My grandparents had a jelly cupboard,, that is what they called it. After they passed my uncle took it and put in his barn to store cans of paint. He would wipe the paint off from the brush on the sides. It was a mess. After my aunt and uncle passed my dad took it and had it restored. Now my daughter and son in law have it. Makes me so happy. Someday it will go to one of their daughters. It takes love to keep family treasures. I admire what you did to the closet.
When my dad was young, his parents had a pie safe in their kitchen. As the children grew older and moved away, it was no longer needed and went to "live" in an outbuilding on their farm for the next fifty or so years. Then my dad took it home and rebuilt it (including punching the tin for the doors) and it lived in my mom's kitchen. Now it lives in mine.

To be honest, most people basically throw away hundreds of dollars. In the right hands, things like this cabinet or a vacuum cleaner don’t need to be trashed. In the right hands trash can be turned into profit.
🤯😁 I wouldn't have thought it was possible to save this item that anyone else would have thrown out but this cabinet was lucky to be restored by your very talented hands! 👏

The patina of the many coloured layers of paint was unbelievably beautiful . If it was just made structurally secure and the patina was left I would have paid a pretty penny for such a unique and artistic piece.

The piece. "in the rough" was incredibly beautiful. Had the joints been tightened up some and just the loose paint been dusted off and sealed with a thin flat transparent finish, you would have preserved the beauty. The manner in which you did it makes it look like something a teenager built in a high school shop class. 50 years ago I would have done the same thing. Now I appreciate the patina.
It always amazes me how resilient wood can be. It’s a wonderful material: so much better than plastic or artificial veneer. Also I respect the knowledge and patience it takes to refinish a piece like this. Wish I could it with my coffee table. Great to watch.
