Interesting to see those Tenors. I think they're fun, and coming from a banjo background, my first acoustic was a Martin copy. I don't know if you're supposed to tune them to open G, but that's what I do. As for some of those Gibson's, a local dealer had a couple in stock. In my area there was also a luthier that made some electric Gibson style four strings. There was a small hub-ub made about them when Daryl Hall played one in a couple videos in the early/mid 1980s.
I find my best deals at Guitar Center, every morning while i have my coffee I browse their web page. The one thing I found with GC depending on local laws they can buy a guitar and it has to be held for as much as 30 days. These never make it to the web page until the police hold is lifted. I have bought a lot of guitars must be p[aid in full and just had it put away until the hold gets lifted. A lot of people won't wait so these usually sit for the time alloted. I have one right now sitting at GC that I can't pick up until Mar 11th. I have to admit I haven't bought a Gibson in years. My first collection hit 150, 102 were Gibsons, several early 50s LPs, several 59s because that was the year I was born. The rest 60 thru the 80s LPs, Vs, Explorers and other non LP models that were not that popular. I sold that collection off just before the vintage Gibson prices really skyrocketed. I still made abig profit but not as much if I waited a couple more years. My best deal for a Gibson at GC and the only one I own now is a 90s Explorer with the worn satin finish. I went to GC because the had a real Gibson Goth LP for only $599.99 pre owned in excellent condition. Unfortunately it was gone. I know pretty much every one in the local guitars shops and the guitar manager said try this I know you like the odd shaped guitars. He pulled an Explorer off the wall and handed it to me. I tried it and it was very good. I handed it back to him and said I wasn't up paying big money. He leaned over the counter and said because the store was moving it was on a managers special $495.00 with the hard shell case! I couldn't open my wallet fast enough. My new collection is somewhere close to 200 guitars and a very eclectic collection with a few custom made guitars a few rare builds buy a few boutique brands. Can't wait to see the review of the Gibson you just got.
Guitar Center has the ABSOLUTE WORST used guitar listings. They need to fire some of their store staff that just sit around and replace them with people who can take at least 10 quality photos of the used guitar or equipment along with proper descriptions of the condition and specs. They would boost their used gear sales by 300%. Its one of the reasons they are in constant bankruptcy. Management is too stupid to take advantage of the used e-commerce market.
Kind of sorry to hear that you're not a fan of the ES-Les Paul. After some years of looking around for one which had a 60's slimline neck, I picked one up on Reverb and I can't stop playing it. I love the tone and how the guitar rings as I play it, plus as you note, the weight reduction is very welcome. To each their own.
I assume this was a little while back, but did you see the showcase edition es 335, it has not for resale stamped on the back of the headstock, what can you tell us about that?
The natural top LP does look like a Raw Power model. I've seen them with different pickups: covered HB, uncovered HB and EMGs. No idea whether any were original or later swaps.
If you want an 80’s Les Paul like the Studio Custom, look for a Heritage H140. Mostly Cherry Sunburst or Tobacco Sunburst. Bound bodies, but dot inlay, unbounded necks.
i recently got a 68 sg special in what i would say is good to fair condition for 2700 from guitar center ( mostly original , added brass nut , trem removed and replaced with a leo quan wrap , and shakier tuning heads , all likely done in the 70s), do you think i overpaid ? regardless of all that i’ll be playing it a lot cause all the electronic are original :)
It's sad that as big as guitar center is, they have a horrible used department online. They would sell a lot more used inventory online if they just tried a little harder or at all. I've backed away from a few guitars because of one crappy tiny pic, and the description: comes with case" nothing else...😂
hi how are you? i have a question? I found a 1993 gibson lespaul 1960 model translucent color. In great shape.they wanted 3000.00 i got them down to 2600.00 with shipping no tax is that a fair price ? Ty Mark
My ‘91 Firebird was trash. The cover for the bridge pickup came off sitting in the case, then sunk-into the body cavity. I took a chance on a Les Paul a few years ago, and it wouldn’t stay in tune. I play Fenders now.
Why would you sell a mod shop guitar you bought for $3k to Guitar Center? You needed $1,200 to $1,500 immediately and you had nothing else you could sell? Guitar Center has to be the worst place to go to sell a guitar in terms of getting a good price.
I wondered the same. My guess is someone wanting a quick sale but doesn't want hassle and potentially dealing with scammers or resellers giving low offers etc.
There's definitely a lot of lowballers and those seeking trades in the used guitar market...I heard of a guy who tried to sell a Les Paul and somebody tried to trade him a remote control car plus some cash...he obviously turned it down.
Oh Trogly’s daughter doesn’t realize how lucky she is. If you go for a vintage Tenor, here’s my 2 cents. Octave Mandolin tuning is the coolest. Even if you want her to learn on guitar tuning .. EADG, eventually try GDAE. It’s almost the full range of a guitar and it sounds so cool !
I've bought two used guitars at GC so far and neither was as described. Expect at least one grade lower. If it says "good", it's "poor". If it's "fair", it's trash.
personally i dont find any of those guitars you showed priced fairly for used guitars at all. buy your daughter a squire 50s classic vibe for 400 bucks play great slim neck easy for her to learn on.
Okay, the photos are bad. Like, 4 GC stores in my area, could they hire a photog. to travel between them, with lighting and pro camera. I won't buy unless I can see neck, frets, headsck. I guess they don't have a problem with it, but jeez, lost my business. Can't wait for your ES thing, finally get to see it. haha Ü ♫
I'm amazed at the truly poor presentation of Guitar Centers used section and web page as well. I can barely navigate the sight. One terrible picture of a guitar that's $4K,no comprehensive description etc. their management is terrible. Just my opinion.
Hey Trogly! G’day from Australia. The 1984 les Paul standard in this video, the one with the light fretboard is 10 guitars off my 1984 les paul standard gold top same serial number and the last 3 digits are 555! I laughed! Great show I tune in every night!
How long do we have to wait for that blacked out "Trini Lopez" ES-335 review? I have always loved them since I found out the Trini was Dave Grohl's base for his signature DG-335 which I can only dream of owning!
Good luck if you have anything shipped. Just had 2 mesa tremoverbs destroyed in shipping. Apparently a little bubble wrap isn't enough to protect a 100lbs amp.
@@Trog just messing brother, while you annoy me sometimes with your playing ignorance I definitely respect both you and what you do. Keep it up big dog
trogley! love all your videos. i watch em everynight.......i am curious|||||| WHY do you always show a simliar guitar that you do or have owned? it seems kinda like bragging to constantly reference something simliar on EVERY video..jmo...toodles!
Question, why does Guitar Center always have awful photos?
Maybe server space issues, but more likely they want the NEW guitars to be more appealing. 🤷♂️
@@joermnyc good point. It just always feels like the photos are taken so far away.
The answer to this is because they’d rather sell the guitar in-store than ship it.
And very limited descriptions.
Ass
Duuuude! As an LP Expert you should buy and test a Yamaha SBG 3000, frequently called the Les Paul killer!
I have been asking off n on for the same thing. I am into the neck thru Yamaha stuff myself
Is that not a job for a Yamaha expert?
Probably a much better guitar but unfortunately it’s worthless
I am no Yamaha guy but when I google it, they cost more than LPs. In order to be a LP killer they would need to be better and cheaper.
barf

