the same "issues" the smaller ones have. After all the 75 is 120hz and has more dimming zones. Is it worth the 1800 or should I save up to buy the 75inch q8fn?
Hello , I want to be able to tell you to go for it and if the 6series is really all you can do financially then its a solid choice. The problem is anything below the q8fn has very limited local dimming which will show up in a darker room , effect balcks and create excessive blooming , there is a video on the channel of the q9 and below it the q7 and the blooming was really noticeable on the q7 amd the 6 will be a bit worse. Its a good display but in my humble opinion the full array q8fn is worth saving up for. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your question and for watching the video
My new series 6 TCL 55r635 after a week had horizontal banding and very grainy image. Kept calling TCL and they keep telling me to do a factory reset for audio and picture setting. We did this 3 times and the graininess and horizontal band comes back. This is on movies and tv shows. Not sure what to do.
Hello Ruth, I would simply send it back to the retailer. There is no point in struggling with the display or manufacturer. I would definitely swap it out for another tcl and if the next has issues we will definitely find you another option. Please let me know how it goes. I have a TCL 6, it has slight DSE and a single very faint vertical band on the right hand side, but it’s only noticeable on a grey screen. I have seen others that looked REALLY bad that I would say is unacceptable. Really it all depends if you get lucky or not but for the price the TV is absolutely amazing, the Roku implementation is also pretty sweet. Worst case scenario, return the tv for another one.

I have noticed it more with local dimming on , currently have dimming off. It's kind of a weird effect like the screen seems to be fluttering brightness but it's hard to spot sometimes so I'm thinking more it's the outer part of the screen and creating a weird effect when the pixels shine through it. Bc moving to different angles while it's happening eliminates the problem or has it move to a different spot. That's kinda why I thought maybe DSE

Great question dave! In costco it all depends. This is a BJ's wholesale retailer and is clean but can't confirm it 4k. Tcl and some other brands are known to have some screen issues like dse ( not all ofcourse 😁) and at times it can be cleared up with a factory reset or unplugging it. I lost the panel lottery big time with the R625. I didn’t even really catch the issue until I started watching movies on it a couple weeks afterward, but once I saw it there was no unseeing it. It was a rather nasty purple haze that showed up HUGELY on any scene that’s mostly dark and/or grey. The buildup of it was at its worse in the middle of the screen and dissipated to some extent as your eyes left the center. I did eventually get to replace it with the R635 which in comparison is superior in EVERY way. With that one, I can say I won the lottery. It was awful though, because outside of that the R625 was quite a nice panel. Coming from a M7 series Vizio the panel was overall a step up, though out of the box color was atrocious.
I own a 55 inch sony x930e owned it for a year great tv flawless screen i think i got a perfect screen ....that being said a week ago i bought the 55 inch TCL6 series i think the 6 series is a great tv for $549 you cant beat the price and full blown tech in this tv i paid $1601 for the x930e which is a super charged tank everything about the x930 screams premium tv image quality is top notch oh so good😋 The tcl 6 series does everthing dolby vision hdr10 hlrg roku operating system well its not the sony x930e but it does a fine job DSE is present but not bad at $549 its to be expected i rarely see it....i am thoroughly impressed with the TCL 6 series😋if your on a budget i highly recommend the TCL 6 series😋
andy noburn most definitely. Had the H9, unhappy with it for a variety of reasons. Tracked down r625 and it’s got some vignetting and some color banding but only in a super limited context of situations. The HDR is far, far better in the TCL
I have an almost fully oval dark spot right in the middle of the TV. It's huge too. Noticed in in lighter scenes likes the sky in Red Dead 2. Worse looking at it with a gray background on my pc. Idk if I should go with an exchange, too much of a hassle. Im too sensitive to stuff like that. I guess for the price it's alright?
It needs to go back my friend! That isn't dirty screen effect or banding thats a screen defect and if it bothers you now it will only get worse both physically to the panel and it will drive you nuts. I hope this helps and thank you for your comment and for watching the video and channel

