Yesterday, during my in-work interview, they trained me for just an hour before leaving me to handle phones, emails, texts, referrals, and the whole shabang on my own. It was overwhelming, especially given my lack of experience in the dental field. I had hoped for more hands-on training over a few days, but it appeared they expected me to self-teach. 😅 When I inquired if this self-teaching approach was the norm, the doctor confirmed it. Suffice it to say, I don't plan on returning. Ugh I really wanted the job but they literally left me out to dry alone by myself in the front office.

      That’s so not fair!

Seems to be the norm sadly. I have had 20 years experience CLINICAL, and no administrative experience other than answering phones, and scheduling patients. Im starting a new front desk receptionist job tomorrow, and goes what? NO BODY there to train me! My working interview was a joke ,meaning no one there to "show me the ropes" or how I was supposed to get started..I had no clue how to even open up the software or anything. Please say a prayer for me and the poor patients!

Hi, I loved it when you said that you don't have to answer the phone because you don't know what to say. Unfortunately, from the moment I saw the doctor, I was under a lot of stress because she approached me rudely and told me to answer the phone badly. I didn't know what to say and didn't understand the dental terminology.

Just started yesterday and I’m feeling super overwhelmed the training was them explaining everything I had to do all at once they went over it a couple times and then basically kinda threw me out there I don’t have anyone watching me or with me the whole time I’m im feeling super overwhelmed I know they explained to me how to work the program but I wish they would guide me through it for the first whole week cause I feel like they expect me to know everything already just based off her going over it with me for a couple hours tomorrow they’re gonna have me checking in patients, working with the appt book and I’m still not used to their program it’s honestly feeling helpless

This happened to me but I was doing everything on my own the first day 😢 sadly, due to teaching myself on the go is not enough training for me to learn their system. Hope you do well! Good luck!

I was in an interview than they said can you come for another interview job to see how you work, and I went, all this that you mention I did in that interviewing job for 4 hours, then they call me and told me I was hired.
I never in my life worked like a receptionist so they explain to me for 40 min and then I was doing it by myself.
I didn't expect to put me in an interview job to literally work.
So soon I am go start I hope I am gonna have proper training first.

I got hired as a dental receptionist even if I didn’t have direct dental office experience. although i had transferable skills from being a senior’s home office admin assistant. they told me not to worry too much because they will train me. (i did some preparation anyways 😂)
It’s going to be my first day tomorrow! what ways can I secure my position and solidify my career as a dental receptionist newbie? also they use curve dental for their software.
