Yes, that interior is so 25 years ago.. blue carpet and all "but", its in such good shape. Take it from an old guy..dont change it.. restore it. You or potential buyer will appreciate its originality 10 years from now.
At 5:03 you said you have a fill and a drain. The white cap is to fill the tank inside the motorhome. The other connection is for using a water supply hookup, so that you do not have to run the pump. The drain valve for your fresh water tank is under the couch. The switch inside the door if I remember correctly is your porch light.
We absolutely love our Chinook. You will love yours also. They are extremely reliable, with proper maintenance of coarse. Helpful hints..replace the microwave with a combo convection oven, to help keep water contained, wash your hair over the sink. If the passenger seat doesn’t swivel, get a swivel. Install a diesel heater. Happy travels.
Don't put a composting toilet in. It is not expensive to dump! Camp once a month at a campground and dump then. Save the money for the newer a/c and replace the vent fans with a max air with a cover! You can drive down the road with the vent open and get great air flow. The generator is great you will really like it. Great find
Wow! I have a 2001 Trail Lite class b+ which is an exact copycat of the Chinook. Just minor differences here and there. Its built to last too. All oak cabinets etc. I kept the dinette table but took out the jack knife couch and built a huge storage shelf 28 inches tall then put my queen size foam mattress bed on top of that which folds in half like a murphy bed to get out of the way for day use. It works great. I put 3 100 watt solar panels on the roof and use 2 AGM batteries which is plenty. I also put in 2 slide out cutting boards under the stove and sink for more counter space. I use a single propane camp stove instead of the built in burners giving me more counter space. I also put in a huge slide out drawer under the stoves where the microwave was for more kitchen storage. Pots and pans and food. I put a new microwave in the shelf above the cab. Ive been living in it for 7 years quite comfortably.
You never cease to amaze me. You have A setback you figure it out and keep on stepping. I see good things in your future. That is because if you want something you make it happen. Good for you. BTW like your hair this way. Can't wait to see your updates on your new camper.
I'm so glad you made it home safely and without any major drama like when you rode cross country with your bus a few years back. I look forward to seeing your personal touches. I know it will be amazing when you are finished, as all your work has always been. 🤩
Check subfloor for soft spots and or water damage around fridge, and under fresh wate tank areas. That’s where I found the water damage on our 1998 Concourse. Carpet looked new but wood subfloor was rotten underneath it.
Congratulations, she is a beauty. None of us want to admit when we take the RV through a low clearance area and damage the AC and/or vents. He probably didn't want to admit it.
Hi sweetie, I was so excited when you got it glad you got it home. You made an absolutely smart choice. Baby girl definitely will need on board amenities you can’t take a baby into gym for a shower. She will have space to lounge & play. The Chinook is one of my favorite rv’s. I’m so happy for you.
Regarding the chassis battery. A LiFePO4 battery charges differently than the older technologies so you may need a new converter/charger and also a DC to DC converter for the engine alternator path. Neither of those are very expensive, consult someone who can provide the right advice. LiFePO4 batteries charge at a higher current, in 1999 that wasn't a consideration. Whatever you paid, you scored a good one, the fact that you could just replace the tires and drive it back to Eugene shows how good the engine and transmission are.
Just get better replacement lead acid and consider a power station / “solar generator” if the current generator doesn’t work. You can get a Pecron E3600LPF which has a true 3600 w output even (30amp) plug. The generator is likely hard wired to a sub panel and then to the transfer switch. If you attach an 30 amp plug to the sub panel if would plug into the Pecron. Then use that for adding lithium etc. this powers the main panel. If you plug in the transfer switch activates. If it goes below temp you still have acid house batteries (emergency). But if something like the Pecron running as the “generator” it would act like the generator is running all the time. You can get alternator charger still for it. You can charge from solar and at $1300 right now. Hard to beat for something that has 3600w. Bet a generator on that model was something like the onan micro 2800.