I know this might sound like a stupid question but I don’t only have dirty screen effect on just one area but the whole screen from top to bottom should I exchange it (serious question) I’m still on my exchange window please reply
Hello David, that is in no shape or form a stupid question. Dirty screen effect is a real issue and if you have it to where you notice it I recommend sending it back and thats even if it's in an area of the screen where you notice it. Your saying its all over the screen then that my friend has to be returned. It won't disappear or fade and if it's distracting now it will only make it much more noticeable as your return window closes and will ruin the experience for you more than it already has. Keep in mind that the next one might be bad as well and I suggest you don't settle until its minimal. It will never be super clean but minimal. Hope this helps and please let me know how it goes. Thank you for watching the video and channel
The tv I just got is a 65 q8fn and the problem is that the 65 in is sold out I got it from amazon, is there any way that I could exchange it for a 55 in instead and get the difference in price back , just asking in case you ran into this issue before
I regards to amazon it all depends on the seller. They should take the return and credit you the difference. Just call customer service and ask they are usually pretty helpful
Yes it's full array my friend! This is the 2018 in the video and maxes out at about 1100 nits. I hope this helps and thank you for your question and for watching the video and channel
I had the TCL P605 from 2017 and it had a bunch of DSE, but honestly I don't care about that. It's like u said, it's inherent to LCD tvs. Just more so with three TCLs. I mean I have a 65Z9D and it's a flagship, but it still has DSE. My LG C7 has vertical banding and I don't let that bother me either. Honestly if people would just watch there displays instead of looking for problems they would enjoy there the much more. I'm just happy to have a couple nice tvs.
Great comment Anthony and an even better point of view and you have some kick ass displays so you know your stuff! Thank you for taking the time to comment on your personal experience and for watching the video
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I honestly don't really know what DSE is because I have never noticed it on my 900E. That is not a bragging thing, I don't remember ever seeing DSE on my 900E.
90% of tvs have DSE some more some less, Banding is what you gotta look out for. My Vizio led tv arrived with DSE when I first purchase back in 2014, now ? It gotten a little worst and developed Banding. Does it distract me from watching regular stuff on tv ? Not really..
Got my TCl 75 inch 6 series. No DSE. No Banding. It has deeper blacks and detail than my 4000 dollars samsung PNf8500 high end plasma. Very happy with it and it costed me 1500 cad.

My friend and sister recently bought this tv and I installed it for them, I didn’t noticed any banding or dirty screen effect, But that was on the first day.. I did played with my sisters for a couple of hours and everything was looking perfect. I think TCL is shipping these TVs lately with better results. Maybe the first 3 months after release date this was a constant issue, but I think is going to be rare to find them with banding issues or exaggerated DSE today
That is great information Randi! Thank you for sharing your personal experience with the Tcl as it really helps those in the comments looking to make a decision on maybe purchasing a TCL.
so i had 2 TCLs both r615 from Best Buy the 55 inch and when i first hooked it up i was kinda blown away from how good the pic quality was but unfortunately it had lots of banding and DSE i could notice it no matter what i was watching on the 1st one there was 3 bands on the right side of the screen and 1 big one through the center of the screen and on the 2nd one it was going through the entire screen and some of them were so bad that u could actually see the led zones and the other problem i had with mine was the local dimming like when i was watching a movie with black bars i would get lots of flash lighting, light bleed, clouding so it killed it for me now i have seen people that have gotten lucky and have gotten a good panel with no banding but that is a very rare thing with these TVs i would say if u dont always see it then maybe keep it or u could and get another is what i would do or what i actually did i exchanged mine for the 2018 Vizio P Series and im very happy with it i have no banding no dirt screen did i get lucky probably so but ive also heard that Vizio actually fixed a lot of the issues that people were having with the P Series like banding and some people were having problems with the hdmi ports but if u have the extra cash u would have a lot more luck with the Vizio u might have 2 return 1 or 2 but at least it isnt a problem with all their TVs like it is with TCL also if u keep checking u might find the Vizio P Series on sale ive see the 55 inch on sale for as low as 649 a lil more expensive than the TCL but ur also getting a much much better display anyways sorry for the long comment i hope this helped a little good luck i hope ur able 2 get a good one
Scott DiCiesare wow that sucks that you had those problems with the tcl, but I’m glad you found the Vizio and it’s working out for you. Knowing how bad your TCLs were I think I actually got kind of lucky, or already not very unlucky. The Vizio P series does look very i wresting to me, especially at only $700 at Best Buy, but it’s still a little too much for me. Anyways thank you your comment really helped.

not just dse and banding. the purple textures at 4k resolution on games due to sub pixel dimming was the real dealbreaker for me. They fixed it in the r625
You never got a chance to respond on whether or not $999 was a good price on p series 65” Vizio? Obviously not the quantum.. your input helps a lot man! And also do you recommend spending the extra on the 2 or 5 yr warranty?
Sorry you didn't mention what size, but yes that is the going price . I would get the warranty only because there are many issues with displays these days.
Whisper Status 74 I did respond but figured it got lost once you posted this video but.. no worries thank you for getting back to me! The true answer to this issue is never buy china brands or products. Why paying for a products that you already for sure will give you problems later at home. Isnt that a stupid thing to do ?

