The Remarkable Story of the First Female US Presidential Candidate

  • A woman who led one of the most remarkable lives of anyone of her era despite being largely forgotten by history thanks in part to the fact that she was too extreme for even the women's rights and suffragists movements, who conveniently very intentionally wrote her out of their history despite her massive contributions to the cause. This is the story of Victoria "Badass" Claflin Woodhull and her vie for the office of President of the United States.

Col. Blood was was not an "awesome husband." He was a hardcore alcoholic and that led to their divorce in 1876. Woodhull's free love ideas made her popular with some of the nation's wealthiest men, particularly Cornelius Vanderbilit. That connection made her rich. Woodhull did feel sorry for Blood and gave him financial support after their divorce.

I do appreciate that she was an advocate to that women do not have to be sexual slaves to their husbands though. Back in this time there was no concept of marital rape and if a woman wasn't in the mood she wouldn't be able to report it or complain if her husband raped her. Even the concept of being married without sex at all is a pretty relevant idea and relevant for people like asexual individuals or other. I grew up in the Christian belt of the South myself, currently work under the social work and mental health Spectrum and you would be surprised how many women in my hometown that are married think they are not allowed to say they are not in the mood to their husbands, seriously! I used to be friends with a woman who blamed herself when her husband sexually assaulted her and claimed "It was my own fault, I shouldn't have said no. I'm his wife."

If a person in the 10th-century claimed that they have figured out how to get people to the moon, regardless of whether their idea was scientifically sound they would be seen as a lunatic. People, and especially society, resist change, and to expect a society to accept such drastic changes as her ideals would require either a miracle or some sort of utter disaster that reshuffled the human species at the time.

Victoria Woodhull also pioneered eugenics, doing so before Francis Galton coined the term. Just before she died she praised *Buck v. Bell* (1927) in the *New York Times* for making forced sterilization constitutional. You can find her pioneering writings on that in *Lady Eugenist* And Woodhull was much like Margaret Sanger, founder of today's Planned Parenthood, whose early board included Lothrop Stoddard, author of *The Rising Tide of Color against White World Supremacy* - and yes it is about just what its title says it is about. Woodhull is "badass" only if that term includes using almost any means to keep down the birthrates of those regarded as "unfit." She was a very evil woman.

Marriages that force a woman to have relations whenever her husband wants are barbaric. I just realized that people thought that way.
Just as an aside, per Jewish law, heck, per the Bible, it's the other way. It's the man who has the responsibility to ensure his wife is satisfied! I'm not sure where that bit of misogyny comes from.

Simon Simon Simon... I'm starting to think that you create a new channel everytime your child goes through growing pains. Can't sleep at night? Do what my fiancé did: move to the living room and sleep on the floor if necessary. We've since move elsewhere and the kids' bedroom is at the end of the hallway.

I can't believe I've never heard of her before. Honestly, the second I stopped trying to force myself to be monogamous my relationships fucking blossomed. It's so mindblowing how loving and open you can be when you're not constantly paranoid that someone might 'steal your man' because like...go for it we can negotiate boundaries and all be happy anyway.

No children but successful career: selfish, cold, not a real woman.

Actually a lot of men just leave and don’t take care in any way. That’s why smart women keep working instead of having several children.
