Beautiful watch in SS. Yes Rolex hold there money but you try to buy one for list from an AD. Movement in the Omega is miles ahead of the Subs movement.
Its really hard to improve on design perfection of the 300m - its likely to retain its value very well. I am not sure its improved aesthetically as the previous version is truly gorgeous - but the new piece is a true stunner very well done and a technological advancement. I would like to own it. Fantastic to see all of them compared. Great informative program very well done.
Saw the silver dial today at my AD, and it is actually quite mesmerizing. Compared to the 41mm version, it doesn't FEEL any bigger, unless you compare them side by side. Good movement, looks smart, not too expensive. I actually think Omega did a good job updating it and making it feel a bit more modern.
I personally like the previous version. I like the plain black or blue dial colour, the applied logo, the smaller escapement valve knob, and most importantly the thickness, or lack there of I’d say.. Regardless, Lovely watch this new SMPc! That see through case back is really nice, and that movement is fantastic too! Will perhaps wait for a chrono, or GMT variant 😃
Think this latest version is a bit of a miss on size and design. Clasp and movement are good. That date wheel looks great if you don’t want to know what the date is.
Wow finally, you are the first Watch channel on RUclips to have laid your hands on this timepiece for an in-depth review. There was one crucial measurement you failed to mention is the lug-to-lug height or the cases wing-span. Did it feel the new case had a longer lug-to-lug height compared to the now old SMPc?
Big oversight by reviewer. To me the concern is not only the slight increase in size of the dial, but a 3mm increase lug to lug. Now 50mm. Will look odd on smaller wrists. Previously 47mm.
Only good thing about this new model is the micro adjustable clasp as standard, old one looks so much nicer. Why make the helium valve bigger when virtually no-one ever uses them. Much prefer date at 3 o'clock and old date is easier to read....
3 main mistakes done by Omega: A) the case size should have stayed at 41 or less. B) toothp-cap helium escape valve looks sooo ugly C) The position overlaps with Planet Ocean's pricing. Should have keep the price low (i.e. no in-house) Other than the above, great watch
Mandini Gunasekara I totally agree with the depth difference. But Seamaster Diver ceramic used to be a cash cow for the brand, offering a massive value at a reasonable price. Now apart from only couple of k from PO, it will confuse the customer. Losing another point to Rolex again. Shame on Omega's management
I don't know about your local price, but here in Australia, this retails for about $2000 AUD less than the Planet Ocean. I think at around 75% of the Planet Ocean price, it is still good value for money.
Great thorough review! It has been a while since owning a Seamaster and didn't have a 300M on my radar for years. This 2018 edition has my attention: I am hooked on how the modern shapes ( bracelet) and materials (ceramic) were blended with classic design (case, wave dial). The master chronometer is a real improvement and a stunner to look at. Wish the the power reserve was a bit longer than 55 hrs. The price is competitive in my opinion.
Everyone saying the price increase is money grabbing and the watch is the same seem to be overlooking the fact that the movement has been significantly upgraded and the price increase seen by other brands with legitimately no upgrades is magnitudes greater.
Reading the comments below, some thoughts. Is anyone going to really notice the 1mm larger case? It was done because its a new caliber that added features like an increase of 7 hours reserve to 55 hours, for me that is huge. I think it has better materials like the silicon mainspring, tighter tolerances, I think its standard to a higher Cosc. Versus the plain dial the laser etched ceramic dial, ceramic and enamel bezel and blued hands and dial printing and matching date coloring integrates the design language and style better than the older model. The only thing that I don't understand is the display case back since most of the moving parts are hidden anyway by the rotor and other non see thru parts. I liked the beautiful solid case back which I think made for a slimmer profile. Finally, adding all these features justifies the higher list price. I buy around Black Friday so I will be hoping I won't have to pay the total cost of the new MSRP.
Bought the blue dial with steel bracelet two weeks ago. It’s gorgeous on the wrist. I don’t understand all the hate this watch receives on RUclips reviews. The movement upgrade and adjustable bracelet redesign alone are worth far more than the very modest price increase of a few hundred bucks. Spew your venom as you will, but once you see it on your wrist at an AD (especially the blue dial) many haters will want one.