That's a really cool find. Save some cash just to do a full service on the engine, trans and rear end diff. The engine you have has some issues but a good Ford reputable mechanic can get things good and make it a strong reliable RV We have a lifted 98 Coachmant Starflyte. Same size as yours. Same drive train. You've got a great boondocking RV
As a second-time viewer and subscriber, I think you will really like your motorhome, and I bet you can't wait to redo it. Nice size and the tried and true V-10. Please check out lithium batteries before you purchase them, I understand they are not good in the cold. Looking forward to your future videos.
As a single woman, if I wanted to travel like you and Ember will; I would definitely want a RV v. a trailer. I think you will love your new home! Looking forward to the renovations!
I'm looking forward to your upcoming renovation videos. Back in 2017 I had a 1997 Chinook Premier. I knew nothing about RVs and vans so I ended up selling it. I wish I had renovated it like you're going to do with yours, but I didn't have the knowledge, expertise or gumption to do it. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Good luck!
I have a 1986 Skamper slidin truck popup camper bought it 5yrs ago! It has never had any leaks and I’ve been living in it full time!! And it didn’t take alot of work to get out there!! Thanks for the look see!
The generator normally can fix w/new parts. There is an actual spring in the starter that gets stuck or something. 'BENDIX SPRING' easy to remove whole generator unit from van. And put back in thanks!
Love your choice!! What a great find for you and Ember to explore in’. All the great things she will get to experience and family she will get to visit and spend time with and she gets to do the same when she’s with Issac. And she has a steady home base. What a great life to give a kid! When she starts school and goes back after summer break and everyone talks about what they did, can just imagine everyone listening intently! Can’t wait to see how you add your own touch to it and to watch the first time you and Ember take off together. Till then, take care.
Great video kid this should be a good unit for you we have a 4x4 f350 v10 with 400,000 miles it works hard every day pulling a 4 ton patch trailer a couple coils and regular maintenance and 1 transmission it has been a reliable truck for regular county work have a great day be safe.
I loved watching the first walk through. About a year ago I started getting familiar with my Mom’s 97 Premier Chinook. Twins almost - same paint job. I had been smogging it every other year for Mom after my Dad passed way, and recharging batteries but it was time to find a new owner. As I was getting it ready to sell both the number of things needing fixing and my fondness for this configuration grew and I ended up putting the money into many repairs. Batteries, tires, brakes, shocks, oil change and transmission fluid, rear differential service, a leak in the sun main seal. The roof was degrading and needed to be stripped and redone, both big windowx seals leaked and needed to be removed and replaced and one part of the wall rebuilt, the fans were both shot, generator needs work. But it’s coming along well. I got it it for a good test run once the mechanical was done. Look forward to seeing more of your progress!
Chinooks are fantastic. Very solid and you are right, overbuilt (which is good!). Excellent quality back in the day is why a lot of these manufacturers went out of business. I 2nd the diesel heater, cheap and easy to install and runs on minimal house battery draw. Look forward to seeing your posts. Good luck!
Very nice unit. I had a 1980 Executive and loved all the solid hard wood. The layout on your unit is great, functions, and has a nice flow to it. Well done, Jaylena.
That can be a crazy crazy this time of year. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone from adult to Salt Lake and how many times I’ve gone from Salt Lake does the vows I’m glad you had a safe trip. Winners can be horrible. Going from Ontario Oregon to head River and sometimes even to Troutdale
Congratulations, that is a very nice mid-size RV!! Good research! Im impressed with the V10 engine, the sturdy suspension and the one piece Chinook shell. I’m helping a friend with her Winnebago Warrior project RV. Based on a Toyota truck. The interior Layout is very similar. Thanks for sharing your project!
I find your channel inspiring, I’ve want to live the van life forever and with “Life” in its self, I never could commit. The closest I’ve gotten is traveling around on my bike and popping up a tent. You’re awesome, Keep It Going!
