- Isaac Clarke is the first and most played character with the dead space franchise, in this video we will be looking through his beginnings, how he made it through the ranks, the connections he had made along the way, along with the events of the games.
Even before the events of Dead Space, Isaac Clarke had strong resentment for the Unitologists which was an emotion that originated from the actions of his mother who spent all of the family funds on the religion. Following the events of Dead Space, this feeling would grow from distrust into hatred. Isaac enrolled in the electrical and mechanical engineering course, joined the Merchant Marines and focused on major shipping lines. Isaac tried to find out where his father was, but he was missing for quite some time and his personal files were kept classified by EarthGov. Isaac loved Nicole deeply as it was shown by his determination to find her among the infested USG Ishimura. Isaac was also heavily distraught after finding out that Nicole committed suicide during the initial Necromorph infestation and his visions up to that point were merely hallucinations that are caused by the Markers.

Dead Space is a 2008 survival horror video game developed by EA Redwood Shores and published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Released in October 2008, the title was the first in the Dead Space franchise and drew inspiration from other works of horror, notably Resident Evil 4 and the Silent Hill series.
Set on a mining spaceship overrun by monsters called Necromorphs, the player player controls engineer Isaac Clarke from the third-person perspective as he navigates the spaceship, fights Necromorphs, and struggles with increasing psychosis. The player explores areas on the station through a chapter-based narrative, solving environmental puzzles while finding ammunition and equipment to survive. Isaac wields engineering equipment as a weapon.
Dead Space was pitched in early 2006 and fit Electronic Arts' priority of creating new intellectual properties. A prototype of the game was developed for the original Xbox console and lasted 18 months. The team aimed for realism and innovation in their design. In the pursuit of these goals, the team removed set spawn points for enemies and omitting the heads-up display in favor of presenting information in the world. Immersive and frightening sound design was a large priority during production, and the score by Jason Graves was noted by critics to successfully evoke tension and unease.
Dead Space debuted weak in sales but eventually sold over a million copies worldwide. The game was met with critical acclaim: reviewers praised its atmosphere, gameplay and sound design. It won and was nominated for multiple industry awards and has been ranked by journalists as one of the greatest video games ever made. It spawned two numbered sequels (released in 2011 and 2013), several spin-off titles, and other related media, including a comic book prequel and an animated film. A remake of Dead Space is currently in development by EA's Motive Studios.

Isaac Clarke has raw willpower, extreme calmness in intense situations, an uncanny ability to think on his feet extremely quickly and use anything in his surroundings to his advantage, and also doesn’t seem to freak out at all.

But overall stick around this man is practically full of bad ideas and is always in your pilot seat telling you this is where the fun begins.

In my eyes, Isaac isn't a hero but just an ordinary guy struggling to survive in many hellish situations while trying to cope with severe PTSD and dementia while he loses so much throughout all of it, which is why I like him as a character since he's how I imagine someone would react in real life if the Markers and Necromorphs were to exist.
@@goofnutgav In DS3 Hes already on the level of Veteran RE Characters. He doesnt faze from necromorphs anymore and pretty much lead the entire squad. At the end, his resolve to stop the Necromorphs is so strong that he doesnt mind dying or losing Elie. He has far outgrew the person who just trying to survive. If DS4 ever happens, you best bet that hes going to lead the charge againts the Moons and kill all them by reverse engineering the machine on Tau Volantis and make them crash on each other.

I appreciate the content. Isaac is one of the most traumatized character I ever seen in video game. From horror to saving the Earth he had been through a lot.

Huh, his younger years remind me of The Binding of Isaac, both characters father disappeared/surely died, and their mother went full zealot mode. And while in Binding of Isaac he was a kid who probably lost his mind as well, Clarke probably have his own mental problems,pre Ishimura, and both this and his intelligence, probably make his brain good enough for his brain to hold the blueprints to build new markers

Probably one of the most intelligent video game protagonists of all time, who also isn't a super soldier. I mean chief was smart but i highly doubt he could repair a slipspace drive or something like that.
Isaac modified and reversed engineered his mining tools throughout his journey to make them even more powerful and dangerous purely with his engineering skills, not only that but his RIG and stasis and kinesis modules aswell
They would make a hell of a team though.
Chiefs ability was mainky to fight and surpress rebel uprisings. He was always a soldier first. Everything else second. Which is his charachter. I love isaac becauses hes a Blue collar guy whos put in situations no one can imagine and survives.

Nonetheless, Isaac Clarke is both lucky and damned at the same time to have survived the encounter on Ishimura, the outbreaks of Titan Station and Lunar Colony and also the horrors hidden at the orbit and on Tau Volantis. A regular man that fought to obtain everything he worked for only to lose everything thanks to the Aegis VII Red Marker and literally the acts of the Church of Unitology or so to say the business that the DredgerCorp higher ups created after getting rid of Michael Altman... We'll see what EA Motive will retouch on the lore of Dead Space 1...
I've wondered about this in a lot of horror games. Like how do you continue life as normal knowing theres that shit out there, or Silent Hill is just some town a few hours drive away. That Ghosts, will infact, haunt you. Lol
Resi is almost realistic in that the main characters fight it for the rest of there lives. And imagine living in that world. Phew!