Having a 8" wrist love the 42mm size. Love the whole revamp and the clear back. I 100% sold on getting one, just can't decide on color. Have it narrowed to all black, blue/gray, or white? 🤔🤔🤔
I went with black on bracelet and ordered the rubber strap separately. Thinking of buying the silver dial on blue rubber and selling both my Oris Aquis.
the only thing i like about the new one is the movement. the bracelet is ugly. the casing is ugly.too thick from the side. exhibition caseback is nice but i prefer the legendary seamaster engraving. i think im going to stick with the old one.
We will see if the new movement is as good as the previous ETA (co-axial modification) one over time. I own the previous model and it is one of the most precise movements I own. Moreover, I am happy they changed the shape of the helium valve, as the value of the previous models will rise :-). I really dislike the new valve, no idea why they changed it. The size of the watch should have been kept as it has been. Other than that, I think that seamaster 300 is an underrated piece compared to rolex submariner. Not much difference, half the price. I think seamaster 300 deserves a higher value. I prefer it to omega planet ocean as it is one of a few outstanding diver watches out there.
My 1990's bond version doesn't just tell time. It tells the history and directs the future of Seamaster. It is worth more than these new versions in my opinion.Love my Omega!
I have 4 seamasters. The original 2531 up to the last gloss dial ceramic. Not a fan of the laser etched waves, peanut butter cup HE valve, bracelet, and the new thickness. Still a great watch and the METAS movement is an improvement.
Thank you for the review. Lots of people prefer the old ones. I like the design of the past better BUT never seen an omega with such value/features for the price...same movement in another omega watch will cost 30 percent more....I have to decide between the blue and black and I am surprisingly finding the black and gold irresistible despite price hike...is there any chance to put a waterproof leather strap like the speed master ones or simply a beautiful croco!!!! I don’t like metal bracelet and rubber one...thank you in advance for help
The one on the right with gold and black is literally my dream watch. Everything about it is perfect for me but it’ll take me a couple of years to save up for it. I currently have a Tissot seastar but this is just something else!
You will get your dream watch! I recently acquired a Breguet Type XX, which I have wanted for a very long time. Do not get distracted by other more easily accessible pieces until you get EXACTLY what you want, it will be vastly more rewarding in the end. Thanks for the comment and support!
Looks great. The ceramic thumbprint dial looks ok. Very striking. The things I don't like is the lack of applied Omega logo on the dial and the ugly conical helium valve. Oh and the white numerals on the bezel makes it look cheap. They could've gone for liquidmetal numbers but they probably wanted to keep costs low for the Diver 300m.
Sorry but the previous model was way nicer. Gone is the wonderful caseback engraving. There’s no need for a display back on a divers watch. The new waves look horrible how they end before the edge of the dial. There’s way too many colour variations. Makes this watch look like a cheap fashion watch. The size increase to 42mm is egregious. All Omega needed to do was slap in the new 8800 movement and call it a day. The older version of the Seamaster was nearly perfect.
Hi fellow horologists, the review on this 2018 SMP 300 is fine, it would have been better if you made a comparison, side by side with the SMP 300 with calibre 2500. Blue on blue, black on black, get it? That would be a clearer picture. For me Omega cheapens this iconic watch with too many variants, it's obvious they are going for the bucks with this marketing strategy. The price increase..phooey! Less is more. I own the SMP 300 blue dial, 41mm, ceramic bezel, powered by the calibre 2500, it's a great timepiece, love the clean dial and the applied indices and logo. The wave dial at the back is right where it belongs. With regard to your comment about the loose bezel and not-so-good-to-hear clicking sound, its a dive watch not a music instrument, don't fuss about it. I also upgraded the clasp with the micro adjustment for less than $100, it's perfect! FYI, I am an occasional diver, and my SMP 300 is ready and sturdy as ever! With the 2018 upgrades on this watch, the assorted color n wave dials, rose gold bezel, exhibition caseback etc..these are immaterial when you're down in the deep blue sea, and that's my opinion, peace and plunge for pearls!
