Besides adding "something special" with the legs, he also added height to the item. I imagine when it was made, most people were shorter. Now the drawers and doors are more accessible.

I just watched a video where someone rescued a sick, ugly, bedraggled, stray cat, nursed it back to health, and it completely transformed into a gorgeous, happy, fluffy, healthy cat with a whole new life. I got the same feeling of satisfaction watching both videos. Thanks for rescuing this beautiful piece.

    My first time here....
I cannot believe how many new techniques I've learned in 15 minutes!!
How to attach legs....from another piece.
How to rip down the top from another piece,
How to use the offcut from another piece as an upstand,
    How to attach the upstand,
Using a pizza sock instead of a cloth....
    I'm thrilled!!

Since that was solid wood, it was around for a long time with many owners over the years. We don’t see solid wood furniture very often anymore. Clever of you to spot it under all that paint. Most people do not have the knowledge, skill or materials to refinish furniture properly, so the simplest approach is to paint it. Easy to scoff at them, but paint is comparatively inexpensive and easy to apply. Well done to restore that piece to its natural beauty.

  • @catherinetetrault4789

Everything you restore turns out so beautifully. I love watching artisans work, whether it be wood working, sewing, tailoring, shoe making. It takes such skill to work with your hands and create something. It really is amazing to see the process of nothing becoming something beautiful and useful, especially when it's done by hand.
I want to learn to sew but it's so daunting to try something new. Thank you for sharing your work with us. The fact that even you are still learning, even though you have so much knowledge already makes me feel less scared to try. It just shows that we never stop learning.