If you plan on going below 32f then don't bother with lithium, just go gel batteries, as lithium you cant charge below 32f, the electrolyte freezes and you will drastically reduce the batteries capacity or destroy the battery. You can buy heating mats and jackets for lithium, but then you are using around 50w power (4a) just to keep the batteries warm, which is stupid.
I'm re doing a 1994 Chinook concourse. I gutted mine except for the bathroom and part of the kitchen. Slow going. I did get a weldtec grocery getter suspension lift. Love it. Great luck with your rig
I love the concept. Small enough to (barely) fit into a parking space. I'm not sure about the cost/benefit of a generator, though. Add a larger alternator and big lithium batteries and it might be good enough.
You made a great choice buying the Chinook. I bought a new 1997 Chinook Concourse and owned it for 20 years. To this day I regret selling it. Please be sure to have a competent mechanic work on the Triton V10 because engines of your 2003 vintage allegedly had a proclivity for blowing spark plugs if they were not properly torqued when installed. Fortunately it never happened to mine and I think it was mostly the fault of so called back yard mechanics improperly installing the spark plugs which had shallow threads.
You drove that many miles, it must be a dependable vehicle! I’ve got 1981 Dodge Transvan that I’m redoing too. It has really deep counters that stick out into the walking area. I’m going to take about a foot out of the depth to make it a little more spacious.I’m turning my four person dinette table and seats into a two person setup for the same reason. I’ll be following your channel. Maybe I’ll pick up on an idea or two. Best of luck to you on yours. Enjoy!
Hi .. was scrolling through RUclips and see your channel .. I love it !! I’m excited to see and watch this beautiful camper .. can’t wait to see what you will do with it .. yes, I’ll be following your channel .. Great video !!!👏🏽👏🏽
I love it Jaylena. I have friends who have them. They love theirs too. Congrats and I look forward to your update. Try to keep the blinds. You can clean easily. They stay put and completely cover without effort. And they stay put when moving.
What a wise buy! This is stunning....you can see the quality and hands down beats any new RV that looks like a space capsule. Loving the retro vibe. So excited to follow you and your reno! ❤❤🎉🎉
My AC cover blew off when I was traveling in the mountains. I didn’t even know until I got out of my van and was walking back to it and noticed it was gone. It’s def possible.
Jaylena I can’t wait for you to get started every thing that you have done in the past you work so hard and know you have a new build I can’t wait to see want you do I’m soooo happy for you thanks Issac for helping Jaylene out love 💝 from Ohio Irene and god bless
Great buy and looks in good condition. I’m a new subscriber from Gold Coast Australia 🇦🇺 we don’t have RV’s like yours mainly Isuzu, Toyota coaster Nissan Civilian buses, Winnebago’s etc. I just bought a Nissan Civillian 2000 model bus from Japan already built inside like yours and my interior is so much like yours ! That 20 year old wood cabinetry it built tough. I’m in the same predicament as u, im going to modify it but not completely gut it and use it until I wanna change and re-design in a few years. Looking forward to seeing your final design and part reno 👍
Install a diesel heater cover windows you will feel the cold I found pillows are cheap for covers the built in furnace are not efficient and create unwanted moisture. def in the winter if your water tank is not heated best to just keep water in the rig otherwise your lines and pump will freeze and may burst. bathroom just buy a sit-down toilet use bags and get a diaper genie never a smell I tried all the toilets. also, internet star link is a yes, the dish has a built-in snow heater. electronics nu wave induction cook top , Blackstone 14-inch griddle and ninja 14 in 1 air fryer
Congratulations on the Chinook ! All the things that need fixing are things you have already done in the past . You got this ! All the things you need on a daily basis are already there . Repair and replace the broken items . A little upgrading of carpet and some updating and you will be on your way by spring . Hopefully no leaks , a new fan and AC and heat and a little body work is all it needs . Good luck !!!
I love it! I bought my rv for the exact reasons as you. Bathroom. I still don’t get the folks with six figure rigs pooping in buckets and public restrooms.