I'm probably biased because I've got the older one but I prefer it, the wave pattern on face and the white numbers on bezel cheapen the look of the new model
The only improvement that I personally can see to the dial is the placement of the date, the shade of blue for the ceramic bezel doesn't seem to do the look many favours. Having seen it in the flesh it does look better than on screen, but I have to say I much prefer the look of my previous generation oris aquis, and having handled the new seamaster I think the oris is at least its equal for quality / build. Nice watch the omega is but you definately pay the price for it.
Have the Omega Seamaster but the accuracy cannot touch the unregulated Seiko 8L35 movement . Which has bloody 😳 shocked me . 8L35 Seiko movement not even regulated but is more accurate than the Omega Seamaster movement
Not sure why so many commented on rotating bezel clicking when 99% of dive watch owners don't even dip in pool wearing, my '07 SMP rotates just brilliantly with no loose stops and it sounds like my Easton Haven hubs
I just bought the last model 2 months ago. I much prefer it! The date window at 6 may look nice, but can you actually see the date? The helium escape valve looks like a Reese's peanut butter cup upside down.
They raised the price to take more of your money and for no other reason. Rich Chinese buyers are driving up prices and Omega is happy to match the demand. Same watch, more money.
needed a lume shot on all of them. especially curious to see how the rose gold inlay on the bezel illuminates if at all. also needed a wrist shot of the rubber strap to see how it conforms to the wrist.
I think the jump to 42mm is welcomed by those who actually use this as it is designed for - diving. The slightly larger bezel is better to twist when wearing neoprene gloves and more legible.
Good video but yet another reviewer who doesn’t know how to lock the dive extension. They are intentionally designed to lock in a specific way to prevent them from opening inadvertently and this is done by making the dive clasp engage from an almost 90 degree angle and a definitive click is heard. Great watch and compared to other divers you get a lot for tour money.
Maybe I misunderstood your mention of the in-house movement. I have a 2016 version with the co-axial 2500 movement and I thought that was in-house also.
Tom Roman The Omega 2500 movement is really an ETA 2892-A2 that was modified to fit the co-axial escapement. So it is really a half in-house movement, when the master co-axial in this new seamaster is fully in-house. Thanks for the comment!
Jack Serious Agreed. In pictures, it’s nice but in person, I was sold. The previous version, not so much and also, the previous gen. looks a little cheaper. The new 300M looks and feels more substantial! But to be fully appreciated, you MUST see it in person and try it on!
The old version dials were so much nicer! The silver dial is pretty horrible. Also you talk about the new date wheel matching the dial but the old one was much easier to read.
You mean $8800,- too much , going up in smoke. Buy a rep , close enough , it's all fluff anyway. Listen to the guy flapping over nothing , a clown-show , I just laugh at these salesmen. For me it's great comedy relief. Just take your Timex swimming :P
I think the datewheel should be obtrusive, it is meant to show you something other than the time- why the **does Rolex have an actual magnifying glass on their date? Is that not obtrusive?
You used to be avle to get 300m divers at 9mm thich with a 39mm face in the 90s. Why in gods name are huge, thich divers the norm now? Every generation just gets thicker and thicker. The bond Seamaster used to be 11.5mm thick. now it's approaching 14mm thick
I Love the Design of those watches, but the case size is just too large for my taste. Make it in 38 or 39 mm and it is perfect
The new omega seamaster diver blue steel n gold with rubber strap is amazing watch
Beautiful watch in SS. Yes Rolex hold there money but you try to buy one for list from an AD. Movement in the Omega is miles ahead of the Subs movement.

F Poynton k ... umm these things depreciate like 50% immediately after purchase...
i realize it's kind of off topic but do anybody know of a good site to watch new movies online?
@Jeremiah Elon I use Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
I have a 6.25 wrist. The prior gen had a lug to lug of 47mm. New is 50mm. What is your wrist size?
😍🤤 Totally in love with this watch. I ordered the one with the blue dial, blue strap, and yellow strap. Can’t wait to get it on Monday!
R A because I like it 🤷🏽♂️
I personally like the previous version. I like the plain black or blue dial colour, the applied logo, the smaller escapement valve knob, and most importantly the thickness, or lack there of I’d say..

Sung Hoon Lee, the Planet Ocean is for the dozen or so people in the world, who dive to 600 meters, I guess !!!
