Notice that when crossing the 100.000 points mark on a single drift, it says "Drift King" in blue letters 7:35. The magazine cover also reads "Drift King". Is that coincidence or might that be the actual, less obscure requirement for the magazine?
I actually tested this as well. But the magazine will not unlock when getting 100.000 points in one drift as well. The similar naming is probably just coincidence.
This took me a few hours to do when I went for all the Retro Achievements on this in May. The S2000 with stock tires on Track 8 was the easiest for me. You need to drift score in a single lap, but if you chain a drift into the next lap all your points move over, so try to set up a big chain just before the next lap and it makes it a lot easier. If you're emulating this and you like achievements I recommend the Retro Achievements set, it's more than just the magazines. Awesome video btw, can't imagine doing magazine 22 basically blind and trying to figure out what to even do.
@@Dzonnyg Besides the achievements? Not really, though installing it on modern systems can be a bit bothersome and I had issues with controller as well, which on emulator just works out of the box. But in terms of features I don't think there's any differences.

Love to see someone creating good content for nfs underground 1 , my favorite game of all time, played it when i was 4-5 years old for the first time in 2003-04 :D Keep up the good videos man, i really like them thanks👍🏻
I’ve got one for you. This is difficult, but nowhere near as bad as Carbon. There are challenge cards that each require you to “fill your garage with tuner cars, fill your garage with muscle cars, fill your garage with exotic cars” If I remember correctly, that would mean that IF you wanted to complete all of these challenge cards to unlock their respective rewards for quick race, AND get the pink slip to Angie’s Charger, you would have to grind enough money (at start of the game race pay) to buy 25 of each of the starter cars BEFORE taking on Angie.
I don't know what game you've been playing, but quite recently (a few months ago to be exact) I made the attempt at 100% reward card in NFS Carbon. The garage has 8 spaces, if I remember correctly, and your entire career, if you are good enough and "frugal" will allow you to earn well over a million dollars, easily enough for 5 additional Mazda RX-8s (assuming you start with a Tuner), and then take a quick action and buy 8 Camaro SS and 8 Alfa Romeo Brera. There is no condition for keeping the boss's car in the garage, and even if you want to keep it, it makes little sense. Additionally, the Collector's Edition (which in the times of Windows 10 is available to everyone) allows you to use these cars in a quick race mode (additional or bonus category). A bigger challenge is definitely the total cost of tickets collected, which you can't see until you get caught, and 50,000(or it's 20,000?) is a bit much, knowing that after the entire game I barely got 5k. The second more interesting card is 20 defense races. The entire career won't give you that many (they won't generate), and after completing it they don't appear either. You need to leave one race (better not the one with Darius) and enter and exit it until the defense race kicks in. 50 fights with other gangs is also annoying, but it takes about 2 minutes for one such criminal(nice one Google Translate) to spawn after leaving the hideout. Apart from the cards, this game has one more puzzle. Despite completing the game 100% and collecting all the reward cards (I admit, I used ExtraOptions to choose more cards from the bosses), I still don't have one hood and a few wheels. These are not multiplayer items, I unlocked them by changing the trigger to obtain them.
It's not exactly difficult, I managed to do it on the vanilla game. Started with muscle cars and ended up completing the entire game (apart from Darius) with Angie's Charger. Gave me enough money for the 1 million cash achievement, and then did the Tuner/Muscle/Exotic garage achievement. Still had enough left over to buy 3 Tier 3 cars and max them out after all this lmao
There's a way to do fill the garage with all types with glitches on any platform while fulfilling the 1 million cash requirement and having bosses' cars: 1. Unlock all races in career mode on any save. 2. Start a new game, pick Brera because it's the most expensive starter car. 3. Unlock 240SX from challenge series because it's the cheapest car. Now, for the glitchy part, there's wrong warp. You go to the quick race, select a race available in career mode (canyon stages of boss fights count as well) and escape out of the difficulty/traffic/opponents menu. Then you load a save that doesn't have it unlocked, go to free roam, drive to any of the events, select it and finally, change wingman. Now you're in the race that you selected in quick race. That's how Carbon's WR for NG+ is 9:25 - you just beat the tutorial and immediately select the last canyon with Darius. Now, with that knowledge: 4. Accumulate money by beating events in Silverton even though you don't have them unlocked (technically you need 280k, but at the start garage is actually less than 8 spaces, I don't know when it's expanded). 5. Fill the garage with Breras, then repeat the process for Camaros and 240SXs. 6. With one car only, trigger a game over by getting busted too many times. 7. Go back to the main menu and start the career. Now you have all the garages reward cards and can get a million by relying on boss cars and Nikki as a wingman. As @Peter97ptr said, defence races are a real challenge and clearly nobody even tested if 20 defence races are easy (well, it's marked as medium) to achieve, it should be 10.