I saw on an RV channel YT that different states are not registering older RV’s. I tried to find the name of the channel to research their findings. They had years listed of RV’s and year of implication of new rules on registration and regulations.
So happy for you, Jaylena, that you found exactly what you were looking for. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. You have a real knack for interior decorating.
She is right, don't compare a new Chinook RV to the older ones. Especially if you have a new model. Although the Transit chassis Bayside TB is really quite good.
Oh Jaylene, I’m so happy for you. I can’t wait to see how you make it yours all right much love from South Carolina. I can’t wait for to see what’s up next. Give ember Wilde a kiss for us.
Smart choice for your needs. I definitely see lots of potential with minimal cost. My creative ideas were generating as you gave us the tour! One idea, for example, would be to use a steam cleaner on the fabric to clean and freshen it up before simply recovering it in a fabric you love. Perhaps something southwestern? 😊
I’m so happy you got what you wanted. It looks so nice and neat to clean and yes use it does need a little work but I know if it your needs just fine. You made a great choice. Keep up the good work on your videos. God bless you and your little daughter.
Fresh Earth tone carpet and matching updated cushions. Tape everything off and coat the blue fabric trim with fabric spray paint to match. That alone would make it look 10 years newer. You can use that fabric spray paint on the window shades too. Also, Pro-Tip: You don't need to pull the jack knife bed out all the way or at all, it's good to keep that aisle clear.
I think it's pretty sweet. I have a 94 truck camper that looks as good as the day I bought her. Today's builds are junk. They are built cheap and fast and that's why I still have mine. But I wouldn't mind one of those. I like the pass-thru.
Awesome choice! I'm not in the market yet as I am still a couple of years away from retirement but you have opened my eyes to another possibility of van choice. I have liked and subscribed and will follow along with your build. Best of luck. Also, this video was relaxing to watch. Keep up the good work!
Replace your hot water heater with a tank less type I did this on my motor home and have not regretted it for a second but then I don't boondock either. I just enjoy not having to do military showers anymore.
Thank you for the clarification, I haven’t used any of those parts yet, still learning her as I go!
She wont keep it or use it....She never does! lol
Nothing wrong with it. I would use it the way it is. If she needs money she should add $5000 to it and sell it.
I think it’s beautiful as it is!
Don't put a composting toilet in. It is not expensive to dump! Camp once a month at a campground and dump then. Save the money for the newer a/c and replace the vent fans with a max air with a cover! You can drive down the road with the vent open and get great air flow. The generator is great you will really like it. Great find
I believe she already has the composting toilet

Ive been living in it for 7 years quite comfortably.
Amazing how well these older rv’s held up.
Looks like a decent RV to start your remodeling. Smart to buy new tires. I look forward to your journey.
Thanks for sharing.
It should also have a OBD port under the steering side dash for diagnosing engine trouble. Vehicles produced after 1996 have them. Nice RV. Good luck.

Very happy for you, Jaylena!🎉
This lady is smart and beautiful what a keeper.
@@chicagovasko agreed!
Regarding the chassis battery. A LiFePO4 battery charges differently than the older technologies so you may need a new converter/charger and also a DC to DC converter for the engine alternator path. Just get better replacement lead acid and consider a power station / “solar generator” if the current generator doesn’t work. You can get a Pecron E3600LPF which has a true 3600 w output even (30amp) plug. The generator is likely hard wired to a sub panel and then to the transfer switch. Good size vehicle. I hope all the repairs go well. It seems good inside. Lots of storage. Look forward to seeing how it all goes.. good luck
That's a really cool find.
Save some cash just to do a full service on the engine, trans and rear end diff. The engine you have has some issues but a good Ford reputable mechanic can get things good and make it a strong reliable RV
We have a lifted 98 Coachmant Starflyte. Same size as yours. Same drive train.
You've got a great boondocking RV
She’s a beauty. I would get brakes belts and wiring checked out before any renovations but then again I’m old.