Guitar Center would rather NOT make a sale than pay reverb fees. That's why they won't list there.

I wonder why so many high end used Gibsons go to guitar center ?
The sellers obviously lose alot of money.
The natural top LP does look like a Raw Power model. I've seen them with different pickups: covered HB, uncovered HB and EMGs. No idea whether any were original or later swaps.
2 of mine came from guitar center online. They certainly don't put any love into them before shipping.
Would Disco Stu approve of Cosmic Stew?
Disco Stu- getting on the Trog show
😂😂
I’m thinking Disco Stu would declare it “bitchin!”.
Yeah but he tried to hit on Marge at the ski lodge that time… 😮
Who does cosmic stew? I mean is there just one artist at Gibson who does it?

They marked the LP studio up to $2700 after your show

2 Gorgeous Gibson Les Paul Artisans with 3 pickups. A few signature guitars from Jimmy Page, Rick Nielsen, Angus, Alex Lifeson....
Have you ever reviewed a Les Paul studio lite from late 90s. Had a great blue and bright red finish.

I live nearby the guitar center of Spartanburg and I saw the silverburst that was khalered.
Poor guitar man.
There’s a black mirror v at my local guitar center for 2499$
I think guitar center and NASA use the same photograph equipment 😮

I was wondering the same. That must've sucked really bad for the person selling it.

What just happened.
Thank you

That amp weighs 100lb?! Holy smokes. And here I thought my Peavey 6505+ 112 Combo was heavy lol (about 70 lbs).
Heritage focused.
Some Gibson
Are you in the eclipse path in April Trogly?
How do everyone!!
I will tell you that Cosmic Stew is done by any run of the mill street artist with spray cans. 😂