Till date, I still use this game to humble a lot of my friends who are snobbish about their superior driving skills, just because they are good at Sim Racers. Honestly just using a fully tuned Impreza will make getting this surprisingly easy even with poor angle management. That car is somehow capable of maintaining angle insanely well on its own, requiring little countersteer. Only time you do need it is when you do reverse entry drifts which are both not counted by the game as a drift and is stupidly easy to pull off. 120 degree entry is just the norm on hairpins. But yes it is the hardest magazine to get because of developer oversight.
I actually enjoyed this. I went into it sincerely thinking it was gonna be a nostalgia-bait time waster. It was excellent. The Summoning Salt reference was kino, as well.
I didn't even know this was a problem. If you did heavy drifting you could chain the whole drift for a full 10 laps on the longest track. Wasn't that easy but with certain cars it was easier than others. As such doing a 4 lap chain was not something that was very hard if used to doing 10 lap chains. Given the scores count on the final lap that way you always will unlock Mag 22.
I can tell you put a lot of effort into this video, i know what its like to keep repeating and repeating the same dang race for hours lol. Good work! Hopefully some day i can unlock that too, just have to fix my Gamecube first lol
I drifted this track so many times with the RX7 that I scored over 1 million points of this track and got magazine cover. This was in 2003-2004 and today I'm 33 years old.
I loved the RX-7 on this game! (On the test track, I achieved a 7.2s quater mile with it) but for drifting mine had the habit of trying to bite me. I guess I know a bit more about suspension geometry now, so I might actually be able to tune that out of it
Damn. I just got it for the first time ever, by accident. In the second drift event. Taking out the transmission to help with acceleration just to keep up on hard was a God send.
I do believe and swear I got Magazine Cover 22 by chance. I was really good at Drifting. It was my favorite mode in this game. I could get Drift Kings somewhat regularly on a few of the tracks. Thus, I do believe that's how I got it. I didn't realize it was this hard to get.
I used to use the honda2000 for drifting and i have had drift scores for one contusion drift 300,000+ points this is still one of the best racing games of all time
I completed the game many, many times but I only got that magazine once and never again. I got it on accident during an rx7 playthrough which in hindsight makes sense considering how well that car drifts.
this actually makes it a much better achievement tbh. total score is way too easy. building a huge chain around the whole track is a perfect amount of challenge to truly feel like an actual achievement. One that lets you know, yeah, you've mastered this game. without requiring you to be a top 10% player in the world like esports. the only problem is that the requirement isn't clear. if they just clearly explained it, then it'd be perfect in every way.
Bro in this game series police crown Vic is faster than goddamn Veyron and you pointed THIS out? (Btw I'm not sure I can call it a drift, but if you put plastic covers on the rear wheels of the fwd car, the rear end of it will slide and it kinda looks like drifting.)
I actually tested this as well. But the magazine will not unlock when getting 100.000 points (drift king) in one drift as well. The similar naming to the magazine is probably just coincidence.
@@DanielCarter1615 ah fair point, so its one shot the best on a lap on hard, while keeping the combo up as long as possible over the finish line so it counts and makes it easy
Why they won't remaster these games is beyond me. The drift mechanics were amazing especially given the age of the game, you really got a sense of the car having weight and momentum, spinning the tires up and down. If I recall, there was also physics for FF, FR, FA, and I think even MR as the Toyota MR2 was in NFSU 1 and/or 2. The eclipse he's driving here is FF, fwd, which are tougher to drift since you have no power to the rear wheels. Drifting is really meant to be done with RWD or AWD, much more enjoyable experience.
They would have to license all the music again, they would have to license the cars again and the Supra would most likely NOT return, they would have find out if any of the former devs still have the source code for the game and all of this also applies to any of the other Blackbox games
This is a great video, Might I recommend increasing your pacing a little bit?? It would help to keep your engagement in videos much higher while making sure people enjoy the videos!
