I just bought the old bear (large)walnut and compared it to my opinel no9.The old bearfeels far better and the locking mechanism is much nicer..I will definitely be changing the opinel handle now.

Happy birthday! When I turned 40 I thought man this sucks! But I turn 70 this year so 40 was a breeze! And I'm still doing good for an old fart!
Hope you have a great birthday and many more!

Happy B’Day, Drew! Never would’ve guessed you’re the big 4-0! That country lifestyle agrees with you! Excellent review of the Old Bear knife, but I think with your skills you make any knife look good. LOL. Have a great day!

I just ordered one mostly for cooking while camping. Aside from the good reviews I live in the mountains in a place called Big Bear, I’m no spring chicken thus I’m like an old bear lol. Thanks for the video.

@@MountaincraftOutdoors well, I just got it, planning to use just for cooking when camping nothing extreme and was disappointed. The lock doesn’t work very well on the closed position leaving the pointy end moving upward sticking out considerably, that means is going to get stuck in my pack snagging things and possibly cutting me. Maybe I got a defective one but also I found the blade not as sharp as the Opinel. I really wanted to like it but sadly is going back.

40? Wow, you sure don't look it:) I'm coming up on 60 but don't tell anyone;)
I've been thinking about picking up one of those because the lock seems to have a better design. I use my opinel mostly for cleaning fish/outdoor food prep & it's hard to turn the lock with cold hands.
Happy birthday! Wishing you many more happy fun days in the great outdoors:)

Thank you Trish, I guess breathing that green air keeps you young. It's only a number. I really like the locking system and the knife. Thanks for being here and take care!

A 95 % conterfeit Opinel can't be an alternative to an Opinel...

    • @MountaincraftOutdoors
      @MountaincraftOutdoors  2 года назад +1

Do you feel the same way about fixed blades? I'm sure there was an original, I suppose the rest could be 95% counterfeit.

Or folding knives with a liner lock, back lock, access lock? Etc.

Opinel is the original but that doesn't make old Bear a counterfeit, that is just my humble opinion. I appreciate yours. Thanks for watching.

@@MountaincraftOutdoors The shape of the handle is identical, the shape of the blade is identical, the 100% wooden handle is identical, the only difference is the blade blocking system. If there are no copyrights any longer, due to the age of the Opinel model, then it is not a conterfeit Opinel.

    • @cmnndr987

@@MrPhillyval youre using identical loosely. shape of blade isnt identical. grind is flat on opinel, single bevel on antonini. steel is different as well. opinel has sandvik whatever and antonini aisi 420. shape of handle isnt identical either. opinel has a barell shaped handle, antonini has a flat handle. the bolsters arent identical either opinel using a stainless steel one while antonini has a brass bolster. youre using copyrights loosely as well. both brands have patents for their locking systems which make them unique, not blade shape, steel, handle shape or handle material. i am very curious about a knife that has one of these patented IF ANY. also saying one is a counterfeit of the other based on, i assume personal preference or best case scenario on the foundation year of one brand over the other is farfetched. youre welcome

Nice video Drew. Happy (belated) Birthday to you Drew! Good health & happiness to you buddy!
Nice folder. Does a good job. Kind of like an Opinel knife. Never seen this brand knife. Interesting system to lock & hold blade in place. I wonder which knife would come out ahead in a “face-off” test? I kind of like the lock on this one and the color of the handle.
I agree 100% with your philosophy of handling all the BS in the world today. Only way to stay sane. Take care Drew. 👍🏻💪🏻☘️🇺🇸

I think if the Old Bear and the Opinel had a baby... Maybe an Opinel blade with an Old Bear handle. Thank you and take care brother! 💪🇺🇲🤙

I am considering getting one, does the blade also get stuck when its cold, like when leaving it in your desk overnight, i am asking it because opinel does this and i absolute hate that.
