Next to Split/Second, Blur is probably one of the biggest racing game travesties, in the sense that it was completely overlooked, when they're really top-notch games!
The problem as I see it is that both games were new IP but their publishers were expecting sales numbers similar to the big franchises eg NFS, Gran Turismo, F1 etc. I don't know what SplitSecond ultimately sold but it easily outsold Blur at launch and Blur when on to be profitable, so it's not inconceivable that both games could have had successful sequels.
Thank you for the cool review. The reason Blur didn’t sell was 2 main reasons. 1. Really 💩 marketing and 2. GameStop wanted more sales margin and Activision said no so GS cancelled all stock and preorders and PoS (posters & window displays) and it was removed from the New Release shelves and it was not placed in the artificial in-store top 10 shelf displays. In the end each store received approximately 2 copies that was bookended on the bottom shelf in alphabetical order and had no store or shelf presence on launch. Meanwhile everyone bought Red Dead Redemption. Blur 2 became NASCAR Unleashed check it the prototype tracks are all in it including Downtown LA from Blur 1 and the Dubai Hotel wall ride from the leaked Blur 2 dev footage.
Revenge was another very underrated game. I actually prefer it to 3. Closest you can get to a next gen version would be either PC with mods or possibly on Xbox X/S through back compatibility.
Blur was a frigging masterpiece! My first experience with it was outside a game shop on an X360. Managed to play it on PC a few years ago, aced the entire career. That feeling was amazing!
I love this game very underrated too. I remember getting this as a christmas present and I remember playing the online and man the online was fun. I just wish you could still get it on steam.
One of the big disadvantages with using licensed cars is that when the license expires the game gets pulled from digital sales. Another reason why I prefer physical over digital.
While it may have been a commercial failure, we have almsot 12k members in our discord. No other game community from 2010 in the racing genre has such an active community like blur. Often we still have random 20 player lobbies online on weekends, and constant 10 player lobbies all throughout the week. Blur has the greatest longevity of any racing game I've seen in a long time.
I picked up Blur and Split second today. Split second was 7.99 and The ps3 version of Blur at my local game shop was 30 dollars. But i found the 360 version at another place for 9.99. Now is the time to get these games because 360 and ps3 games are gonna shoot up
man when i was child i used to play only racing games blur , grid 1,2 and split a second is by far my favorite games of all time i finished blur maybe 20 times i was addicted to it man it's heartbreaking that it didn't get a second chance i wish i can play it one more time
I appreciate the level of detail included in this review, especially the history of Bizarre Creations. I recently collected all four PGR games and became interested in what other titles that this studio developed. For the moment I may forgo Blur as it does not have steering wheel support (of late I've been focused on getting steering wheel supported games to livestream). But I may consider it when I come back around for car games to be used with a controller. When I do, MSR and a couple other games will take priority before Blur.
This is probably my second favorite racing game ever after NFS most wanted (2005). And I remember Hot Pursuit coming out that year as well and while it was fun, it never felt as good as this.
In my opinion, Blur and Jak X are very similar and my favorite racing games. Combat racing is rare (if you don't count kart racing) and should be done more
"What it's like to play today." - It's simply awesome. When you are with friends, just split screen it on you TV and have fun! A super cool game to boot up on party evenings :) People love Mario Kart, but despite Blur, and I simply don't get that... Just Activision sucks. As they always did and always will...
Killzone 2 Killzone 3 Dead Space 2 The uncharted games (if you don't own a PS4) The last of us (if you don't own a PS4/PS5) The Motorstorm games God of War: Ascension The Yakuza games
@@goukigod thanks man i played the uncharted games and last of us on ps5 but looking to play some classic ps3 games i missed as a kid. I’m planning on playing all the god of war games as i’ve only played the 2018 one.
fur fighters??? lol holy that demo from dreamcast magazine i played so damn much omfg on blur tho sick video. lol but come on man it's post covid. lan isnt gonna be a thing for majority of people.
One of the reason I got into blur is the good, the bad & the ugly song that they used in this. One added note for the story of the game is there is a trailer of the game that I watch when it came out that emphasises the story but when I got it it wasn’t there. It’s a shame but it got me thinking is the story did finished and got into the trailer and they removed it was a last minute effort.
BLUR ❤️🏎

I think BLUR is superior
Thankyou for the review and linking our discord community, very much appreciated
No worries! You're welcome!