Mandini Gunasekara
I totally agree with the depth difference. But Seamaster Diver ceramic used to be a cash cow for the brand, offering a massive value at a reasonable price. Now apart from only couple of k from PO, it will confuse the customer. Losing another point to Rolex again. Shame on Omega's management

Omega needs to cut half the collection and focus on perfecting the established models. This is a step in the right direction!

actually i own the glossy one(last version before newcase) . but the wavy dial looks better. i agree on that :)

Haters gone hate
3:57 the watches bump one another. Still no scratches. Well that actually happened and showed it's worth checking out.
3:25 Haha! Most people edit that out. Good for you.
My 1990's bond version doesn't just tell time. It tells the history and directs the future of Seamaster. It is worth more than these new versions in my opinion.Love my Omega!

It will be well worth the wait!

I have to say I hated this watch in photos until I seen a few at an AD. I'm a fan of the two-tone models especially the black.
Yeah, it looks totally different in-person. Thanks for the comment!
Its beautiful and still better value than any Rolex
Hahahahahahah i love omega but ahahah
Looks great. The ceramic thumbprint dial looks ok. Very striking. The things I don't like is the lack of applied Omega logo on the dial and the ugly conical helium valve. Oh and the white numerals on the bezel makes it look cheap. They could've gone for liquidmetal numbers but they probably wanted to keep costs low for the Diver 300m.
It’s all about simple and classic my friend 👌
The previous blue ceramic non wave is looking so nice in this video. I have a black one i wish i had both now haha.
Sorry but the previous model was way nicer. Gone is the wonderful caseback engraving. I think the AP Royal Oak has more color variations. Some cheap fashion watch.
Disagree. Horses for courses.
So can you still buy the previous version? I prefer it over the new model
Yeah, at least at JB Hudson you can. Thanks for the comment!
Hi fellow horologists, the review on this 2018 SMP 300 is fine, it would have been better if you made a comparison, side by side with the SMP 300 with calibre 2500. I have the previous model from 2018 - and it have the micro adjustment on the bracelet as well
Prefer the old one it's a classic.
I have a 2001 model, love it. Wear it daily.
I'm probably biased because I've got the older one but I prefer it, the wave pattern on face and the white numbers on bezel cheapen the look of the new model

Which has bloody 😳 shocked me .
8L35 Seiko movement not even regulated but is more accurate than the Omega Seamaster movement
The old one's much better.
Norseman ghost old?
And better priced.
Ref 2254.50 is the king of all seamaster professionals. It's perfect in every way and they discontinued it. Prices going up on it every day
Wouldn't it be nice if omega put the crown at 4 o'clock and h.e. valve at 2 o'clock? I think it would be well proportioned.
I think then it would look like a stop watch
beauty...cant wait for it to arrive here in Canada.
September release is typical of Basel/SIHH novelties. Obviously it's not ideal, but this is how it's always been done.
Not sure why so many commented on rotating bezel clicking when 99% of dive watch owners don't even dip in pool wearing, my '07 SMP rotates just brilliantly with no loose stops and it sounds like my Easton Haven hubs
These watches get my heart racing lol. Beautiful looking watches!
They just went up another 350 bucks! Now retail for 5200 bucks with the metal bracelet.
I just bought the last model 2 months ago. I much prefer it! The date window at 6 may look nice, but can you actually see the date? The helium escape valve looks like a Reese's peanut butter cup upside down.
To quote my Mancunian roots: it’s minging!!!
I prefer the old versions.
I'm glad they brought back the wavy dial! But I can't believe they haven't fitted a tapered bracelet yet again
Bought the new one in blue, steel bracelet. In Love!
Did you get in trouble for removing the sticker? lol. Great video, I went for the black dial and I love it!
No, we always put them back afterwards. Thanks for the comment!
The old model looks much classier
I think the jump to 42mm is welcomed by those who actually use this as it is designed for - diving. The slightly larger bezel is better to twist when wearing neoprene gloves and more legible.
Strange. Side by side the face looks bigger. I will measure my 2 later.
Great review! The channel is really developing a voice. I’d recommend scripting the review a bit more tightly. Great job!
