- In today's video I will be teaching you how to makeover a jewelry box! I found this on Facebook Marketplace and it needed some love and attention. I went for a more artistic look on this piece. This textured & layered look is inspired by @Kacha ! If you aren't following her, you need to change that! She is one of my favorite artists and her work always inspires me.
I used Dixie Belle Slick Stick, their chalk paint in Cotton & Sea Glass, as well as their Easy Peasy Spray Wax!
I am very happy with the result and I hope you like it too! Make sure to stick around until the end for the bloopers! There are some really funny ones if I do say so myself.
If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up, and if you didn't give it a thumbs down! Thanks for watching!
xoxo,
Holly

This came out so beautiful! I’m glad you stepped out of your comfort zone, it’s allows so much growth. You did a great job and thank you so much for the love! The fly at the end was pretty hilarious too! ❤️❤️❤️
That means the world coming from you Kacha. Thank you so much for inspiring me and for watching this video!
This is your video, this is your art, you do what leads you. Don’t worry about the comments of the “unhappy ones” Misery loves company. Great work and I liked the color!
Thank you for your kindness. It's more meaningful than you know.
Those color combination with the pouncing brush sounds and peaceful look at the end product are so engrossing. Makes all that cardboard chipping away worth it. Bees be darned. Thank you for making my day fun . Cackling at end with you to tinkling piano.
Thank you so much Nancy. I so appreciate your words
Nice!
The ending bloopers, the bug part! omg funny 😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha I'm glad you enjoyed that! That bee came out of nowhere and seriously scared me so bad! But I'm glad I got it on film so you could enjoy it lol
I ❤️ this! I know what to do with my Mother’s old jewelry box. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! That sounds just lovely. Let me know how it goes.
I NEED some of those little containers! They are perfect size. Love this tutorial❤️❤️
Yes--you absolutely do! They make it so much easier! If my memory is correct, I believe I got them at the dollar store and they came in a 10 pack! I also put paint and top coat in them for my clients to take home if they ever need to touch up the paint on their pieces.
Thank you so much!
All your hard work on prep was sooo worth it in the end. What a gorgeous makeover! Sometimes these small projects are even more satisfying than the big ones because you can put these somewhere to see it all the time. Love the paper you chose. Perfect match!
Thank you so much! I totally agree--they're more special :)
I have been holding on to a jewelry box like this wondering how to make it over! So glad this popped up! TFS!!!
I love to hear that! Thank you for watching :)
So pretty! Love the paper on the interior.
Thank you so much! :)
a goddess, a queen, a revolutionary. turned out amazing !!
Thank you so much, Emma
Isn't it interesting how we all love that distressed look. It brings comfort 2 the piece. I do leather work, and making it look naturally worn-out, rather than man-made is an art within itself.
ooooh i love that! that is such a cool line of work. i bet you do a beautiful job. thank you for the nice comment :)
It's cute. Good for you, trying something new!
Thank you so much! :)
This is so cool. It turned out really nice! I actually made over my jewelry armoire so I got the idea to start making over small jewelry boxes like the one you demo'd. I went thrifting and found 8 jewelry boxes in one day. So far I have bought more chalk paint colors, stickers, more polyeurythane and gold leaf wax. I can't wait to get started!
I love the decorative paper you added to the inside.
I have the same jewelry box and some similar chalk paint colour! Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh yay, I love to hear that! Let me know how it goes!
Girl! This piece is lovely. I love the paper you used inside the jewelry box. Way to go!👍🥰
Thank you so much, Teresa!
So so so beautiful!!!! You always do such a great job I love watching your videos! 🤍
Thank you, Emma
That is so cute!
Thank you so very much! :)
I have the same jewelry box that my sister bought me in the 90’s.
Awe, this turned out beautiful! I love it!!
Thank you so much! :)
Watching you do this while I also makeover a jewelry box lol. Great job!
Aw, I love that so much! 😊
Wow you worked so hard on it and it looks amazing, love the inside and love the finish
Thank you so much, Meg--that means a lot
LOVE how it turned out!! The wallpaper is gorgeous with that color! And omg the bug attack at the end hahaha
Side note: I love that crackle finish on your vanity!
Thank you so much!
