@@Michael-hz2pl Volkswagen also uses this transmission and its tuned much better. They used a shorter overall ratio to make the shift points at much lower speeds. It makes for excellent acceleration and fun driving.
That Toyota V6 man it’s a true gem it’ll be a sad day when they do away with it and to think they used to put this motor in the RAV4 no wonder 10 years later that car still almost 20 grand that was Toyota‘s fastest car for a long time 0 to 60 in 6.3 and you could do a few small mods and get 5.8

@@zaiooodi it's solid mechanically, it's just that Toyota's programming on it is a little quirky, plenty of 2018+ Camrys, 2017+ Highlanders, 2017+ Siennas already have over 200k miles without any issues with this UA80E 8 speed AT.
Ro0ster Yea I’m not sure my comment was completely accurate. I was judging the transmission based on driving my uncle’s 2019 RAV4, which lurched and hesitated a lot especially from a rolling stop. That transmission later had an update by Toyota and it has been really smooth ever since.
AchillesPhazd what are you talking about? My car has an 8 speed ZF, and it also hits 60 at late 2nd gear/very early third gear, almost all 8 speeds do. You clearly know absolutely nothing about transmissions, do your homework.
@@mattX5 from one comment you realize that I know absolutely nothing...I'll let that speak for itself. Also, saying that your ZF 8 speed's 2nd gear ends at 60 doesn't suddenly justify 2nd gears ending at 60mph for all cars, especially large cars like the Highlander that could use more aggressive gearing for towing and hauling. Have you done your homework ?
My uncle bought a 2019 Highlander XLE and the 8 speed auto surprisingly shifts fine. He says it doesn’t hunt for gears all the time. What if the 8 speed was meant for cruising on highways rather than brute speed?? I guess the RAV4 and Camry are the ones hit hard with the 8 speed shifting horribly.
andrew belmudez an 8 speed can be good at highway cruising revs and still provide adequate gear spacing in first second and third. Toyota and their idiocy just choose not too.
New one is faster by 0.1-0.3 seconds so kinda the same really. Power delivery is different the new 8 speeds feel much more spirited especially while at speed, feels a lot more punchier. These new ones have less low end torque though but they do build up aggressively to feel quick
It simply isn’t I’ve raced my friends 2011 rx with similar miles as yours in my moms 2017 highlander with the same engine and tranny as this one and I won (not by much but definitely faster off the line and maintained that gap for the rest of the race)
I have a 2009 Toyota Highlander limited with a v6 put it in sport mode and I always beet accords and shit😂 I need to turbo it then it will be a sleeper highlander
Of course it would Nathan. I went to the Atlanta international auto show 2020, and the palisade and telluride felt better inside than that funky Lexus RX.
It's a shame they got rid of this engine for the 2022 model year, however fuel economy is important these days.
Lmao and it gets the same mpg
You mean emissons, fuel economy ratings have 2 eras so far.
The gear ratios should be closer together. I don’t know why Aisin spaced out the gear ratios so far like that, maybe because of fuel economy.
2nd gear shouldn't end at 60
AchillesPhazd
Exactly. Second gear should end before 50mph in an 8 speed automatic.
Michael Yup, it would really make their cars accelerate better if they just re-tuned the lower gears.

Yupp, faster than the Porsche Boxter at the time and with 5 seats 🔥
Nice You just bought it ??
Little bit faster than last gen 6.91 sec on your third run. Pretty good!
7.1 seconds 0 to 60 the same time as the durango
How you did 7.1 sec?
If your tire didn’t slip on the first few seconds I’d say it’s 6 second rather than 6.7
added a supercharger to mine, hitting 0-60 in 5.8

It won't last "300 thousand miles". The 8-Speed AT on these won't last.
Zaiooodi they have shifting problems but that’s it lmao, it’s not like they have problems with durability

Turn traction control completely off

I know it’s a year late but the wheels would just keep spinning till it goes into 2nd gear

Weird gear ratio. 1st should be longer or 2nd should be shorter.
2nd gear in any modern car should not end at 60 mph

Dylan F my Acura TLX with 8sp dual clutch ends 2nd at 56~ish so not just the Highlander and the ZF 😀
Huge RPM gaps for an 8 speed , ratios not well matched at all engine falls off power band on the 1/2 shift .