I loved Blur so much. It was right up there with Burnout Revenge and Paradise for me. I want this game on PS4/5 so freaking bad.
Revenge was another very underrated game. I actually prefer it to 3. Closest you can get to a next gen version would be either PC with mods or possibly on Xbox X/S through back compatibility.
@@goukigod I also prefer Revenge to 3. If I can get a Series X at some point I'll definitely have to buy it.

you can still download it online and connect to multiplayer

Agreed. Gen 7 games have already started going up in price. 18 months ago I picked up both for $5 ea.
Do not forget about the Motorstorm Series
@blackbatman3152 I posted about Motorstorm on my channel. They are dirt cheap right now. Still fun as hell especially with a steering wheel
man when i was child i used to play only racing games blur , grid 1,2 and split a second is by far my favorite games of all time i finished blur maybe 20 times i was addicted to it man it's heartbreaking that it didn't get a second chance i wish i can play it one more time
Blur is a hidden gem 9/10. The music, the sound fx the feel of the racing and the balance. Not to mention the shut up pinky commercial.
The “ sense of speed “ feeling in this game was god tier. Put you in a trance
Blur is the best racing game and one of the best games I've ever played and I'm O.G

The PGR games are really incredible! Love MSR too. Spent many nights huddled round my mate's 32 cm CRT back in the day playing it!
1:09 I like this cut before disaster
Me too!
This is probably my second favorite racing game ever after NFS most wanted (2005). And I remember Hot Pursuit coming out that year as well and while it was fun, it never felt as good as this.
Just finished it on PC. The game initially launched in 2160p and run at perfect 60 fps. With some AutoHDR, it looked to damn good.
In my opinion, Blur and Jak X are very similar and my favorite racing games.
Combat racing is rare (if you don't count kart racing) and should be done more
This game has formed my childhood. I played it with my brothers on LAN and I still play it now online💗💗💗
Amazing!
Remind me of my first year in college
Just for clarity in multiplayer you can change the settings to make the items random that's how we always played👍🏽
Good tip!
Brock Lee never got to experience blur 😔
Hope they will bring it on Mobile Games. We used to play this Game alot. This is Our most favourite game till now. But sadly there is no Blur game now
Anyone know where you can get this now?
Second hand is probably your best bet.
Thanks for this.
My pleasure!
I own both Blur and Split Second, I never bothered with any of the other racing games in that particular time.
There a plenty of other great games from that era but nothing quite like those two

i need recommendations for PS3 Games
Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Dead Space 2
The uncharted games (if you don't own a PS4)
The last of us (if you don't own a PS4/PS5)
The Motorstorm games
God of War: Ascension
The Yakuza games

I always thought the PS3/Xbox version was much worse -quality wise- than the PC version. If that's not the case, I might buy it for PS3.
They run at lower frame rates and resolutions but Bizarre Creation did an outstanding job at optimising each port.
lol publishers NEVER push release dates to allow developers to improve game. GG
🤔
Wait what? Blur was on PC? And the only way to buy it these days is physical huh....
Allrighty then.....Thank you very much :)
Yep! The PC community is quite active. You might want to hit up their discord to help track down a copy discord.gg/ep7Hc6H

Dude, LAN will forever be the best way to play with friends. You can't slap, fart on or cheers your friends online.

Apparently that's exactly what happened.
The lightning is the blue shell of blur
I guess you could see it that way. It does target the front of the pack but not specifically the leader and anyone can get it, even the leader.
Never played these games.
You're missing out!
This game needs a remaster
Or a re-boot
Mario Kart with real life cars! NFS Hot Pursuit did it better!
Criterion's Hot pursuit is excellent but mario kart-esk it is not.
They did the club???? Shittttttt that game sucked😂
