Looks like RUclips has given this video another blessing and has chosen it for the algorithm once again! I would like to mention that I forgot one major discovery regarding the game and that has to do with the in-game cheat codes found by Nenkai earlier this year. You can find that video linked in the description as well as the video covering the Spec II mod!

That's the beauty of Gran Turismo 4. Even when you have all the money and the race cars, there's still pleasure driving some obscure hatchback on trial mountains or destroying the AI with your 600 hp skyline. So many cars to test, so many events and races. It's a single player hardcore drug.

    • @n_tas
      @n_tas Год назад +15

No it doesn't, it just shows that GT4 was amazing, has aged well, is easy to run and, most importantly, is free. I guarantee that if GT5 or 6 were as easy to run upscaled to 1080p or 4K as GT4 is then we'd be modding that to add a GT4-like career mode instead of modding GT4 to add GT5/6-like graphics.

Okay, don’t get wrong I liked Forza Horizon 4, but it really did feel like the only FH game that didn’t know what it wanted to be. FH1-3 were single player focused with good progression and campaign. FH5 is multiplayer focused with live service and lots of community content. FH4 is an awkward midground between the two, and while don’t get me wrong, the map of FH4 is fantastic, it doesn’t scratch the itches the first three do, and 5 scratches the online itches much better

They aren't bad, in fact, they are some most well made and well optimised modern racing games but they don't really have a character and if you don't play multiplayer there's pretty much nothing to do. You can mess around with cars and track creators but you have to go out of your way to do that, there's no incentive to do anything.

To me, this game will always be the shining example of replayability. I may not complete the game, but each time I start a new playthrough it's different than the last. At least to some degree.
Admittedly I didn't like the game that much as a kid, the weird camera and lack of throttle control made it difficult to play for me back then. However pretty much every complaint one could have is fixable nowadays. With emulation this is as close to a flawless game as you can get. It aged fantastically, and will likely continue to age better than many modern racing games due to their over-reliance on online and shallow career offerings.
There really couldn't be a better time to give GT4 a try

Heyyyy hello dustin, I watch your vids lol!
So yeah anyways I really love GT4 in terms of replayability too. It's not just because it's got a load of cars, but the progression of the game is just too perfect to say the least. It's a mix of getting the cars too easily and too hard, like getting a kei car that is enjoying to cruise in a circuit and then replaying the whole 10 mile driving park course to get like the much better JGTC cars that you'll then drive at the likes of suzuka and nurburgring, is something that I would always try and do everytime I boot up the game and I absolutely never get bored of it. And if you don't want to race but you you do want to get yourself entertained, you can simply go to photo mode, play the game on director's mode, and watch the car simply drive all around as if you're watching like those top gear cinematic heli cams, and that's something other racing games lack.

what i mean about simracing peaking is the fact that direct drive steering wheels and such have never been more readily available than today. remember how much you had to pay for a logitech g25/27/29 back then? it was insane. nowadays a logitech g29 is $150 straight from logitech refurbished. it has never been more accessible at any point of time before now.

Man... I can't wait till Spec II mod comes out to the public. I was replaying GT4 but ran into issues running it in DX12, it was fixed on the latest PCSX2 updates (I don't like how Vulkan bogs down in some menus, DX12 runs smooth all around).
Playing GT4 in 4k is already a dream come true, having new sounds and improvements to the game would make it the best racing game for me.

Suggestions: add a trainer with options for a jump button, hydraulics, placeable ramps, placeable grind rails, wheelies, endos, nitrous, kickflips, heelflips, physics sliders, neons, night mode, rain, in-air tilt-ability (like gta), speed boost pads (like wipeout), and mp3 music player.

Id love to see new cars added into the game of that was possible but would be cool if the le-mans quattro was replaced with the r8

I've always played this game on native hardware for the nostalgia factor (I grew up on the PS2 Gran Turismos and GT3 is actually the game that came wtih my PS2 at Costco), but I've always been curious about exploring this game to the maximum through emulation. When I don't need to have it literally in my hands (that's what the PSP version is for), having this on my laptop could be a fantastic way to bring GT4 on the go (though with a Steam Deck I could have the best of both worlds hehe)!
Plus, as much as I'm liking GT7 and its seasonal events, I have to experience online racing in GT4 at least once.
I appreciate this very in-depth guide, it leaves very little stones, if any, unturned!

It would be great to see this kind of support for Tourist Trophy as well as the GT games. A cheat engine would be amazing, seeing as the race options in TT are extremely limited. Also, It has been a dream of mine to be able to race with cars and bikes in the same game, if this is even remotely possible.

Back in the days, I never finished the game. My PS2 died and I can only play on my cousin's PS2 Slim for around 3-4 hours during the weekends. Last year, I bought myself a decent laptop with decent graphics card. Emulators is kinda the thing nowadays and I finally beat the game. Not only that, I also learn how to play the game with manual transmission, which I avoided since the very first game. I also applied the beautification mods for it and ... despite the lack of modern cars, graphically, it looks like a modern high resolution racing games. Next is to find that sound mods. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I put so many hours into this game. I remember I would always have my PS2 to bring it to my mechanics class and we would play on the TV in the class during lunch (with teacher permission of course). We would show him what can be done to modify cars and he would point out how realistic or not that would actually be which in turn would turn into a small lesson for all of us

I recently revisited this same game and found it to be a lot more fun if you turn down a lot of the driving assists. Traction control and stability control down to almost off is a lot more Forza like and add JUST a little arcade to the way the cars handle. Basically allowing more tire spin and drift. Doing so I found myself enjoying racing more and just having to SLAM the brakes down to super low speed to make any corners.

It makes me want to know how mods work for PCSX2. I maybe able to port a few cars never before seen in GT4 especially GT500/GT300 cars but specced for GT4.

The basics are still amazing: driving physics, car selection, gt mode. But surely you have to accept the comical ai or the awful engine sounds. You have to play around those limitations: select the cars with the best sounds, don't use the racing exhaust, accept that you have to play bumper cars from time to time.