Old and smart of course motor engine is first
As a second-time viewer and subscriber, I think you will really like your motorhome, and I bet you can't wait to redo it. Nice size and the tried and true V-10. Good info! Thanks.
Thank you so much! Hopefully it’s a simple fix!🤞
Wow, for its age, it's in really great condition! What a great buy. Thanks so much for the tour!

So happy for you. A Chinook RV costs from $40,000 (used) to $225,000!
Wow so expensive, but they do seem built to last unlike the newer models on the market. Pure junk they sell now.
Congratulations on hitting over close to 75,000. You are amazing

I added that so I’ll definitely be keeping them🤗
Cant wait to see the finished product. Good luck darling.
Always liked and been curious about the Chinook as well. Bravo to You!

Congrats! Looks like it will be perfect
What a wise buy! This is stunning....you can see the quality and hands down beats any new RV that looks like a space capsule. Loving the retro vibe.
So excited to follow you and your reno!

Love the retro also.
And thank YOU Isaac, for videography, drone footage!😊💜
Love your new RV, Jalena!! ❤️ 💙 💜
I love your new tiny home! I'm so excited to watch you fix her up. ❤

I’m in the same predicament
as u, im going to modify it but not completely gut it and use it until I wanna change and re-design in a few years.
Looking forward to seeing your final design and part reno 👍
I am in Oregon too and have a Chevy 1990 Chinook ... 16' great little rig
Cant wait for the transformation. Keep up the great content and much love to ya from Maryland❤❤❤.
yeh the 1 piece glass body is a nice feature. a whole bunch of problems vanish. and it wouldn't be much heavier than steel and cheap planks of pine
Congratulations to your RV. She looks very nice. 👍
I love this rv “Chinook” So happy and proud of you.
Such a nice option and it will be so exciting to see the renovations! Congratulations on your new home project!
Really nice, I'm so happy for you!
Looks like a great minimal project. Nice space.
So happy for you, Jaylena, that you found exactly what you were looking for. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. You have a real knack for interior decorating.
Absolutely over the moon for you Jaylena. 🙏🏻💕💕💕🙏🏻 Here comes the next chapter of your life Gorgeous Girl.
WOW....what a great RV, you'll have a lot of fun fixing it up and even more fun traveling in it!! 🥰
This is so nice. I’m truly happy for you
She is right, don't compare a new Chinook RV to the older ones.
Good choice Jaylena I can't wait to see what you do with it
Smart choice for your needs. I definitely see lots of potential with minimal cost. My creative ideas were generating as you gave us the tour! One idea, for example, would be to use a steam cleaner on the fabric to clean and freshen it up before simply recovering it in a fabric you love. Perhaps something southwestern? 😊
I love that Jaylena!!!
If I could find one like that, I'd sell my house and live on the road. I'm happy for you and Ember. God bless y'all, and Isaac.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the RV. Enjoyed watching and thanks. Hugs to Ember. Love y'all.
This looks like the perfect RV for me. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes to do to her.
Agree, the newer ones are pure junk.
Looking at older models for that reason myself.
Doesn't look that big from the outside but there's quite a bit of room inside. Nice choice!
I am glad you found your chinook. Looking forward to seeing it all fixed up and watching your adventures.
Congrats. Can't wait to see what you do with it and your travels.
I was waiting for this video! Wanted to see the chinook walkthrough and update.
Awesome choice! I'm not in the market yet as I am still a couple of years away from retirement but you have opened my eyes to another possibility of van choice. I have liked and subscribed and will follow along with your build. Best of luck. Also, this video was relaxing to watch. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! That’s so awesome!
Replace your hot water heater with a tank less type I did this on my motor home and have not regretted it for a second but then I don't boondock either. I just enjoy not having to do military showers anymore.
Chinooks are so amazing. Look at Weldtec designs for a drastic improvement to its capability and ride comfort. You’ll love your chinook