Our clan called GamersGeneration or GamersGen had lot of good drifters & drag racers from UG1 and UG2 whose records are still unbeaten till this day. I have to find my old racing profile rotting on some DVD i backed up in 2007 pretty sure we unlocked all achievements.
just did this with celica on event 40. usually I'm utter shit at drifting but this particular car (with possible best parts installed, no downgrades) just kept on sliding and sliding so accurately, never randomly breaking the combo and I ended up doing a 4 lap long drift. weird considering I couldn't do it with the supposed best drift cars on the final drift stage in the game
I remember that magazine that was hard to get good job yea when I was young I played that game every day I didn't like to drift back then but I started getting better and better and then I remember seeing that no. 22 magazine after I finished that drift lv back then idk it was impossible to get like wow that game brings me back young vibes
Do remember the magazine cover, so I've definitely got it at some point during my many runs of NFSU.. I also loved chaining drifts for the whole event, so that might be a reason :D
I remember unlocking these back in me PS2 days. It was quiet random, since me mates couldn't figured out how I did it. My answer is, I Don't remember it either. Till now, that is. That Lap points is fucking driven me insane!
They would have to find out if any of the former devs still have the source code for the game not to mention they would have to cut the Supra because EA lost the Toyota license and this applies to all of the Blackbox games
Afther playing nfs underground 2 and 2 fro more then like 7 years i just found out that street x reces from underground 2 look a lot like drift maps from underground 1😮
the game a a tutorial that told the player to link the complete track. if you do so you should get no points until the finish line, where they get added up. just like real life. at that poinhz you easily get that drift king title.
I just unlocked all the magazines by doing every event on Hard, I wasn't even aware they were basically achievements, I thought you just earn them at various points in the career.
I spent all my middle school years playing this game 1&2, made sure I did everything there was to do. Back then I was a completionist now not so much. 😂 still love the video though brother! ❤
Great video man, got a sub from me even if you don't make another video ever again 😂. I remember doing a "100%" run of NFSU just before starting college and i wanted to finally get that last magazine i could never get as a kid. By deduction and without guides yet, i guessed it was "Set a Drift Track record" because i had every other magazine already, but when i wasn't able to get it even on the longest track with 500.000 (N°6 i think), i started searching and........ DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING USEFUL XDDDDDDDD. Well, at least i was able to confirm that i needed the drift record one and not another unrelated thing. At that moment was when i decided to experiment on Track N°6 with doing more than 100.000 per lap in all laps and it clicked for me, maybe i needed all 500.000 in one single lap (i was thinking of 500.000 because of the drift king archivement on Carbon) but when i got over 200.000 in one lap i got the magazine, i could get a higher count but i was stupid hard drifting for more than 3 laps for me so there it was, finally a "100%" file that i still play every now and then. Sorry for all the text and i hope this video get set as a reference to those that need to get that magazine and complete the game in the future 😎
Been forever since I played but as I recall the eclipse is 4wd which can drift ok but is a bit grippy. Fwd is the worst, Rwd is best. RX-7 does great but it's heavy and hits walls more because it's bigger. The Miata is best overall but is twitchy and takes constant corrections. Set tires to stock, or just one level higher. Also best to use manual transmission and aim to stay in 2nd gear mostly. You got sick skills!
What about the one that says it's a cover for the August magazine? I don't think I've ever gotten that one, I have gotten the #22 but only by accident, never knew what the requirement was.

Loved using the rx7 for drifting in this game, made it so easy to get high scores
Taking out the transmission to help with acceleration just to keep up on hard was a God send.
damn bro been playing NFS Underground PC since 2004 that's dedication right there
I never knew it was difficult to get this magazine lol 😅 drifting was always my favorite event.
I’m glad someone talk about this finally
I do believe and swear I got Magazine Cover 22 by chance. I was really good at Drifting. It was my favorite mode in this game. I could get Drift Kings somewhat regularly on a few of the tracks. Thus, I do believe that's how I got it. I didn't realize it was this hard to get.
These are the random RUclips finds I want to see more
I used to use the honda2000 for drifting and i have had drift scores for one contusion drift 300,000+ points this is still one of the best racing games of all time
You my friend have shown ultimate dedication. You’ve earned a sub👍🏼👌🏼
Drift on manual transmission 😮 You are real underground pro Racer 😎👍
I completed the game several times and always got all the magazines. I never even knew what to do specifically to unlock them.
I completed the game many, many times but I only got that magazine once and never again. I got it on accident during an rx7 playthrough which in hindsight makes sense considering how well that car drifts.
your driving is immaculate
I never realized that mag 22 was considered difficult I had just gotten it while playing and never thought anything of it
Bro's drifting an AWD car hahaha. Love this game
this actually makes it a much better achievement tbh. total score is way too easy. building a huge chain around the whole track is a perfect amount of challenge to truly feel like an actual achievement. One that lets you know, yeah, you've mastered this game. without requiring you to be a top 10% player in the world like esports. the only problem is that the requirement isn't clear. if they just clearly explained it, then it'd be perfect in every way.
I can't imagine what it felt like to see this video get over 150k views wirh less than 1k subs. This is a very rare thing to happen.
