- This week we take an old Antique Dresser that was destined for the trash and give it a fresh and modern furniture makeover! By bringing out the beautiful woodgrain with a splash of color (Paint Bleach) and adding a stencil this dresser completely transformed into a beauty matching almost any home. I just completed my very first piece, it took me ages because I am disabled and can not move very well or walk but I found a way, bit by bit in 20 min sessions over 3 weeks total. As I was cleaning, I heard your voice, "Clean your piece, just do it" as I painted I heard your voice "If you make a mistake it's ok, it's only paint. Have fun with it, take your time, enjoy the process."
Katcha, you have been my inspiration, the past several years have been very hard, I have endured loss of my brother, step father and nephew in a one month time frame last year. I have suffered the loss of my mobility and ability to care for myself as an able bodied person due to a degenerative neurological disorder that has taken so much from me over the past 6 years. Now I have found hope and happiness in painting, because of you. Painting has become my therapy both physical and mental, because I found you. Painting is my happy place because you showed me the joy in your laughter and love for what you do. This is beautiful. I love the contrast of the ornate handles and key holes with the modern wash and stencil. I also love the color you used on the drawers. It provides a nice contrast to the neutral finish on the outside. Another gorgeous original.🌸

WOW!!!! What a beautiful piece.
You made it more beautiful than it was originally designed. Notice the joinery. Around 1870, American ingenuity developed the “pin and cove” or round style dovetail, often seen on late Victorian and Eastlake furniture. These were cut with a jig or pattern, and an apprentice could create a very well fitting and attractive joint. Popular here into the 1890’s, these joints never gained acceptance outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Dear Kacha, can you please do a video on how to choose the color to paint furniture? I never can decide if I want bold or neutral. I don't want it to get tired too fast with trendy stencils and colors, but I also LOVE the bright colors and floral appliques. How do you know how to choose your colors?
