Alter Bridge have always been caught between a rock and a hard place. Creed fans didn't buy into them the way they should have because they were a reminder that Creed broke up. Everyone who hates Creed didn't give them a chance because of their association with Creed. In the meantime, they just keep putting ot great albums with limited radio support. They're huge in Europe btw.

Well done guys! I hope you appreciate your "ear". You both are very good at picking up subtle variations and changes, that's a pretty rare talent. You both would have made excellent theory students! This song is pretty unique, it is written in the key of F#maj and uses a D#min as a relative minor. I'd have to look but I'm guessing they are tuned down a half step. Anyway, Myles and Tremonti are excellent composers and tend to phrase their chord progression using the relative minor to bridge octave changes. This is what you are picking up I think. As for the question of whether or not this is "metal"... No, it's music. It's real, honest music. It is conceved in emotion and composed with great skill and honesty. Like Tupac, or Johnny Cash, or Miles Davis, or Prince... You can categorize it with a genre, but at the end of the day it is art.

Hey guys. Just to let you know, alter bridges two guitarists are Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy (the vocalist), with Mark playing lead and Myles playing rhythm. In terms of the solos, Myles plays the first solo and Mark played the second solo. Nice reaction guys. I like the way you guys are actively talking throughout instead of some other reactions where they just stare into space for the whole song, occasionally commenting on something.

They should check out the band Tremonti to hear Mark's vocal abilities. There are times when he almost **ALMOST** sounds like Chris Cornell and that's some of the highest praise you can pay to a rock vocalist. He doesn't have Chris' range and intensity, but he's got a bit of the timbre and emotion. He's also a ripping guitarist, of course, and a really, REALLY good songwriter.

Just adding in. So the lower vocals in the chorus is Mark Tremonti. A lot of the weird guitar sounds added in are Myles Kennedy. Myles actually does the first bluesy solo and Mark does the second shred solo. These 2 guys together have to be the best lyric and guitar duo I've heard. The more you get into them the more complicated you will realize they are. Mark Tremonti actually has a solo band called Tremonti. Definitely a must to check out.

I'm a little late to the party but oh well! This band is so disgustingly good I can't believe it. That little acoustic intro was played by Myles. He and Mark Tremonti are both amazing guitarists, and they like to swap during solos, that amazing solo in Blackbird was played by them both, the 2 solo's here too. Trust me guys, every song from these guys is so good, you won't be disappointed no matter what song you pick next. They can do no wrong. I'm what you'd probably call a "music elitist" and I can safely say this is one of the best, if not the best band that has ever come out of hard rock. Blackbird's solo is considered by many to be the best solo in the world, beating even Stairway To Heaven. And I fully agree with that. They are critically acclaimed, people just overlook them due to the fact that everyone besides Myles was a Creed member. They have nothing to do with Creed now. Unrecognizable change and evolution in quality and talent. Be sure to check out the title track from "Fortress" next, it's one of their most "epic" songs, just like Cry of Achilles and Blackbird. You'll be blown away I promise! Thanks for the reaction guys awesome as always, you made my day :)

Zeuzo You should see Kennedy live in the band he has with Slash The Conspirators. It's a little bit different sound then the Alter stuff but Kennedy's vocals are just as dynamic and powerful. He has incredible showmanship live too! Even his new solo album Year of the Tiger just shows how he, vocal wise, is like a rock frontman of the past. Defenitely reminiscent of Robert Plant and a little bit of the late, great Chris Cornell! His stuff from The Mayfield Four is very good too!

I like to classify alter bridge as the literal “bridge” between what I call “radio friendly red state rock” and the likes of the technical musicianship and experimentation seen in prog and some of the other elitists genres of metal that really only specify niche vibes. The deeper veins of contemporary rock and metal is often misunderstood by those who don’t normally listen to it because it is straight confrontation, a vibe, feeling, perspective or vocabulary of sounds separate and intense in some cases because a lot is an expression of suffering ,confusion, or for the sake of shock value.
Red state rock is bands like saliva, seether, theory for a deadman, nickleback, shine down, puddle of mudd. Basically all the bands your mom could enjoy on the ride to middle school. Like stadium country, but with some edge.
That said, alter bridge is sick af, very underrated.

I've gotta say George your assessment of most fans in the extreme or hardcore scenes reasoning is pretty spot on. Most anything deemed feminine, is frowned upon. Part of the macho, misogynistic aspects of that culture that I don't care for despite my love of the music. Only recently checked out this track and it blew me away!!! I Wasn't a fan of Myles Kennedy for some time, only now just coming around. Always liked Mark Tremonti's playing (even though I wasn 't a fan of Scott Stapp) and in Alter Bridge he shines!!!
For my recommendation, again it's the Dillinger Escape Plan When Good Dogs Do Bad Things. I know it might not be either of your guys styles, but I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and seeing your reactions to it!!! Definitely have to experience this as least once!

If you feel the emotion in Mark’s guitar solos you should watch his face when he plays! 😍😍😍 Thanks for another exciting AB review. It makes me feel like I'm hearing it for the first time again myself and even 11 years on I still get chills hearing Myles sing. Not only Myles Kennedy is an amazing singer, he's also an amazing guitar player. And that kinda falls under the radar because the guitar spotlight falls over Mark Tremonti. I've seen Myles playing live and that guy is a beast on guitar. Like it was said in a previous comment. Myles was the one who recorded that Flamenco guitar intro. The point about mainstream appeal that George was mentioning. They might not be very popular in North America. But in Europe these guys are HUUUGEEEE.

    - We Hate Everyone
    - Love You to Death
    - Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity (Although strangely beautiful, this one is 13min long, so I'd understand if you want something shorter)
Their vocalist, Peter Steele (RIP), is my #1 singer of all time..
Anyway, I'll let the aforementioned subscribers get their input on which song if they'd like.

Saw Myles Kennedy and his guitarist Tim perform this acoustically on his solo tour in London. It was incredible! You should catch Alterbridge on their next tour. You will NOT regret it!

Slip to the Void by Alter Bridge is an amazing example of how good they are at change ups and giving a song a unique style and sound. Definitely would recommend giving it a listen.

A little bit of interesting information - Alter Bridge were named after a bridge near Tremonti’s hometown. As a child, Tremonti was warned to never cross that bridge because it led to the darker part of the city.
Perfect name because a lot of these guys’ songs touch on dark subjects but provide a silver lining. This song, in particular, is kind of a throwback to their third album which is a concept album about a character struggling to find their place in a world full of emptiness. This song is kind of speaking to that character telling him to never give up after all that he’s been through, because something beautiful is still alive.
You should react to one of the songs from that third album. I suggest either Isolation or Words Darker Than Their Wings.