Today I learned Magazines had actual requirements to get them.
Goddamn.
I think i might’ve unlocked this one without even realising the requirements considering i high scored on every single drift event i entered.
every time I load an old save, I scold myself for beating the game with an absolute ricemobile
Oh man this takes me back, good old days...👍
4:05 ah yes, drifting on the FWD eclipse
That's AWD
Bro in this game series police crown Vic is faster than goddamn Veyron and you pointed THIS out?
(Btw I'm not sure I can call it a drift, but if you put plastic covers on the rear wheels of the fwd car, the rear end of it will slide and it kinda looks like drifting.)
Or that bug in NFS Carbon on GC that don't give you some rims because you completed the challege series
also when drift king came up on screen might be another theory, like maybe all you need to do is drift so well that shows up on screen
@@kavinskysmith4094 Yep, sounds right
Why they won't remaster these games is beyond me.
They would have to license all the music again,
they would have to license the cars again and the Supra would most likely NOT return,
they would have find out if any of the former devs still have the source code for the game
and all of this also applies to any of the other Blackbox games
This is a great video, Might I recommend increasing your pacing a little bit?? It would help to keep your engagement in videos much higher while making sure people enjoy the videos!
yeah this video could be way shorter if he spoke a little bit faster
Just increase the video speed
English might not be the guy's first language and he might unintentionally slow down for more accurate pronunciation
Well, is magazine #28 top secret?
This. Game. Rocks
I struggled doing a full playthrough on hard, I don’t think I’ll ever try to get all the magazines, sounds absolutely painful
I think they made a mistake but also made some that had us questioning for years like an easter egg and indeed,it was.
I honestly liked Underground more than underground 2, nostalgia because for me it was the one that started it all
Miss this game so much. I always drove the eclipse too. Might have to see if I still have it.
I remember that magazine that was hard to get good job yea when I was young I played that game every day I didn't like to drift back then but I started getting better and better and then I remember seeing that no. 22 magazine after I finished that drift lv back then idk it was impossible to get like wow that game brings me back young vibes
I dumped so many hours on it and never checked what magazine 22 is and somehow got it with just a massive score drop for drifting.
Do remember the magazine cover, so I've definitely got it at some point during my many runs of NFSU.. I also loved chaining drifts for the whole event, so that might be a reason :D
Amazing video and editing style!
I already know this is a vid people will be coming back to to find out for years to come gz
What an underrated youtuber
I remember unlocking these back in me PS2 days. It was quiet random, since me mates couldn't figured out how I did it. My answer is, I Don't remember it either. Till now, that is. That Lap points is fucking driven me insane!
Awesome video! 🎉 Great drifting man 😮
Love the summoning salt rip!!! Did yall get the Torte yet??
I have such great memories of this game. It's a real shame EA hasn't remastered it.
EA would ruin the game by adding NFS Unbound's handling.
Honestly it is better for classic NFS to stay how they went back then. Or just install 4K Widescreen + ReShade mods for a "remake" experience.
They would have to find out if any of the former devs still have the source code for the game not to mention they would have to cut the Supra because EA lost the Toyota license
and this applies to all of the Blackbox games
I remember doing all magazines, but holy, that was like 15years ago...I think?
Hey, i remember this magazine. Didnt know that's a hard one.
But hey i was kind of drift nerd in nfs
I did it in Fast Race, but Career was already locked(
Afther playing nfs underground 2 and 2 fro more then like 7 years i just found out that street x reces from underground 2 look a lot like drift maps from underground 1😮
It is pretty darn hard to beat that magazine cover, Like I've beat the game 3 times on my computer and still couldn't set the highest drift record.
the game a a tutorial that told the player to link the complete track. if you do so you should get no points until the finish line, where they get added up. just like real life. at that poinhz you easily get that drift king title.
i unlocked it without knowing that it was that hard , cause most of the time i put Drift & drag in hard to get alot of points
I wish I had my old save game for underground. 😔 I used to drift the whole 4 laps for fun. I am sure this magazine was unlocked.
*having a consistent release schedule*
Damn someone remastered the fuck outta these graphics haha
I just unlocked all the magazines by doing every event on Hard, I wasn't even aware they were basically achievements, I thought you just earn them at various points in the career.
I got this mag first time. Had no idea what the challenge was. I’m just a drift king

"That's right we're gonna cheat"
I received it in that same race, but I did it with the Honda S2000 and I got 345,000 style points.
I remember doing that and had to call my friend to see just to believe me
I think devs made that mistake intentional, that's why its very hard to get Magazine 22. This is my opinion
I don't think anyone knows it heh
