    In this video:
    Leonardo da Vinci started work on the Mona Lisa around 1503, thought to be a commissioned painting of Lisa Gherardini, the third wife of silk merchant Freancesco del Giocondo. As to why da Vinci never delivered it, it has been speculated that he received a much more lucrative commission shortly thereafter and thus abandoned the painting at the time. Another hypothesis is that he perhaps made two versions of the painting, keeping one and delivering the other. Whatever the case, da Vinci continued working on the Mona Lisa (“Mona” more or less meaning “Madam”) up to around 1517. While today it is generally considered the most famous painting in the world, it wasn’t until French art critics began holding it up as a model of Renaissance painting techniques in the mid-19th century that it started to gain traction as anything but one of many great works by da Vinci. In fact, in the 18th century, King Louis XV actually unceremoniously had the painting removed from its place of prominence at Versailles and placed out of the way in the keeper of the royal buildings’ office.

He just dropped the pun in to the sentence with out even a flicker before adding the spilled beans a couple of words later. It would have been so easy to make a meal out of the whole thing and given the whole thing away.😉 Come on man! You know that had to be done.

    As always, Simon doing a fine job with his story telling 👍🏻. I think a good one to cover on this channel is the Orson Wells 1938 radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds and the unexpected results of it.

    • @ferociousgumby
      @ferociousgumby 2 года назад

      He did cover it on this channel (link below), basically revealing that there WAS no mass panic - in fact there was no panic at all, just a few very local reactions that were blown up by the press, aided and abetted by Orson Welles. Hardly anyone heard the broadcast anyway, as Fibber McGee and Molly was on. There were repeated announcements throughout the broadcast that it was a dramatization only. No story here, but I'm still seeing it on channels like Fascinating Horror, which usually does a better job of research. BTW, NPR (National Public Radio) did an article thoroughly debunking the myth. ruclips.net/video/V4uL7gP94rI/видео.html

    Could you imagine if Peruggia was killed during WW1, or in a random accident/illness. There's a good chance that the Mona Lisa would still be lost as he likely told few people that he had it. That is if he told anyone at all. The butterfly effect never ceases to amaze me.

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 4 года назад

      I think that the exact same thing has been basically the first thought of nearly every person who's ever been to see it.
      How often its been reproduced, especially the repro's that are posters, along with the hype & fame have totally skewed everyones thinking on the paintings size.
      Even after seeing people view it on a TV show & knowing the dimensions, I was caught out & couldn't quite believe the fact its basically a large postage stamp.😏👌📫

    WARNING :This comment contains extreme & carelessly used gratuitous pun abuse.
    Well after the Gendarmes had "grilled Salmon and he'd spilled the beans" they as good as had the whole thing served up on a plate but somehow managed to let the whole thing go cold making a meal out of the whole thing. The Tea leaves didn't exactly cook up a fancy caper though, opting to go for the peeled back to the bone app-roach and basically poaching the prime choice premium port-rait to then make some copies and cream of enough dough that no one would Wine about their portion.
    Yes, yes I know but really after Simon delivered such a smooth pun without even the slightest smirk I just couldn't resist cooking this up. 👏👏👏😢😞😒🔥🍳🐠🔥🍴👅😷😱🍜😫🙈🙉🙊