Well said bruttis and really great points and comparison! Thank you for taking the time to comment and thank you for watching the video
I've had my 930E a little over a year & a half now.
would you take the TCL over the Hisense H9F ?
andy noburn most definitely.
Whisper Status 74 and of course! Thanks for the video
I didn't get the link my friend?
Whisper Status 74 it’s on the comment up top. Not sure if links aren’t allowed in comments so I changed the . to (dot)
Here’s the actual without changing

Wow!! Yeah that has to go back bro!
Thank you
My pleasure David please let me know how you make out!
Good info!
Thank you Peanut! Thank you for taking the time to comment and and for watching the video
This model has FALD? How much Nits brightness?
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thanks man, and your welcome.
Do you think the DSE is because this series is 60Hz or that should have no effect?
I don't believe thats the issue. I think it's really a screen issue as in its manufacturing or the material they used
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I honestly don't really know what DSE is because I have never noticed it on my 900E. That is not a bragging thing, I don't remember ever seeing DSE on my 900E.
It really is what it sounds like. It looks like dirt or stains all over the screen this transparent but very visible
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY that would annoy me, glad my 900E doesn't have it. At least I have never noticed it.
Awesome comment Rajeev! Congratulations on your purchase my friend and I'm so glad you are loving it. Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your personal experience with the Tcl and for watching the video and channel
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY thank you for your support and advice on tech. It Really helps.
I must have gotten lucky mine is fine 😃
Great to hear it Jeremy!! Thank you for taking the time to comment and thank you for watching the video!
With the TCLS I meant. Not 3. Haha. Just had the one.
Great information.
Thank you!
I still love my 900e
Banding or dse always a no go take it back save your money for a better screen
Great comment Roland! Thank you for watching the video
Nice👍
Thank you my friend!! Hope you are doing awesome!
so i had 2 TCLs both r615 from Best Buy the 55 inch and when i first hooked it up i was kinda blown away from how good the pic quality was but unfortunately it had lots of banding and DSE i could notice it no matter what i was watching on the 1st one there was 3 bands on the right side of the screen and 1 big one through the center of the screen and on the 2nd one it was going through the entire screen and some of them were so bad that u could actually see the led zones and the other problem i had with mine was the local dimming like when i was watching a movie with black bars i would get lots of flash lighting, light bleed, clouding so it killed it for me now i have seen people that have gotten lucky and have gotten a good panel with no banding but that is a very rare thing with these TVs i would say if u dont always see it then maybe keep it or u could and get another is what i would do or what i actually did i exchanged mine for the 2018 Vizio P Series and im very happy with it i have no banding no dirt screen did i get lucky probably so but ive also heard that Vizio actually fixed a lot of the issues that people were having with the P Series like banding and some people were having problems with the hdmi ports but if u have the extra cash u would have a lot more luck with the Vizio u might have 2 return 1 or 2 but at least it isnt a problem with all their TVs like it is with TCL also if u keep checking u might find the Vizio P Series on sale ive see the 55 inch on sale for as low as 649 a lil more expensive than the TCL but ur also getting a much much better display anyways sorry for the long comment i hope this helped a little good luck i hope ur able 2 get a good one
@@patrickmoney1894 awesome yea the tcl is a awesome tv if the banding isnt really bad that is so if u got a good 1 then keep it 4 sure cause u got a awesome tv for sure
My boy Scott coming through with the amazing and helpful comment!! Thank you bro!
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY o no problem im always happy 2 help
is vixio worth the extra money vs no dse or banding tcl 6 series?
Panel lottery..
not just dse and banding. the purple textures at 4k resolution on games due to sub pixel dimming was the real dealbreaker for me. They fixed it in the r625
Well said dethpuck! Thank you!
Great vid
Thank you Robert!
You still recommend this over the tcl 6 series.. working with 1k budget just want the most for my money.. Went top tier last time and spent 4K on my last Samsung set just to get burned 3 and a half yrs later! It’s just so bad now..So mad about it! So I refuse to spend that much again..
I would still recommend the vizio however if you read the comments on the tcl video you will see lots of opinions of actual owners that also may be able to help in your decision.
The true answer to this issue is never buy china brands or products. Why paying for a products that you already for sure will give you problems later at home. Isnt that a stupid thing to do ?
So you don't buy Samsung or Sony products
@@bigseek00 Isn't Samsung Korean and Sony Japanese?
This DSE shit drives me nuts
It's a nightmare my friend and probably the biggest problem of modern tv's. Thank you for watching
Stop selling this shit panel Screen with banding and dse every company do this. This is crazy yesterday I send back 4 samsung back.
Thank you for your comment and I understand your frustration Jacek! I sent back 11 highend panels in 2016 so bekieve me I get it! Can you tell me what display you are struggling with? Is it the tcl in this video or the Samsungs? You took the time to comment Jacek can you just give me a little more information and I'd like to help...
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I send back last time 4 tv samsung ue65nu8072 every one have terrible banding, Philips 65PUS8102 this same 3 Times sending back, lg 50UK6950 sending back right now I have samsung ue50nu7442 with no banding issue but I need bigger panel 65. All the time when I buy new one banding issue and I have to send back 😑
That is awful Jacek! I wish I could tell you that its gets bettet at the highend of those manufacturers but it doesn't! Screen uniformity has become the biggest issue with all displays regardless of the price which is why its called the panel lottery. I'm sorry your going through this but all you can do is keep sending them back. Good luck and please let me know how it goes