@@ChicAntiquebyHolly You could always recreate the crackle with a different color paint. I think dixie belle has a crackle finish product and i know that if you use shellac under milk paint it crackles!
I love how this turned out!
Thank you!
I absolutely love this!!! I have a curio cabinet that’s very similar to this piece, it’s a small cabinet, about 18” high… I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but your wonderfully detailed video has inspired me! I think it turned out amazing, just hope I can make it look as good as yours do!
You are so sweet! Thank you! Let me know how your project goes :)
@@ChicAntiquebyHolly it’s true, you and Kacha are my favorite! Thank you, I will continue binging on your videos. 😁
Great work. Its really pretty.
This is a beautiful project. We stayed in a beach house in surf side once that used a similar color in their decor It was very relaxing. Id say you captured the sand and sea vibe. Its beautiful.
Thank you very much :)
I love this makeover! It looks great! Thanks for a great video.
Thank you so much ❤
When you got down as far as the cardboard I kept thinking of how to get wallpaper off walls and if it wouldn't just be easier to score and damp the card to get it off that way. You put in so much work. Well done. It looks far better.
Thank you so much!
Loooove it!
Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh that blooper with the bug! Hahah best part. Also I love the jewelry box
Yes--that bee came out of nowhere!!! So funny.
Glad you like it!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Great job ❤️
Thank you!
This turned out really pretty, though I would have liked to see the bottom of the box recreated for rings and small pieces.
Thanks!
Hi found this a few weeks late! I love giving these old vintage girls a new life. When I remove the lining and the cardboard is stuck, I spritz some water and soak the cardboard and lit it sit about five minutes. Then I come back with my scraper and a lot of the stuff comes off. Usually all you need to do is sand down the residue..
Thanks for the tip, but I did try that and it didn't work for me.
I really like the inside. I have a box that is much more complex than this one that my Dad gave me when I was very young. It has the same felt interior and the same mold. I am not sure what to do about the mold and have been looking for ideas. I think that I might have to gut it..but my issues is that mine also has moldy felt lined drawers as well as the interior with that gold hanging piece and a flip top lid where the moldy ring holders are.
Thank you! If it were me, I would gut the whole thing. You can always use felt or another soft material to re-line the drawers, or the other areas if you wish. You really don't want to mess with mold. It's not good for your health, so it's always best to remove it and start from scratch.
@@ChicAntiquebyHolly Thanks for your input! I probably will end up doing that. I have some really old stuff in it right now and am not actively using it for jewelry. I think that I can probably fine the lining felt somewhere online. It will be a large project, though, because it's a big box.
This is very cute. I wish you had filled in those tiny cracks with wood putty. Gives a little more high end look. But very nice
I like the grunge look you did. Did you ever refelt the inside?
This look was definitely girly and beachy. I'm not sure what you mean by grunge. No, I didn't---That's why I put the paper in there 😊
@@ChicAntiquebyHolly I’m sorry I meant texture, not grunge 😑 And yes girly and beachy for sure 😍
Do you plan to replace the ring rolls?
Nope!
So there's no more ring holder?
Correct
They use to make things to last a long time..Not now!
Absolutely, but this is an older jewelry box---Definitely vintage. And it's real wood, which is the most important part for me!
You seem to put your primer on thick.
I would have to disagree! My clients greatly appreciate my attention to detail :)
A steamer would’ve got that out quicker
Nice work
thanks!
it looked better before
Why would anyone want to make something look old/worn down on purpose 😂
painting and distressing made it look newer than how it started so agree to disagree! everyone likes different things.
Don't care for the gloppy thick paint technique or the painted hardware.
But then, shabby chic is just not for me.
Great idea to refinish one of these though.
You are completely entitled to your own opinion, but if you don't like something, you don't need to tell me. :)
Thanks for watching anyway!
Relooking de très mauvais goût. Le petit meuble a perdu tout son cachet. Il y avait moyen d'en faire un petit bijou. Raté.
What is the point of being so mean? If you didn’t like the final product that’s fine, but if your just gonna be a bully then keep it to yourself. No one needs your negative energy. F*** off.
A la chinga contigo

I don't like your attitude she did her best
Literally there was no point in putting in the time to come comment and be mean.