@@hazzar7784 Isaac is basically Like the RE characters. As you said, its not easy to live knowing shit like that is out there. Thats why after 2, he pretty much have PTSD and Minor form of dementia and cant cope with living like a normal person anymore. Ellie on the other hand cant sit still knowing it and try to stop it. It is not until 3 that he have the resolve to kill every single one of them and become one of if not the most skilled specialist on dealing with necromorphs. he pretty much take charge the entire game.

He is likely the most 'realistic' horror game protagonist. Hes either fighting, or quietly isolated going Insane.
I do think he is too lighted hearted/witty when trying to be funny though. It's been like a decade since I've played the games though.
his story is truly amazing but I really hope that EA is testing the waters to continue with remaking the trilogy to continue Isaacs story being the end goal

Yeah highly doubt that, EA is known for buying successful franchises, and then running them into the ground, they’re the reason why Dead Space’s developers “Visceral games” were shut down in the first place.

Gunner Wright did a superb job doing the performance capture/mocap/voice of him. pouring his soul into the bone and flesh of the marker killer. I'll be super happy to hear him again in DS remake.

Dead space's story itself is absolutely under appreciated in terms of how brilliant it is in terms of content.
If Isaac had it his way, he would obliterate Unitology and not blink once.

isaac is one of my favorite characters, his evolution in ds2 and ds3 was great. hope this isn't the end of his story
Unfortunately we won’t know what happened after DS3 but we are getting a remake so EA is gonna change some stuff for sure.

Motive wants to be faithful to the story, and just add things to make it more immersive than what the first game already had. Let us pray cause we won't be hearing about this remake for a good while

Yeah, I was honestly mad at Isaac more at that point since he clearly has a free head shot when Carver threw the codex to distract Danik but never took it. I mean seriously..

It is psychological basis, Carver wanted to redeem his mistakes, he noticed that Isaac had second chance and He would do everything to have second chance of saving his family

Its because of his Uni mother that he willl NEVER become a uni. Kinda Ironic, if his mother wasnt a Uni, he will become a more successful engineer and more likely to become a Uni since more higher ups are one and he never has the hatred towards them in the first place.
I really hope we get mentions of Isaac’s backstory in the Dead Space remake. Especially when it comes to unitology.

@@D1rt3nthu51ast To be fair, she was traumatized just like Issac, and instead of wanting to turn over a new leaf and hide away from the trauma, she proceeded to try and venture out and find out how to stop the marker threat. Only reason she failed in her mission was because Norton was being manipulated by the moon/marker signals to call the Unitologists to resume convergence. Also, technically it isn't her fault, it was Carver's fault for not seeing the bigger picture, instead catering to Issac's love interest.

Just got dead space 3 and it’s the first and only dead space game I’ve played and back when it first came out I had only played the first 5 minutes. I never got to the part where you became Isaac so I came here for info on this dude. It’s crazy how much effort they put into these games they’re amazing!!!

I hope that with the remake they keep any changes to the graphics, optimization, and small quality of life changes. The story is fine in 1 and 2, and with a bit of reflection I think with minor changes 3 would be more then acceptable to the fandom so they could look to making a final installment in the main story. Isaac deserves a good send off, not the mess we were left.

Also given his father's whereabouts have been documented as "Top Secret" from CEC, what are the odds that Poul Clarke ended up encountering a necromorph infestation and probably died or worse captured by the CEC to study him since he might have been affected by a Marker a fate that would follow his son years later

Yea lets just say that this man went through more shit that anyone would ever have the chance to survive is an understatement. Hes traumatized beyond the point of recovery yet by his sheer will and perseverance would sacrifice his life to save others. Sucks that ea probably will never continue this series although coming from a money milking company id rather stay that way than destroy this franchise completely. They are tho remaking the first game so lets see where that goes.

I mean if EA wasn't so greedy we would probably be at dead space 5 by now. I am happy with the games we have and ending the story here sucks because the first game felt like a total package but games 2 and 3 felt like a journey that didn't get a real ending. I mean hell, dead space 3 was supposed to get 3 expansions to the story but we only got one because it was already being developed alongside the game so it got finished before EA decided to cut off the developmemt work for ds3.
It was a lie that dead space 3 sold poorly, the truth is EA wanted to switch to a completely "games as service" based system which meant no more single player campaign focused story based games, just online only multiplayer loot box infested trash. So they set impossibly high sales requirements for dead space 3 to make sure it could never meet them to give them an excuse to say it underperformed expectations and kill the franchise. This is what actually happened and it's pathetic they couldn't grow some balls and just admit the truth and announce they wanted to make the switch to games as service so they were killing dead space 3 before the promised 2 more expansions were even started. He'll they could have just waited til the expansion content was all done then switched and everyone would have praised them for it but no they had to be super greedy pricks

This is an amazing character breakdown. Side note nicole was cuter in dead space 1 but they switched her likeness in dead space 2 my literal only gripe with the game.

I'm genuinely fascinated about the fact that everything that Isaac had been through was useless at the end. The presence of a "god" is in fact the ultimate sacrifice of hope. As the events of the eclipse in the Berserk manga, there will always be a point where your merely mortal flesh can do absolutely nothing against it.
If isaac is dead, the next dead space would probably be about leading your own armies of necromorphs to fight the other necromorphs and destroy every remaining marker

Isaac has had it the worst of any character in video games. Worse than the Doom Slayer, worse than Master Chief. The brethren moons are worse than the dark lord and gravemind combined, because they make deals, while the moons only spread their malicious infection.