Thanks for the suggestion and support!
Ross gold on black yes. Rose on silver clashes imo.
Please review an Omega De Ville 39.5mm with 2500 co-axial chronometer movement. Try to do one with stainless steel bracelet. Nice review by the way.
Nahhhh
Its an ETA same in the longines hydro Conquest that cost 100 usd... maby longines from 2017 even is the better one.
I love the new one. You have to try one on to understand
Definitely. In online pictures, it looks much different than in reality.
Great review! Keep it up!!!
Will the bracelet fit a speedmaster moonwatch?
We like how you laid them out side by side.
Great video. Good job on the details. Thank you
Thanks!
the dial of the first watch is not silver, but blue-silver!
Great looking watch and sophisticated.
Definitely like the older Seamaster a lot more than the new one.
Old version looks a lot better.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better
Disagree...
The old version dials were so much nicer! The silver dial is pretty horrible. Also you talk about the new date wheel matching the dial but the old one was much easier to read.
I love Omega!
There is NO WAY I'm paying over $9k for an Omega dive watch. Might as well light $4k on fire.
You mean $8800,- too much , going up in smoke.
Buy a rep , close enough , it's all fluff anyway.
Listen to the guy flapping over nothing , a clown-show , I just laugh at these salesmen.
For me it's great comedy relief.
Just take your Timex swimming :P
The price difference is due to the gold. The base 4400 price is a good value for luxury watches
Rather 90k on a patek? Bahahaha
can we see the black no date titanium version? Why does omega make their watches so huge?
Great improvement. I had the previous one and the bezel on mine sure didn’t sound like the one you illustrate here. Your demo one is faulty
This isn’t a demo model. It's the final product available now.
Love the new blue seamaster
Skeleton hands , on a DIVE watch ? Surely this compromises legibility . Bring back the sword hands .
No lug to lug measurement and lume shot ?
Using gloves while knocking a hard wood table with watches. LOL
And then takes off gloves later on the video haha
Gloves are not only for preventing fingerprints, but also makes for a pleasureble view of the watch without seeing the presenters dirty nails!
the waves are back :)
The new one is much better than the old one
Basically my dream watch, but can‘t afford it😢
how much is it to buy
So how much is the power reserve in the new one?
55 hours
@@WatchesOnYou thanks
They also changed the hands and I think they look a lot better
Could you please!!! review the 2018 Breitling Colt models?
is it me or does the old version appear bigger compared to the new one even though the older one is smaller?
Balzo definitely you mate.
That bracelet is still so 90s. That watch looks much better on rubber.
Indeed. Simplicity does it for me, when it comes to bracelets. Never liked this particular type of " 90's uncle' bracelets. :)
Why is this watch still not available?😡 been looking for this watch for 2 months...
It is at JB Hudson. Thanks for the comment!
I don't like the wave dial, personally I like the planet ocean 600m with blue dial.
Honestly, this watch felt like it was higher quality than the planet ocean. Thanks for the comment!
This wad my first self bought watch
The new blue bezel with white fonts looks fake from PRC
Guess which market it's pitched at?
I’m not paying the price increase. I like the older model Anyway.
You need to learn how to lock in the divers extension.
I prefer my 1999 seamaster
Agreed, I like my '07 sword hands
I think the datewheel should be obtrusive, it is meant to show you something other than the time- why the **does Rolex have an actual magnifying glass on their date? Is that not obtrusive?
The dial text on the newer model is almost impossible to read. Doesnt look good in that regard.
wtf... I called all my AD and none of them have it. I went to the boutique in a near by city and they don't have it either!!!
JB Hudson had just gotten it in when we reviewed it so it will probably show up soon at your AD. Thanks for the comment!
Nice video!
Thanks for the comment!
41mm is perfect, dont like the new one :(
You don’t like it cause it’s 1mm bigger lol. The difference in size is negligible
like the older one better
You used to be avle to get 300m divers at 9mm thich with a 39mm face in the 90s. Why in gods name are huge, thich divers the norm now? Every generation just gets thicker and thicker. The bond Seamaster used to be 11.5mm thick. now it's approaching 14mm thick
