    A very good chance to do a 'What Makes Chibson a Fake Gibson Les Paul' series. I know from the late 70s and 80s it was fairly easy to tell with the truss rod and the control cavities but now some of these companies are getting really good.

      You can still judge by the truss rod cavities in 100% cases, they're still using Allen keys. They also don't stamps their serials and never uses nitro. Still easy nowadays.

    Sad thing is that some of the Chibson quality is so much better than some newer Gibsons. I myself despite having a few Gibson products including an 89 MIII and A 2009 Gary Moore BFG am more of a Jackson or Charvel man.

      Technically you can say Gibson has fit-n-finish problems. overall quality can refer to the woods and materials and electronics..ect that are used. it also lends to build techniques. much of your build cost is in time. in business you have two things to work with: time & space. but I know what you're saying, I like modern Epiphones. some copies are getting that good.

Needless to say, I made the time to find them. It is an older house on a corner, and nicer people you could not find. I bought a Custom Shop L.P. Bantam Elite in Ruby from them, and others, plus a Nighthawk Custom in Natural, which was amazing. Bought many others over the years. as well as Fenders there. It is worth the trip and their prices are fair. Two Thumbs up for Trogly and Elderly.

    My "Chibson," story:
    Back in 2016 I bought one for sh!ts and grins, I have several REAL GIBSON LPs, some of which I modded with TonePro hardware and BKP pickups. I had also aquired an Epiphone double neck (which i modded as well). Now enters the Chibson-
    I used the hardware I removed from the Epiphone (except the tuners, I used real Gibson) I did the 50's wiring with paper in oil caps, and put in a pair of Seymour Duncan Whole lotta Humbucker, i had laying around. I loaned this modded Chibson to a friend who has a guitar collection as well. Months later, I went to his house and jammed on the Chibson. First he let me play his Ibanez loaded with BKP Blackhawk pups. I played it for bout 30 minutes and my ear adapted to that tome. THEN I picked up the Chibson just to see the difference.... much to everyone in the room's amazement.... The chibson with Seymour Duncan's ACTUALLY sounded fuller and had more presence than the Ibanez with the Bare Knuckles. Believe it or not.

    3:30 as a woodworker, I can't help but be impressed with the sanding finishing job, That is a lot of exposed end grain, to sand down end grain to make it look smooth and nice takes a lot of work, even if they are machine sanding. 8:30 I never understood that, if they would just stop trying to copy everyone and just let their cheaper guitars and other products be what they are, they would probably sell a lot more products. just the fact that they steal someone else's name and stamp it Made in the USA or anywhere other than, Made in China! is a total insult and puts them on the blacklist.

I should have investigated the details of chibson to find their superiority to gibson is in the customization aspect. Want a SG _Diablo_ body with a left-handed Tony Iommi signature fretboard on a right handed guitar (so the crosses are upside down)? Gibson would just tell you "not only no, but HELL NO" or "That'll be 10 grand!" Chibson says "okie dokie, we charge you extra fifty for customization, so $300!"

    Trog learns what those of us who collect/ trade/and sell watches learned years ago: Pieces that were intant-tell fakes five years ago before can become easily casual-inspection-proof, and with a few genuine parts, the main differences invlolve trademark violations, not functionality. Also, I would bet that's a real inlay--the Chinese have CNC machines and gluing in a premade inlay (probably mass produced for cheap "expensive-looking" furniture) is easy. Scary, but collectors are just going to have to become more educated to avoid getting ripped off.

    I've purchased LP style guitars without gibson branding on them. You have to be _VERY_ specific with what you want, and confirm more than once. They'll usually show you a picture of the guitar before it ships and you can double check your specs then.

    • @snap-off5383

      DH Gate, Ali Express, Ebay. Good that's what you want because they come as "wall art". If you want playability you have to finish the fretwork and set it up. If you want good sound you have to replace the pickups and pots, again they're there for LOOKS, they're basically microphones, you can talk into them and hear yourself in the amp. If you want it to stay in tune you have to change the "grover" (also counterfeit) tuners. Do all that and you've got a functionally equivalent Gibson (its actually a CNC printout of an Epiphone file) product for THOUSANDS less $.

      @snap-off5383 2 года назад +1

      . . . and you'll get it about 50% of the time. . . the other 50% they'll send you a "Gibson" headstock anyway.

    I have to be honest…a guitar player friend of mine bought two Chibsons, a fake Les Paul and a fake 335. He replaced the pickups and bridges (maybe tuning keys, too-not sure) and had them set-up by a professional tech…and while the Paul was just ok, the 335 was incredible! Tone for days and a killer neck/feel. I guess, the point being, you CAN occasional get a Diamond in the rough.

      The reality is, for most guitar brands, there will be amazing examples, and awful examples.
      And, because electric guitars are simple instruments, after a professional set up most are going to be at least good, if not great instruments.

    I have a Chibson that is masquerading as a Deluxe in Trans Black. I bought it for £200 knowing what it was, as I was interested to see one. At first glance it looks really nice hanging on the wall, but there are so many indicators that its not a genuine Gibson. Even mother nature didn't like the thing, as an inexplicable event happened where something fell and hit it, leaving a dent in the body. I gave it to my local guitar doc to appraise, and his only comment was "I've seen worse necks", which made me laugh.
